Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: Justin Bieber Haircut Huge News Story

Justin Bieber got his haricut, most of the free world knows that by now. Some of his fans don’t like it and he even lost followers on Twitter, which most of the free world knows, too. And the media has done umpteen stories on it, which most of the free world knew would happen. He went on ‘The Ellen Degeneres Show’ on Wed. Feb. 23 2011 to talk about it but the interview didn’t contain much that was news. Simply going to Google and writing ‘Justin Bieber haircut’ and clicking on ‘News’ brings up countless stories on the cutting of his hair. Even the high-brow ‘Globe and Mail’ in Canada did a story on it, the headline declaring Justin Bieber cuts his famous hair: Teens mourn around the world . Justin Bieber Haircut Gets Media Attention All Over World Mr. Bieber getting a haircut truly is getting attention over many parts of the world. The Times of India pointed out that the charity-conscious teenager is donating the chopped-off hair to be auctioned off for charity – he gave a box of it to Dengeneres to do just that – and quoted Beiber’s twitter about it Monday, the day he got it cut: “Yeah so it’s true… I got a little haircut… I like it,” Bieber had twittered his fans. “And we are giving all the hair cut to CHARITY to auction. Details coming soon.” Some media online sites decided that a ‘poll’ of fans would be a good idea, the L.A. Times thought so and so did MTVNews. In fact MTV had numerous stories on Bieber’s haircut, with headlines like Justin Bieber’s Haircut Recalls Joe Jonas’ Brush with Scissors , Has Justin Bieber Blown His Hair Dry For The Last Time? and Justin Bieber’s Haircut: Fans Weight In! . All three written by experienced reporter, Jocelyn Vena. Bieber Has Less Hair, More Youtube Views Canadians have a reputation for not liking the limelight but Bieber seems to. He is everywhere in the media and the haircut has only made him more visible. So why? Well, why not? He turns 17 on March 1 2011 and might have been looking to find a way to mark new found maturity. He told Degeneres that he wasn’t concerned about how anyone would react and that he figures fans who don’t like it will get over it. He likely knew the storm of media attention that would follow the cutting of his hair. And it really does seem as if everyone did a story: The New York Times, Reuters, The Guardian, TMZ, The Toronto Sun, the Hollywood Reporter, People Magazine, The Huffington Post, USA Today, The San Francisco Chronicle, SodaHead News (?) and yes, even CNN. Whoopi Goldberg, Suite 101 and Justin Bieber’s Haircut That’s just a tip of the iceberg, or perhaps a lock of the hair, for there are many, many more (even Whoopi Goldberg weighed in – she doesn’t like it). And what about us? Suite 101? Did we do a story on Justin Bieber’s haircut? Darn right we did!

Justin Bieber’s Haircut: Fans Weigh In!

While many Beliebers are gushing over his ‘sexy,’ ‘older’ cut, others tell MTV News they miss his signature ‘swoop.’ By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber gets his hair cut Photo: Paramount This week Justin Bieber made headlines thanks to a new haircut. The Biebs had his famous swooping bangs cut into a shorter, cropped look, and he told talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres he doesn’t “really care” what people have to say about his ‘do. But his fans have been weighing in on the new hairstyle anyway, and many of them approve of the haircut. “I really like it and it actually makes him look older!!!! And for all u down there hating on Bieber well if it was Angelina Jolie I’m sure you’d have something to say so don’t hate ’cause he’s sexy and he ain’t even legal yet,” Amanda wrote on MTV.com. Lilia added, “AAh, he looks better with the new hair! Suits him!” Beliebers have been debating the star’s latest look since he debuted it earlier this week. Coote noted on our site that Bieber is much more than a head of hair. “I think he [looks] sexy … i don’t love him for his hair… i love him because he is sweet, cute and perfect,” Coote wrote. MTV News also took to the streets of New York City to see whether people preferred the “Never Say Never” star’s old look or the new one. “I like it, I think it looks good on him,” Catherine said of Bieber’s longtime haircut. She added about the brand-new cut: “I like it better than the other one, but I think that a lot of his fans liked the [old] one. … Everyone loves him for his hair and now he doesn’t have it anymore.” Meanwhile, Tiffany loved the original but was blown away by the new version. “I think it’s very Bieberish, I like that long swoop. It definitely works for him,” Tiffany said before we showed her the updated look. “Oh my god! It’s such a transformation! I just love it! He looks so much older!” “It’s just beautiful,” Christina explained of the old ‘do. “I liked him with his longer hair better. That’s just who he was discovered as.” “He looks a little geeky,” Sofia said of his famous original hairdo. “It’s much better,” she said of the cropped cut. “He doesn’t look like my brother anymore. He looks five years older. He’s so cute.” Which do you prefer: Bieber’s long locks or his cropped cut? Tell us in the comments! Justin Bieber ‘Doesn’t Really Care’ What People Think Of His Haircut

‘I was inspired by yours,’ Bieber tells Ellen DeGeneres of his new hairstyle. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber appears on “Ellen” on Wednesday Photo: ABC Justin Bieber made headlines on Tuesday when it was revealed he had cut his hair , opting for a shorter, cropped version of his famous swooping hairstyle. The star sat down with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday’s show to talk about the new look, and even had a special treat for the comedienne. “I was inspired by yours,” Bieber joked about what motivated the change, adding that he knew people would protest the new look . “Yeah [people were freaking out], but I was like, ‘I don’t really care.’ ” Bieber then preceded to hand a lock of his famous sandy-colored hair to the star, with one major caveat. “Yes, it’s really my hair, but there’s a perk. I wanted to do something good. I’m giving pieces of it to different people,” he explained. “The thing is, we’re doing something special. We want you to donate it to whatever charity you want.” DeGeneres agreed, also requesting that the star sign something to auction off with it. She announced that she’d be giving the money raised in the auction on her website to the California animal-rescue center the Gentle Barn. DeGeneres tried to cut Bieber’s hair last May when the teen star stopped by her show. Holding up scissors, she said she wanted to cut “just a little” bit of his famous hair. He declined, but did share his secret for perfect hair. “Like five minutes,” Bieber explained. “Like seriously. … I get out of the shower, I blow-dry it and it’s done in five minutes. I just shake [my head].” Bieber is out promoting his 3-D movie “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which is being re-released on Friday with additional footage. President Obama’s ‘Race To The Top Commencement Challenge’ Deadline Extended

Students can continue to nominate their schools until March 11. By MTV News staff President Barack Obama Photo: Comedy Central In partnership with MTV’s parent company Viacom and the Get Schooled Foundation , the White House is continuing an annual tradition by hosting the 2011 “Race to the Top Commencement Challenge,” a competition among the nation’s public high schools that aims to find the school that best prepares its students for college and beyond. However, despite the race’s previously announced rules, the competition has extended its deadline to March 11, giving students two more weeks to enter their schools in the competition and win the coveted graduation-day visit from President Obama himself. President Obama shared his excitement over the challenge in a statement that read: “I’m looking for a school that understands the number-one priority is making sure that our kids are learning what they need to succeed in this 21st-century economy.” Students can now continue to nominate their schools until March 11 by submitting an application through the White House website . Once entered, the White House and Department of Education will come together to select six finalists, and, along with Viacom’s Get Schooled Foundation, will work with those six schools to create short videos that will be featured on WhiteHouse.gov and voted on by the public. The top three vote-getters will then be submitted to President Obama, who will select a winner. “We are excited to partner with the White House again on this important initiative — one that takes a unique approach to getting our youth excited about education,” Carl Folta, Viacom’s executive vice president of corporate communications, said in a statement. “This campaign does two very important things: It leverages Viacom’s compelling entertainment brands to make education appealing and tangible, and it shines a spotlight on a national priority that is the core of our nation’s future success.” Last year, Michigan’s Kalamazoo Central High School beat out more than 1,000 schools to win the inaugural Race to the Top challenge and was rewarded with a surprise appearance by President Obama , who then delivered the commencement speech for graduating seniors. The initial competition was such a success, in fact, that the White House decided to bring it back in 2011, with President Obama personally challenging schools to “share effective strategies on how they are preparing their students to win the future and achieve the goal of having the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020.” To enter, head to WhiteHouse.gov and tell President Obama how your school is best preparing students for the future. ‘Never Say Never’ Director Wanted To Film Justin Bieber Haircut

‘I would have brought a 3-D camera there,’ Jon Chu tells MTV News of missing out on teen star’s historic barber trip. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Justin Bieber gets his hair cut Photo: TMZ There are few celebrities these days that can set the news wires and Internets on fire by engaging in basic, everyday tasks. Lady Gaga, Robert Pattinson, Kim Kardashian and, of course, Justin Bieber, are among the few whose every move is cause for Twitter trends and celebrations. Case in point, Bieber’s haircut . A photo of the 16-year-old’s newly shorn locks appeared on TMZ on Monday, along with news that the clippings will be given to charity to raise money for various causes, including animal rights. Naturally, Bieber’s famously fluffy hair swoop has been the subject of innumerable news stories and tweets, so when MTV News checked in with his “Never Say Never” director Jon Chu on Tuesday (February 22), we had to bring up the very popular subject of Biebs’ new haircut. Chu’s only complaint was that Bieber didn’t let him know about the momentous occasion. “I would have brought a 3-D camera there,” said Chu, who recently announced the release of a special “Director’s Fan Cut” of the film . “I would have shot it for [‘Never Say Never’] 3.0.” Chu went on to say that he won’t miss the shaggy flip and heartily approves of Bieber’s shorter ‘do. “Two thumbs-up for the haircut, for sure. He’s wanted it for a long time,” Chu told us. “I’m just happy for him because he’s been holding on. He’s like, ‘I need to get the haircut, I want to get rid of it!’ But he has his hair flip which he can’t get rid of, but now it’s R.I.P. hair flip.” We then pointed out that “R.I.P. hair flip” sounded like a perfect Bieber-related Twitter trending topic, and Chu informed us that we were way behind. “It is a Twitter trending topic!” he said with a chuckle. “At least it was yesterday, last night.” What do you think of Justin Bieber’s new hair?
