Fabolous To Celebrate 10-Year Anniversary With Loso’s Way 2 Release

‘We’re looking to do that around September 13,” Fab says of his forthcoming album. By Rob Markman Fabolous (file) Photo: Jonathan Leibson/ WireImage Time flies when you’re making hits. On September 11, 2001, Brooklyn rapper Fabolous graduated from a slick-tongued mixtape MC to a bona fide platinum rap star with the release of his debut album, Ghetto Fabolous. To celebrate his 10-year run, Fab plans to release his sixth studio album, Loso’s Way 2: The Rise to Power , on September 13. Mr. F-A-B-O revealed his plans to morning show radio jock Vezzy Parmesan of Rhode Island’s Hot 106.3. “That’s coming in September, we’re looking to do that around September 13 actually,” Fab said of Loso’s Way 2 from backstage at Hot 106’s all-star Hot Night concert. “September 11 was when my first album dropped, 10 years ago. That was also the tragic day of 9/11. So my album dropped that same day and we kinda want to do like a 10-year-anniversary sort of feel.” Fab Pitt, whose last album, Loso’s Way, featured collaborations from The Dream, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz and Ryan Leslie, wouldn’t confirm who he will be working with on this album, but he did reveal a short wish list of artists he’d like to contribute in the future. Among those names are Eminem, Nas, Rick Ross and Fergie, but beyond that, Fab kept it tight-lipped. “I’m working with a lot of guys right now. It’s still in the baby stages, so I don’t want to give too much of the info right now, but it’s soon to come.” Dropping the album 10 years after his first effort is symbolic for the rapper. He told Parmesan that the release of his debut remains his top career highlight. “To finally get to a point when you release your first album, it’s like having a baby,” he said. “It’s like having your first baby, even just accepting it was happening at first.” Although Fab’s shining moment was marred by the tragedy of 9/11, he eventually learned to embrace it. “I woke up that day and some planes flew into some buildings. That’s another thing that makes it so monumental to me too, is that you were destined, even [with] what happened, you still prevailed and you’re here today.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Fabolous Related Artists Fabolous

‘Super 8’: Box-Office Sleeper Of The Summer?

After earning $37 million and debuting at #1, J.J. Abrams’ movie is looking like a success story so far. By Eric Ditzian Elle Fanning and Joel Courtney in “Super 8” Photo: Paramount As well as anyone, J.J. Abrams knew the challenges facing “Super 8” this summer. It’s not a sequel or based on an existing property; it doesn’t feature any major stars; its central conceit had to remain largely mysterious, and its release date plopped the flick in a crowded field of superheroes, robots and wizards. “We’re a complete anomaly in a summer of huge films,” the director told the Los Angeles Times, “and we don’t want to be so silent or coy that people don’t care or don’t hear about it.” As the film’s June 10 release date neared, it seemed people might not have heard about “Super 8,” nor cared to check it out if they had: Box-office tracking was said to be weak, with a possible opening weekend as low as $25 million. But as reviews continued to be strong, and Paramount staged over 300 Twitter-sponsored screenings at midnight on the Thursday before release, the tide seemed to be turning. And it did. “Super 8” grossed $37 million domestically. That put the alien-invasion film roughly in line with one alien invasion film based on an original idea and starring lesser-known talent (2009’s “District 9”) but slightly below another (2008’s “Cloverfield”). Yet what separates “Super 8” from these other movies is the talent behind the camera: Abrams in the director’s chair and Steven Spielberg taking on a producer role for a film that is an undeniable homage to films like “E.T.” With those names leading the charge, expectations were high as soon as the project was announced in May 2010. And now opinions among industry experts seem to be split. Is $37 million for “Super 8″ a success or a disappointment — or somewhere in between? ” ‘Super 8’ arrived with neither a whimper nor a bang,” explained Brandon Gray of Box Office Mojo . “[E]ven if ‘Super 8’ beat last-minute expectations, that doesn’t necessarily make it a success. The most important expectations for any movie are the ones that are set when a movie is green-lighted as well as the ones that guide a marketing campaign.” Others, however, emphasize that making any sort of box-office declaration would be premature at this point. “For some films, the opening weekend is just the beginning of the story,” said Phil Contrino, editor of Boxoffice.com . “This is one of them. It should hold up well in the weeks to come, and that will make up for the fact that its opening wasn’t exactly earth shattering.” The fact is, even with marquee talent running the show, films often need A-list talent in front of the camera — and plopping down on Leno’s couch — to goose box-office numbers. Contrino suspects that just one big name could have resulted in a $60 million opening for “Super 8.” Yet it should be noted the film reportedly cost only $50 million — about one third the budget of a typical summer tentpole. ” ‘Super 8’ will turn a profit before most of the other films released this summer, and isn’t that the epitome of success?” said Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. “Yet still it was the #1 film in a crowded marketplace. There is no other way to spin this: Every studio in town would love to have a ‘Super 8’ on their release calendar.” The question now is how the film will do heading into this weekend, when a new superhero flick, “Green Lantern,” arrives. “Cloverfield,” for instance, dropped a staggering 68 percent in its second weekend, despite opening in January. “District 9” held on for a more typical 51 percent drop in August. How will “Super 8” fair? Can it become the sleeper hit of the summer? “It may have a difficult time going up against what looks like it will be the next ‘Iron Man’ in ‘Green Lantern,'” Bock said. “But word of mouth should sustain ‘Super 8’ in the weeks to come, because in a world full of exploitation and in-your-face pop-up ads, audiences will no doubt be charmed by the fact that they’re sitting in a darkened theater without knowing exactly what to expect.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Super 8.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Blake Lively Sabotages Ryan Reynolds

The Green Lantern has a weakness for baked goods. To make sure Ryan Reynolds didn’t steal the spotlight from her in the runup to their movie’s release, costar Blake Lively hit him where it counts. “It was a way to sabotage Ryan,” Lively told the press. “He was working out as much as he was, and I’m the girl. I’m supposed to look better.” The Gossip Girl star , who brushed up on her skills at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris a few months ago, said she loves “to cook everything and anything.” “The most cooking I did was on this film,” she said. “New Orleans was a great place to cook and eat.” Not that Reynolds objects by any means. “[For] most actors, it’s coke and guns,” he said . “For me, it’s baked goods.” Nice to see that the Blake Lively nude photo scandal hasn’t dampened the spirits of the actress or her counterpart. The movie looks fun, too! [Photos: WENN.com, Fame Pictures]

‘Twilight’ Movie Awards Kiss ‘Shocked’ Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively

‘I’d seen it in my head many times as I closed my eyes,’ Reynolds jokes of Pattison-on-Lautner lip-lock. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson kisses Taylor Lautner at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage In 2009, Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock took the stage at the MTV Movie Awards to present the Golden Popcorn for Best Kiss. In what would become an ongoing theme over the next few years, “Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart won the prize. They took the stage to raucous applause and proceeded to tease a reenactment of their onscreen smooch without actually going ahead with the deed. After winning again the next year — and finally puckering up for the crowd — 2011 rolled around and Ryan Reynolds was again picked to hand out the Best Kiss award, this time with “Green Lantern” co-star Blake Lively. Thus both Ryan and Blake had quite a view when, after the Twi-kids once again nabbed the award, Pattinson bounded down from the stage, away from Stewart and into Taylor Lautner’s arms for a seriously unexpected kiss. “I did not know that there would be a ‘Twilight’-on-‘Twilight’ kiss,” Reynolds told us days later when we caught up with him at a “Green Lantern” press event. “We had no idea.” Of course, having witnessed the inaugural “Twilight” Best Kiss win, the actor had been imagining something of the sort for years. “I’d seen it in my head many times as I closed my eyes,” Reynolds added. “But that was quite shocking, actually, that he would just run off the stage like that and attack that poor boy.” Lively’s family, for their part, were equally stunned by the smooch — and the unwelcome attention of MTV’s cameras. “My family was sitting behind them,” Lively explained. “They were like, ‘Ooooh!’ They were hiding. They were so shy.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . REVIEW: Water for Elephants Stars One Very Big Heartthrob, with Wrinkled Skin

Water for Elephants is one of those big, extravagant-looking romances that you might automatically deem “conventional” — except for the fact that almost nobody makes big, extravagant-looking romances anymore. That’s the elephant in the room that the movie’s director, Francis Lawrence, faces head on. Whatever his movie’s flaws may be, he’s alive to the wonder of spectacle, and he still believes in the old-fashioned idea of movie stars: Those with two legs, and especially those with four.
