Woody Allen is ‘Raping Europe’ and 6 Other Revelations from Terry Gilliam

Financing is still the main obstacle that stands between Terry Gilliam and his long-gestating Don Quixote project, and he’s got at least one scapegoat to blame for sucking up all the money in Europe: Woody Allen . That’s just one of the amazingly honest, semi-joking truth bombs he dropped on a Vulture reporter while discussing the failure of The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus , the “green” movies — Green Lantern and Green Hornet — the problem with comic book movies these days, and more.

Where Is The Black Green Lantern?

See the article here:

Green Lantern opens in theaters nationwide today,  and while Hollywood hottie Ryan Reynolds anchors the newest DC Comics franchise as Hal Jordan, the burning question on our lips is: “Where the heck is John Stewart?”   Actor Nick Jones Jr. was cast and had a cameo appearance in the film, but sadly his scenes only made it to the cutting room floor.  Hopefully, if the Green Lantern movie makes major bank in ticket sales, we’ll get to see John Stewart in his very own epic adventure on the big screen. RELATED: Angela Bassett Doesn’t Need Super Powers In “Green Lantern” [VIDEO] Until then, The Urban Daily presents our five favorite Green Lantern episodes in the classic “Justice League” animated series.  Voiced by “MADtv” alum Phil LaMarr , this version of Green Lantern was one of the most powerful members of the League, and was usually the last man standing in their countless battles against the bad guys.  Due to Bruce Timm and the wonderful writing of the late Dwayne McDuffie, John Stewart was elevated beyond the token black character–he was smart, complex, and featured in almost every episode throughout the show’s entire run. “In Blackest Night”—John Stewart makes a visit back to the ‘hood, even bumping into one of his old high school teachers.  But his trip down memory lane is cut short when he’s taken into custody by The Manhunters.   Green Lantern must fight for his life when put on trial by an intergalactic tribunal, who accuses him of destroying an alien planet and all its inhabitants. “Starcrossed”—The Justice League suffers the ultimate betrayal from one of their own, when Hawkgirl is revealed to be a spy doing recon for her homeworld of Thanagar.  Green Lantern and Hawkgirl’s relationship, as well as the fate of the world, hang in the balance. “Wake The Dead”—A year has passed since Hawkgirl resigned from the Justice League, and Green Lantern is now involved with new Justice League member (and part time supermodel) Vixen.  Green Lantern and Hawkgirl are reunited when they must team up to defeat super baddie Solomon Grundy. “The Once And Future Thing”—Green Lantern (along with Batman and Wonder Woman) go back in time and into to the future while chasing Kronos.  In the future, he meets Warhawk, a fierce warrior and League member–who just happens to be Green Lantern’s and Hawkgirl’s son. “Shadow of The Hawk”—When a mysterious stranger, Katar Hall, makes the moves on Hawkgirl, Green Lantern has a hard time repressing his green-eyed monster within.  Things soon evolve into a complicated love quadrangle between Green Lantern, Vixen, Katar and Hawkgirl. ‘Green Lantern’ Special-Effects Wiz Took ‘Artistic License’

Ryan Reynolds, director Martin Campbell and designer Neville Page explain creatures’ creation to MTV News. By Kara Warner Ryan Reynolds in “Green Lantern” Photo: Warner Bros. Nowadays, it seems moviegoers don’t see anything that isn’t at least partially CGI-enhanced — especially when talking about summer blockbusters and comic book movies. Not that we’re complaining. A movie like “Green Lantern,” which opened Friday (June 17), wouldn’t be possible without a heavy assist from computer-graphics specialists and visual-effects teams. When MTV News caught up with the film’s star, Ryan Reynolds, director Martin Campbell and creature designer Neville Page at the premiere this week, we asked them about the challenges involved in acting and working with so many non-existing environments. “I had pretty strong visual cues to work with,” Reynolds said. He explained that he was mostly working with actual people, actors who wore green-screen suits and were later replaced or enhanced with CGI in postproduction. Campbell said that although a lot of the time the actors were playing off “tennis balls on C-stands,” they all learned to work from nothing. “You’re sitting in a blue cave for god knows how long, and after a while, it’s fine,” he said. “You sort of adjust to it, you get used to it like anything else, it becomes the norm. Regarding the specifics of the film’s visual and CG-related feats, Page admitted that the alien characters, Tomar-Re and Kilowog (voiced by Geoffrey Rush and Michael Clarke Duncan), proved to be particularly difficult. “As soon as I saw the comic book design of it … I thought, ‘How are we gonna get a chicken guy to work realistically next to Ryan Reynolds and not have people laugh?’ ” Page said of designing Tomar-Re. “Kilowog was a similar character,” he added. “Obviously, we’re mindful — very mindful — of the fanbase and their expectation of what they are hoping to see,” he explained, mentioning details like body-part proportions and skin texture. “But at the same time, you have to take artistic license to bring these things to true, CG, cinematic life,” he said. ‘Green Lantern’ Stars: Don’t Try Superhero Fashion At Home!

At the movie’s Hollywood premiere, Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively and others weigh in on when it’s cool to wear spandex. By Kara Warner Ryan Reynolds at the “Green Lantern” premiere Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images HOLLYWOOD, California — No matter how different the characters, costumes and mythology, there are a lot of similarities among comic book superheroes, especially those of the big-screen variety. The latest entry into the comic book movie annals is this week’s “Green Lantern,” in which star Ryan Reynolds sports a fashion commonly associated with superhero types: spandex. Well, his co-star Blake Lively insists the Green Lantern isn’t wearing a suit of spandex, but rather a suit of “energy.” Still, given the fact that these characters seem so comfortable sporting outfits of the stretchy, pliant variety, we asked the stars and attendees at Wednesday’s “Green Lantern” premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre when they think it’s cool for dudes to wear spandex — outside the superhero realm, of course. “Ooh wow, that’s good,” Ryan Reynolds said of our query. “Ballet. Definitely ballet. That’s in the top five at least.” Mark Strong, who plays the soon-to-be-evil Siestro, suggested that the appropriate time is “on a bicycle. And that’s about it.” “I wear spandex every day,” revealed NBA All-Star Blake Griffin. “So I’d say 24/7. I have red, white, blue, green, orange, purple, navy, pink,” he joked, before correcting himself. “I just wear white and black under my basketball shorts. I don’t really go that far.” Reynolds had a definite idea of when not to wear the fabric: “I don’t think when it’s sexy time. That’s probably not a good idea.” Maybe it depends on what color you wear for said sexy time? “[Maybe] lavender, with little gold flecks?” Reynolds allowed, with a smile. “If people could walk around in suits of energy, that would be cool,” Blake Lively said, taking our question seriously. “Other than that, I don’t think men should wear spandex.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
