Rick Perry: Indicted For Abuse of Power, Coercion of Public Servant

A grand jury indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Friday for abusing the powers of his office, but the longest-serving governor in state history denies any wrongdoing. Perry allegedly abused the powers of the governor’s office by carrying out a threat to veto funding for state prosecutors investigating public corruption. He promised publicly to nix $7.5 million in funding over two years for the public integrity unit run by the office of Travis County D.A. Rosemary Lehmberg. This threat took place after Lehmberg, a Democrat, was convicted of drunken driving last year, but refused Perry’s calls to resign from her position. No one disputes that Perry is allowed to veto measures approved by the Legislature, as he did in following through on his promise to axe the funds. By using public pressure to boast that he would do so as a means of trying to Lehmberg to quit, however, the grand jury felt he broke the law. Perry, 64, and his legal team adamantly disagree. Mary Anne Wiley, Perry’s general counsel, predicted he will be cleared of the charges against him, and thinks the exercise is largely a political stunt. “The veto in question was made in accordance with the veto authority afforded to every governor under the Texas Constitution,” said Perry’s counsel. David L. Botsford, Perry’s defense attorney, said he was outraged by what he called “political abuse of the court system” with “no legal basis.” Lehmberg, and the grand jury that indicted Perry, are based in Austin, which is heavily Democratic, in contrast to most of the rest of conservative Texas. Abuse of official capacity is a first-degree felony with potential punishments of 5-99 years in prison. Coercion of a public servant carries 2-10 years. In office since 2000, Perry isn’t seeking re-election in November as he readies for what many believe will be second run for the White House in 2016. When he ran for president in 2012, Perry plummeted from brief front-runner for the Republican nomination to national punchline after a series of gaffes. Rick Perry Stumbles in Debate Rick Perry’s campaign for president is probably done for after this almost comically bad performance in last night’s debate. OOPS.

Really???? Death Penalty Overturned For Kansas City Bros Who Raped And Executed Four Friends

Rapist murderers don’t deserve this kind of luck Murderous Carr Brothers Have Death Penalty Sentence Overturned Via DailyMail The Kansas Supreme Court on Friday overturned the death sentences of two brothers convicted of killing four friends who were robbed and forced to engage in sex acts before being shot to death and left in a snow-covered Wichita field. The court also struck down three of the four capital murder convictions each against Jonathan and Reginald Carr, citing procedural problems at the brothers’ joint trial for its decisions. It upheld one capital murder conviction for each of them. Prosecutors said the brothers broke into a Wichita home in December 2000 and forced the five people there to have sex with each other and later to withdraw money from ATMs. Two women were raped repeatedly before all five were taken to a soccer field and shot while they were kneeling. Four of them — 29-year-old Aaron Sander, 27-year-old Brad Heyka, 26-year-old Jason Befort and 25-year-old Heather Muller — died. One of the women survived a gunshot wound to the head and she ran naked through the snow to seek help. She became a key witness at the brothers’ trial on the capital murder convictions. The killings ended a series of crimes that authorities alleged the Carr brothers committed over nine days in December 2000. How did these brothers escape the death chamber after committing such heinous crimes? Well… The Kansas Supreme Court ruled 6-1 in overturning the Carr brothers’ death sentences because the presiding judge did not hold separate sentencing proceedings for each man. In overturning most of their capital murder convictions, the majority said the instructions to jurors had been flawed because the judge tied those charges to the rape of the surviving victim, not the deceased ones. The brothers’ cases will return to Sedgwick County District Court for further proceedings Republican Gov. Sam Brownback and several GOP legislators were immediately critical of the decisions, which involved crimes that were among the most notorious in the state since the 1959 slayings of a western Kansas family that inspired the book In Cold Blood. The legislators said the ruling shows the court’s unwillingness to uphold a death sentence, and the governor said he was stunned. ‘They were convicted by a jury of their peers in front of an elected local judge,’ Brownback said in a statement. ‘Today’s ruling unnecessarily reopens wounds of a tragic moment in Wichita’s history.’ Sounds like these azzholes dodged the bullet that their victims were unable to. Now we have to waste taxpayer money housing them in prison. Images via Police Handout

Bob McDonnell, Wife Charged with Corruption; Ex-Virginia Governor Denies Guilt

Federal prosecutors have charged former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, with taking $120,000 in undocumented loans and numerous gifts. The alleged corruption stemmed from his relationship with the owner of a dietary supplements business and helping it promote products to state officials. Bob McDonnell Indicted The 43-page indictment includes page after page of alleged requests by the McDonnells, Maureen in particular, for help in paying for vacations. And their daughter’s wedding, nearly $20,000 in designer dresses, a Rolex watch inscribed “71st Governor of Virginia” and numerous golf outings. The couple also allegedly asked for private trips on the company’s jet and, once, to use a $200,000 Ferrari. Bob McDonnell has denied any wrongdoing. The lengthy investigation embarrassed state officials and may have contributed to the election of Democrat Terry McAuliffe as governor last year. It also dimmed hopes that McDonnell, considered a rising star in the Republican party, could be a contender for the party’s 2016 presidential nomination. The McDonnells were charged with conspiracy, wire fraud and other crimes. Maureen McDonnell was charged with obstruction for allegedly lying to investigators. The couple are also accused of attempting to conceal the loans and gifts. In a televised statement with his family, McDonnell denied the charges, saying he regretted accepting the gifts, which “all have been returned or repaid with interest.” “I did nothing illegal,” he said. At the center of the drama were supplements that Star Scientific, a former cigarette manufacturer, said could help treat inflammation in diseases such as Alzheimer’s and MS. Officials expressed skepticism, saying there were no data to support the claims, which the company could not make in ads because its pills were not approved by the FDA. Prosecutors allege that in return for the gifts, the McDonnells attended or sponsored functions to introduce Star Scientific’s products to state officials and the public. They also allegedly attempted to arrange scientific research at prestigious state universities that might back up the company’s claims about their products.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Undercover Trainer of the Day

Arnold Schwarzenegger is pretty ridiculous as it is…without producing viral videos that he is producing for after school programming, even though he is probably richer than God, and can just bank roll the shit out of pocket, but I guess his financial management team thought it would be easier to just do a viral video…because he’s already fucked the USA by becoming a Governor despite being of Nazi roots, he’s already fucked the general public by being an blockbuster action star, despite not being able to act, all because of his muscles, and he has already fucked the maid and made illegitimate kids…leaving him one last thing to fuck with…the internet… I think it’s kinda clever.

Hawaii Official Who Verified Obama Birth Certificate Dies in Crash, Donald Trump Alleges Conspiracy

Loretta Fuddy, the director of Hawaii’s Department of Health who verified President Obama’s birth certificate, died in a small plane crash this week. A commercial plane carrying Fuddy went down off the coast of the Hawaiian island Molokai Wednesday. The respected state health official was 65. Fuddy is best known nationally as the Hawaii official who verified and approved the public release of Barack Obama’s birth certificate in 2011. Loretta Fuddy, Hawaii Official Who Verified Obama Birth Certificate, Dies Fuddy said the documents “prove the fact that he was born in Hawaii.” Naturally, birthers weren’t about to let her tragic death pass without mockery. Early reports indicate that the plane she was in suffered catastrophic engine failure, and that the other eight passengers on board were rescued. Naturally, many Tweets, comments, and web posts from the “movement” quickly insinuated that Fuddy’s death in the Cessna crash was no accident. Some implied that the White House was “tying up loose ends,” or that those with ties to Obama’s past tend to have a “shortened life span.” And, of course, the King of the Birthers, Donald Trump, weighed in: Wow. You keep it classy, Donald. Just keep doing your thing. Trump aside, her life and successes are being celebrated. A new report by the United Health Foundation, American Public Health Association and the Partnership for Prevention, confirmed that Hawaii is the healthiest state. Hawaii House Speaker Joe Souki said Fuddy “was especially passionate about the most vulnerable in our communities, a champion for mothers, newborns, and early childhood care.” Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie said “Loretta was deeply loved and respected. She was selfless, utterly dedicated, and committed to her colleagues and to the people of Hawaii.” “Her knowledge was vast,” the governor added, while “her counsel and advice always given from her heart as much as from her storehouse of experience.” R.I.P.
