Not long ago, my sister and I were having a conversation about our hair. Bred by a Nigerian father and a mother with a full head of hair, she and I were blessed–and cursed–with a thick head of hair. That young 4B meets and morphs with 4C tight strands. We were conversing about what products work for our head. We’re both natural, my sis usually flat irons her hair or leaves it in curls, me myself, I keep mine in a fro. And we were trading hair products and advice, and through all the talks of glossers, conditioners, curl creams and broken combs, we laughed at the fact that we, like most black women, have clear drawers full of hair products from all the styles of hair we’ve worn. Things we tried that failed, or things we loved that we no longer have use for. (I sold her a Pink Oil glosser spray for $3, cause who needs a greasy fro?) But we do it all to finally figure out what works for our hair. Too bad you have to waste so much money. ( Continue reading… )
Justin Bieber’s New Haircut 2011 : Photos Justin Bieber got a NEW haircut. Justin shocked fans by getting a trim and opting for a more mature look. Justin’s new haircut is signature bowl cut and it’s a much cooler and spiky look. Justin Bieber’s signature hair that inspired Halloween costumes and a recent Glee episode, has changed for the better. Bieber cut his hair on the set of a Rascal Flatts music video. Justin Bieber tweeted on tweeter earlier to confirm the cut. He tweeted, “yeah so it’s true…i got a lil haircut…i like it…and we are giving all the hair cut to CHARITY to auction. Details coming soon.” The singer’s hairstylist, Vanessa Price, also tweeted, “Ladies and gentlemen…@justinbieber 2011!!” with a picture of the new cut. Justin Bieber has explained over hair cut,”I just wanted a kind of a change, I didn’t want to cut it all off, but I had had it for 3 1/2 years, I had just gotten sick of it, it was in my eyes, I didn’t want it in my face, I just wanted to change it up.”
‘We knew it was going to be a big deal,’ Vanessa Price tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Neil Mockford/ Getty Images When Justin Bieber isn’t making headlines about his dates with Selena Gomez , he’s making hair-related news. This month alone his hairdo led to some healthy debate and then, earlier this week, it was learned that a lock of Bieber’s famous hair sold at auction for $40,668 (the proceeds went to charity). When MTV News caught up with Bieber’s hairstylist, Vanessa Price, she admitted that she was surprised the hair sold for that much money, but grateful that someone had the funds to help the Gentle Barn Foundation, an animal rescue organization in California. “It’s great and it’s for charity and how great is it that we have something that’s disposable that’s worth something,” she said. “It’s a lot of money, but like I said, we’re just so lucky that that’s happened.” The star’s shorn locks might end up doing a lot of good, but fans couldn’t initially get over Bieber’s decision to lop off those famous swooping bangs. “We knew it was going to be a big deal,” Price explained. “We knew it was going to shock fans, but we also knew it was going to be a change in terms of growing up. I think that’s something that people adjust to. “We’d been talking about it for a while and shared some ideas, but literally the day off he was adamant about the haircut. He amped himself up for it,” Price continued, before describing his momentary hesitation. “The minute we started cutting, he was like, ‘Wait, wait, wait.’ He loves it. He’s enjoying it.” Girls certainly have always been drawn to Bieber because of that signature ‘do (which she calls the 1.0), but Price says that his camp quickly got over any PR doubts that arose when the idea of the haircut was brought to them. “I mean, I’m not gonna say that everyone was 100 percent onboard,” she revealed. “But they trusted in Justin’s style and my abilities and they kind of held their breath.” These days, Bieber has readjusted his styling techniques for the shorter look. “With his hair before he didn’t require any product. It was super-easy and now that it was cut shorter and choppier, he wanted to be able to experiment,” she explained. “I’m not around all the time, but I definitely groomed him into learning how to do his own hair. “I don’t know if it’s more work but I told him it’s the ‘we don’t care haircut, just do it haircut,’ ” she continued. “The 1.0 version, it was cut a certain direction, it was cut to style. He’s loving it right now and he’s liking experimenting, so I think we’ll just see that it’s a natural evolution for any young adult.” Price says she’s only had positive feedback from his dedicated legion of Beliebers, much to her relief. “The only things I’ve heard were positive, so that makes me really happy because the fans were taken into consideration,” she said. “They’re a huge part. Without them, we wouldn’t be here. Since that haircut I have a fan club now. It’s all positive.” Related Photos Justin Bieber’s Famous Former Hair Related Artists Justin Bieber

Following her recent release from prison , where she served three years on aggravated assault charges, Bossip spoke to Da Brat about life behind bars, her newfound freedom and what the future holds. Bossip: Who held you down while you were locked up? Da Brat: All my family, all my friends. My mother — of course my sister. JD wrote me. Despite what people had to say about my brother JD , he just could not see me in that light and I understand that. Some people don’t want to see their people locked down, so I’m not mad at him at all. I love him and I know he loves me despite whatever negative things other people are saying. Mariah [Carey] and Nick {Cannon} came… Kat Williams came… my cousin Stacy came. Mister and Jamel and Ralph came. Everybody came and they didn’t come just once. Somebody was there every week. Sometimes I was like look i don’t want to come up there I’m tired and I want to rest this weekend but they were like ‘No you’re getting up!’ and I had to sit in visitation with all those people. I had mad love and I’m grateful. I didn’t realize how many people really loved me still. I got like 20-30 pieces of mail a day from fans. I’m grateful for that because some people in there didn’t have nobody. Bossip: How does it feel to be out? Da Brat: I’m blessed to be out. I’m not sleeping on a mattress that’s two inches thick, I don’t got to be worried about what they got to eat. I can eat whatever I want to eat. They didn’t have no vegetables. I didn’t eat none of the stuff they had at chow except when they had “real chicken” — you know chicken on the bone. I ate mostly from the store. Mostly tuna. The basic meal is ramen noodles, but if you eat that sh*t you will get fat as hell. I was eating those for a minute and then I was like “ohhh” I had to back up off of it. What were some of the challenges inside? Some of the officers were haters of course. When you come in they pre-judge you. They think “Oh you some rapper, you think you hard and you think you this and you gonna come in wildin’ out” but it wasn’t like that. I had to learn to hold my peace, cuz you know when someone is screaming in your face you want to be like, “Who the f*ck is you talking to?” especially when it’s someone younger than you. Once the officers got to know me everybody was like “Ah you’re mad cool, you’re nothing like what you thought you were.” I’m not a problem causing person it’s just there was a situation where it made me react the way that I reacted. Everybody makes mistakes and I can’t wait until I can tell my side of the story. I can’t right now because there’s a suit still going on. It didn’t happen like people think it happened and when this is all over, don’t worry, when it’s all over and everybody is straight, I can’t wait to tell my side of the story. Because I did not just do something vicious. I’m not trying to go back even though I was a boss b*tch in there. I had everything I needed. Everything was straight, but I’m not trying to go back. I’m not trying to glorify it because it was not no place you want to go to. We just knew you had them in there trying to braid your hair. Man… They was fighting over who got to braid my hair. I had to be like ‘Okay you can braid it this week and you can braid it next week.’ It was all good really. I had no issues whatsoever. I had to cuss a couple of people out because you know if you come across as too nice people are going to try and take advantage. A couple people tried to test, but once I got in that a*s like “Eh-eh it ain’t happening, don’t even try it.” You gotta let them know and once I did that nobody tried me since.”
Singer tries her hand at modeling in Paris, also previewing the song ‘Government Hooker.’ By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga at the Thierry Mugler Paris Women’s Fashion Week show Photo: Francois Guillot/ Getty Images Before Wednesday’s (March 2) Mugler fashion show in Paris even kicked off, fans were treated to some behind-the-scenes action as models and stylists scrambled to finalize the looks for Nicola Formichetti’s debut women’s-wear collection for the line. Perhaps the most famous model backstage? That would be Lady Gaga . Mugler was the perfect line for Gaga’s catwalk debut — not just because creative director Formichetti is her stylist, but also because its gothy, latexy and glamorous aesthetic perfectly fits Gaga’s over-the-top style. When the show did eventually kick off, Paris’ most fashionable, including Vogue editor Anna Wintour, filled the seats to see what Formichetti had up his sleeve. This season, the brand showed models styled with sleek ponytails and variations on the cat eye. The clothes had lots of leather, sheer fabrics and plastic-like garments that were equally futuristic and sophisticated, fitting perfectly to the model’s bodies. Shoulders were an emphasis of the ensembles, while pencil skirts and wide-legged pants also ruled. Blacks, Army greens and dark neutrals flooded the line, which also included wintery whites, leopard prints and cobalt blues. Photos: Lady Gaga’s walk down the Paris runway. Gaga hit the stage early in the show in her Mugler finest. For her initial appearance, she wore a version of a beret, two flowing pigtails, a dazzling diamond necklace, a sheer black top with a bra, a leather skirt and towering boots. Gaga posed and smoked a cigarette onstage as models, including Zombie Boy, tried to act like the superstar wasn’t onstage with them. As she walked off, cheers could be heard from the audience. Gaga re-emerged for the close of the show in a flowing, white skirt with white bustier and super-high platforms. She completed the look with a white hat and sheer scarf. (Always self-aware, Gaga was heard telling handlers backstage before she hit the runway, “If I vomit on the stage, it would be good press.” She also was spotted practicing her fiercest strut.) As “Born This Way” played out, the models took their final walks. Gaga hugged Formichetti as the designer came out for his bow. Backstage, as the live-stream cameras still rolled, Gaga took photos and got flowers. In addition to playing “BTW” and “Scheiße,” Gaga debuted “Government Hooker,” a trance-y dance track about all things sexy in which she recites lines like “Put your hands on me.” Did you check out Lady Gaga’s modeling debut? Proceeds will benefit animal-rights group the Gentle Barn Foundation. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Michael Loccisano/ Getty Images Last week, shortly after the haircut heard ’round the world , Justin Bieber gave a lock of his famous hair to Ellen DeGeneres . The talk-show host graciously took the gift and promised to auction if off and give all the proceeds to charity. In addition to the lock of hair, Bieber also signed a plastic box in which the hair would be kept. On Wednesday (March 2), 98 bids later , the Bieber memorabilia had sold for $40,668. All the proceeds from the hair will go to the Gentle Barn Foundation , a California-based animal-rights organization. When Bieber appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to give the talk-show host the hair, he reassured her that it was, in fact, his. “Yes, it’s really my hair, but there’s a perk: I wanted to do something good. I’m giving pieces of it to different people,” he explained during the February 23 appearance. “The thing is, we’re doing something special. We want you to donate it to whatever charity you want.” He also joked about what inspired him to cut off his signature locks. “I was inspired by yours,” Bieber laughed. “Yeah [people were freaking out], but I was like, ‘I don’t really care.’ ” Perez Hilton was also one of the lucky hair recipients. On February 22, the blogger wrote, “Not only did Justin Bieber get a haircut, but the teen phenom tells us that he is going to be divvying up his shorn locks to help raise money for different charities. And, he’s giving Perez some of his hair to auction off! We’re working it all out now, and we can’t wait to tell you what good we hope to do with Bieber’s hair!” What do you think of the final price for Justin’s hair? Let us know in the comments! “Never be predictable,” she says. “Mix it up. Surprise him. Change your hair. Be the woman he knows with a little bit of a twist.” But the most important ingredient is confidence, the singer, 29, says. “You can be beautiful but if you#39;re not secure in yourself,” she says, “you don#39;t come across as s-exy.” How does Beyonce keep hubby Jay-Z enticed? She makes herself feel s-exy first. “Put on good music and something that makes you feel great,” the singer tells the U.K. edition of Cosmo
“Hype Williams came up with this Bo Derek braids look for the music video and I loved it!” wrote the 30-year-old star of the director’s hair inspiration. “It took about four hours to do, and believe it or not I fell asleep! I wish I could have worn it longer.” We don’t know what Kim Kardashian will sound like when her debut single drops, but at least we know she’ll look gorgeous in the song’s video. On her blog Tuesday, the reality-star-cum-singer revealed photos straight from her video shoot
