A.J. Pero Dies; Twisted Sister Drummer Was 55

A.J. Pero, the lead drummer for rock band Twisted Sister, was found dead on Friday in Poughkeepsie, New York. He was 55 years old. According to multiple outlets, Pero was found unresponsive on the group’s tour bus and pronounced dead soon afterward at a nearby hospital. It is believed he passed away from a heart attack. “The members of Twisted Sister are profoundly saddened to announce the untimely passing of our brother, AJ Pero,” the group announced on Facebook this afternoon. “The band, crew and most importantly the family of AJ Pero thank you for your thoughts and prayers at this time.” Pero joined Twisted Sister in 1982; departed the band in 1986; and returned in 1997. He played on all but one of the beloved hair metal band’s studio albums. Via statement, singer Dee Snider referred to Pero as “the final piece in a band that would become an international sensation, adding: “His sledgehammer assault on the drums helped drive Twisted Sister and I to greatness, and inspired me to rock every single show. My heart breaks knowing I will never feel the power of his beat behind me, or turn to see his face smiling broadly from the sheer joy he got from doing what he loved.” Celebrities We Lost in 2015 1. Ben Woolf, an actor best known for portraying the character of Meep on American Horror Story: Freak Show, died today of injuries he suffered last week after being hit by a car. He was only 34 years old. As previously reported, Ben Woolf was jaywalking in Hollywood when he got clipped in the head by the side view mirror of an SUV. He was rushed to the hospital. The driver was not arrested or ticketed. The star has been heavily sedated since the terrible incident and passed away from a stroke this afternoon, multiple media outlets have confirmed. “We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from all over the world for our beloved Ben,” Woolf’s family says via statement. “He touched so many hearts in his 34 years.” A memorial service has been planned in Santa Barbara for some time in the next few days, while the 4’4″ actor’s organs are being donated to science. Lesley Gore Dies: "It’s My Party" Singer Was 68

Lesley Gore, the singer/songwriter who was best known for her infectious 1963 hit “It’s My Party,” passed away today at the age 68. Gore recorded “Party” when she was just 16, and though she’s commonly regarded as a flash-in-the-pan pop star, she used her early success to build a widely-respected songwriting career, even earning an Academy Award nomination for her work on the film Fame in 1980. Gore recorded several other hits throughout her career, including the feminist anthem “You Don’t Own Me,” and the bouncy Marvin Hamlisch classic “Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows.” Despite all of her success, however, “It’s My Party” has remained Gore’s signature hit throughout her career.
