T.I.’s New Single ‘Castle Walls’ Hits The Net

Song’s lyrics describe downside of fame, with vocals by Christina Aguilera. By Jayson Rodriguez T.I. Photo: Brad Barket/Getty Images T.I. has achieved an extraordinary amount of success in his career, including Billboard chart toppers and hit movies . He’s also suffered several setbacks, like his current predicament of being an inmate in federal prison. The mix of highs and lows is nothing new to the talented but troubled MC. In a new track that surfaced online on Monday (November 29) called “Castle Walls” and featuring Christina Aguilera , the rapper reveals that despite his achievements, there’s an undercurrent of darkness shadowing his life. “See with the Phantoms and Ferraris in the driveway/ But you see it came in exchange of a sane man’s sanity,” he raps over the Alex da Kid-produced number. “Your vision jaded by the Grammys on the mantle piece/ Just switch your camera lenses, you will see the agony.” Aguilera provides a moving chorus to the track as she sings, “If I should tumble, if I should fall/ Would anyone hear me, screaming behind these castle walls.” Earlier this month, Alex da Kid (Eminem, B.o.B) told MTV News the track would be T.I.’s next single . “I love it,” he said of the number. “I think it’s amazing. It’s my sound, just kind of an evolution of that. I think it’ll cater to a lot of different people.” The track will be featured on T.I.’s forthcoming album No Mercy , set to arrive December 7. The album was previously slated to be titled King Uncaged, but the Atlanta MC changed the name after he was arrested in Los Angeles last month on drug charges and sentenced to 11 months in prison. Ashton Kutcher Asks: ‘How Does Robert Pattinson Not Win Every Award?’

The ‘Killers’ star is just as dedicated as Twilighters to making sure RPattz dominates the MTV Movie Awards. By Eric Ditzian HOLLYWOOD — Last year, Robert Pattinson won three Golden Popcorn statutes at the MTV Movie Awards . At the 2010 show, he’s up for another three potential wins, including Best Male Performance and Best Kiss . Most avid Twilighters would say that’s pretty darn good work for the 24-year-old actor. Others might argue that such awards-show recognition just ain’t enough respect for the British heartthrob. By “others,” we mean Ashton Kutcher, who made a not entirely convincing (but nonetheless amazing) case to MTV News that Pattinson should never lose a single award — regardless of genre or gender specificity. Ever. “How does Robert Pattinson not win every award ever invented?” he asked us Tuesday night on the “Killers” red carpet, just days before Pattinson and his “Twilight” cohorts descend on the Movie Awards. “How does he not win every award ever?” Kutcher was only getting started. In an extended, dramatic-pause-assisted monologue, the King of Twitter made clear to what extent he’d be willing to go to defend the honor — and the awards-show dignity — of everyone’s favorite smoldering teen vampire. “Like, I almost got up onstage this year at the Grammys when he didn’t win and almost kicked Taylor Swift off,” he said. “Because I’m like, ‘What’s up? Robert Pattinson should have won this.’ “And the Emmys are coming up too,” he continued. “And I might go and just be like, ‘What’s up? Robert Pattinson should have won this.’ And then, at the Oscars, if ‘Precious’ is nominated for something next year again for some reason, I’ll just be like, ‘Robert Pattinson should have won this.’ “Or Ben Affleck,” he added with a deadpan grin. “One or another.” Are you as dedicated to RPattz’s awards-show dominance? Gorillaz To Tour U.S. This Year, Without The Holograms

‘You can’t, at this point, do holograms,’ lead singer Damon Albarn explained. By James Montgomery Photo: MTV News For just about as long as they’ve been a (not real) band, Gorillaz have toyed with the idea of launching a full-blown, hologram-enhanced tour . After all, it seemed like the most logical way of bringing the group to life. The only problem? Well, as you can imagine, lugging all that 3-D equipment around gets to be a tad bit expensive. Oh, and then there’s the fact that, no matter how hard they try, Gorillaz masterminds Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett just can’t seem to get the hologram thing to work the way they want it to. So, while, yes, Gorillaz will be touring the U.S. later this year, if we’ll have them (“We’re coming back, going to play all around America, if they want us, of course,” Albarn smiled), they won’t be bringing the holograms with them. It seems they’ve officially closed that chapter of the band’s history … and they’ve got Madonna, with whom they “performed” at the 48th annual Grammy Awards in 2006 , to thank for that. “You can’t, at this point, do holograms. … This is what happened at the Grammys. We opened the Grammys — on television it looked great — but we had an invisible film pulled across our stage, and you project onto that, and put smoke behind it — it’s a Victorian technology, actually,” Albarn told MTV News. “So Madonna manages to come and sort of gate-crash our idea, as people like Madonna do, because that’s why they’re so deep. … She gate-crashed our idea, so we couldn’t play with any bass or any sound, because it would vibrate [the film] so it was really quiet. “So we open the Grammys, but no one could hear us, in this huge, great arena, and we were crestfallen at that moment. And I’m trying to get Bono to move, because his huge, great Stetson is obscuring my view,” he continued. “And then, our song stops, and she appears on the other side of the stage, with her inflated-ABBA riff, at full volume, and the place goes insane. And at [that] point, I just thought, ‘You know what? Sometimes, just keep it simple.’ ” Which means that fans can expect more performances like their guest-heavy Sunday night set at Coachella , with appearances by the likes of Brit rappers Kano and Bashy, De La Soul and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. There’s no word on just when their U.S. tour will kick off. E-mails to the band’s label, Capitol, were not returned by press time, but with all that hologram business now behind them, Gorillaz can focus on putting on a booming, in-your-face set. Which is all fans really want, anyway. “We want it to be powerful, and for people to feel good about it,” Albarn said. “No pun intended.” Will you check out Gorillaz in concert? By Eric Ditzian Janell Wheeler Photo: FOX And now, the show finally begins. “American Idol” has bid farewell to dudes in bikinis and chicks with whips , to rocker moms and warring groups of singers caught in bad romances . This week brings the start of the semifinals, when the manufactured reality-show drama gives way to 24 singers taking their turn alone on the stage in the hope they’ll live to sing another week on TV. On Tuesday night (February 23), the women kick off this next phase of “Idol” season nine. Who’s sure to be voted through and who might be going home?
