Shannon Beador: I’m Dating as Many Men as I Want!

Back in April, Shannon Beador reached a divorce settlement with David after what felt like an eternity of vicious, bitter court fights. Since her split, Shannon has been dipping her toes into the world of dating again. Actually, she’s taken a real plunge. Her castmates tease her for being a “heartbreaker” because, after her latest breakup, she’s now dating multiple men. RadarOnline reports that the The Real Housewives of Orange County star has been “cooling off” her romance with Comcast exec Rick Stanley. These days, Shannon Beador is dating “several men.” And apparently she’s loving every minute of it. “She’s been called a heartbreaker by her cast mates,” the insider reveals. “But,” the source emphasizes. “She is not hurting anyone.” Shannon is rich, famous, and she’s finally getting to enjoy that. “She is having fun being frisky,” the insider shares. Good for her for living her best life! “And,” the source adds, Shannon “is just enjoying her new life.” It’s great that she gets to date and have fun without David’s attorneys breathing down her neck. As the report points out, Shannon hasn’t really been single for a long, long time. She’s 55 years old and a mother of three, but she’s spent so much of her adult life tied down in a deteriorating marriage. “She was with her ex [David Beador] for her whole life,” the insider points out. Which explains why she’s taking time to explore her options instead of diving directly in to another long-term relationship. “And,” the source adds, Shannon “is not wanting to settle down like that anytime soon.” Though things have simmered down with Rick Stanley, the report emphasizes that this wasn’t some dramatic split. “Shannon really enjoyed Rick’s company,” the insider affirms. The source adds that “They got along great,” “But,” the insider explains. “Rick lives in Colorado and she lives in California.” Long-distance relationships can be difficult, even for wealthy people who can afford to travel whenever work allows. “Long distance is one thing,” the insider notes. “But,” the source continues. “That is a completely different ballgame.” Some people form international relationships for years without meeting up in person. In Shannon’s case, she’s trying to get out and about and actually date, so she wants someone a little closer to home. “If Shannon is going to get serious with someone,” the insider reveals. “He is going to have to at least live in the same state as she does.” Shannon has been through so much. Remember, even before she and David divorced, she was already living a stressful, emotionally painful nightmare. She was body-shamed. She was cheated on. And then the divorce got so dirty that she found her home’s water cut off. Not to mention incidents in which David was allegedly seen and heard yelling and swearing at Shannon in the courthouse. Now, she gets to reap the well-earned rewards of her status as a rich, single reality star. We hope that she lives it up on these dates. Meghan King Edmonds Reveals Her Son Has "Irreversible Brain Damage"

Meghan King Edmonds has penned a blog entry in which she opens up about something personal and painful. Titled “My Hart,” this post by the former Real Housewives of Orange County star delves in the state of Hart, one of her twin boys, who was born along with brother Hayes in June of 2018. “From the minute he was born I knew something was different with Hart,” wrote the long-time Bravo personality over this past weekend, adding: “The nurses struggled to straighten his legs to measure his length. He suckled hard, shallow, and often until I bled and he spit up black.” Edmonds, who was recently in the news because her husband has been accused of having an affair while she was pregnant with these boys, went on to write that she took Hart to see a pediatric ophthalmologist for a couple of reasons: He couldn’t see his hands, for example, and his eyes remained crossed for too long. The reality star says she was told nothing was the matter with Hart, but she refused to accept this as an answer. “I just knew,” Meghan continues. “I told our pediatrician – she said he was fine. I begged for a neurologist referral and when I got it – he said he was fine. I then begged for a neurologist who specializes in Cerebral Palsy (I jumped through hoops to get this appointment, so many hoops) and she said he might be fine. “I then begged for an MRI.” Via “an elective MRI with anesthesia,” as Edmonds describes it, a diagnosis was finally made. “I sat at a table with my husband for an hour as we waited for Hart to come out of the MRI. Tears gushed from my eyes as I blankly stared at the cars on the highway – but I wasn’t crying,” she recalled in this blog post. “My husband asked me what he could do. ‘Get me a Coke.’ Those tears were for a lot of things, but mostly the unknown and mostly Hart.” Three days after the exam, the toddler’s neurologist called. He relayed the awful news. “Hart has minor Periventricular Leukomalacia on both sides of his brain (namely the white matter), but more so on his right,” Edmonds revealed, explaining in further detail: “She said that this explains all of my concerns: the rigidity in his muscles, the (somewhat) delayed physical milestones, the lack of fluidity with arm and leg movements, the stiffness in joints, the weakness in his lower back, the somewhat favored use of his right side. “She told me this mainly occurs in premies and since he was not a premie (he was born at 37 weeks gestation) she believes this damage somehow occurred ‘a couple months before he was born.’ “She explained that he is at risk for being diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and will be monitored.” Edmonds previously opened up about her reaction to her husband’s misdeeds . But this admission is even more raw and unimaginable. “Hart has irreversible brain damage, it’s called PVL,” Meghan says. “Like I said, I already knew.” Referencing her husband and his reaction, along with how she chose to view the situation, Edmonds adds: “That night Jimmy and I went out to dinner for the first time in weeks. “I explained to Jimmy how we are not somehow compromised or punished for having a child with special needs (whatever that may or may not mean!), we are BLESSED. I will go on about this another time but just know that I do not see his diagnosis as anything but a gift: we were chosen to take on this special person. “I truly feel as if we’ve doubled down and won the underdog hand. Truly.” And Edmonds is stillt trying tomake the best out of the situation. She’s still trying to remain as positive as possible. “I pray for a miracle and I grapple with how to navigate his life,” she wrote. “This is a heavy challenge as a mother: where do we go from here?  This is where: one foot in front of the other.” We applaud Edmonds for her candid post and we send her and her loved ones the very best during this difficult journey.

Amber Portwood: Released From Jail … to Go to Prison?!

Remember a few days ago when people were still talking about how far Amber Portwood has come, and how she’s doing so much better these days? Things change so quickly, don’t they? To be fair, it’s not that difficult to see why so many people thought that the Indiana native had turned her life around. In the early days of Teen Mom, going back a decade at this point, she was on drugs. Like, insanely hard drugs. She was high all the time, didn’t treat her mental illnesses, and assaulted Gary Shirley in front of their daughter, Leah. Eventually she went to prison for a whole lot of things – drug stuff, plus that previously mentioned domestic violence. She served 17 months of a five-year sentence. Seventeen months. Nearly a year and a half of her life behind bars. When she was released, she talked a lot about how much she’d changed, but it was hard to buy that for some time. After all, she was with mega douche Matt Baier (below). It was also hard to believe she was clean when she kept drinking with Baier, an addict with his own suspect past. After  her truly bizarre appearance on Marriage Boot Camp , many people believed she was back on drugs as well. Then, after leaving the Marriage Boot Camp set, she got with Andrew Glennon, a crew member on the show. Yeah. Her life has been a roller coaster to say the least, and the biggest twists and turns were yet to come … Within literal days of starting their relationship, she was pregnant, but here’s where things seemed to take a turn. After she gave birth to their son, James, it was very noticeable how different she was with him compared to years past. Looking back on Leah when she was a baby, and how Amber responded, it was like watching a different person. In a positive way. It appeared, at least to us, like Andrew did a great job of calming her down and helping her deal with her anger problems. He also helped her with her postpartum depression . “Wow, that Andrew is so good for her,” more than a few Teen Mom fans expressed in recent years. “She’s so different!” Turns out, not so much. Early Friday morning, Amber was arrested for domestic battery  following an incident that was concerning to say the least. We still don’t have the full story, but around 3:00 a.m., Andrew was holding James and Amber allegedly assaulted him. He sent a text to 911, a cool new feature in their state, and the responder called police, saying: “I received a text message from someone saying that their life and their son’s life is in danger.” A few hours later, police arrived to arrest the 29-year-old reality star, and she was taken to the local jail to be processed. She stayed there all day, and there was some speculation that since the domestic battery charge was a felony, she’d stay there until Monday morning when she could see a judge. Not so! She was finally released yesterday afternoon after being bonded out – all in all, she spent right around a day and a half behind bars. She still has to see a judge on Monday morning, specifically at 8:30. Now, we’re not legal experts or psychics or anything like that, but still, we get a feeling that this isn’t going to go so well. Remember, this isn’t the first time Amber’s been arrested for domestic violence. Years ago, she was originally arrested on three counts of this same act, and sentenced to probation. When she violated that probation, that’s when she went to prison before. Indiana, where she lives, is one of the states that has the “three strike law,” which should truly terrify her. Essentially, if a person is convicted of a violent felony multiple times, they’ll have to serve the full sentence the third time around. Considering that the full sentence for a repeat offender wouldn’t be a light one in all likelihood, that makes it pretty clear that they take crimes like these seriously, don’t you think? We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to get an update on what’s happening, but in the meantime, maybe we’ll get a day of rest in the midst of all this Teen Mom drama . Eh, probably not. Joy-Anna Duggar Bashed for Sharing Photos with Stillborn Baby

Just a few days ago, Joy-Anna Duggar and her husband, Austin Forsyth, shared some unbelievably tragic news: When they went in for the 20 week scan for Joy-Anna’s pregnancy, the doctor couldn’t detect a heartbeat. Miscarriages typically happen during the first trimester, but for some reason, Joy had one halfway through the gestation – and it was clear that she and Austin were absolutely devastated by the news. Thankfully, as they explained in their social media posts about the news, they’ve been able to find some solace in their faith. “Although we don’t understand why,” they wrote, “God has given us unexplainable peace and comfort during this very difficult time.” “Yes, it still hurts and we have cried countless tears, but we know that we can trust the Lord.” They also revealed that during the scan, they learned that they were going to have a daughter , and that they named her Annabell Elise. As for the meaning behind the name choice, they said “Annabell means ‘God has favored me,’ and Elise means ‘God satisfies.'” “What a precious thing to know that when our daughter opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was the face of Jesus.” Along with their written post, they also shared a photo of Joy in a hospital bed with Austin comforting her. The next day, they shared even more photos, including some with their late daughter . Those are the ones we’re going to be discussing today. In the caption of the photos, Joy wrote “We only had her for 20 weeks, Life is fragile and precious.” “So thankful the Lord gave her to us for that short time! She will be in our hearts forever!” She also thanked her followers for their love and support, and her best friend, Carlin Bates, “for coming to town to be here for me and for doing my hair and makeup for pictures with our little girl!” They didn’t share a photo of Annabell — the most you can see of her is a hat covering her head as Joy holds her. But because she was in the photos at all, and because of Joy’s comments about having her hair and makeup done, a lot of people are feeling a lot of feelings about all of this. As one of their followers said, “This is a very private moment for y’all to be sharing it … sad. Y’all are different.” “OK, that needed to be a private moment,” another Instagram user agreed. “Not something that you get your hair and makeup done and dress up a miscarriage. We are all praying for you but REALLY. Get real!” One person went a step further, commenting “Honestly it seems a little sadistic to me to have a full on photo shoot with a deceased baby, just for likes on the internet. I could never.” Another particularly insensitive comment read “Hair and makeup to take pics with your dead baby?! Jesus sweetheart your families priorities are disgusting.” These are just a small sampling of the comments on Joy and Austin’s Instagram post, but similar things were said in several places across the internet where the Duggars are discussed. And it’s honestly not OK. The loss that Joy has experienced is huge, and one that not everyone will go through. You can judge the Duggars for all sorts of things, but you can’t judge them for she’s grieving now. It’s not uncommon for people to do photo shoots like these to remember the only time they’ll be able to see and hold their child, and if Joy wanted to look nice for such an unimaginably tragic occasion, what harm does it really do? Besides, so many women have already thanked her for, as they see it, being brave enough to share such personal photos because they too have had similar losses, and it’s nice to know they’re not alone. Some may have a hard time looking at these photos, and that’s understandable. Adam Sandler Pens Heartfelt Tribute to Cameron Boyce

Hollywood is reacting in shock and sorrow to the death of a young actor today. As previously reported,  Cameron Boyce is dead at the very young age of 20. The Disney Channel star, best known for roles in Jessie and Descendents, passed away in his sleep after suffering a seizure. “It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron,” the actor’s family said in a statement on Sunday, adding in awful detail: He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him. We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother. In the wake of this tragic news going viral, a number of stars have taken to social media to express their sadness and send their condolences. And one of the most prominent tributes was penned by Adam Sandler. “Too young. Too sweet. Too funny. Just the nicest, most talented, and and most decent kid around,” Sandler wrote on Twitter. He appeared opposite Boyce in both Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2. Added the long-time star: “Loved that kid. Cared so much about his family. Cared so much about the world. Thank you, Cameron, for all you gave to us. So much more was on the way. All our hearts are broken. Thinking of your amazing family and sending our deepest condolences.” Just so heartbreaking all around. Elsewhere, director Kenny Ortega penned the following on Instagram: My Love, Light and Prayers go out to Cameron and his Family. Cameron brought Love, Laughter and Compassion with him everyday I was in his presence. His talent, immeasurable. His kindness and generosity, overflowing. It has been an indescribable honor and pleasure to know and work with him. I will see you again in all things loving and beautiful my friend. I will search the stars for your light. Rest In Peace Cam. You will always be My Forever Boy. There was also the following from Charles Esten, who appeared on Jessie as Boyce’s character’s dad. “My family and I are devastated today, by the loss of our young and amazing friend, Cameron Boyce. Years before I was blessed to play his father on JESSIE, we were blessed to know him and his wonderful family at the elementary school our kids all attended together,” the Nashville alum began in a series of Tweets. He continued: “It was there we were introduced to his endless talent, kindness, and joy for living. At his very 1st talent show, little Cameron’s dancing lit up the stage, and left everyone on their feet, cheering. “It was clear to all that he was destined to be the star he would soon become. And yet, Cameron never carried himself with anything but kindness, humility, effortless grace, and great humor. “Even as his star ascended with JESSIE, and he began to receive the type of fame that can change people, I never saw that change. Not even a little.” And this from actress and Disney Channel co-star Skai Jackson: “I don’t even know where to start… I am at a loss for words. I never thought in a million years I would be writing this. “Cam, you were one of a kind. My heart will be forever broken. I am so happy that I got to spend almost everyday with you on set, you gave the best hugs. I wish I would have hugged you tighter when I saw you a couple of months ago. “Thank you so much for being the big brother I never had… I am so distraught and I cannot stop crying! I love you so much… fly high, Gods best Angel.” Boyce made his acting debut at the age of nine and then was cast in Grown Ups at the age of 11. We’ll conclude this post with these words from Gregg Sulkin: Heartbroken. Lost for words. I had known Cameron Boyce for many years. He was always polite. Always respectful and always a class act. In fact I was going to message him a couple weeks ago to tell him that I wanted to be in each other’s lives more. Now I wish I had sent that message. Jenelle Evans Taunts Amber Portwood in Wake of Troubling Arrest

Jenelle Evans and Amber Portwood have a lot in common. They are both members of Teen Mom Nation…  they both have multiple children… and they've both run afoul of the law on multiple occasions. The latest (SERIOUS!) transgression took place early on the morning of July 5, when Portwood got arrested for felony domestic assault . The victim? Andrew Glennon, Amber's long-term boyfriend and the father of her one-year old son. According to a 911 dispatch call, Glennon feared for his toddler's life . Like we said: SERIOUS stuff. So, how did Evans reacts to this Portwood news? In typical Evans fashion. Scroll down to see what we mean… 1. Let’s Start with What Happened Around 3 a.m. on July 5, Glennon texted 911 (this is permitted in the state of Indiana) and said that Amber attacked him while he was holding little James. 2. YIKES A spokesperson for the Indiana Police Department spoke to Radar Online and confirmed what led to Portwood’s arrest, telling the celebrity gossip website: “I received a text message from somebody saying that their life and their son’s life is in danger. During which time the female, later identified as Amber Portwood, assaulted him, while he was holding their 1-year-old child.” 3. Now What? Portwood was taken into custody on a FELONY charge of domestic violence. She is due in court for a hearing on July 8. 4. There’s a History Here A pretty major one: Amber was arrested back on 2010 for also attacking then-boyfriend Gary Shirley. 5. She Went to Jail for the Act After violating terms of her probation by taking drugs, Portwood spent 17 months in prison, starting in early 2013. 6. But Gary is Here for Her Now In a way. Archie Harrison Christening Photos: Royally Adorable!

For Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, it’s official. And also so gosh darn precious. On Saturday morning, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gathered their loved ones at Windsor Castle for a special religious event about two months in the making. We’re talking, of course, about the Christening of Royal son Archie, who was at the center of a blessed event that brought together friends, family members and even rumored foes. Among the most notable attendees? Doria Ragland, Markle’s mother, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton, Markle’s supposed blood rivals. As seen in a family portrait shared on Harry and Meghan’s Instagram account (above), Prince Charles and wife Camila, Duchess of Cornwall were also there… along with Princess Diana’s sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes. What an amazing image, right? And the same can be said for the one of Meghan and Harry down below: “This is a beautiful milestone and they are excited to share it as a family first and then with the world,” said a People Magazine source of Harry and Markle, who wore a white Dior dress to her son’s christening. As for the official caption affiliated with these brand new family pictures? This is what the Palace wrote of the Christening online: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment. Their Royal Highnesses feel fortunate to have enjoyed this day with family and the godparents of Archie. Archie came into the world on May 6. Two days later, he made his public debut when his famous parents strolled out in front of a select number of journalists and posed for a few gorgeous photographs. Since this time, Markle has remained on maternity leave and the couple has mostly kept themselves and their son far away from the spotlight … much to the irritation of some British citizens. Meghan and Harry’s desire for this privacy has been met with a great deal of criticism from those whose tax money helps fund their home and lifestyle. The Duchess and Duke of Sussex have offered just a scant few glimpses of their son since his birth in May — and the public has yet to see his full face. The former actress and her red-headed soulmate also continue to break from recent royal tradition, in this case NOT publicly announcing the names of their son’s godparents around the time of his Christening. Moreover, Markle and Harry will soon whisk Archie off to Africa . But, hey, at least we’ll always have the snapshots above, right? They’re adorable. Ryan and Mackenzie Edwards: Actually Expecting Baby #2!

Troubled Teen Mom OG ne’er-do-well Ryan Edwards suddenly has a brand new reason to stay clean, sober and out of jail. Or, to be more specific, Ryan Edwards will have a brand new reason to stay clean, sober and out of jail … in about six months. That is when he and wife Mackenzie Standifer (Edwards) will welcome their second child into the world. Oh, yes, folks, Ryan is about to be a father once again! This exciting, unexpected and sort of frightening news was broken late on Friday by Mackenzie herself, as she shared a very clear sonogram photo on her Instagram page and wrote as a caption: Baby Girl Edwards is coming in January! So there you have it: an approximate due date AND a gender reveal, all wrapped up in one scary sentence. Scary, that is, only due to Ryan’s history as a father and simply as a human being in general. He and Mackenzie are parents to his son Bentley (with his ex Maci Bookout) and their son Jagger. Mackenzie, meanwhile, is the mother of Hudson, her son from her first marriage. Jagger (above) was born just this past October – but Edwards was not around for the birth because he was in rehab for the third time due to drug and alcohol abuse. Just a few months after being released, Edwards went to prison for 90 more days after he was arrested on a charge of theft and also for an outstanding warrant in connection to a past drug possession charge. (In this latest instance, Edwards was accused of ordering six whiskey drinks at a bar in January, only to exit the establishment without paying his tab.) The disgraced Teen Mom star has been in and out of both rehab and prison for years. He rose to fame back in the day as the father of a now-10-year old Bentley, who he shares with veteran MTV star Maci Bookout (above). As recently as last year, Mackenzie and Ryan said they were leaving Teen Mom because, in their view, producers did not want someone in the cast who had been so closely and frequently involved with drugs. But the couple just recently returned for the start of a new season. They seem to be strangely stable, as well, at least in terms of having no plans to ever get divorced. Yes, Ryan has been abusing drugs for nearly the entirety of their relationship. And, yes, he allegedly went on Tinder, hit on women and asked to be hooked up with cocaine as soon as he left rehab late last year. But Mackenzie has made it clear, long before this pregnancy reveal went viral, that she is committed to her marriage. Asked by a follower in March if she had plans to leave her husband, Mackenzie responded as sharply as possible. “Hell no,” she wrote online. To Mackenzie’s credit, she has refrained from trashing Ryan in public as well. Despite the reality star giving his wife plenty of understandable reasons to do so, especially over the past several months, they have dealt with it largely in house. “You deal with your crap at home,” she told fans this spring, adding: “That’s how I was raised, and that’s how I’m going to be. I’m not going to publicly humiliate him. That does not work and I believe that’s so disrespectful to do that.” That’s actually admirable, we guess. And just think: all Edwards has to do is be present for the little girl’s birth and it’ll be an improvement on last time, too. Way to set a very low bar for yourself, dude. Seriously, though, we hope you have learned from your past mistakes and we do wish you and Mackenzie the best here. Don’t eff it up, Ry Guy. Jenelle Evans Details Custody Hearing, Vows: I’m Coming for Jace Next!

Jenelle Evans is not satisfied. She’s happy, yes. But the disgraced former Teen Mom star has made clear in a new interview that she isn’t about to just sit back and enjoy the time with her recently-reunited family… … because one key member is missing. On Wednesday evening, we were among the first outlets to report that Jenelle and her biogted husband, David Eason, had regained custody of Jenelle’s two youngest kids and Eason’s daughter from a previous relationship. The trio of youngsters had been removed by Child Protection Services after Eason admitted to killing the family dog and a judeg decreed that the controversial couple was not maitaining a safe environment for its kids. This took place on May 28 and Evans had spent the past few weeks in and out of court, fighting for the return of her kids. We recapped yesterday’s custody decision and the preceding scandal below: View Slideshow: Jenelle Evans: I’m Getting My Kids Back! “I am ecstatic to regain custody of my kids back!” Jenelle told E! News shortly after the judge reached his latest decision, adding last night: “Through out this long process and final decision, I am excited to be moving forward and continuing to show America I’m a good parent.” This will likely take a lot of convincing, considering all America has seen Jenelle do and say over the years. But Jenelle told Champion Daily after the hearing that the public has the wrong image of her and Eason, explaining that there’s no proof out there at all that they’re kids are being raised in any sort of dangerous home. “[The judge] didn’t find any evidence against us of neglect or abuse of any sort,” Evans now says. She went on to say that Ensley and Kaiser’s teachers described in court how the couple “were as parents for the past two years,” that this helped paint a positive picture of the couple and: “With everything that was presented as evidence, the judge found that CPS only had ‘hearsay.’ What CPS presented didn’t stand up to the definition of abuse or neglect. “When the judge said her decision it was so ‘matter-of-fact’ tone and blunt that I was in shock but bursted out into tears immediately!” As of 10 a.m. EST on July 4, Ensley and Kaiser were ordered to be returned to Jenelle’s home in North Carolina. What about nine-year old Jace, however? He’s been living with his grandmother (and Jenelle’s mother) for a long time now; Barbara Evans is his legal guardian and Jenelle is only permitted to have supervised visits. (She also recently called 911 to ask for a welfare check on the children living under her mom’s roof.) On a roll with the court now, however, Jenelle says she’s determined to change this arrangement. She noted last night that she’s focused on building a stronger relationship with Jace and is then “planning on getting full custody.” Moreover, Jenelle and Eason are attending “parenting classes and substance assessments” in order to better themselves. Earlier this year, MTV cut ties with Evans following the dog killing incident… but Evans says she is just ready to focus on the improving both herself and her reputation as a whole. “I just want to be home with my kids and hear them arguing, hear ‘Mom, I want a snack,’ or hear ‘Goodnight, I love you,’” she told Champion Daily, concluding: “I missed it so much and so glad to have that back.” For the sake of these very young children, let’s hope she means that.

Halle Bailey Cast as The Little Mermaid, Racists Flip Out on Twitter

Halle Bailey is about to be part of our big screen world. The 19-year old — who forms one half of the R&B duo Chloe X Halle, along with her sister — has been cast as Ariel in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Said director Rob Marshall of the decision to cast Bailey in the title role of the film, which is based entirely on the iconic 1989 Disney cartoon: “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance – plus a glorious singing voice – all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.” Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are also also talks to star and lend their voices to the movie, which will begin production in 2020. The Little Mermaid will be the latest Disney cartoon to be remade in this live-action fashion, following this spring’s Aladdin and this summer’s The Lion King. So… that’s it, right? End of story and end of this latest piece of interesting movie news? NOPE! Because social media can be a terrible place, full of judgment A-Holes and racists in general, many people out there are aghast over Bailey’s casting. Because they thought it was Halle Berry who was cast as Ariel? Actuallly, yes. This was an initial misunderstanding. But the bigger uproar has centered around the fact that Bailey is African-American and the character of Ariel was not. Of course, she as also a mermaid and Bailey is a human… but no one has really objected to this difference between the singer and the curious mermaid. This person, for example, tried to use science to argue that Ariel simply had to be white: There was also the use of the fake term “blackwashing,” along with some attempts to reason that Ariel is Dutch and, therefore, well, you see… We’ll spare you the disgusting details of other, similar Tweets. But know this: There’s a Change.org petition, which we are NOT about to link to, that calls for Bailey to be fired there must be “justice for Ariel” and the petition signees aren’t about to let “Disney ruin our childhood.” We don’t even know what to say about people who actually get worked up over what ethnicity they think a cartoon ought to be when he or she is brought to life by an actual person. Go outside? Take a nice, long walk? Try to re-evaluate every aspect of your life? Because, seriously, you are 1. Mostly just being racist; and 2. Really need to direct this anger toward pretty much anything else of importance in the world. The above Tweet is how Bailey herself reacted to the casting news. Pretty awesome image, isn’t it?
