Paramore, Green Day Clash For Musical March Madness Championship

Voting is now open as the bands compete for 2011 title game after tough Final Four challenges. By James Montgomery Paramore Photo: Nigel Crane/ Redferns It’s all come down to this: Green Day and Paramore will meet for the 2011 Musical March Madness title, advancing to the championship game after knocking off a pair of tough challengers in the Final Four. Third-seeded Green Day held off a late charge from upset-minded #9 Disturbed, watching a big lead (nearly 8,000 votes) dwindle down to triple digits as Final Four polls closed Sunday at midnight. In a contest that saw more than 230,000 votes cast, Green Day’s final margin of victory was less than 800. Things weren’t nearly as close in our other Final Four matchup, as #5 Paramore dominated heavily favored #3 My Chemical Romance. Hayley Williams and Co. led from nearly the opening tip, and ran away from MCR — who lost the 2010 MMM championship matchup to Coheed and Cambria — late, ultimately cruising to a 20,000-vote win. That sets up our 2011 championship game, which is not only a clash of two battle-tested bands (Green Day knocked off the likes of U2, Blink-182 and Panic! at the Disco in this year’s tourney, while Paramore survived showdowns against foes like No Doubt and Tokio Hotel), but also serves as the culmination of a year-long quest for revenge: Both Green Day and Paramore were upset in the opening round of last year’s MMM and have spent the past 12 months seething about that fact. In short, this one’s been a long time coming. So, why wait to get the action under way? Championship game voting has begun over on the Newsroom blog! Polls will remain open until Monday (April 4) at midnight ET. And since it’s the championship game, we want to keep things suspenseful, which means results — and our 2011 MMM champion — won’t be revealed until Tuesday on MTVNews.com. MTV’s Musical March Madness has reached our championship game! It’s Green Day versus Paramore, and the winner is determined by your votes. Rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM. Kids’ Choice Awards 2011: The Show And Winners List

Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus awarded on slime-filled Nickelodeon night. By Aly Semigran Russell Brand and Rico Rodriguez get slimed onstage during Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images For 23 years, Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards has been an event in which celebrities can truly let loose. After all, it’s hard to have an ego when you’re getting covered in green slime or being inducted into the Arm Fart Hall of Fame (we’re looking at you, Josh Duhamel). Nick’s 2011 awards show, which aired lived on the network Saturday from Los Angeles, kept with its tradition of stars finding themselves in some truly outrageous situations. Host Jack Black , who was at the helm for the third time (he last helped hand out those coveted orange kaleidoscope blimps in 2008), kicked things off with an over-the-top musical number. The funnyman, wearing a black leather jumpsuit with flames — the first of many quirky wardrobe changes — was joined by a group of dancers to perform his own rendition of the Black Eyed Peas’ hit “I Gotta Feelin’.” Black then introduced the group, as the “Jack Black Eyed Peas,” and joined them onstage for “The Time (Dirty Bit).” BEP, who later won the award for Best Music Group, then sang their next single, “Just Can’t Get Enough.” The first award of the evening was given out to Johnny Depp, who won Favorite Movie Actor for his performance in “Alice in Wonderland.” Depp, who emerged from backstage, told the kiddie crowd and voters it was “truly a pleasure to receive this award that comes from you guys. I appreciate it.” After apologizing for beating Black in the category, Depp told Nick viewers, “You guys are the future; take good care of us.” The actor then proceeded to get in on the fun, sliming the group of young fans who stood at the foot of the stage. Depp’s stunt led to one of the evening’s most memorable — and by far, funniest — moments when “Arthur” actor Russell Brand and “Modern Family” star Rico Rodriguez appeared onstage soon after to present the award for Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie (the blimp eventually went to Eddie Murphy, who got the crowd to sing him “Happy Birthday,” for his role in “Shrek Forever After”). Before Brand and Rodriguez could even begin their banter at the podium, the freshly slimed youngsters began throwing the green, gooey mess at the two stars. In response to the mayhem, Brand declared, “I’m never having children.” Brand continued, as he guarded Rodriguez from the kiddie coup, “I am English! I am your leader! You must not do this, I am royalty! You are all going to juvenile hall. You children are going to prison. You are bad children!” Brand, who is voicing a character in the animated feature “Hop,” cried that the moment was not in the script, then joked, “Johnny, I wished you’d drowned them.” They weren’t the only stars to get slimed during the broadcast. Heidi Klum, who almost took a spill thanks to her sky-high heels, got hit, as did Jason Segel, who received a slime slushie courtesy of Jane Lynch. Even Snoop Doog — who joined pop-rock group and Nick stars Big Time Rush for their song “Boyfriend” — got doused in the green stuff. As Willow Smith performed her hits “21st Century Girl” and “Whip My Hair,” the 10-year-old was cheered on by her dad, Will Smith, and brother, Jaden Smith, who were in the audience. The final big award of the evening went to Miley Cyrus , who won for Favorite Movie Actress for “The Last Song.” The former “Hannah Montana” star attempted to put gossip to rest during her acceptance speech as she thanked her family for supporting her career. Cyrus will no doubt get fans wondering about the status of her relationship with “Last Song” co-star and on-again, off-again beau Liam Hemsworth , whom she thanked for “helping me make movie magic” in the 2010 drama. The Big Help Award, which was presented by Rosario Dawson, went to singer/actor Justin Timberlake for his devotion to charities, particularly the work he does with Shriners Hospital for Children. In between cracking jokes about burping and getting the crowd to cheer if they had ever helped anyone, Timberlake took the time to tell his young fans, “Your heart is the most beautiful part, so don’t forget to use it.” In addition to telling kids they can do their part to help, even with major issues such as the crisis in Japan, the star said something bound to make any adult watching elated: “Listen to your parents!” Finally, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian hit the stage to help give away the last award of the night for Favorite TV Show, which went to the kid-friendly Nickelodeon hit “iCarly.” Black kept a high energy throughout the show, including some interactions with his “Kung Fu Panda 2” character, Po, — one of which featured a cameo from Britney Spears in a pre-recorded segment. He ended the evening with a slime battle between himself and Jim Carrey, who made a surprise finale appearance. Other winners included: Favorite Female Singer Katy Perry Favorite Male Singer Justin Bieber Favorite Song “Baby” – Justin Bieber Favorite Movie “The Karate Kid” Favorite Animated Movie “Despicable Me” Favorite Reality Show “American Idol” Favorite TV Actress Selena Gomez Favorite TV Actor Dylan Sprouse Favorite Book “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series Favorite Cartoon “Spongebob Square Pants” Favorite Male Athlete Shaquille O’Neal Favorite Female Athlete Lindsey Vonn Favorite Video Game “Just Dance 2” What was your favorite moment at the 2011 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards? Blake Lively ‘Thrilled’ To Be Part Of ‘Green Lantern’

‘I’m actually a really big comic book movie geek,’ she tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Blake Lively Photo: Getty Images Actress Blake Lively is perhaps most recognizable from her role as spoiled rich kid Serena Van Der Woodsen on the CW’s steamy teen soap “Gossip Girl.” However, in just a couple of months, Lively will be seen by a whole new audience via her leading-lady role as Carol Ferris alongside Ryan Reynolds in “The Green Lantern.” When MTV News caught up with Lively during a “Green Lantern” event at CinemaCon , we asked if she considers herself a fangirl or whether she would be lining up to see the highly anticipated comic book movie adaptation if she weren’t in it. “I’m actually a really big comic book movie geek,” Lively revealed. “I didn’t read comics ever. I’m not a boy; I don’t know if you can tell,” she joked. “I was saying I never wanted to be an actor, so I would watch these superhero movies and come out and want to crawl up walls or do these karate kicks or fly or whatever it is.” Lively went on to say that she never thought she would be in a comic book movie and that when she found out she landed the part, she was as giddy as a schoolgirl and hoped she’d get to do a lot of stunt work. “For me, I was like a kid when I found out I got this [role]. I was like, ‘What kind of stunts am I going to do?’ I was thrilled to be a part of it,” she said. “I’ve always loved these kinds of movies. I do think, I know everybody says this, but I do think it’s different.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Paramore, Disturbed Reach Final Four Of March Madness

One of these four bands will win the 2011 MMM title; vote now in the Newsroom blog! By James Montgomery My Chemical Romance’s Mikey Way and Gerard Way Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage Three weeks ago, 64 bands embarked on the voyage that is MTV’s Musical March Madness . Now, after millions of votes and nearly as many grueling matchups, only four remain. My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Paramore and Disturbed each punched their ticket for the Final Four late Thursday night, and one of them will hoist the MMM trophy next week. Check out our MMM Bracket right here! It wasn’t easy for any of them. Much like the Sweet 16, voting in the Elite 8 broke records and went down to the wire. We wouldn’t expect anything less, not when the bands still competing were this big, and the stakes this high. And they’re about to get even higher. Because voting in our Final Four matchups — #9 Disturbed vs. #3 Green Day and #5 Paramore vs. #3 My Chemical Romance — is now under way over on the Newsroom blog, and it’ll be up to you to determine the two bands that’ll go head-to-head for the MMM championship. Final Four voting has begun on the Newsroom blog! While you consider just whom you’ll be voting for — if you haven’t made your mind up already — let’s take a look back at each band’s journey to the Final Four. Disturbed The lowest-seeded band still standing, Disturbed entered MMM as a #9, but quickly served notice that they were a force to be reckoned with, knocking off #8 the Dave Matthews Band in the opening round, then shocking the world by slipping by the Midwest’s top seed, the Foo Fighters , to reach the Sweet 16. Then, they handled Patrick Stump and, perhaps inspired by frontman David Draiman’s now legendary “time to make a statement” speech, took down defending MMM champs Coheed and Cambria in an air-tight battle. With more than 105,000 votes cast, Disturbed outdistanced Coheed by less than 500 to win the Midwest region and earn a spot in the Final Four. Green Day Last year, Green Day were sent packing in the opening round of the tournament, an exit that left them with a bitter taste in their mouths and a sizeble chip on their shoulders. So, in their 2011 march to the Final Four, they took no prisoners, absolutely dominating Adam Lambert in the first round, then going toe-to-toe with a pair of their fellow rock heavyweights — U2 and Blink-182 — and barely breaking a sweat. Their toughest challenge came in the Elite 8 against, ironically enough, Panic! at the Disco, the very band that sent them packing last year. Green Day got revenge , withstanding a late surge from the Panic! guys to take the West region title and head to the Final Four. Paramore Nearly two years ago, we wrote that Paramore were poised “to become the kings and queen of the South.” Little did we know how right we’d be; after a string of impressive victories, Hayley Williams and the guys are, in fact, the rulers of the region, and they’ve certainly earned their crowns. No band faced a stiffer series of matchups throughout the tourney — Paramore drew No Doubt in the opening round and Kings of Leon in the second — and that was before they took on tournament vets Tokio Hotel in the Elite 8. Each time, they rose to the challenge, taking the South region title and, in the process, may very well have become the favorites to win it all. My Chemical Romance It was heartbreak city for MCR last year, as they rode a wave of fervent fan support all the way to the MMM championship game, only to be crushed by Coheed. They’re the only band to climb the mountain once again, and they’ve done it with a frightening level of proficiency. Because, to this point, My Chemical Romance have yet to be really tested, rolling #14 Panda Bear in round one, #11 Rage Against the Machine in round two and #2 Radiohead in the Sweet 16 . They ended 16th-seeded Sum 41’s dream run in the Elite 8 , wrapping up the East title and barely breaking a sweat. In the Final Four, they’ll face off against Paramore, which might very well be the de facto 2011 championship game. MTV’s Musical March Madness has reached the Final Four. All winners are determined by your votes, so, if your favorite act is still standing, it’s up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM — and you’d better; the MMM trophy is within reach!
