Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton Nab CMA Awards Nominations

By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: Hope For Haiti Now/ Getty It really wouldn’t be a country music awards show of any kind if Taylor Swift didn’t nab a slew of nominations. On Tuesday (September 6), the CMA released their list of nominees for this year, and, of course, Swift got a whole bunch, along with Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley and “The Voice” judge Blake Shelton. That elite four received five nominations each and will face off against one another, and Keith Urban, in the night’s big category for Entertainer of the Year. While Urban didn’t make the Album of the Year cut, the other four did with Shelton getting props for All About Tonight, Aldean for My Kinda Party, Swift for Speak Now, Paisley for This Is Country Music, as well as the Zac Brown Band for You Get What You Give . Swift is the only woman up for Entertainer of the year, as well as Album of the Year. Swift has some stiff competition in the Female Vocalist category, where Carrie Underwood, Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride are also nominated. Swift’s “Mean” is also up for Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year. The Band Perry, who seem poised for the type of crossover success Swift and Underwood have received in past years, are up for four awards, including Music Video of the Year, Single of the Year and Song of the Year for “If I Die Young,” as well as Vocal Group of the Year. The show will be hosted for the fourth year by nominees Paisley and Underwood and is set to take place on Wednesday, November 9 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and air live at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Now that she’s accomplished so much in her career this year, including drunk-tweeting her way through the Loud Tour , during which she may or may not have hooked up with Drake and made a sex tape with J. Cole , Rihanna feels ready for motherhood. After announcing in 2010 that she wants to adopt, sizzling-hot RIHANNA’s “dead-set on becoming a mom to a child from Haiti, and she’s just had lawyers make contacts,” reports an insider. “Rihanna doesn’t see herself having a biological child anytime soon because she doesn’t have a man in her life – plus, after all the drama with CHRIS BROWN, she’s suspicious of guys. “But mainly, she says, she needs to make her life less about her and more about someone else.” Yeah, you know: that doesn’t sound like the best way to start being more selfless. Can she start by launching a charity or opening a school in Barbados or something? Maybe not cursing out parents on Twitter for saying that her behavior/videos are inappropriate for young kids? Also, the report says: “She’s getting enthusiastic support from mentor JAY-Z and wife BEYONCE – and asked them to be godparents!” So, the 41-year-old and his way more than almost 30-year-old wife who waited until three years after their wedding to plan a pregnancy, are encouraging 23-year-old Rihanna to become a single mother??? Some Humpday Swirl: Garcelle Beauvais Spotted On Dinner Date With Sean Penn

Looks like recently divorced Garcelle Beauvais and Sean “I just dumped Scarlett Johansson” Penn are getting it in with each other!! According to E! online : So who shared a meal with the outspoken actor and human-rights activists the other night at the celebrity haunt Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angeles? Although he was arrived solo and sat alone at the bar for a bit, he was eventually joined by none other than Franklin & Bash actress Garcelle Beauvais. “When she arrived, they moved to the front corner table, which put them on display,” a source tells us. “They sat inside for a while and even ordered food.” Then they moved outside, where Penn was able to smoke—and perhaps have more privacy? Penn’s rep did not immediately comment. Beauvais’ issued the standard line about not commenting on her client’s private life.She was on hand in New York when Penn was honored earlier this year at the Help Haiti: Urban Zen HHRH & The Stiller Foundation event, which honored the Oscar winner for his work on the island nation. Hmmmm….well you already know these two are down with the swirl, so we believe it!

With all of the hoopla over the impending rapture tomorrow it was nice to come across someone speaking about religion in a way that the common person can relate to. Mike Bigga (formerly Killer Mike) released his latest album PL3DGE on Tuesday and it definitely earns a slot in our “Best Albums of 2011..So far” list. One song in particular that stands out to me is “God Is In The Building 2″, the follow up to “ God Is In The Building” from I Pledge Allegiance To The Grind 2 . While the entire song is rewind worthy the first verse is timely given the trending topic of the day. It’s hot like Haiti down in Hades/ The false prophet say the Lord has forsaken us Black babies/ To make it off a island in Mercedes/ We gone sell it white as Michelangelo’s Christ/ babies need rice The baby need beans/ to feed our babies beans we might have to flip a bean I have sold my people dope/ yet provided them with hope/sinner and  saint/ Yeah, I did ‘em both Yea I sold a brick/ on a basketball court/ and bought the uniforms for the basketball coach Can’t wash a way the blood so I put rings on my fingers/  25 carats symbolize my redeemer And my redeemer’s blood is/ capable of taking Chris Dudus making him a savior of others My God will take a Sual (and) Fashion (Form) him a Pual/ so only God can judge me/  and to hell with all ya’ll. The Fugees reunion may happen! Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis, a hit producer who worked with the band on their 1996 Grammy-winning album The Score , claims that it’s only a matter of time before Lauryn Hill , Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michel reignite the Fugees flame, according to Rap-Up.com . He told the, “I believe there will be a day when the Fugees get together, but everyone in the group’s gotta be ready … The Fugees are definitely going to get back together. The time will come. You’ve gotta wait, man.” Just last week he set the Twitter-verse alight with an April Fools Day prank claiming that a Fugees tour was imminent, tweeting, “BIG NEWS!!! What we’ve been waitin for!!!! @MsHillMvngTrgt @wyclef @prasmichel got offered $50 mill with @LiveNation!!” While sadly, he was just messing around, the reaction to the prank shows just how much people want the Fugees to get back together. “People all over the globe were saying, ‘Is it true? We really want the Fugees!’ …. Lauryn was getting phone calls. Wyclef was getting phone calls. Pras was getting phone calls. I felt that if tickets had gone on sale, it would have been sold out in two hours—globally.” Although there was talk of a reunion a while back, the plans were stalled, with Wyclef publicly criticizing Lauryn for holding up the process and calling her “mentally ill.” Ouch! Hopefully though, now that the band know just how many fans they still have, (even after Lauryn’s erratic attitude and turning up hours late for solo appearances recently) it will put a jump-start on their plans to regroup! A “Lil Positivity” Shakira Makes It Rain Charitable Stacks On Haiti To The Tune Of $400,000

It’s good to see that people are still keeping Haiti’s needs on their mind. Colombian singer Shakira danced with students in Haiti on Thursday as she celebrated the renovation of a historic Catholic girls school damaged in the country’s devastating 2010 earthquake. With her song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” playing over loudspeakers, the Grammy-winning, hip-shaking pop star grooved with students from the Elie Dubois high school in downtown Port-au-Prince. Her Barefoot Foundation, which helps child victims of violence and disasters, and the Inter-American Development Bank each donated $400,000 to restore the high school. “I’m convinced that the key to a dignified future for Haiti is through education,” said Shakira, 34, wearing a black T-shirt and matching jeans. The nine-classroom, 250-student school was built in 1913, and was the first in Haiti to provide vocational training for girls, officials said. Construction is expected to begin in two months and will take up to 14 months to complete. Organizers have yet to put out bids. Said one student of the sexy Colombian’s charitable donation: “It’s so nice that we have a star coming and that she’s coming to help the school,” said Joselourdes Jean-Paul, a 19-year-old student. “With the new school, we’re going to learn more and learn better.” This is a beautiful gesture and we hope more people follow suit as Haiti has a long way to go before they full recover from the destruction they’ve suffered. Lauryn Hill’s recent concert at Center Stage in Atlanta started three hours late and was full of new arrangements of her classic songs that fans were unable to recognize. Hill recently sent the city an apology via Twitter. In the letter, Hill gives a nod to Nicki Minaj, who Irv Gotti once said was Lauryn’s rightful successor. ATL I had to come back. I’M HERE and excited for the opportunity to do what should have been done the last time. Starting off on the wrong foot can always be easily rectified by putting another foot down, especially in a ‘monster shoe’ (Nicki Minaj quotable). Come Again! Police in Haiti are saying that Wyclef Jean was not hit by gunfire during a shooting that occurred over the weekend. Wyclef suffered an injury to his hand that officials are saying was caused by broken glass. From the NY Daily News : Jean said he was in a car with a driver in the Delmas section of the capital at the time. He doesn’t know who fired the shots, or whether they were directed at him, the 37-year-old Grammy winner said. Cops down-played the violence, and say the New Jersey resident – a Haitian-American who hoped to compete in the Caribbean nation’s ongoing presidential race – suffered only a minor cut to his hand from glass in an apparent accident. “We met with the doctor who saw him and he confirmed Wyclef was cut by glass,” Vanel Lacroix, police chief in Petionville where Jean is staying, told Reuters. Wyclef Jean Shot In Haiti

Haitian singer Wyclef Jean was shot in his hand in Haiti just outside of Port-au-Prince yesterday, the day before the presidential elections. Wyclef was a candidate for the presidential elections however, was ruled ineligible due to residency requirements. He was treated at a local hospital and was released. TMZ reports that the bullet grazed his hand and that “he’s fine now. It happened late yesterday night and he was released after a couple hours.” When asked about the shooting,  Wyclef stated that he was just leaving his car when he heard gunfire and then he noticed that he saw blood on his shirt and shoes and had no idea who fired shots and whether or not he was the target. Wyclef recently performed  at a concert given for Haitian presidential candidate Michel Martelly right before the shooting occurred. Glad to hear he’s okay!
