Kanye West Blames Himself For Album Of The Year Snub

‘That’s my fault for dropping Watch the Throne and Dark Fantasy the same year,’ Yeezy tells fans about coveted Grammy nom. By Rob Markman Kanye West Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/ Getty Images Everyone knows that Kanye West takes his awards very seriously, but those who were excepting a Yeezy meltdown for his Grammy Album of the Year snub will be disappointed. On Thursday during the Chicago stop of ‘Ye and Hov’s Watch the Throne Tour , the hometown MC, who is leading the 2012 nominees with seven Grammy nods , addressed the crowd. ‘Something I figured out earlier today, because you know everybody came to me last night like, ‘Congratulations,’ because you know I’m leading — I have the most Grammy nominations once again, like we always do at this time,” Kanye said, drawing thunderous applause from the United Center crowd. “But, you know, people focus, they say, ‘You ain’t have Album of the Year or Record of the Year,’ ” he continued as the fan cheers quickly turned to disapproving boos. Then the outspoken rap star did the unexpected. Instead of sending shots toward the Grammy committee, Kanye blamed himself: “I figured it out though. That’s my fault for dropping Watch the Throne and Dark Fantasy the same year. I should’ve just spaced it out, just a little bit more.” In November 2010, ‘Ye released his fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, . The platinum LP was both critically acclaimed and a commercial success thanks to surefire singles like the rambunctious “Power,” the reflective sing-along “Runaway” and “All of the Lights,” which is nominated for Song of the Year and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Nine months after MBDTF, in August 2011, the Louis Vuitton Don hooked up with Jay-Z to release their tag-team album Watch the Throne . Both Yeezy LPs are nominated in the Best Rap Album category, but neither is in contention for the coveted Album of the Year Award. Instead Adele, the Foo Fighters, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and Rihanna will duke it out for the golden gramophone. Surprisingly Kanye West isn’t sweating it, though. “Don’t worry because me and Hov are gonna keep on making sh–,” he said to the crowd. Does this mean we can expect a Watch the Throne sequel? Guess we’ll have to wait till next year to see. What do you think of Kanye’s reaction? Should he have spazzed? Tell us in the comments! Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never – The Remixes Tops Billboard Chart

In a week that saw plenty of post-Grammy sales bumps, it’s Bieber who reigns supreme. By James Montgomery Justin Bieber Photo: Mark Von Holden/ WireImage In a week in which the post- Grammy sales boom finally took hold, sending several long-dormant albums rocketing back up the charts, it was the kid who got shut out at the big show who ended up topping the charts. Justin Bieber ‘s Never Say Never – The Remixes debuts at #1 on next week’s Billboard top 200 albums chart, giving the pop star the second chart-topping bow of his young career. The album sold more than 161,000 copies, easily surpassing Mumford & Sons ‘ breakout Sigh No More , which benefited from the group’s Grammy-night performance with Bob Dylan (and the Avett Brothers ), selling nearly 133,000 copies — a 169 percent increase in sales from the previous week — to hold steady at #2. Former chart champ the Now 37 compilation lands at #3, with sales of nearly 95,000 copies, and Lady Antebellum — who not only performed at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards , but took home the awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year — posted a 205 percent sales jump, selling more than 85,000 copies to snag the #4 spot. Grammy winner and performer Bruno Mars ‘ Doo-Wops & Hooligans sold nearly 61,000 copies (a 55 percent burst in sales) to come in at #5, followed by a host of other Grammy beneficiaries: Eminem ‘s Recovery at #6 (nearly 61,000 copies sold), the 2011 Grammy Nominees compilation (#7, nearly 56,000 copies sold), Bieber’s My World, 2.0 (#8, more than 54,000 copies), and Nicki Minaj ‘s Pink Friday (#9, nearly 46,000 copies). Rihanna ‘s Loud rounds out the top 10, with sales of more than 45,000 copies sold. That Grammy bump continues outside the top 10 too, starting with Katy Perry ‘s Teenage Dream, which, thanks to her Grammy performance , jumped 30 percent in sales, moving nearly 42,000 units to land at #11. Surprise Album of the Year winners Arcade Fire ‘s The Suburbs posted a 238 percent sales jump to come in at #12, selling more than 40,000 copies … and moving past the 500,000 mark in total sales as a result. Other winners and performers who leapt up the charts include Florence and the Machine , whose Lungs moved from #28 to #19; Cee Lo Green ‘s The Lady Killer (from #53 to #22); Lady Gaga ‘s The Fame (from #35 to #23); and the Black Keys ‘ Brothers , which posted a 25 percent sales jump to grab the #24 spot. Aside from Bieber’s Never Say Never, other notable Billboard debuts include Bright Eyes ‘ The People’s Key, which opened at #12 with sales of nearly 41,000 copies, Hillsong United ‘s Aftermath (#17, with sales of more than 27,000 copies), Ginuwine ‘s Elgin (#30, with sales of more than 19,000 copies), and PJ Harvey ‘s Let England Shake, which bows at #32 with sales of nearly 18,000. Lil Wayne’s Rebirth Is No Match For Lady Antebellum

Weezy’s latest debuts at #2, Nick Jonas & the Administration enter at #3 on Billboard 200. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne’s Rebirth Photo: Universal Motown What a difference two years make. While Lil Wayne smashed records when his last album, 2008’s Tha Carter III, sold more than 1 million copies and debuted at #1, the frequently delayed, oft-leaked follow-up, Rebirth, came nowhere near that figure. The rock-flavored disc — which was accidentally shipped to 500 Amazon.com customers in December and then widely leaked online — will debut at #2 on the Billboard 200 album charts this week on sales of 176,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. The debut comes one day after Wayne got a three-week delay in his sentencing for federal gun charges due to a dental emergency. That figure was not enough to unseat last week’s #1, country darlings Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now, which will retain the pole position despite losing nearly 60 percent of its first-week business (209,000). Coming in just behind Wayne is the debut from Nick Jonas & the Administration , Who I Am, which sold 82,000 copies. The only other debut in the top 10 is from horror rocker Rob Zombie , whose Hellbilly Deluxe 2 lands at #8 (49,000). The rest of the top 10 features albums that got a nice post-Grammy awards bump, including Lady Gaga ‘s Fame (#4, 79,000, up 17 percent), the 2010 Grammy Nominees compilation (#5, 71,000, up 55 percent), the Black Eyed Peas ‘ The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) (#6, 70,000, up 76 percent), Taylor Swift ‘s Album-of-the-Year-winning Fearless (#7, 53,000, up 58 percent) and Best New Artist winners Zac Brown Band ‘s Foundation (#10, 40,000, up 82 percent). Coming in at #9 is Susan Boyle ‘s I Dreamed a Dream, which has sold nearly 3.5 million copies in just under three months. Other big Grammy winners getting a boost include the night’s biggest trophy wrangler, Beyonc
