J. Cole, Missy Elliott Share A ‘Beautiful Moment’ On Video Set

‘It’ll probably be my best video yet,’ Cole tells MTV News of his ‘Nobody’s Perfect’ video on the Grammy red carpet Sunday night. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway J. Cole Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage J. Cole may have started with a dollar and a dream on his 2007 mixtape The Come Up, but the Roc Nation MC has amassed so much more since releasing his major-label debut, Cole World: The Sideline Story, last year. He earned himself a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist , and even though he lost out to Bon Iver on Sunday night, Cole lived out another dream this past week: shooting a video with his idol Missy Elliott . “We just shot the video with Missy Elliott for ‘Nobody’s Perfect.’ My god, that was a moment — that was a moment,” Cole told Sway from the Grammy red carpet right before the big show. In the late 1990s, Missy, who had already spent years behind the scenes as a songwriter, made her mark with a string of hit singles starting with 1997’s “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).” Her music really had an impact on then-teenaged Cole, so shooting the video for the next single off of Cole World means just a bit more to him. “I can tell you Colin Tilley directed it, incredible visuals. It’ll probably be my best video yet, visually,” he said before gushing about Elliott. “Man, just to have Missy on that set and to see her singing the song that I wrote. It’s Missy, I don’t think people really understand; that’s my era and how I look at her and how creative she is and her and Timbaland and the things that they did. That was a beautiful moment right there.” Cole is excited about all of his recent strides, but in no way is the MC content. He revealed to Sway that he plans to hit the road for a four-week college tour and that he was in the lab working on his sophomore album. Not that he would reveal anything beyond that. “I won’t give details; I learned my lesson from the last one,” he said. “But I’m back to work heavy.” What do you think of J. Chris Brown Throws Masked Rave In ‘Turn Up’ Video

Co-directed by the singer, the video is the lead visual off Fortune. By Jocelyn Vena Chris Brown (file) Photo: Jeff Fusco/Getty Images Chris Brown turns up the music to a big 11 in his video for his song “Turn Up the Music.” The video, released on Friday (February 17), follows a well-dressed Brown while he enjoys a dance-filled night on the town. The video tracks Brown from drinking in the street, to hailing a futuristic hover-cab filled with masked creatures, to hitting a warehouse rave filled with even more masked people, all watched over by some woman who appears to be the queen of the party, gazing at everyone from her own perch. From there, the clip is an eye-catching spectacle of various dance routines with Brown displaying his signature smooth moves. During the video, the singer dons several outfits and looks that appear to pay homage to his own hero, Michael Jackson. Rocking well-tailored suits that are accessorized with fedoras and suspenders, Brown performs dancefloor acrobatics as lights and lasers dance around him. Brown’s dance moves are aggressive and in your face, but he is still light on his feet. At one point in the high-energy clip, the footage is slowed down as Brown does a flip. In another memorable scene, Brown dances alone in a rain-filled room, wearing white dress pants, a black tank and a fedora. As the song wraps up, he splits into three people, comes back together, takes off his shirt and throws it at the camera — and breaks the lens doing it. The eye-popping video was co-directed with Godfrey Tabarez and shot in Los Angeles earlier this month. Produced by the Underdogs and Fuego, it’s the lead single off Fortune, out March 16. He performed the song last Sunday at the Grammy Awards . What do you think of the “Turn Up the Music” video? Leave your comment below! Related Artists Chris Brown

Demi Lovato ‘Not In Rehab’

Rep for the singer/actress confirms to MTV News she is not in rehab after rumors hit the Net. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News Demi Lovato can’t seem to escape rumors that she is back in rehab . In the wake of those reports, MTV News has confirmed that she is not. “She’s not in rehab,” a rep for Lovato said, adding that any rumors that the singer/actress skipped the Grammy Awards to seek treatment are also untrue. “She was not supposed to present at the Grammys.” Sources close to Lovato shed some more light on what she is up to, after she tweeted last week, “Away on a mind and body cleansing retreat!! This is exciting. Won’t be tweeting much this week but I love you my sweet lovatics!” “Demi had a week off between work commitments and made the personal decision to spend the week with the professional support team she assembled to help her with her ongoing physical and emotional issues. The trip was previously planned,” the source told MTV News, adding that while Lovato is taking some time for herself, “Demi’s recovery is an ongoing battle. She understands that there will be ups and downs, but is fully committed to working with her team every single day towards a healthy future.” Lovato entered treatment for a number of personal issues in November 2010, remaining until January 2011. Since leaving, she has focused on her music career, including her 2011 album, Unbroken, which launched her empowering hit single “Skyscraper.” She has become a voice for young people struggling with personal issues. In December, Lovato spoke to patients at the Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center, where she had received treatment. “To be able to share my story and let them know that it gets easier … Life is beautiful … you are worthy of it,” Lovato said. “Please say a prayer for all of those struggling with eating disorders, self-harm, mood disorders and substance abuse.” Related Videos Demi Lovato’s Year In Review Related Artists Demi Lovato

Lil Wayne, Usher Help Romeo Santos ‘Revolutionize’ Bachata Music

‘It was the first time you hear an artist from the mainstream singing bachata,’ former Aventura frontman tells MTV News of single ‘Promise.’ By Christina Garibaldi Lil Wayne Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Romeo Santos , the former lead singer of the popular bachata group Aventura , has taken a new step in his career, venturing out on his own as a solo artist. Mixing his signature bachata flair with some R&B, he is showing fans a whole new side on his debut album, Formula, Vol. 1. Hoping to spread his unique sound and style to a mainstream audience, Santos enlisted Lil Wayne for his latest single, “All Aboard.” “This song ‘All Aboard,’ that tune allowed me to expand and kind of offer my audience something totally different because it’s not bachata — I’m singing English and that was really fun,” Santos recently told MTV News. “I was a little nervous about that, but people actually really accepted it.” Santos and Weezy recently shot the video for “All Aboard” in Miami; he called the clip “sexy,” “seductive” and “elegant,” but also revealed that this collaboration came very close to not making his album. “I was just like, I like the song but it’s missing something, and at first I couldn’t figure out what it was,” Santos said. “What we did was we left 16 bars open, and I was like, you know, who would rip this track? Lil Wayne. So we reached out. It barely made the album because he’s a busy dude, so he actually got on the record two months after we submitted it. It was like, if we don’t get his vocals in the next two days we hit, and we got it, so we made it and the song is just really great.” Wayne isn’t the only artist Santos pulled in for his album. On his last single, “Promise,” he teamed up with Usher , who last week joined him onstage at Santos’ first of three sold-out shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden. “I felt at that moment once again I was going to revolutionize bachata ’cause it was the first time that you hear an artist from the mainstream singing bachata,” Santos said. “It was a big deal.” What do you think of Romeo Santos’ solo debut? Kings Of Leon Put Drama Behind, Look Forward To New Album

‘I don’t think it was as big as people thought it was,’ drummer Nathan Followill says of 2011 intra-band sparring. By James Montgomery Kings of Leon attend the 2012 Grammy Awards Photo: Getty Images As anyone who’s seen their “Talihina Sky” documentary can surely attest: The Kings of Leon have never exactly been shy about hiding their familial feuds. Though things got particularly nasty — and particularly public — last August after frontman Caleb Followill abruptly left a sold-out show in Texas (reportedly suffering from “heat exhaustion and dehydration”). In the wake of the incident, the Kings not only canceled the remainder of their U.S. tour , but Caleb’s brother Jared took to Twitter to apologize to fans, and, in the process, hinted at a growing strife within the band, writing, “There are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed. … I can’t lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.” Of course, the band would subsequently return to the road, and those “sicknesses and problems” were never again publically addressed. So, when MTV News caught up with the Kings on the red carpet for the 54th Grammy Awards, we had to ask them: Is everything OK within the KOL camp? “Yeah, over the holidays, [you] break some bread, have some turkey, everyone makes up,” drummer Nathan Followill said. “I don’t think it was as big as people thought it was, but the press machine takes it and runs with it.” So there you have it. And for the record, not only are the Kings copacetic, but they’re getting ready to begin work on the follow-up to 2010’s Come Around Sundown, which they’ll record in their very own studio/good-time emporium in Nashville. “We just bought a rehearsal space-slash-studio in Nashville, so we’re going to spend the next few months getting that up and running; kind of make it our little clubhouse to get there and just kind of goof off whenever we want to,” Followill added. “But, I’d say within the next six months we’ll probably start kicking some stuff around.” And from the sound of things, they’ll have plenty to kick around: Caleb is already writing new material, and he’s itching to let his brothers (and cousin) have a listen. And, just in case you were wondering if he’s holding any resentment over last year’s drama, just know that he’s going to welcome their feedback. “I’ve been writing a lot. Kinda want everyone to get a little break from each other, but whenever they’re ready, I want to play some stuff,” he said. “Well, lyrics, that’s usually one of the last things I do, but the melodies are really strong, and the lyrics that I have written I think are pretty good, but we’ll see. These guys are always a good judge of if I’m going the right way with something or not.” What do you want to hear on the next Kings of Leon album? Leave your comment below. Adele ‘Absolutely Flabbergasted’ After Grammy Wins

Grammy winner also reveals she’s ready to start work on her follow-up to 21. By Jocelyn Vena Adele backstage at the 54th Grammy Awards Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images It was only a few days ago that Adele swept the Grammys, taking home six trophies for her album 21 and hitting the stage for an emotional return to performing after having vocal-cord surgery back in November. In a new blog post titled “5 Was My Favourite Number But Now It Is 6,” the singer reflects on the whirlwind of the last few days. “Oh goodness!! I’m absolutely flabbergasted! In between laughing my head off, welling up, needing to sit down and trying to maintain an open fire (which is pretty much impossible huh!?), I keep having flashbacks to Sunday night. The most incredible night of my life,” she wrote. “Thank you to you all, I am so overwhelmed, it’s the strangest feeling. I have constant butterflies and goose bumps, it’s wearing me out but I LOVE it! “I’ve been sleeping a lot but the minute I wake up I burst out laughing and it starts all over again,” she continued. “I forgot to mention so many people by name on the night, and for that I’m sorry. I will say thanks to your face when I next see you. I was totally unprepared. Despite the phenomenal year, I swear I didn’t think I had any chance. All the categories were full of people I adore with brilliant songs, records and performances. So not in my wildest dreams did I think to actually prepare anything proper to say just in case.” Nestled in between giddy moments in the post, Adele was reflective about the past 12 months. “Thank you to everyone who enjoys my music, and to all the ‘daydreamers’ (I love that you call yourselves that. I read all your messages and threads from time to time and you crack me up x) it seems like you pass 21 on and want people to hear it and it’s because of that that it’s evolved into something that we should all be very proud of,” she wrote. “All of this is yours — the songs, the shows, the moments like this. Not that there’s any other moments like this one, but you get my drift … Ha! The night itself was so amazing, I met so many incredible people and everyone we’ve lost this year were on our minds and in our hearts and it was lovely to remember them all together as fans and friends.” At the end of the lengthy blog post, she addressed some comments she made in Vogue in which she noted she wanted to take five years off. Adele fans, don’t worry. She has no plans to slow down. “I’ve a few days off now, and then it’s the Brit Awards here at home,” she wrote about the show, where she is nominated and will perform. “And then I’m straight into the studio. BOYYAHH! 5 years? More like 5 days!” Related Videos 2012 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Highlights Grammys 2012: Experts React! Related Photos 2012 Grammy Awards: Press Room Related Artists Adele

‘Survivor: One World’ Pits Girls Against Boys

‘I feel like this may be one of the more scandalous seasons in ‘Survivor’ history,’ two-time former contestant Rob Cesternino tells MTV News. By Josh Wigler Survivors on the first episode of Survivor: One World Photo: Monty Brinton/CBS Two tribes, one beach. That’s the setup for the new season of “Survivor,” titled “One World,” premiering Wednesday (February 15). For the third time in “Survivor” history, the line will be drawn in the sand between one tribe of men and one tribe of women … except this time, in a new twist, both teams will be forced to coexist on the very same beach right from the start. So what happens when 18 men and women are forced to live together in the same tropical paradise while competing for a million-dollar prize? According to longtime “Survivor” commentator and two-time contestant Rob Cesternino — often described as “the smartest player who never won the game” — the end result could well be “one of the more scandalous seasons in ‘Survivor’ history.” “You have all these guys and girls living together on one beach, and somebody is bound to hook up … and that’s going to create problems, because that’s the other team,” Cesternino predicted to MTV News about the two same-sex tribes. “Not only are guys and girls going to hook up, but let’s say that the guys catch a bunch of fish and the girls don’t. They have to sit there and watch you eat. What if one of the guys has a girlfriend? Is he going to be sneaking off to give some of the guys’ food to the girls? There’s a lot of possibility for drama and conflict on this season.” Cesternino knows a thing or two about surviving a battle of the sexes. His debut season of “Survivor” was also the one that introduced the men-vs.-women twist, and he emerged in the end with an impressive third-place prize. But “One World” presents a very different challenge from Cesternino’s “Amazon” days, as the men and women are forced to cohabitate in the same exact space this time around. But looking past the gender lines, Cesternino believes the new season of “Survivor” presents a very powerful opportunity for some lucky players. “It seems like the players fit into one of two categories: people who look like popular kids in your high school, and the people who don’t fit that description,” he observed. “I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these young, good-looking guys band together and start hanging out with the young, good-looking girls on the other tribe, and have some sort of super-alliance. ‘You keep those guys together, you keep those girls together.’ Normally you have alliances of four or so people promising to go all the way. Now there’s a chance to merge with [an alliance of] eight people. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a high school alliance here.” Of course, nothing in “Survivor” is ever stable. Despite the initial men-vs.-women setup, Cesternino predicts an eventual tribal switch will shake up each team’s roster. “The switch has become a little pass
