Ashley Martson Undergoes Surgery, Asks 90 Day Fiance Fans for Money

Ashley Martson has taken the next step in her hopeful recovery from kidney failure. But it still sounds as if the 90 Day Fiance star has a long way to go. Just days ago, Martson revealed to fans that she had been hospitalized after being found unresponsive at her home. It was determined she is in acute kidney failure due to lupus. Open, scared and vulnerable, this is what Martson wrote at the time on Instagram: I’m sorry if this photo offends anyone but I will not hide that I’m sick. If I can help one person with lupus then posting this is worth it. I was found unresponsive this morning at my home. The Ambulance took me to the hospital where it was found that I am in acute kidney failure due to lupus. I will begin dialysis shortly. I will not let this beat me. I know I’m strong enough to battle through this,not just for myself but for my kids. I will be transferred to another hospital this evening that is better equipped. Please pray for myself and my family as I know it’s going to be a very tough road ahead for all of us. Thank you for your continuous support and prayers. And now, along with a photo of the word “Update,” a friend of the TLC personality kept Instagram followers apprised of Martson’s status as follows: Ashley underwent surgery where they placed a catheter into her abdomen. This is for access site to begin peritoneal dialysis today. Doctors are hopeful that dialysis will be temporary and that it will aid in helping her kidneys repair themselves. There is a chance she can go home tomorrow and be looked after by home health care nurses. Please continue to pray that this works and that Ashley will not need a kidney transplant. Either way Ashley will be down for quite some time. It’s also worth noting that husband Jay Smith is currently by Martson’s side. This would simply be assumed for most couples, but Smith admitted to cheating on his wife late last year. It’s been unclear since whether they are together or separated. Along with the above photo of his hand in hers, however, Smith acknowledged his infidelity on Monday and wrote to/about Martson: “I may have hurt you. I may have not been a good husband. Jumping on a plane the second I found out you was in the hospital was something I didn’t even think twice to do. “We have our differences but as long as I have life I will never let you sit alone and suffer. I love you and nothing will ever change that. Thank you for having me here to support you.” Martson was previously hospitalized in December due to complications from lupus days. In that case, the health scare took place after an episode of 90 Day Fiance that centered on how she caught Smith cheating on her by messaging other women after their wedding. Has the couple put this mistake behind them for good? Or have they merely tabled their major issues until Ashley gets better? We can’t say for certain at this time. Elsewhere, however, a GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Martson with her medical bills. More than 104 people have donated in the past two days, raising $2,295 ofits stated $10,000 goal. This is what the campaign says on its home page: She will be out of work for months without any financial support. She has two children that she is responsible for as well as the typical bills for her home and car. Medical bills are piling up and she is in need of help. I know this is very hard for Ashley to ask for help but at this point she has run out of options. Please find it in your heart to donate to Ashley and her children so she can focus on getting well and not stress over finances. If you are unable to donate please pray for Ashley and her family. Jameela Jamil Blasts Khloe Kardashian: Stop Fat-Shaming Women!

Jameela Jamil’s one-woman crusade against the weight loss industry continues. The The Good Place star’s latest target is a social media influencer who needs no introduction: Khloe Kardashian. Is Jameela’s criticism a rare miss, or is she right on the money? Khloe Kardashian took to Instagram on Thursday to share one of those goofy text posts that are designed to be relatable to people of every age. “2 things a girl wants,” the post begins with white text on a soft pink background. The text reads: “1) lose weight 2) eat.” Those two activities are often seen as contradictory. Losing weight is often a social pressure or personal desire, often to meet certain beauty standards. Eating, of course, is required for people to live. It is also intensely enjoyable. Those who eat less in order to lose weight or wish that they could bring themselves to do so could relate to Khloe’s post. On Twitter, Jameela Jamil was not amused by Khloe’s Instagram Story. “This makes me sad,” Jameela expressed. “I hope,” she wrote, that “my daughter grows up wanting more than this.” Jameela added: “I want more than this.” Alongside her tweet, she included a screenshot of Khloe’s post. Jameela made it clear that she does not harbor any ill will towards Khloe. “Sending love to this poor woman,” she emphasized. “This industry did this to her,” Jameela accused. “The media did it to her.” She wrote: “They fat shamed her into a prison of self critique.” “Dear girls,” Jameela concluded. “WANT MORE THAN THIS.” She finished her tweet with a large red heart emoji. Jameela Jamil has been taking aim at a number of celebrities on social media. In particular, she has excoriated those who promote weight-loss products. From “fit tea” to appetite suppressing lollipops, she sees social media influencers push these products upon young and impressionable followers. In real life, of course, these products often do little more than cause diarrhea. These are not the tools that wealthy influencers use to keep their bodies slender. For that, they have nutritionists, personal trainers, and sometimes even surgery. There is no “weight-loss secret.” it’s money. Just like with everything else. And Jameela doesn’t want to see young people damage their health because they think that they’re simply not trying hard enough. One might ask what Jameela, one of the most beautiful human beings on the planet, could possibly know about body image issues. The answer is: quite a lot. She has been open about her own experience with eating disorders, and revealed that even her reproductive organs were damaged by it. Even now, she says that makeup technicians have offered to hide stretch marks on her boobs. She is a model and actress, so she knows that she is in the spotlight. Fortunately, she can now handle it. Her concern is for countless impressionable young women (and men and those who are neither) who are so desperate to be thin that they’ll try anything. Jameela points out that widespread bullying is what pushed Khloe to transform her look. Khloe is fitness-obsessed these days. That was not always the case. In that accusation, we’d say that perhaps Jameela went a little too far. (I love Jameela, but she sounded a little patronizing — it’s not her or anyone’s place to speak for Khloe and her weight-loss motives) But given the scope of Khloe’s influence, being constructively critical of her post was extremely fair. Trying to power through, Wendy made it to work for the rest of the week after resting on Monday–but many fans noticed that the host was acting really odd during Hot Topics. So odd, in fact, that Wendy’s Youtube channel never uploaded the footage like they usually do. Some of the behavior that has fans concerned–including Williams slurring her words, looking confused, and not being able to properly get her words out–is present in her interview with The Love, which you can watch here. The questionable behavior got fans worried, thinking back to the time that Wendy fainted live on air after behaving in a similar way. The host even brought out a chair for her to sit in while she did “Ask Wendy” with her audience members, raising suspicions that she couldn’t even stand up. I hope @WendyWilliams will be able to really take a break and work on her health over the break. Williams took to Instagram to post both a thank you and an apology to fans: Wendy attributes her slurred speech and slowed reaction time to pain medication for her arm fracture, which she said she’s never taken in her life. She goes on to say that she appreciates everyone’s genuine concern and promises a “better Wendy in 2019.” Feel better, Wendy!

A lmost three weeks after winning her controversial runoff election, Mississippi’s GOP Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith had no intention of returning donations to companies that demanded refunds after she created public relations problems for them with her racist campaign. SEE ALSO: How Racism Came To Dominate The Mississippi Senate Runoff Election Hyde-Smith’s campaign made one exception when it returned money to just one donor: Major League Baseball, which is trying to promote racial diversity as fewer Black athletes chose to play baseball, the New York Times reported on Friday. MLB’s contribution represented $5,000 of the more than $50,000 that donors wanted back. Hyde-Smith, who has an affinity for white supremacy, set off a furor with her remark about public hangings in a state that has a long history of lynchings. She was running against Mike Espsy , a former congressman who is African-American. A Federal Election Commission spokeswoman told the newspaper that Hyde-Smith is not required by law to return the contributions. Regulations only require campaign committees to return illegal donations or those that exceed contribution amount limits. A runoff was necessary because none of the candidates won more than 50 percent of the votes on Election Day. It appears that Hyde-Smith’s campaign spent all the money over an abundance of fear that she created an opening for Espy to win. Espy was a clear underdog in the runoff election. A  survey  taken shortly before the election showed that Hyde-Smith had a 10-point lead. However, fearful Republicans scrambled in the days ahead of the runoff election to prevent Hyde-Smith from losing the Senate seat, prompting President  Donald Trump  to hold rallies in the state with the hope of turning out his base to vote for her. The worry stemmed from an unguarded moment on her campaign trail when Hyde-Smith  revealed her racist attitude toward African Americans . At a Nov. 2 campaign stop, she praised a longtime supporter. “If he invited me to a public hanging, I’d be on the front row,” she was caught saying on a video posted to social media. In the following weeks, more revelations about her undying love for the Confederacy surfaced. As the public’s memories of the runoff fade with the passage of time, many of these same companies, which include Walmart and the health insurance giant Aetna, will have to decide whether to support Hyde-Smith’s re-election campaign in 2020. Willow attributed it vulnerability: “Obviously we’re in a patriarchal society that looks down on vulnerability and looks down on emotion and looks down on femininity,” Willow said. “The biggest rebellion is coming into your vulnerability and seeing that as a power. Once you get in touch with your emotions, you start to understand things in a whole other way. How Sway?! Honolulu Preschoolers Were Mistakenly Served Pine-Sol Instead Of Apple Juice

Source: Istvan Pinter / EyeEm / Getty Preschool Students Accidentally Given Pine-Sol To Drink According to officials, three children accidentally took sips of the household cleaner Pine-Sol after a classroom assistant at their Honolulu preschool mistook the liquid for apple juice. The Honolulu Emergency Services Department has said that the paramedics evaluated three young girls at the Kilohana United Methodist Church Preschool on Tuesday morning, and fortunately, they found no signs trauma or sickness following the unfortunate mistake. The children did not end up being taken to the hospital. Following the mishap, the state Department of Health inspected the preschool. The inspection report says the assistant was preparing crackers and juice for the children. The classroom’s teacher is the one who smelled that the liquid most definitely wasn’t apple juice, which is when she stopped the rest of the classroom’s students from drinking it. “Only sips were taken before the lead teacher realized the liquid was not apple juice,” the preschool said, according to reports from HawaiiNewsNow . “The staff responded immediately by calling EMS and police, the children’s parents were immediately notified as well.” The report also notes that the cleaner was still in its original container and properly labeled, so it’s not clear how the assistant mistook the liquid for apple juice. A classroom assistant at Kilohana United Methodist Church Preschool in Honolulu mistook the cleaning fluid for juice on November 27 “because it has the same color,” according to a Hawaii health department inspection report. The preschool has now announced that it will be evaluating its process for obtaining snacks and refreshments in an effort to prevent this from ever happening again.

CDC Warns People Not To Eat Romaine Lettuce Admit E. Coli Concerns

Source: Scott Olson / Getty The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are warning US consumers to not eat romaine lettuce as it may be contaminated with E. coli. Thirty-two people, including 12 who have been hospitalized have been infected with the outbreak strain in 11 stages. One had a life threatening form of kidney failure. People have gotten sick in California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio as well as Wisconsin. The CDC is reporting that if you have any romaine lettuce at home, you should throw it away, even if you have eaten some and didn’t get sick like other people. The warning goes for all brands and types of romaine lettuce considering that no one distributor or source has been determined. Illnesses in the current outbreak started in October. It is not related to the romaine lettuce outbreak from this past summer . According to the CDC , symptoms of E. coli infection, which usually begin about three or four days after consuming the bacteria, can include “watery or bloody diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting.” It normally takes people to see their health improve within five to seven days but this strain of E. coli has caused more severe illnesses.

‘RHOAS11’ Recap: Kandi Learns That Porsha’s New Man Might Be Running Game

Porsha wants to lose some extra weight that she gained while Eva is trying to lose baby weight and get wedding ready. But let’s be real, they do a lot more kiki’ing than working out and it comes to light that Eva feels some type of thing about Marlo. She feels like Marlo is entitled and it rubs her the wrong way. We all know this is definitely going to come back up because Marlo got time. She also delights in shading Cynthia. This scene couldn’t have been more than two minutes in before she took a few digs at Cynthia’s age. It’s was so unnecessary and frankly, she will be Cynthia’s age one day and she’d be so lucky to look as good. Yeah, ageism is wack. In other news, Nene and Gregg Leakes are still dealing with his health crisis. The good news is that there are no more cancer cells in Gregg’s body, but his doctor recommends that he undergo chemo, which increases his chances of remaining cancer free for life. Gregg isn’t into chemo because of all the negative side effects, so he’s looking into holistic options and NeNe supports him 100%. Next, we meet Shomari DeVoe, a new entry to the show (she’s married to Ronnie DeVoe). Shomari and Kandi know each other from being in the music biz so this should be interesting. Actually, it will be interesting. Shomari is getting back into singing again after several rough years in the music industry from being dropped from her label to the death of her groupmate, Natina Reed. She invites Kandi to an upcoming performance she has at ATL Live. Kandi invites the crew to Shomair’s show, of course, and they all come through, even NeNe. Things get shady really quickly, though. After Shomari performs (Blaque is operating as a duo), she brings her husband, Ronnie, to chat with the ladies. The palm trees start to sway when Shomari encourages Ronnie to give Kandi some pointers about Xscape’s stage presence. Basically, he said they need to work on their placement. Naturally, this advice came out of nowhere and Kandi isn’t quite interested in receiving this message, especially since, New Edition, opened up for her. Finally, the episode ends on a note that will probably be dragged out the entire season. Word on the street is, Porsha’s man is shady. This is how we know: Kandi gets together with Jami, Porsha’s former friend (we all remember when Porsha beat her down outside of an event for something trite, as usual, smh), and Carmon, her assistant. Kandi really likes Jami, despite her rift with Porsha. So, here we are. Jami started spilling all the tea about how she knows a couple of women who’ve dated Porsha’s man and with one friend, in particular. It seems that latter situation is freshly over and may even overlap with Porsha’s situation. He even had her friends’ name tattooed on his body and in general, he does to run game. For example, he allegedly likes pretending to cook food he actually had other people cook and the gist here is that Porsha might really need to ask her man all the questions she said she doesn’t want to ask out of fear of being lonely. You know, pick me logic . Jami’s testimony is juxtaposed with Porsha telling her mom how sprung she is and how he told her that she’s the first person to make him feel the way he feels and that he plans to get her face tattooed on him. Basically, this season has started off slow, but it’s about to be lit when all of this gossip comes bubbling to the surface. Black-Owned Hair Brand Raises $23M In Venture Capital

T he beauty industry is expected to be worth $390 billion by the year 2020 and Black entrepreneurs are making sure they have a piece of the pie. Essence Ventures, Cross Culture Ventures, Impact America Fund, and 16z were all instrumental in helping them secure the new funds. Diishan Imira , Co-founder & CEO, Mayven says that the money will go towards the creation of a new service for the company which will allow customers to have their hair installed by Mayven-certified hairstylists for free. Mayven is also planning on launching a new wig line next year. “Mayvenn has been well received by the investment community because it’s different,” Imira said in a statement, according to Black Enterprise. “Investors saw that we had traction and an ownable stake of a large, fragmented market that has been highly overlooked with millions of dollars in buying power who wanted a better way to find and purchase hair. Additionally, as founders, we’re not only passionate about our mission, but have very unique and complementary skill sets to go out and solve these problems.” Mayven isn’t the only Black-owned business in the beauty industry that is making waves and securing venture capital. Amanda Johnson and KJ Miller —the two women behind the makeup brand Mented Cosmetics —broke barriers for Black women in the realm of entrepreneurship after becoming the 15th and 16th African-American women in history to garner $1 million in venture capital funding for their startup.
