No gay rights for you! Republican Party Declares That Marriage Is Not For Gays Reince Priebus , chairman of the Republican National Committee, said the party’s platform on gay marriage has not changed despite the massive effort spearheaded by the RNC to make the party more inclusive. Via HuffPo reports: “I know our party believes marriage is between one man and one woman,” Priebus told MSNBC’s Luke Russert on Wednesday morning. Striking a more conciliatory tone, Priebus added, “I also know that we have a party that’s going to be inclusive and is going to listen to people … That’s the type of party that I want to continue to build.” Priebus’ reiteration of the Republican Party’s view on marriage comes at a politically sensitive time. The RNC just released a major report detailing ways to modernize the party and make it more attractive to minority groups, including LGBT voters. Meanwhile, a Washington Post/ABC News poll released Monday showed support for gay marriage is at its highest level ever: Fifty-eight percent of Americans said they believe gay marriage should be legal. Priebus’ comments also follow Ohio Sen. Rob Portman’s declaration of his support for gay marriage in an opinion piece in the Columbus Dispatch. Portman, who was encouraged to make the announcement by his openly gay son, met with fellow Senate Republicans on Tuesday to discuss his views on marriage equality. He said afterward that he didn’t think any of his colleagues on the Republican side of the aisle were evolving on the issue of gay marriage. While the Republican platform will not coincide with Portman’s views on marriage equality, Priebus confirmed that the RNC will still support him. “Of course we’re going to help Rob Portman,” Priebus said. “He’s a good conservative Republican.” Note to RNC: When you deliberately deny citizens of our country civil rights based on morality instead of the US Constitution, which you swore to uphold, you look incredibly stupid.

If THIS guy is calling you an “idiot” then you KNOW it’s bad… Fidel Castro lambasted the Republican presidential race as the greatest competition of “idiocy and ignorance” the world has ever seen in a column published Wednesday, and also took shots at the news media and foreign governments for seizing on the death of a Cuban prisoner to demand greater respect for human rights. Castro’s comments came in a long opinion piece carried by official media two days after Republican presidential hopefuls at a debate in Florida presented mostly hard-line stances on what to do about the Communist-run island, and even speculated as to what would happen to the 85-year-old revolutionary leader’s soul when he dies. Cuba has become an important issue as the candidates court Florida’s influential Cuban-American community in an effort to win the biggest electoral prize so far in the primary season. Castro said he always assumed the candidates would try to outdo each other on the issue of Cuba, but that he was nonetheless appalled by the level of debate. “The selection of a Republican candidate for the presidency of this globalized and expansive empire is – and I mean this seriously – the greatest competition of idiocy and ignorance that has ever been,” said the retired Cuban leader, who has dueled with 11 U.S. administrations since his 1959 revolution. The Palin replacement, Michele Bachmann, is just ratchet. Her and those Republicans will incite hate and promote racial tension to win the 2012 election. But, uh, good luck with that. “Everything I ever needed to know I learned,” says Minnesota Congresswoman and Republican Presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann. With her first words, she lets you know she grew up here. Michele Bachmann is out to impress Iowans, but really has her eye on Tea Partiers. “One thing I know growing up in Iowa we as a family never spent more money than what we took in. I call that Econ 101.” In the blazing hot sun, more than 200 people gathered to hear Bachmann preach about out of control government spending and our country’s growing debt ceiling. They’re words Iowans in the crowd echoed. Michelle Bachmann wants the job to lead it there. She’s eager to align herself with the Tea Party and says Democrats, as well as President Obama should fear for their job. “They want you to think that the Tea Party made up of toothless hillbillies coming down out of hills wearing red, white and blue but the fact is they should be afraid of Tea Party,” says Bachmann. Over the past three weeks, the Tea Party Bus Tour signed up more than 1,000 Iowans for their grassroots campaign. “A Tea Party candidate advocating for Tea Party principals will win Iowa and they will move on,” says Ryan Rhodes of the Iowa Tea Party Revolution. Rhodes says Bachmann’s drawn bigger crowds than any other candidate; a sign of her strength. “I think it will be very hard to beat Bachmann in Iowa.” Hmm, “toothless hillbillies” … who said that? Oh, how we would love for her to be nominated and make it easy for the Dems. Click here to see video Source

It’s official, nearly 900 million in food aid for low income families will be cut. They sure didn’t waste anytime with this one … The Republican-led House rejected bipartisan attempts to reduce farm subsidies Thursday and passed a food and farm spending bill that makes deep cuts in food aid at home and abroad. It would cut the Women, Infants and Children program, which offers food aid and educational support for low-income mothers and their children, by $868 million, or 13 percent from the current level. An international food assistance program that provides emergency aid and agricultural development would drop by more than $450 million, one-third of the program’s budget. Democrats said the cuts to food aid were reckless and that subsidies should be trimmed instead. “The Republican bill is harmful, ineffective and plays politics with our children’s health,” said Rep. George Miller, D-Calif. These are our tax dollars being put to use in these programs and further proves why it’s so important to vote! We have yet to imagine that strain this will put on families who really need the added support. SMH Source
