Alfred Hitchcock may have been, as the folks behind HBO’s upcoming Tippi Hedren telefilm The Girl allege, ” a monster ,” but he was also a cinematic genius, a visionary storyteller, an indelible presence on the pop culture landscape, and, perhaps, a ham. (His words — see below.) So today, on what would’ve been his 113th birthday, how do you best remember Hitch? My first Hitchcock was the newly-anointed Sight & Sound greatest film of all time , 1958’s Vertigo , and to this day it’s the one that’s endured most vividly for me through the years. Childhood trips to Muir Woods always seemed haunted by Scottie and Madeleine’s forested exchange (Big Basin subbed in for the actual location); visits to Fort Point, where Madeleine jumps into the icy San Francisco Bay right below the Golden Gate Bridge, made the film come alive during a formative time in my life. Watching Vertigo as a child decades after Hitchcock had made it, I had my first inkling of the magnitude of time — of the past, the present, and how connected a person can be to people, stories, ideas from long ago. I faintly recall my subsequent Hitchcocks being Rope , and then North by Northwest , the byproduct of living in a household in which AMC was on all the time, back when AMC was more like TCM. Cameo-spotting became a fun watch-along game, as it is for any Hitch enthusiast (my favorite is still Hitchcock walking two little dogs in The Birds ), highlighting his humor and hubris in equal measure. While it’s been kicking around the internet for a while, this classic episode of the popular 1950s celebrity spectacle What’s My Line? reminds me of that very spirit — cheeky, intelligent, and hilariously game for playing along on his own terms. Watch it and join in with your own celebration of The Master of Suspense below. Above: Hitchcock in Cannes, May 1972 [Getty Images] Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
Serena Williams Wins Olympic Gold Medal For Women’s Singles Tennis And another win for Serena Williams ! Homegirl killed it in the Olympics final Saturday against Maria Sharapova, crushing the Russian on the world stage. Serena Williams became only the second woman to complete a career Golden Slam, winning the most lopsided women’s final in Olympic history Saturday by beating Maria Sharapova 6-0, 6-1. The victory completed a remarkable run of domination by the No. 4-seeded Williams, who lost only 17 games in six matches en route to her first singles gold medal. She went 13-0 this summer at the All England Club, where she won her fifth Wimbledon title a month ago. The career Golden Slam was first achieved by Steffi Graf, who did it when she won at the Olympics in 1988 after sweeping all four major titles. Williams can add the gold medal to her 14 Grand Slam singles championships, the most of any active woman. And she’s not done in London. Williams and her sister Venus, pursuing their third gold in doubles, were scheduled to play in the semifinals later Saturday. It took the No. 3-seeded Sharapova 45 minutes to win a game, and by then she trailed 6-0, 3-0. Williams dominated with her serve and repeatedly blasted winners from the baseline, taking a big swing with almost every stroke despite gusty conditions on Centre Court. The wind was so strong it blew the U.S. flag off its pole during the medal ceremony. When Sharapova wasn’t lunging or whiffing as the ball whizzed past, she was caught off-balance trying to block back shots at her feet. Williams finished with 10 aces, 24 winners and only seven unforced errors. Sharapova completed a career Grand Slam in June by winning the French Open, but Williams beat her for the eighth consecutive time. The most one-sided previous women’s final was in 1920, when Suzanne Lenglen of France beat Dorothy Holman of Britain 6-3, 6-0. When Williams closed out the victory with her 60th ace of the tournament, she let out a long scream. After shaking hands with Sharapova, Williams hopped a dozen times on the grass she loves, waved and then hopped some more. Williams was still jumping about as she put on her Team USA jacket for the medal ceremony. Then she began to dance. We love it that she busted out the cripwalk… Congrats Serena! Don’t act like that, keep it 100!!! Double-Amputee Oscar Pistorius Makes Olympic History Advancing To 400 Meter Semifinals With the crowd at Olympic Stadium cheering him on, Oscar Pistorius crouched in the starting blocks Saturday and couldn’t help but smile. “The experience to be here is a dream come true,” said the South African sprinter. “I’ve worked for six years to try and make the 400 standard, and to come out today is just an unbelievable experience.” Running on a pair of prosthetic legs, Pistorius became the first amputee to compete in an Olympic race and was a crowd favorite from the moment he stepped onto the track Saturday morning. While he knew gold in the 400-meter here wasn’t likely, he still wasn’t content to simply show up in London. “It’s one thing being here and another thing performing here… My goal was to make the semifinal tomorrow,” he said. And he did that, finishing second in his qualifying heat Saturday. Pistorius had no problem advancing, finishing in 45.44 seconds, his second-best mark of the year. The semifinals will take place on Sunday. “It’s very difficult to separate the occasion from the race. …Just being here is a tremendous experience,” he said. “You draw enough from the crowd and the occasion.” Pistorius is known as the Blade Runner because he wears blade-shaped prosthetics. He has competed in the Paralympics but fought for years to be included in the Olympics. The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that the blades do not give him an advantage over other runners. Ladies, clearly Oscar is successful, in good shape, and probably has a couple dollars, but what we want to know is…would you hit that?? It was Saturday 9 th June 2012 . I literally could not believe I was going to the Summertime Ball! We got there at like 1, and waited in the queue for an hour and a half before we were all escorted in. The stadium was massive . I had never been to a standing concert before so it was crazy. We had one row in front of us and we were in the Golden Circle right by the bridge. We had to wait about 3 hours before it started but it was so worth it. All the acts were amazing and there were loads of Beliebers nearby, we all couldn’t wait for Justin. Just before The Wanted came on stage, Scooter just walks past us with a cap on and we screamed for him. He was like 2 metres away and me and some other Beliebers were crying and everything. Later Kenny comes past by us but he was so fast! Allison also came past us. Before Justin came on stage, Kenny high fived all these people. I thought it was over but Scooter came back and stood like 1 metre away and stared up at the screen that showed all Justin’s successes, he smiled like he was proud and I was like about to cry! But Justin came on and that distracted me so much. He was so flawless. When he came to our bridge, we screamed so much and he smiled and threw his water bottle into our crowd and I caught it!! Lol joke I didn’t, some girl did like 5 rows back. He was so flawless and sexy and he lifted up his top! Scooter left and I got one last picture, it was such a crazy night! I’m seriously such an unlucky person so this has been like WOW for me, this will never happen to me again because I’m so unlucky but I just cannot believe my luck. I didn’t use to believe in Never Say Never but now I definitely do. Read this article: It was Saturday 9th June 2012. I literally could not believe I…
My Bieber experience took place on July 14th 2012, it was the best day of my life. It all started in May when I found out that Justin would be in Malaysia for MTV World Stage. In order to win passes, we had to play a game on their website. I played the game everyday, 3-4 hours everyday for 8 days. And finally, on the 8th day, I got my passes. I was screaming with joy, I was glad to be able to see my idol perform again. After I won my tickets, I decided that I was going whatever I can to meet him. I made videos, I tweeted Justin and the crew, I DM-ed him, etc. My friends even helped me tweet him and they sent the link to my videos to him and the crew but it didn’t workout. About 3 weeks later, Universal Music was organizing a “Girlfriends Day Out.” They were giving out passes for Justin’s press conference here in Malaysia. I was so upset that I wasn’t able to go. But that didn’t mean that I would give up. About two weeks before the concert, I was giving up. I knew I wasn’t going to meet him and I got very upset. A week before World Stage, MTV was doing roadshows and they were giving out passes and also meet and greets. The roadshow was for two days and I attended both days. And even at the roadshow I didn’t win. I checked the MTV website daily and I found out they were giving out meet and greet passes through an online contest. All I had to do was answer 10 questions about Justin and write a 250 word essay about why I deserved to meet him. I entered as many times as possible using my Facebook account, my sisters’ Facebook account and also my friends’ Facebook account. The contest was about to close on July 9th, just a few days before World Stage. I came home from school and my mum tells me she had a surprise for me. I was being sarcastic and said, “What surprise? I won?” and she said yes. I won two press conference passes and two meet and greets. I immediately started screaming and crying. I couldn’t believe it. All of my hard work had paid off! I called all of my relatives and they were so happy for me. Finally, Saturday arrived. I woke up at 5 am and I got ready. It was time to meet my idol. We (my sister and I) arrived at the hotel where the press conference was supposed to take place. We waited for about 3 hours before we could go into the press conference room. I was so excited! The press conference was only supposed to start at 11 but I made my sister take me earlier. I met so many other amazing Beliebers as well. After we registered our names and we were actually allowed to enter the hall where the press conference was to take place, everyone ran for their lives to get the best seat. We waited for about 2 hours for Justin in the hall. He was running a little late. We waited and waited. All we could talk about was how excited and grateful we were to get this opportunity! Suddenly, we saw Scrappy and Dan walk in the door, everyone started screaming, “OMG, OMG! JUSTIN’S HERE!” The minute they walked in, the host announced that they’ll be starting soon. I kept looking out for Justin just in case he walked through the doors. From the corner of my eye, I could see Kenny on stage. They were setting up. And before we knew it, the lights went off. And the man himself, Justin Drew Bieber, walked on stage. I will never forget the excitement that I felt. He did an acoustic set for everyone. I was the only one in my section who was going crazy. I made a poster that said, “Marry Me?! I love you,” and while he was singing “Die In Your Arms,” he looked at me. We made eye contact a couple of times, I couldn’t believe it. Alfredo even stood in front of my section and he looked at me and WINKED! Just to make sure he was staring at me, I waved at him and he waved at me! I just couldn’t believe that this was happening to me. After he had finished with the interviews, it was time for the meet and greets. Those who who wore the purple tags were asked to leave the room. And those who had the red tags were asked to line up by the stage. We had to wait for about 20 minutes because Justin was doing some round table interview. I did not mentally prepare myself to meet Justin because I kept thinking I was dreaming. My group was the first group to walk up on stage to meet him. There were ten people in the group because they had to get it done fast because they were running out of time. Moshe is such a sweetheart, he actually smiled and said hi to me. Allison was there too, and it was her birthday. When I saw her, I was like, “HI, ALLISON! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” She just smiled and said thank you. I couldn’t believe my eyes, Justin was standing right in front of me. We took a picture and everyone rushed to hug him because our time was so limited. I remember just grabbing him and giving him a hug. All I could remember was feeling his arm around my waist and the way he smelt. I couldn’t say anything to him, I was just speechless. I hugged him and the security told us to leave. I wrote Justin a letter and I wanted to give it to him personally but everyone was crowding around him so it was hard to give it to him. Moshe saw me and he took the letter from me. When I saw the next group going up to meet him, I just stood in front of the stage. I was just watching him. He looked so flawless. His skin was so soft and he smelt so good. July 14th was the best day of my life. I never thought that I could actually have this opportunity. I will never forget the feeling I had when I saw him on stage or the way he looked at me and my poster while he was singing. Justin, I love you so much. Thank you for everything that you do for your fans. We love you so much! – @sarah_eunice21 PS: Never in a million years did I think I would write my experience. That’s me at 7:55 saying, “I can’t wait to have my Bieber experience” and look at me now. If I could do it, you can too Here is the original post: My Bieber experience took place on July 14th 2012, it was the…

‘Horrible Bosses’ star even filthier than Jon Hamm and Colin Farrell in brand-new Movie Awards category. By Jason Kaufman and Jocelyn Vena Jennifer Aniston in “Horrible Bosses” Photo: Warner Bros. In the end, Jennifer Aniston wound up being the filthiest of them all. Aniston took home the very first Best On-Screen Dirtbag prize at the MTV Movie Awards for her role as sex-crazed dentist Julia Harris in “Horrible Bosses.” The category was introduced this year to celebrate the most cringe-worthy characters to hit the big screen this year. But before she took the stage, a real-life cringe-worthy moment took place when some audience member heckled presenters Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg when they took the stage. The actress shook off the jab, with “Ted” co-star Wahlberg by her side, and handed the Golden Popcorn to Aniston. “I mean, do you know how long I have tried to have somebody let me unleash my on-screen dirtbag? A really long time,” Aniston told the room. “And thank God this category just popped up. So I would like to say ‘thank you’ to the television show ‘Friends’ for letting me unleash the inner sweetheart and here’s to [director] Seth Gordon for allowing me to be a dirtbag.” Aniston faced some stiff competition. Bryce Dallas Howard made for a horribly racist Miss Hilly in “The Help.” Jon Hamm used bedroom acrobatics to turn Kristen Wiig upside down in “Bridesmaids.” Aniston’s own “Bosses” co-star Colin Farrell had gotten reckless with a mound of cocaine and a slimy mustache. And then there was “Project X” star Oliver Cooper for his over-the-top party-boy antics. Cooper made the case for why he should win to MTV News all week. “I f—ed up an entire neighborhood. I didn’t care about my friends. I still don’t care about those guys, OK? What else did I do in that movie? I don’t even remember. It’s all a blur. I don’t even care about the movie — that’s how much of a dirtbag I am,” Cooper told us. “I just want that goddamn popcorn, so I can have a career.” In the end, all of Cooper’s campaigning didn’t matter since the Golden Popcorn is headed towards Aniston’s mantle. When MTV News caught up with the unexpected scene-stealer last summer to discuss “Bosses,” she revealed how
John Mayer has been out of commission lately. Not that we’re complaining. Turns out neither is he. In his first interview in over a year, the singer-songwriter told Ellen DeGeneres yesterday that his infamous Playboy and Rolling Stone interviews in 2010 made him reflect on his life and become an adult. “I did a couple of really dumb interviews and it woke me up,” he said. “I lost my head for a little while. I lost touch and I didn’t want to ask for directions.” John Mayer on Ellen John said he needed to act 34 “instead of 28 for the fifth year” and escape to small-town Montana where he recorded his new album, Born and Raised . The experience of living and recording out there “rocketed” him into adulthood, with Mayer saying he needed “a few years just to figure it out.” As for Born and Raised , out next week, it’s his “honest and cohesive” album yet, with John saying that leaving the spotlight after relationships with ” sexual napalm ” herself Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston was the best thing he ever did. “I live in Montana, in the middle of nowhere,” he said. “It’s really excellent… you get to a certain age where you prepare for happiness, but you sometimes don’t remember to get happy. I remembered how to get happy.” Sounds remarkably un- douchebag -like, doesn’t it? Who is this Dances With Wolves-like man and what has he done with John Mayer?
