The approach is less about what’s trendy or appropriate and more about a star’s own personal style. And that means there are always hits but many times there are misses and then, too, as we’ve learned, there’s the Gaga, who can’t be defined as good, bad or otherwise. The Grammy Effect

No other award show in the music industry holds quite the prestige of the Grammys. Though there is everything from the MTV Awards to the American Music Awards, the Grammys stand out as the Academy Awards of music. The show is not just a showcase of talent but a determining factor in the evolution of an artist’s career. After all, once a musician wins just one, the term “grammy-award winning artist” comes to forever precede his or her name. Like most award shows, the Grammy Awards  is big business, for the producers as well as the nominated guests of honor. But just how much can the award boost the earnings of an artist? With the music industry struggling to reinvent its business model and fewer musicians being able to earn enough revenue from album sales, winning an award is more important than ever. Justin Bieber Has ‘Some Surprises’ In Store For Grammy Performance

‘We got some other performers that are going to be there with me,’ teen star says of Sunday’s event. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Justin Bieber Photo: Brian Phares/MTV News This Sunday is poised to be a big night for Justin Bieber. The teen star will not only find out if he takes home any Grammy Awards (he’s up for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album for My World 2.0 ), he’s also performing at the show. And he’ll be getting a little help from his friends. Bieber will be joined on the Grammy stage by his “Never Say Never” pal, Jaden Smith , as well as his mentor, Usher, who appears on his song “Somebody to Love.” When Bieber stopped by MTV News to chat about his 3-D movie, “Never Say Never,” which opens this weekend, he also teased that his Grammy performance will be different than his performances at shows like the AMAs and VMAs, where he won Best New Artist . “I am going to [perform and] I’m gonna have some surprises there,” he explained. “We got some other performers that are going to be there with me, Jaden and Usher, so I’m really excited about it. Jaden’s cool. He’s gonna kick it. He’s gonna kill it. I’m excited.” After an incredible rise to stardom, Bieber will find out if he has what it takes to add Grammy winner to his already impressive r

Justin Bieber 3D film snares first positive review

TrendPK.com : Weeks before Justin Bieber’s 3D motion picture experience, “Never Say Never,” is due to open in theaters, the film got its first vote of confidence. “They’ll laugh, they’ll cry, they’ll squeal, they’ll smile, and after some 100 minutes of heart-racing, in-your-face 3-D footage, even the most casual of teen fans and the stodgiest of parents will exit the movie theater a complete Justin Bieber convert,” Shirley Halperin writes in The Hollywood Reporter following a screening on the Paramount lot. The timing of the film’s release – Feb. 11 – coincides with several high-profile Bieber cameos. He’ll appear alongside Ozzy Osbourne in a Super Bowl commercial on Sunday, Feb. 6. And the film opens the same week that Bieber appears at the Grammys and has his songs showcased on “Glee.” Can world domination be far behind? Actually, Bieber isn’t preaching a message of domination. Rather, he’s spreading a gospel of love, according to THR. Tthey have a greater purpose: spreading love, be it through a sea of hand-shaped hearts, irresistible pop ditties like ‘Smile,’ ‘Eenie Meenie,’ and ‘Baby,’ or the swoon-worthy ‘One Less Lonely Girl,’” Halperin writes. “The beauty of 3-D is that anyone can feel like they’re the girl plucked from the crowd and invited to watch the show from the front row (team Bieber gifts several fans at every tour stop), but the effects go way beyond just having a good seat, you get to see everything — from behind-the-scenes to above the stage, the dressing room where Bieber, you know, dresses, to the tour bus to his hometown, in Stratford, Ontario, where life as its most famous resident couldn’t get more surreal.” Still, the movie might not be for everyone, Halperin warns. “Bring your earplugs, parents, and expect the shriek volume to hit the red zone with every point of Bieber’s finger — and there are many.” “Never” hits theaters on Feb. 11.

MTV’s New Awards Show Will Honor Digital Music, Media

‘Expect to see something that you wouldn’t typically see,’ MTV rep says. By James Montgomery Photo: MTV When it comes to awards shows, MTV has spent the past three decades breaking the mold. Come spring, they’ll try to invent a new mold altogether. On Wednesday, the network revealed it is planning an entirely new awards show, one aimed at honoring digital music and media. And unlike the long-running Video Music Awards and Movie Awards — which lampoon traditionally stodgy fetes like the Grammys and the Oscars — this time out, there’s no pre-existing blueprint to go up against. This will be an entirely new undertaking. “I think the idea we’re trying to convey is: We have the current heavyweight champions of music and movie awards shows, and we love them — they’re a great place for celebrating music and movies — but we also think something new is going on,” Dermot McCormack, head of digital for MTV Music and Logo Group, told MTV News on Thursday (January 20). “The industry has evolved into a digital medium, and fans have evolved right along with it. So we figured it was time to re-examine how we reward achievement in these new mediums.” McCormack said the still-untitled show will premiere in the spring, and will air live on the Internet, on social media sites and mobile devices — but will not be broadcast. “This is a tent pole born from the digital medium, so the rules of television don’t really apply here,” he said. “We’re a multi-screen company, and everything we do should take advantage of all our screens. This show may air, but it definitely will not be something live from 8 to 10 p.m. on MTV. One of the great opportunities with digital is that we remove constraints. And when we do, we think great creativity will show up.” And while the awards categories are still being determined, McCormack said fans can expect to see their favorite music apps and blogs honored in a way that’s befitting of MTV’s awards-show legacy. “Expect to see something that you wouldn’t typically see,” he said. “The idea here is to create a response to this great renaissance that’s happening, the activity and revolution in the music business. It’s not only about where music is today, but where it’s going too. We want to stake a claim in that while still dipping into our heritage. When the first VMAs happened [in 1984], you had Dan Aykroyd coming out smoking a cigarette. That’s the same spirit we’d like to capture here.” What ideas do you have for MTV’s new digital awards show? Tell us in the comments below!

Exclusive: Eminem To Perform At The Grammys

Other performers for February 13 show will be announced Thursday. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem Photo: Kevin Mazur/EM/WireImage Consider Eminem ‘s comeback complete. The superstar MC will take the stage at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards next month in Los Angeles, MTV News has learned exclusively. The Recording Academy will officially announce Em and other performers on Thursday; Pitchfork reported Wednesday (January 12) that Arcade Fire will also be performing at the awards show. The performance is the latest in a line of accomplishments for Eminem since he released Recovery, which is up for Album of the Year. The Detroit lyricist scored a pair of #1 singles from the album with “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna. Those songs helped Em earn 10 Grammy nominations . It’s quite a turnaround from his last project, Relapse. That album debuted at #1 but received mixed reviews, despite winning Best Rap Album at the 2009 Grammys. With Recovery, however, Em has returned to form. Now, he’s set to take center stage at the prestigious event. Twelve months ago, he joined Drake for the then-upstart’s “Forever” performance. But for this year’s telecast, the multiple Grammy winner will take top billing. He’s already been featured in the show’s promotional campaign . A touching 30-second spot showcases Em’s musical legacy , from the loss of his friend, fellow MC Proof, to his struggles through drug dependency and his rise back to the top of the hip-hop game. There’s no question the veteran MC will be the star of the festivities. In December, when nominations were revealed, the rapper led the pack, besting Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, who received seven and six nominations, respectively. The Grammys air Sunday, February 13, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. What song are you hoping Eminem performs at the Grammys? Let us know in the comments!
