TMZ says Coroner’s officials have told icon’s family she likely died from drugs and alcohol; daughter Bobbi Kristina released from hospital. By Jocelyn Vena Whitney Houston Photo: Epsilon/ Getty Images On Sunday night, the life and impressive career of Whitney Houston was celebrated at the 2012 Grammy Awards , with everyone from Bruno Mars to host LL Cool J and Jennifer Hudson recalling the immense talent of the late icon. Since her passing on Saturday, more reports have surfaced about what might have contributed to her death . After initial speculation that she might have drowned in the bathtub of her Beverly Hills hotel room, a new TMZ report suggests that prescription drugs and alcohol might have played a bigger part in her death than originally believed. Sources tell the site that L.A. County Coroner’s officials have told Houston’s family that despite earlier drowning reports, it’s likely she died of a combination of Xanax, other prescription drugs and alcohol. There wasn’t enough water in her lungs to suggest that drowning played a part, the report says, and she might have died before her head was submerged in water. Her body was reportedly found by her aunt, Mary Jones, who entered the bathroom to check on the singer. Houston’s body will be flown to Atlanta once it is released from the coroner’s office, sources said. Meanwhile, Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina , has been released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after being treated for a stressed-induced panic attack shortly after her mother’s death. Since Houston’s passing, Bobbi Kristina’s father, Bobby Brown, has flown to L.A. to be with his daughter, E! News reports. According to a People.com eyewitness, when he landed in L.A., “Bobby had a blank stare and looked exhausted … His friends seemed concerned about him and they surrounded him as they walked through the airport.” He had been on tour with New Edition when he left the trek to join Bobbi Kristina. Sunday’s hospitalization allegedly wasn’t the only health scare for the 18-year-old over Grammy weekend. TMZ reports that she had fallen asleep in the bathtub Friday at the same hotel where her mother was found dead the next day. By Zachary Swickey deadmau5 performs at the 2012 Grammy Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images While grandparents around the world celebrated the reunion of the Beach Boys at the 54th annual Grammy Awards , fans of electronic dance music held their glow sticks high after the dubstep movement’s leader, Skrillex (24-year-old Sonny Moore), took home three Grammys out of his impressive five nominations — not to mention the live performances from David Guetta and deadmau5 during the telecast. Skrillex — who went from fronting a screamo punk band to being a digital DJ in a few short years — managed to snag awards for Best Dance Album, Best Dance Recording (for “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”) and Best Remix (for his “Cinema” collaboration with Benny Benassi). He lost out on his other two noms, for Best New Artist (folk crooner Bon Iver took that one ) and Best Short Form Music Video (a sweeping Adele nabbed that). Check out our top 10 EDM artists of 2011! EDM’s road to the mainstream hit a high also thanks in part to the particularly awesome pairing of Lil Wayne and Chris Brown for “I Can Only Imagine” with the turntables helmed by French super-producer David Guetta, who at 44 is finally getting some Stateside love (let’s not forget his other ridiculously catchy single “Memories” with Kid Cudi and current chart-dweller “Turn Me On” with Nicki Minaj). “It’s like having a rave outside the Grammys, and I love it!” Guetta told MTV News when asked about his performance before the show. Guetta was happy the EDM community is finally getting some Grammy love, saying, “It’s really exciting, because they wanted to acknowledge electronic dance music, and I think it’s amazing for our scene to finally get the respect that I think it deserves.” An even more surprising performance came from the Foo Fighters and their electronic-music breakdown courtesy of scene icon deadmau5 (many female fans in the crowd could even be seen donning neon “mau5-hats”) for the latter half of their hit tune “Rope.” “deadmau5 is maybe the only EDM artist I know, because we did a bunch of festivals over the summer, and for whatever reason, he would be headlining over there while we were headlining over here,” Grohl told MTV News. “I guess people thought that our audiences would split, but our audiences are compatible in a way, because what he does … rocks.” deadmau5 returned the gratitude to the Foo Fighters, telling us about their performance: “It was actually really well thought out over a month or so. Although Adele bested the Foos with her six Grammy wins compared to their five, the rockers owned the night in their own way, including their part in a tribute to electronic music that also featured David Guetta, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and deadmau5 . When MTV News caught up with the band on the Grammy red carpet — when they had already won four trophies, including Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for “White Limo,” Best Rock Song for “Walk,” Best Rock Album for Wasting Light and Best Long Form Music Video for “Foo Fighters: Back and Forth” — we chatted them up about their pre-show wins, specifically the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance trophy, which frontman Dave Grohl had expressed earlier was the one he wanted most. “We got it!” Grohl said. “I feel so bad for the Dream Theater guy, because they actually had a metal performance, we didn’t, but it’s awesome. That’s kind of the coolest song we’ve ever written,” he said of the edgy “White Limo.” Producer Butch Vig fondly recalls his Wasting Light sessions with the Foos to MTV News. The bandmembers were very relaxed and unaffected by their wins. When we mentioned that their fourth win for Best Rock Album is now the most any rock band has won, they were completely surprised, but grateful nonetheless that they could sit back and focus more on their own performance and the EDM tribute versus the awards. “It’s kind of nice. One day after music icon Whitney Houston was found dead , the show will pay tribute to the six-time Grammy winner. As A-listers hit the red carpet at Los Angeles’ Staple Center, they have been remembering the big-voiced talent for her undeniable gift. “She had the swagger and she had the voice,” Diplo told MTV News during our pre-show live stream. “I was listening to a bunch of records last night, and I was amazed at how deeply I felt about her records as a child.” The producer noted that her contributions to music of all genres still resonated today, thanks to her ability to bust genres wide open and make them all her own. “She had that persona that pulled of pop music and urban and R&B in a way that no one else could do it,” he added. EDM producer A-Trak said that it wasn’t just her catalog that made her iconic, but also her voice. “Just pure talent, incredible voice and the whole package, the personality the presence,” he said, “once in a generation, spectacular talent.” Jennifer Hudson and Houston’s longtime friend Chaka Khan are expected to lead a tribute to the late icon during the Grammys. ‘It’s more of really a platform than a genre,’ the EDM star tells MTV News on our live-stream carpet about the dance movement. On Sunday (February 12), the multiple nominee nabbed the Grammy gold for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for the song “Cinema” in a pre-telecast ceremony. It marks a big achievement for the rising EDM DJ/producer — and an even bigger achievement for the genre, which has shot through to the mainstream in the last year. Before he took home the prize, Skrill chatted with MTV News on our live-stream red carpet, opening up about his current status as EDM’s “It” boy. “You know what? I don’t really think about that too much because I’m with these guys and I’m doing shows and you don’t have much time to reflect when stuff [is] happening so quickly. And at the same time, it’s more, I’m really focused on my label and my music and touring and making great production,” he explained. “We all live in the moment. “I think EDM, like what you were saying before, what I was just thinking about, it’s more of really a platform than a genre because it pulls and inspires and it resonates through all types of genres and all types of energy,” he told MTV News’ James Montgomery. Skrillex is up for four more awards on Sunday, including Best New Artist. In addition to recognizing EDM throughout multiple categories, the show will also include a tribute to the musical movement . “As DJs we’ve been pushing new and interesting music for a long time and now people are paying attention. It’s a sound and an energy,” said A-Trak, Skrillex’s fellow producer and a Grammy nominee. “It is unusual,” Diplo added on the red carpet, in a discussion of the current spotlight put on EDM. “I mean, I think we’ve all been a part of the music scene for a while.
