• Lock opts for Gloucester over Stade Français • Coach Bryan Redpath says he is ‘exceptionally pleased’ Gloucester’s Caledonian connection strengthened today when they won the race to sign the giant Scottish lock Jim Hamilton. The 27-year-old had appeared bound for Stade Français but performed a neat U-turn to come back to the Guinness Premiership club closest to his roots. Hamilton, key to Scotland’s win in Argentina last Saturday, was born in Swindon and moved to Edinburgh via Leicester where he played alongside Brett Deacon – another Gloucester signing this summer. With Dave Attwood, one of England’s few successes so far in Australia and Alex Brown, an England A international, also on the books at Kingsholm, Gloucester are acquiring a stable of class locks. In Hamilton and Attwood they will also have a couple of the “enforcers” that have been missing in recent seasons when Gloucester have trodden the Heineken Cup stage. “I’m exceptionally pleased to have signed Jim,” said Gloucester’s head coach, Bryan Redpath, adding with considerable understatement: “He’s a huge physical presence.” In fact Hamilton stands 6ft 8in, currently weighs in at close on 20st and has been a more than adequate replacement for another big man, Nathan Hines, for Scotland in Argentina. Alongside the captain, Alastair Kellock, Hamilton dominated the lineout last Saturday creating the possession Dan Parks turned into penalty goals. Hamilton still had 12 months of a three-year contract remaining at Edinburgh, but was keen to leave and the club was not prepared to stand in his way. He was a product of the Leicester Academy, making his debut for the first XV in 2003. He was capped by England at Under-21 level but opted to play for the land of his Glasgow-born father, becoming the 1,000th man to be capped by Scotland when he made his debut in November 2006. “Any player of Jim’s calibre is going to attract a number of offers, but the fact that he’s chosen to move to Kingsholm after coming down to look around and meet us is a great endorsement of the direction that Gloucester are heading in,” said Redpath, whose Scottish stable already includes another four currently on tour in Argentina – Rory Lawson, Alasdair Strokosch, Alasdair Dickinson and Scott Lawson. Malinda Traudt may be blind and wheelchair-bound but she and her mother are fighters. So, when the City of Dana Point threatened to shut down the collective where they get the medical marijuana Malinda needs to stay alive and manage her pain, they filed suit. Malinda was born with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, total blindness, and severe cognitive delays. Now 29 years old, she has been in a wheelchair her entire life. Recently, she was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis, a degenerative bone disease. Malinda's doctor gave her pain medication but, within hours, her kidneys began shutting down, her lungs filled with fluid causing pneumonia, she developed a high fever, and vomited for 3 straight days. Malinda's physician recommended that her mother contact hospice to arrange for Malinda's final hours. In a last-ditch effort to keep Malinda alive while managing her pain, Malinda's mother and her pain specialist replaced the pain medication with medical marijuana. Almost immediately, Malinda's fever subsided, she stopped vomiting, and her suffering lessened. Within days, she began to recover. Malinda's kidneys regained function, she was able to eat, and she began smiling again. Her pain became manageable and her quality of life improved significantly. Malinda is a medical marijuana patient and member of the Beach Cities Collective in Dana Point. Malinda's mother pushes her, in her wheelchair, to the collective to obtain her life-saving medicine. Unfortunately, Dana Point is trying to close Beach Cities Collective, along with all collectives in that City. Although numerous lawsuits have been filed by dispensaries, Malinda's is the first by a patient alleging that the ban unconstitutionally interferes with her fundamental rights to life and safety, under the California Constitution. According to Malinda's attorney, Jeff Schwartz, “When a dispensary challenges a ban, the city simply has to show that the ban serves a legitimate purpose, such as reducing crime, loitering, or traffic. Cities always win that battle. However, when a city interferes with a person's fundamental, constitutional rights, it must prove that the ban serves a compelling public interest and is narrowly-tailored to avoid interfering with other civil rights. A Florida teacher's lawsuit against her old school says she was fired because administrators found out her baby was conceived before her wedding. Jarretta Hamilton, a former fourth-grade teacher at Southland Christian School in St. Cloud, said she approached administrators in April 2009, shortly after her wedding, to tell them she was pregnant and request maternity leave for the coming fall, WKMG-TV, Orlando, reported Wednesday. “That's when the question was posed to her, 'Did you conceive prior to marriage?'” said Edward Gay, Hamilton's lawyer. He said Hamilton told administrators the truth, the baby was conceived about three weeks before the wedding, and she was fired one week later without being allowed to finish the school year. Gay said he received a letter from Southland Christian School administrator Julie Ennis explaining the reasons for the termination. “Jarretta was asked not to return because of a moral issue that was disregarded, namely fornication — sex outside of marriage,” Ennis wrote. “We request that Jarretta withdraw her complaint and consider the testimony of the Lord.” The letter said Hamilton was aware of the school's “standards, values, and purposes,” but Gay said the morality clause does not override state and federal discrimination laws. The lawsuit alleges violations of a federal pregnancy discrimination law and a state marital status discrimination law. The Chicago lyricist wrote that the members included himself, B.o.B , Asher Roth , J. Cole, Charles Hamilton, the Cool Kids, Diggy Simmons, Wale and indie rapper Blu. B.o.B told MTV News that the members are already brainstorming ideas. “The All City Chess Club is something that Lupe had the idea about, and me and Charles Hamilton were at a show, and he came up with the idea and talked to us about it, and we were down,” B.o.B said of the group’s genesis. “I feel like the respect level is mutual with all of us. And I’ve already done songs with Charles Hamilton, Lupe and Asher Roth. Basically, the whole concept of it is to have a project, a freelance project, that’s something fun and creative.” So far, nothing is concrete, and Lupe, Cole, Roth, the Cool Kids, Blu and Wale are all working on their own albums, while Hamilton is looking to resurrect his dormant career and Diggy Simmons is just introducing himself as an artist. The majority of the members are alumni of XXL ‘s Freshmen 10 lists. Roth, B.o.B. Blu, Wale and Hamilton graced the cover in ’09, while Cole was a part of the group that landed on the cover this year. Here’s former Atomic Kitten singer Natasha Hamilton showing off more than just her vocals skills the other night. I don’t know much about the band and even less about this Natasha chick but I know a good upskirt when I see one and this one ain’t bad.
