Latest Green Lantern Stills: Ryan Reynolds Kicks Ass in Kelly Green

I can’t help but thinking these new Green Lantern stills look like poorly greenscreened music videos from precisely 2001-02. Shakira’s “Whenever, Wherever”? Brandy’s “What About Us”? Janet Jackson’s “All for You”? What a terrible time for pop starlets. You had to dance alongside CGI horses on Crayola mountaintops if you wanted a pop hit. Anyway, Ryan Reynolds looks silly here, but whatever! Enjoy.

‘X-Men Origins: Deadpool’ Finds Its Director: Tim Miller

This will be the visual-effects expert’s full-length directing debut. By Kara Warner Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” Photo: Marvel / Fox The highly anticipated (if slightly delayed and problem-plagued) “Deadpool” movie has officially been assigned a director, VFX expert Tim Miller. According to Deadline , 20th Century Fox selected Miller to helm the pic due to his extensive background in visual effects. (Miller worked on “X-Men,” “X2,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and “Night at the Museum”). “X-Men Origins: Deadpool” will be Miller’s first time directing a full-length feature film. Although the casting announcements have not yet been made, Ryan Reynolds, who portrayed the mouthy mercenary in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” is expected to star. He recently told MTV News that he hopes the movie gets into production soon. “Worry not,” Reynolds told MTV News. “I want it to happen. I just feel like when it does happen, it has to be done the exact right way. I’ve been a part of it for way, way too long, and it has to be done extremely well. “There’s a lot I could say about it right now, but there are moving parts that I really want to see to fruition and I want to see them happen, so I don’t want to get into and put the cart before the horse,” he added. “So we’ll see.” However, Reynolds was quick to indicate that the delays aren’t due to any problems with the script. In fact, the screenplay by “Zombieland” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick is, well, perfect. “The script is exactly where I want it to be,” he said. “[The script is], tonally speaking, perfect.” Since Reynolds has said in the past that he’d only do “Deadpool” or zombie cop movie “R.I.P.D.,” this announcement and forward movement by Fox — and the fact that Reynolds’ co-star just dropped out of “R.I.P.D.” — might help nudge the “Green Lantern” star toward officially signing on for “Deadpool.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Blake Lively ‘Thrilled’ To Be Part Of ‘Green Lantern’

‘I’m actually a really big comic book movie geek,’ she tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Blake Lively Photo: Getty Images Actress Blake Lively is perhaps most recognizable from her role as spoiled rich kid Serena Van Der Woodsen on the CW’s steamy teen soap “Gossip Girl.” However, in just a couple of months, Lively will be seen by a whole new audience via her leading-lady role as Carol Ferris alongside Ryan Reynolds in “The Green Lantern.” When MTV News caught up with Lively during a “Green Lantern” event at CinemaCon , we asked if she considers herself a fangirl or whether she would be lining up to see the highly anticipated comic book movie adaptation if she weren’t in it. “I’m actually a really big comic book movie geek,” Lively revealed. “I didn’t read comics ever. I’m not a boy; I don’t know if you can tell,” she joked. “I was saying I never wanted to be an actor, so I would watch these superhero movies and come out and want to crawl up walls or do these karate kicks or fly or whatever it is.” Lively went on to say that she never thought she would be in a comic book movie and that when she found out she landed the part, she was as giddy as a schoolgirl and hoped she’d get to do a lot of stunt work. “For me, I was like a kid when I found out I got this [role]. I was like, ‘What kind of stunts am I going to do?’ I was thrilled to be a part of it,” she said. “I’ve always loved these kinds of movies. I do think, I know everybody says this, but I do think it’s different.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Bertie isn’t the only one with a voice. I’m speaking my album into existence this year. God says, ‘If you ask, you shall receive,’ so I’m asking, and hopefully I’ll receive it sometime soon. I’m sending a pigeon or something, even a text message.” For his debut, The Hard Way Musical, the G.O.O.D. Music artist is already a few songs in. “My album is a lot of storytelling. It’s heartfelt, but at the same time it’s hip-hop to the T,” he said of the collection. ” Royal Flush is more so the different parts of me, but my album is gonna be more the story of me.” Other Heat This Week

Henry Cavill Reveals How He Became Superman

Director Zack Snyder says actor exuded ‘crazy-calm confidence.’ By Eric Ditzian Henry Cavill Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images Less than three weeks after Henry Cavill was tapped to be the latest actor to pull on Superman’s tights in Warner Bros.’ rebooted take on the iconic hero, the 27-year-old actor is stepping into the public eye as the face of the franchise. Cavill graces the upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly , not suited up like the Man of Steel but wearing a faded “S shield” T-shirt underneath a leather jacket. Of course, he did have to don Superman’s duds to win the role. In fact, according to director Zack Snyder, the tights he tried on were a replica of the ones worn by former Superman Christopher Reeve. “If you can put on that suit and pull it off, that’s an awesome achievement,” Snyder said. While Cavill had packed on muscle for Tarsem Singh’s action-fantasy, “Immortals,” he had to shed the weight for his latest gig — a starring role opposite Bruce Willis in “The Cold Light of Day” — and the prospect of trying on Superman’s costume had him feeling more than a little anxious. “All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go, ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance,’ ” Cavill admitted. “The actor inside me was going: ‘You’re not ready! You’re not ready!’ ” Cavill could certainly be excused for his apprehension. The Brit had numerous close calls with major franchises. He was previously attached to a role as Superman, but lost out after McG exited the project and Bryan Singer eventually signed on to direct. Cavill also was reportedly considered to play Batman, James Bond and Green Lantern , but was passed up each time. This time, however, Snyder took one look at Cavill in the Super-suit and knew he could play the Man of Steel. “He walked out, and no one laughed,” the director said. “Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go, ‘Wow.’ OK: This was Superman.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
