Are Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, his partner of 14 years now, a thing of the past or headed in that direction fast? Such rumors have been swirling this week. The pair has not made a public appearance together for more than a year, and the Dark Shadows star’s solo trip to the Golden Globes fueled the split rumors. People reports that America’s favorite actor and the French singer-actress have called it quits, having led “separate lives” for some time now. The couple has long maintained separate homes , in West Hollywood and France. A source allegedly close to Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis said the following: “They bet that they could move to California for long stays for his career. They bet that things could continue there as they had in the south of France.” “They lost that bet. Vanessa has gone seven years between albums and several years between film projects while he became Jack Sparrow,” the source said. On January 6, a tired-looking Paradis was spotted shopping with daughter Lily-Rose, 12, at Los Angeles The Grove, adding to the speculation of trouble. The couple also has a nine-year-old son, John Christopher Depp III. For what it’s worth, in December 2010, Depp gave an interview to Extra about why he and Paradis had no plans for marriage – now or down the line. “I never found myself needing that piece of paper. Marriage is really from soul to soul, heart to heart. You don’t need somebody to say you’re married.” “If Vanessa wanted to get hitched, why not… But the thing is, I’d be so scared of ruining her last name. She’s got such a good last name,” he said. Neither party has commented on the rumored breakup. [Photo: WENN.com]
Award-winning DJ/producer is also overseeing Paris Hilton’s new music project. By Akshay Bhansali Paris Hilton and Afrojack Photo: Danny Mahoney/ XS Nightclub Afrojack is in Los Angeles, and not just for a stopover. The award-winning DJ/producer will be anchored to the City of Angels, hunkered down in the studio to work on music. A lot of music. Paris Hilton confirmed at the Golden Globes that Afrojack is producing her next album. The two were recently in the studio working with LMFAO’s Redfoo. And on top of all that, Afrojack (real name Nick Van de Wall) is also working on his own first album. “I’m in the studio now for two months in Los Angeles,” Afrojack told MTV News recently before an epic resident set at Las Vegas’ dance-music mecca, XS Nightclub. “I have two studios booked and I have a big house and we are all staying there and just thinking about not only producing my album, but just producing other songs for other people.” His next single, “Can’t Stop Me Now,” a collaboration with Shermanology, is the only confirmed collabo he could reveal. But fans can be sure that Afrojack is looking to work with plenty of other artists while he’s in L.A. “I’ve met a lot of people in the last two years around the world, and I’m pretty sure they are going to be on the album,” Van de Wall said, mentioning Omarion, Redfoo, Chris Brown and Ne-Yo as possibilities. “I did a remix for Leona Lewis, and I really loved her voice. I want to have her on the album,” he added, referring to his Grammy-nominated remix of Lewis’ “Collide.” “And I’m going to work with my own boys. I’m gonna do collabs with R3hab , with Quintino and Shermanology.” After the radio success of “Give Me Everything,” Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now,” and Beyonce’s “Run The World (Girls),” one has to wonder: Will Afrojack’s coming album be more pop or club? Is it turns out, maybe both. “I’m still thinking,” he revealed. “I could do club, but then the pop side wouldn’t understand. And if it’s just pop, the club side wouldn’t understand. I think I’m just going to do both. I think it’s just going be a totally different thing. Let’s see what happens. It’s my first album!” Should Afrojack focus on pop or club? ‘It didn’t hurt that George Lucas spent the last quarter of a decade trying to get this story’ made, actor tells MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan Cuba Gooding Jr. in “Red Tails” Photo: Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation The upcoming World War II drama “Red Tails” tells many stories. First and foremost, it’s the story of the heroic Tuskegee Airmen, the country’s first African American air regimen. Within that story are tales of social injustice and a historical wartime drama. It’s also a big-budget action movie produced by George Lucas. With so much to accomplish, “Red Tails” has a lot on its plate dramatically speaking. One of the stars of the film, Cuba Gooding Jr., told MTV News recently that the film manages to find the right balance. “I think it strikes it in the subject matter,” Gooding said. “It didn’t hurt that George Lucas spent the last quarter of a decade trying to get this story onto the big screen. “The fact that you have the story of these warriors, whose story has been suppressed up until this date — except for smaller instances — are finally getting their due, educating the audience of what African Americans did in the war effort in World War II … told by George Lucas, Star Wars,” Gooding said. “You’re going to see an amusement park ride.” Gooding concluded that all of those elements came together for a proper telling of the story. “I think that’s how you get the balance,” he added. “You get a filmmaker who is so passionate he’s putting his own dough up to the tune of $100 million-plus. You see it on the screen.” Gooding’s co-star, Nate Parker, tried to chime in with a comment of his own, but the Academy Award-winning actor stopped Parker jokingly. “No, no, no, no. That was enough,” Gooding said. “I’m just kidding. Speak your mind, brother.” For Parker, the answer to the film’s success is simple. “Risk and reward,” he said. “He took a risk, and now I think he’s being rewarded in a major way because I think the film is fantastic.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Red Tails.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Mireille Enos also addresses controversy swirling around upcoming ‘World War Z.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Mireille Enos in “The Killing” Photo: AMC Mireille Enos can’t seem to stay away from controversy these days. Two of her biggest projects, AMC’s “The Killing” and this year’s “World War Z” have recently come under heavy scrutiny from fans, but at Sunday’s Golden Globes , Enos assured MTV News that both projects are headed in the right direction. Fans of Max Brooks’ novel recently lashed out when word came down from the set of “World War Z” that significant changes had been made to the overall structure of the story. In what may be a relief to fans, Enos admitted that liberties were taken but said that the core remains the same. “I definitely found the book very important, just to get into the mind of Max Brooks and the kind of story that he was trying to tell,” she told MTV News’ Josh Horowitz. “Actually, the book is about human nature in the midst of crisis. Even though the context is different in the film, that’s still the heart of it, and I’m so glad that was carried over.” She also expanded on the part she plays, as well as Brad Pitt ‘s role, and how those characters factor into the changes made to the story. “The book is narrated by a character who is now in the film, and I play that character’s wife,” she said. When “The Killing” season finale aired last June, fans cried foul that the show ended without revealing Rosie Larsen’s killer. Enos told us on Sunday that she couldn’t understand the outrage. “I was so baffled, actually, by people not liking the ending. A cliffhanger is such a classic writing device,” she said. “If you’re enjoying the journey, why not want more?” For season two, however, Enos promised a quicker show with much higher stakes. “The pace accelerates. The stakes jump by tenfold. Everything gets more and more personal, and the writing is so exceptional,” she said. “We shot the first three episodes, and our eyes are like this [ makes bulging eye motion ] at the end of every episode. It’s really going to be awesome.” Check out everything we’ve got on “World War Z.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Lindsay Lohan is ready to sign on to play Elizabeth Taylor , according to reports. It looks like she’s nearing a deal to make it official, as she’s also working to complete her community service faster than required to clear the way for filming. At Lohan’s probation progress hearing, she is expected to receive glowing reports as a model morgue employee . If that goes as planned, she should be good. The plan is to sign the deal early next week, barring unforeseen setbacks. The Lifetime film will focus on Taylor’s tumultuous relationship with two-time husband Richard Burton, and producers were reportedly keen on Lohan – like Taylor, a star at an extremely young age and often maligned – to star as the icon. This is just one of many projects LiLo is reportedly considering. We made fun of the notion that Lindsay Lohan Playboy photos could revive her career, but she made nearly a million bucks, and is actually getting more offers than she’s received in years due to her popularity – and growing maturity. Not that many women can blame her, but Angelina Jolie raised some eyebrows with a risque remark about Brad Pitt before the Golden Globes last night. While Brangelina were both the model of sophistication during interviews, Jolie let her guard down towards the end of her trip down the red carpet. Asked what she was most looking forward to from the evening, the Associated Press says she winked and whispered: “Getting into bed with Brad.” The best part of the Golden Globes for Angie? The after-after party, in bed! Jolie did not get into specifics regarding their bedtime routine or discuss whether Brad’s cane makes an appearance between the sheets, if you know what we mean. We mean he got hurt recently and walks with a cane. Despite the A-list roster of attendees, the Golden Globes have a reputation for being much more laid back and fun than the Oscars that follow in February. To that end, Jolie’s quip about Brad was one of several priceless celebrity moments from the Beverly Hilton Hotel that television viewers never got to see. The audience did see plenty of quality moments, though, from Ricky Gervais’ off-color monologue to Seth Rogen’s massive erection confession . [Photo: WENN.com]
