Rue McClanahan, ‘Golden Girls’ Star, Dead At 76

Actress, who portrayed Blanche Devereaux on show, suffered a massive stroke. By Kara Warner Rue McClanahan Photo: Evan Agostini/ ImageDirect Rue McClanahan , the Emmy-winning actress who starred as the saucy Blanche Devereaux in the hit TV series “The Golden Girls,” died early Thursday morning of a massive stroke, according to multiple reports. She was 76. “She passed away at 1 a.m.,” her manager, Barbara Lawrence, told People.com . “She had a massive stroke.” McClanahan had suffered a minor stroke earlier this year while recovering from triple bypass surgery. McClanahan’s rep told the magazine that at the time of her death Thursday, McClanahan “had her family with her. She went in peace.” McClanahan was born on February 21, 1934, in Healdton, Oklahoma. After majoring in theater at the University of Tulsa, began her career as an actress in the mid-1950s, appearing in off-Broadway productions in New York. She made her Broadway debut in 1969, in the role of Sally Weber in the musical “Jimmy Shine,” and soon moved from the stage to daytime with a role on the soap opera “Another World” in 1970. It wasn’t until landing the part of Vivian Harmon in TV’s “Maude” (which starred a pre-“Golden Girls” Bea Arthur), however, that she would achieve the notoriety that led to landing her famous role on “Golden Girls.” In recent years, McClanahan had appeared on TV shows “Meet the Browns,” “Law & Order” and “Sordid Lives: The Series.” Arthur died of cancer last year; co-star Estelle Getty passed away in 2008. Betty White, the sole surviving “Girl,” has been enjoying a wave of success and attention of late. At 88, she hosted “Saturday Night Live” last month, co-starred in the box office hit, “The Proposal,” and received a lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild last year.

Betty White Confirmed To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’

Legendary actress/comedian will host on Mother’s Day, May 8, with former ‘SNL’ cast members Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and others. By Jocelyn Vena Betty White Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images After fans took to Facebook to launch a campaign to get veteran funny girl Betty White on “Saturday Night Live,” it was announced earlier this week that she would in fact be making an appearance on the show in some capacity. Now comes word that the star will be hosting the show in May. White will be onboard for the May 8 episode, which also happens to be Mother’s Day. The show will feature appearances by a number of female “SNL” vets including Tina Fey, who will also host the show on April 10 with musical guest Justin Bieber; Amy Poehler; Molly Shannon; Maya Rudolph; Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch. In an interview with USA Today , “SNL” executive producer Lorne Michaels admits he “always wanted” White to host the late-night comedy program. “Years ago, I turned it down three times,” White says. “It’s so New York, and I’m not New York at all. But my agent said he’d divorce me if I didn’t do it, and I love my agent.” And while White has starred in and won awards for many of her memorable roles on shows like “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Golden Girls” and last summer’s movie “The Proposal,” and has even more recently caught the eye of Robert Pattinson , it was her very funny Super Bowl commercial that was the catalyst for her getting the coveted gig on “SNL.” “It took on a groundswell,” Michaels says of the Facebook campaign, which began in response to White’s appearance in the Super Bowl spot. “It isn’t something we would have said no to,” but the campaign “validated that, ‘Oh, that’d be fun.’ … It was the outpouring of affection from fans, and we feel the same way.” White herself is excited about all the attention. “It’s lovely, and at my age it’s certainly unexpected,” she said. “I’ve got so much energy, it’s ridiculous. I love working. My schedule is a feverish one, and I’m used to that.”

Betty White Responds To Robert Pattinson’s ‘Sexy’ Comments About Her

‘Now that is a comedy line,’ White says about Pattinson’s comments about her on ‘The View.’ By Jocelyn Vena Robert Pattinson Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Robert Pattinson might be the world’s most desirable man these days. So when he was asked about his feelings on cougars, and more specifically Betty White, on “The View” this week while promoting his flick “Remember Me” with Emilie de Ravin, it was his very unexpected response to older women and White that has the comedy vet herself laughing. “I think Betty White is probably one of the sexiest women in America,” Pattinson said on the talk show Tuesday. “She’s vibrant; it’s sexy. I think the more age, the better.” And while Pattinson may or may not have been joking, White certainly thought the 23-year-old “Twilight” star’s response was actually pretty funny. “Now that is a comedy line!” the 88-year-old “Golden Girls” star said in response to Pattinson’s kind words in a statement to Access Hollywood . White has found herself at the forefront of pop culture most recently for her very funny Snickers ad that aired during the Superbowl. It was her cameo in it as a football player, as well as her career as a funnywoman on shows like “Golden Girls” and flicks like “The Proposal” that has led many fans to start a campaign to get her on “Saturday Night Live” as the show’s host for an episode. “All this came out of left field — all of a sudden, all this stuff has come in,” she said about the attention. “I don’t know any more than I did in the beginning, I’m just watching in awe.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Robert Pattinson

Some Lindsay Lohan Lesbian Outfit Pics of the Day

The greatest news of the week was that Lohan will go back to cock when Sam Ronson dies, because until Ronson dies, Lohan is committed to her….she seems to think they are like soulmates who have been united in past lives and are meant to be, and together they have faced adversity, conflict and challenges, but their love carried on and was stronger than anything they had thrown at them. They were Romeo and Juliette, Leo and Kate in Titanic, J.Lo and Diddy, Bill and Claire Huxtable, Stan and Dorothy on Golden Girls, and all the other great love stories of world history….or maybe they are just drugged out idiots who think they are more important than they are…and try to find purpose in their useless privileged lives or maybe I’m just jealous cuz I haven’t a love like this, that would turn me homo it was so strong, like an entity of it’s own, or maybe I just don’t like Lohan giving ignoring the love I have for her….in a “If I can’t have her, no one can” stalker kind of way, but that whole Lohan Stalkin’ thing I did a few years ago was just a stunt to get on Access Hollywood that didn’t work,I just really like lookin’ at her tits, that she constantly forgets to bring out….I’d call her a cocktease, but the fact she fucks Ronson, kinda proves she’s definitely not one of those….Ronson naked has the ability to turn any man faggot and apparently one girl dyke… Pics via PacificCoastNews
