It may have taken awhile, and it may have included one canceled wedding, but Huge Hefner is now happily married to Crystal Harris . And the Playboy founder tells the new issue of Esquire that, contrary to popular opinion, his union could not be more ideal. “All our friends think it’s made in heaven,” Hefner says . “It’s only people who don’t know us who simply use us as stereotypes in terms of age and beauty. I just feel very, very fortunate to have found her at this stage in my life. I saved the best till last.” And just how many women came before Harris? “Over a thousand, I’m sure,” Hefner said of his magic number, though he’s quick to tell the magazine: “There were chunks of my life when I was married, and when I was married I never cheated. But I made up for it when I wasn’t married. You have to keep your hand in.” Well, sure. But the better question would be: How does this 86-year old keep a certain other body part up ?
Yuck daddy! Chicago Mom Sues McDonald’s After Son Eats Condom In His Food Via MiamiHerald A lawsuit against McDonald’s alleges a child ate a used condom he found in the play area of one of the chain’s Chicago restaurants. The suit was filed Wednesday on behalf of Anishi Spencer and her two sons, who were 3 and 2 years old at the time of the alleged incident in February 2012. The mother alleges the 2-year-old coughed up a piece of the condom and that both children required medical treatment. The suit accuses McDonald’s of failing to remove harmful debris from an area used by children. McDonald’s said Thursday it was investigating. It added in a statement that “providing a safe, clean environment is a top priority.” The woman’s attorney, Jeffrey Deutschman, says he tried for months to reach a settlement but got no response. Words can’t even begin to describe how ignorant we would have acted in that Mickey D’s if our child coughed up a condom! Fawk an apology and free food, somebody gotta catch the epic bus driver uppercut !
Black defendants facing trial in Houston, the death penalty capital of America – are more than three times as likely to face a possible death sentence than whites , new academic research has revealed. Black Prisoners More Likely To Get Death Penalty Than Whites Via The Guardian reports: The study, by a criminologist at the University of Maryland, exposes the extent of racial discrimination inherent in the administering of capital punishment in Harris County, the ground zero of the death penalty in the US. The county, which incorporates Houston, Texas’s largest city, has carried out 116 executions in the modern era – more than any entire state in the union apart from Texas itself. Professor Raymond Paternoster of the university’s institute of criminal justice and criminology was commissioned by defence lawyers acting in the case of Duane Buck, a death row prisoner from Houston whose 1995 death sentence is currently being reconsidered by the Texas courts. Paternoster, whose report is based on the latest quantitative methods, looked at 504 cases involving adult defendants who had been indicted for capital murder in Harris County between 1992 and 1999 – the period during which Buck was charged for murdering his former girlfriend, Debra Gardner, and a man called Kenneth Butler. Paternoster whittled down that pool to 20 cases that most closely echoed that of Buck’s own in terms of the factors involved in the crime that were likely to incur a death sentence. He found that of the 21 men, including Buck, seven out of the 10 who were African American were sent by the Harris County district attorney for capital trial, compared with just one of the five white defendants. “The probability that the district attorney will advance a case to a [death] penalty trial is more than three times as high when the defendant is African American than for white defendants,” Paternoster writes. He adds: “The disparity by race of the defendant, moreover, cannot be attributed to observed case characteristics because these cases are those that were most comparable”. The habeus petition chronicles the long and controversial history of the death penalty in Texas, particularly in Harris County. Though the county has a black population of 19%, African Americans represent almost 50% of the people detained in its jails, while 68% of the past 34 executions to emerge from the area involved black inmates. What do you think of the latest study? Shocked?
Do the right thing. Word to Spike Lee. Homeless Man Awarded $86,000 In Donations For Returning Diamond Ring Things have only gotten better for Billy Ray Harris since he asked “WWJD?” and returned a misplaced diamond ring . Via Huffington Post Honesty really is the best policy for a kind homeless man whose life has been completely turned around. Billy Ray Harris, a panhandler in Missouri, grabbed the nation’s attention earlier this month after he returned a diamond ring that was mistakenly dropped in his change cup, KCTV reported. The inspiring story quickly went viral and Sarah Darling, the grateful owner of the ring, set up a fundraiser for Harris with her husband to show her appreciation. They collected more than $86,000 since Feb. 14 as of press time and will be personally giving the funds to Harris. “I’m not sure of how you ended up in your situation, but after what I witnessed you do, I am most definitely sure that you are a honest man with a good heart,” Volanda Shields, a donor who gave $1,000, wrote on Harris’ GiveForward page. “Watching you on the news the other day brought tears to my eyes because I thought of what so many others would have done.” Darling and her husband, Bill Krejci, remain in close contact with Harris and continue to share just how inspired they are by him and the way others have responded to the story. “Words cannot express how it feels to be a part of something like this,” Krejci wrote on the GiveForward fundraising page. As heart-warming as this story is, Mr. Harris has a interesting perspective on his new found riches. But Harris, who was raised by his reverend grandfather, told KCTV that the decision to return the ring was an obvious one, and that he doesn’t actually think his actions warrant so much attention. “What I actually feel like is,” Harris told KCTV, “what has the world come to when a person who returns something that doesn’t belong to him and all this happens?” Good point, but congratulations nonetheless. According to Crystal Harris , Mary even played a key role in their reconciliation after she went all Runaway Bride on him during their first wedding attempt. According to a statement from Charity Buzz, Harris’ partner in the venture: “Crystal is donating this dress in memory of her good friend, Mary O’Connor.” “Mary was Hugh Hefner’s longtime assistant of 40 years, and is credited with helping Crystal reconcile with Hef last year, ultimately leading to their recent wedding.” “Money raised will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Mary’s name.” Bids for the 26-year-old Harris’ gorgeous strapless, floor-length mermaid-style, soft pink Romona Keveza gown and Aruna Seth shoes will start at $1,000. The auction is set to end on February 11.
