Singer created a ‘Candyfornia’ world for ‘The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats’ game, out in June. By Christina Garibaldi Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Katy Perry is sweetening up life for “The Sims.” The pop star is teaming up yet again with Electronic Arts in “The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats” game, available this June. Players will enter a Perry-inspired “Candyfornia,” where they can outfit their Sims in an array of Perry’s clothing and hairstyles and turn their neighborhoods and homes into a sweet-tooth’s dream. “I loved being a part of all the creative process … which outfit is my Sim going to have, what kind of hair color. Because when we were creating it together, I had pink hair, now I’m blue,” Perry told MTV News in February. “But you now have so many options.” “Sweet Treats” also features colorful items to enhance the Sims’ surroundings, including a waffle-cone picnic table, cupcake-themed guitars and Perry’s favorite, a banana-split sofa. “It’s more costumes, more props, more ‘Candyfornia,’ is what I call it, to add to your ‘Sims’ game,” Perry said. “What’s awesome about this is that some of the pieces that they had made and sketched for the ‘Sweet Treats’ package are so cool that I think I’m going to get them made. There’s this one banana-split sofa that you’re sitting on the banana part and the rest of the frosting and all the ice cream, it looks like it’s melting … so cool! I’m like, ‘Where can I pull all this crazy stuff?’ ” And while players are creating their candylicious world, they will have the pleasure of listening to Perry’s hit song “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” which she recorded in the Sims’ official language, Simlish. “I’m recording another song in Simlish. I’ve decided to record ‘Last Friday Night’ ’cause it’s really fun,” Perry said. “It seems to be a favorite of all the ‘Sims’ gamers.” This isn’t the first time that Perry has done a Simlish song. She recorded “Hot n’ Cold” for “The Sims 2: Apartment Life.” But even though she’s recorded two songs in the Simlish language so far, by no means does she consider herself an expert. “Expert? No; it’s hard,” Perry said of singing in Simlish. “I have a cheat sheet, so when I go in and record ‘Last Friday Night’ in Simlish, I’m going to be following everything. It kind of sounds like you’re speaking in tongues, which I grew up doing anyways, so I feel I have a bit of an advantage. It’s not an easy feat.” Perry is also featured in “The Sims 3: Showtime,” which hit stores last month. Are you excited to hear “Last Friday Night” in Simlish? Let us know in the comments.

Clip for Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded single with 2 Chainz is ‘real sexy,’ Minaj tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Kelly Marino Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj isn’t just creative in the studio — she puts it down on the video set as well. With her first album, we saw the Harajuku Barbie and Amber Rose get their “Thelma & Louise” on in the “Massive Attack” clip, and then saw Nicki the Ninja fight for her man in the “Your Love” video. In the clip for “Fly,” the reigning rap queen sang alongside Rihanna in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and then, in the bright and cheery “Super Bass” vid, she proved that even the baddest Barbs just want to have fun. Makes you wonder what Nicki has in store visually for her sophomore LP, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded , in stores Tuesday (April 3). We’ve already gotten the Hype Williams-directed “Stupid Hoe,” but there is no telling what Nicki will do next — though we’ll soon find out. “You’re getting two videos: You’re getting the ‘Starships’ video, which I’m hoping it will hurry up and happen,” she told MTV News on Thursday after her “American Idol” performance in L.A. Fans have already gotten a small taste of the ‘Starships’ vid thanks to the set pics that leaked earlier this month of Nicki in a pink bikini, but the Young Money hitmaker still has to do color corrections before the visual is complete. Minaj plans to first release the video for her 2 Chainz-assisted single “Beez in the Trap.” “I actually finished the editing for ‘Beez in the Trap,’ which features 2 Chainz, and … I love that video,” Nicki gushed. She guessed the ‘Beez in the Trap’ clip would come out Tuesday in conjunction with her album release, but couldn’t say with 100 percent confidence. Regardless of its drop date though, Nicki promised quality. “It’s real sexy,” she boasted. “There’s a clean version and an explicit version, and it’s goin’ to be poppin’.” To celebrate Tuesday’s (April 3) release of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded , we will be examining the “Evolution of Nicki Minaj” throughout the week. Check MTV News every day to see how the Southside Jamaica, Queens, Barbie went from a promising mixtape standout to rap’s reigning queen. Related Videos The Evolution Of Nicki Minaj

‘Little girls can aspire to be anything and that’s all I want people to see,’ Minaj tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News If Nicki Minaj ever decided to walk away from music, maybe she should consider a second career as a scientist of some sort. Hardly a stranger to experimentation, rap’s reigning queen seems to stand as an evolving amalgamation of her quirky fantasy-based creations. Nicki throws the different paints of her colorful imagination up against the wall just to see what sticks, as evidenced on the album cover to her sophomore LP, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded . Since she first jumped onto the scene, Nicki has encouraged her dedicated fanbase to live out their wildest dreams. MTV News caught up with the Young Money superstar right after she performed to open the 2012 NBA All-Star Game in February. We asked her what it meant to be ranked in the top five of our annual Hottest MCs in the Game list . “If there’s one thing I want people to take away from it, it’s just that little girls can aspire to be anything, and that’s all I want people to see,” Nicki said between deep breaths, still winded from her energetic All-Star performance. “Whether you follow Nicki Minaj’s blueprint or not, just don’t be afraid to experiment and don’t allow people to knock your hustle just ’cause it ain’t something that you’re used to seeing.” From her theatrical flow to her outlandish fashion sense, Nicki Minaj has definitely given fans things that they’ve never seen before. Who can forget when she gave both Jay-Z and Kanye West a lyrical run for their rap money on 2010’s “Monster,” or Nicki’s anime-inspired VMA outfit ? In theory, Nicki’s rap success should open the doors for more female MCs to be signed and fill hip-hop’s gaping feminine void. Since the Harajuku Barbie’s rise to prominence, women rappers like Kreayshawn, Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks have all made notable strides. “That’s what I like,” Nicki said about her number-four placement on the Hottest MCs list. “I like that I’m there because it gives little girls in Southside Jamaica, Queens, or South Africa or Brazil a moment to say, ‘Oh wait, I can be a female rapper!’ Yes, you really can.” To celebrate the April 3 release of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, we will be examining the “Evolution of Nicki Minaj” throughout the week. Check MTV News every day to see how the Southside Jamaica, Queens, Barbie went from a promising mixtape standout to rap’s reigning queen. ‘It’s gonna be important for just hip-hop culture and pop culture,’ Minaj tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Playtime is over and on her latest single, “Roman Reloaded,” Nicki Minaj returned to the rapid-fire rhyming that first got her noticed on hip-hop’s mixtape circuit. The Rico Beats-produced banger features pounding drums, well-timed gunshot effects and plenty of tough talk from Nicki and her Young Money boss Lil Wayne . It’s a far cry from last year’s “Super Bass” and the Harajuku Barbie’s RedOne-produced pop-affair “Starships.” “That’s just a preview of what’s to come on the album. I know what people need right now,” Nicki told MTV News in her dressing room at the Amway Center after her NBA All-Star Game performance on Sunday. Anticipation is building for Nick’s sophomore LP, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and with a little more than a month left before it is released, many are still unsure which direction the Young Money star will take. Will the album sound more like the title track or “Starships”? Of course, there is always a middle ground. “April 3 is gonna be a doozy. It’s gonna be crazy,” Nicki said of her album release date. “It’s gonna be important for just hip-hop culture and pop culture. It’s gonna be very big.” On Thursday (March 1), Nicki unveiled her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded album cover via Twitter . The colorful album art shows the reigning rap queen with blond hair and a mix of pink, purple and green paint covering her face. What are you expecting from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded ? Deceased icon ‘never got a chance to really come back like we thought she would,’ supporter tells MTV News. By James Dinh Whitney Houston Photo: Epsilon/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Hollywood’s outpouring of condolences and mourning for Whitney Houston , who died Saturday afternoon , has hit a string of stars as well as her legions of fans. Just hours after the tragic announcement, MTV News took to the busy streets of Times Square to see how her fans are coping with the loss of the music icon. “We’re hearing the news of Whitney Houston’s death, and Whitney was the original diva of my generation,” one fan said proudly. ” ‘I Will Always Love You’ is probably her best ballad. No one can sing that song like Whitney can sing it. “Whitney Houston, rest in peace. We love you,” he added. Houston’s remarkable singing talent turned her into a worldwide phenomenon and made people take notice. “We gonna miss her. Ain’t no musician like that ever going to come. We ain’t ever going to see a singer like that,” another supporter said of her unique skill. Even through her troubles with substance abuse, Team Whitney remained optimistic, as one loyal fanatic confessed, “We would have never thought that she was the one to pass away, out of all people.” Calling her “one of the best voices in R&B history,” another fan opened up about her early age of death saying, “It’s just too bad that she had to go so early, and never got a chance to really come back like we thought she would.” “She’s just such a strong woman. She’s considered like an idol to so many people,” one group of fans added. With mentions of favorite Whitney ventures like her hit film “The Bodyguard,” it is certain the superstar’s legacy will live on for years to come as a trio of fans began singing her smash “I Will Always Love You.” Jennifer Hudson and Chaka Khan will pay tribute to the late icon at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards . Twitter followers debate about the performance, while one hip-hop expert tells MTV News it signals Minaj’s ‘push for pop.’ By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj performs at the 2012 Grammy Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Nicki Minaj’s Grammy performance Sunday night (February 12) was spirited, to say the least. Beginning her set with the “Exorcism of Roman” mini-movie, Minaj unleashed her alter ego onstage in a horror-themed backdrop and debuted her “Roman Holiday” single. It was the most elaborate of the night’s Grammy performances and has everyone talking. AllHipHop.com founder Chuck Creekmur thinks the performance will be among the most-talked-about tomorrow. “I definitely felt like she was reaching out to the mainstream with this performance, trying to make that full leap into the pop world,” he told MTV News. “She’ll definitely have people talking. Obviously, we’ve seen this before with Madonna and Lady Gaga — especially Gaga.” Video: Watch Highlights From The 2012 Grammy Awards Nicki’s fanatic following on Twitter was in full support of Minaj’s display. “@NICKIMINAJ that is a monumental M4L for you and us. I’m in love with your performance,” @SlickerGuy tweeted. Others weren’t as turned on by the Harajuku Barbie’s set. “Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, I’m all about expression, but it has gone overboard. Love Adele cause her focus is on music, not controversy,” @thekatiestevens wrote. “I liked Nicki Minaj’s performance. Too many people be sipping on that hater aid! Hahaha,” @_lookslikeali wrote, responding to all the negative comments. While he did praise her for pushing the envelope, Creekmur thought Minaj was slowly shifting out of the hip-hop universe for poppier pastures. “One part theater and one part music — it just felt very much like she almost abandoning her hip-hop roots and really making a push for pop,” he said. “Not necessarily in a bad way, but definitely a concerted effort; when you’re making the leap and you know you’re not coming back.” Stick with MTV News for all the news on Whitney Houston’s tribute, the Grammy red-carpet fashion , Grammy winners and more until the hangover wears off!
