Katy Perry Says ‘Part Of Me’ Isn’t About Russell Brand

Perry tells MTV News that she wrote the song two years ago, despite rumors that it was in response to her split from Brand. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Ever since its premiere at the 54th Grammy Awards , folks have speculated long and hard about Katy Perry’s “Part Of Me,” and whether its various lyrical barbs — “You can keep the diamond ring, it don’t mean nothing anyway/ In fact, you can keep everything — except for me,” in particular — were aimed at her ex-husband, Russell Brand. It would seem to make sense … after all, Perry’s no stranger to the occasional(ly brutal) kiss-off (check the Teenage Dream track “Circle The Drain” for proof), but there’s just one tiny problem: “Part Of Me” first surfaced in 2010 , two months after Perry and Brand got married in India. And while Katy has yet to speak publically about the pair’s split , she was definitely looking to set the record straight about her latest chart-topping hit … which most certainly isn’t about Brand, no matter what you might think. “I wrote it two years ago, which is funny because everybody is like ‘God, it sounds so current,’ ” she told MTV News recently in Los Angeles. “And some people that I work with were like ‘You should just say you wrote it a couple of weeks ago.’ I’m like ‘I’m not a d—, I’m going to tell the truth.’ I wrote it two years ago when I was writing and recording Teenage Dream, [but] it didn’t feel right on the record. I would’ve had to take out one of my other songs that [made the album] a nice, complete package.” And despite her denials, Perry realizes that some folks will just keep on assuming “Part Of Me” is a direct swipe at Brand … and she really can’t blame them: After all, even she’ll admit that there’s a whole lot about the song that seems practically preordained. “I always planned to put it out in the spring of this year, to possibly perform it at a big [awards show], but sometimes I’m like ‘Am I living in ‘The Truman Show?’ … what’s going on?’ ” she laughed. “Because I sit down and I write all these songs at once, all these emotions and feelings and thoughts, and then, like, it just feels like sometimes I’m caught in this movie where my life is paralleling my music! It seems very serendipitous, but, as un-fun as it sounds, I prepare everything. I’m overly prepared and kind of a control freak in the best of ways. Jennifer Lopez’s Stylist Explains Oscars Wardrobe Malfunction

‘There’s no chance that there were any … slips,’ Mariel Haenn tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz at the 2012 Oscars Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Jennifer Lopez is experienced when it comes to looking sexy at an awards show. Who could forget that low-cut, emerald-green Versace dress she wore to the Grammy Awards in 2000? The actress/ singer/ “American Idol” judge recalled that infamous look on Sunday night when Lopez hit the stage as a presenter at the Oscars and left some fans and viewers wondering whether an unintended part of Lopez’s anatomy had slipped out from her dress. Well, her stylist, Mariel Haenn, tells MTV News in a statement that what you actually saw was a lot of nothing. “The Oscar dress was custom-made for Jennifer by designer Zuhair Murad. The dress fit perfectly to her every inch,” Haenn explained. “There were cups built in and there’s no chance that there were any how do you say? ‘Slips.’ While the dress did give the illusion of sheerness, jokes on everyone who wishes they saw something!” The sparkling gown dazzled on the stage when Lopez stood alongside her “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” co-star, the Gucci-clad Cameron Diaz; the two were presenting the Oscar for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup. Regardless of whether anything did end up slipping out, Haeenn promises that if you liked Sunday’s costume design for Ms. Lopez, then stay tuned: She’s got more sexiness up her sleeve. Haenn said, “If you thought that dress was hot wait until you see what’s next.” The possible nip-slip moment was so hotly debated on Twitter by celebrities and fans that Lopez’s body part even got its own Twitter account. And as you might imagine, the handle is not subtle, simply going by JLos Nipple . The Twitter account seems to have a sense of humor, with jokes like, “I have no regrets. … I have been confined for years and have never been given a chance to be heard. #nipslips.” Another tweet reads, “For people that don’t have HD … I understand why you aren’t following me. For everyone else … you’re welcome.” The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Keep it locked at MTV.com for updates on the night’s big winners and the best red-carpet fashion . Katy Perry’s ‘Part Of Me’ Makes History With #1 Debut

Song’s #1 bow is just the 20th in the 53-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. By James Montgomery Katy Perry Photo: Jeff Bottari/ Getty Images Katy Perry is back in a familiar place with her brand-new single: the top of the Billboard charts. After performing “Part of Me” — the first single off the deluxe reissue of her Teenage Dream album — at the 54th Grammy Awards, Perry sat back and watched as the song debuted at #1 on Billboard ‘s Hot 100, making it just the 20th track in the chart’s 53-year history to bow in the top slot. According to Billboard, Perry joins a list of stars that includes Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears and Eminem (not to mention a host of former “American Idol” champions) who have all accomplished the feat — the last was Lady Gaga, whose “Born This Way” opened at #1 nearly one year ago. In the process, Perry has notched her seventh career Hot 100 #1. “Part of Me” also rocketed to #1 on the Digital Songs chart, racking up more than 411,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That’s a career-best week for Perry, and is the highest opening number for any artist since Gaga sold more than 448,000 downloads of “Born This Way” last year. Perry wasn’t the only artist to benefit from the post-Grammy bounce; Adele, who, as you might have heard, did pretty well at the show , not only sold an astonishing (and record-setting) 730,000 copies of her 21 album last week, but becomes the first female artist in Hot 100 history to have three solo titles in the Top 10: “Set Fire to the Rain” at #2, “Rolling in the Deep” at #5 and “Someone Like You” at #7. Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown, who both received, uh, mixed reviews for their Grammy-night performances, also found their way into the Top 10: Minaj’s “Starships” is in at #9, followed by Brown’s “Turn up the Music,” which lands at #10. Adele Tells Vogue She’s ‘Done With Being A Bitter Witch’

Grammy winner graces the March cover and tells the magazine that she’s ‘never writing a breakup record again.’ By Jocelyn Vena Adele Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic Shortly after winning six Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 12) night, Adele told reporters in the press room that “it hasn’t really sunk in,” and in a just released interview and cover story with Vogue (which had been rumored late last year), she opened up about her pre-Grammys nerves and her hope that she would take home some Grammy gold for her chart-topping, record-breaking 21 . “I burst into tears when I found out,” she told the magazine about her nominations. “And I would love, absolutely love, to win. This record is coming to an end, and that would be the final brick on it.” (She eventually went on to sweep the show, winning the night’s big prizes, Record of the Year and Album of the Year.) On Sunday, she triumphantly returned to the stage to characteristically belt out her star-making breakup track, “Rolling in the Deep.” And when she spoke to Vogue in late 2011 for the interview, she already knew that was the song she wanted to return with. “I’m definitely going to be singing ‘Rolling in the Deep,’ ” she teased. “Because that’s been the biggest hit off the record in America. But I’m going to mix up a little bit — do a bit of a Beyonc
