Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch Wants To Drop Hot Sauce This Fall

MCA is on the mend after cancer treatment, but the group may ‘reevaluate’ new album. By Gil Kaufman Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch Photo: Mark Von Holden/ Getty Images After being diagnosed with cancer of the salivary gland last summer, the Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch is on the mend and thinking about music again. The MC, who underwent surgery and treatment in the fall, told Entertainment Weekly that he’s ready to get back to work. “I feel better,” Yauch said on Friday at the Independent Spirit Awards in Los Angeles. “It was touch and go there for a while, but I am finally getting my energy back.” Yauch announced on July 20 that the discovery of the cancer would necessitate the canceling of all of the Beasties’ planned summer-festival appearances and push back their new album, Hot Sauce Committee, Part One, while he underwent treatment. According to a band spokesperson, because the cancer was discovered early and localized in an area that does not affect Yauch’s vocal cords, it is believed the surgery was successful. While a the album, originally due out last September, is not yet officially rescheduled, Yauch said he expects it to drop this September. “It was really disappointing to have to hold the record and postpone the tour, but doctor’s orders,” he told EW. “We may or may not [release the album], depending on how my health is come September. We want to but we have to play it by ear.” Either way, the B-Boys are planning on taking another listen to the tracks they had prepped to see if some tweaking is in order. “I was just talking to Adam [Horovitz] and Mike [D] today on the phone and we were talking about working on it a bit,” Yauch said. “We finished the record over a year ago, so we want to take a look at it and reevaluate and make sure it is what we want to put out there and that we are still happy with it. I don’t think we will change it up too much.” A spokesperson for the group could not be reached at press time to confirm a new release date. Related Artists Beastie Boys

My very own Senator, Mark Begich, is the 50th Senator open to using reconciliation to pass Health Care Reform in this country. Can we get excited yet?

I KNOW that Mark wants to pass this very badly. I spoke to him about that very subject several months ago and he expressed his desire to get the bill passed. He is being very careful, which is called for in the crazy political times we are living in, but he is definitely NOT going to balk if the other 49 senators are ready to do this thing. Thank you for contacting me regarding health care reform. The reconciliation process is a budgetary tool used to address spending and deficit issues with a simple majority vote. The budget reconciliation process has been used 22 times by both parties since 1980. Action to clean up the health reform bill will further reduce the deficit. Comprehensive health care reform has already passed the Senate with 60 votes. If the House passes the Senate bill, the President could sign that version of comprehensive reform into law. I believe reconciliation would only be used as a tool to take out special backroom deals and to eliminate concerns raised by many Alaskans I’ve talked with. The President has proposed narrow changes which I support, including completely closing the coverage gap for seniors’ prescription drugs, eliminating the special Nebraska funding provision, providing additional federal financing to all states to help pay for the expansion of Medicaid, and strengthening the Medicare waste, fraud, and abuse provisions. Again, thank you for contacting me. As the 111th Congress moves forward, please continue to be in touch with your thoughts and concerns. Sincerely, Mark Begich U.S. Senator You can read more by clicking the title and visiting Shannyn’s blog. And by the way speaking of Shannyn, I need to give her a lot of credit for pushing Senator Begich on this issue and repeatedly asking him, both on the radio and in private, what he is going to do. Without Shannyn’s persistence we may still have no idea how Begich was planning to vote. Thank you Shannyn.

Matt Damon ‘Disappointed’ With President Obama’s Progress

After campaigning vigorously for Obama, the ‘Green Zone’ star voices dissatisfaction with president’s accomplishments thus far. By Larry Carroll Matt Damon Photo: Jason Kempin/ Getty Images After being one of the most prominent celebrities campaigning for change in 2008, Matt Damon is changing his tune these days, admitting that he is “disappointed” with President Barack Obama progress thus far, couching his comments by noting the inflated expectations that greeted Obama. While speaking with the press to promote his soon-to-be-released political thriller “Green Zone,” Damon reportedly told New York’s Daily News that he isn’t thrilled with how Obama’s first term has gone so far. “Everyone feels a little let down,” Damon said. “Because on some level, people expected all their problems to go away.” Damon is voicing his dismay about President Obama while promoting a movie about the failings of the previous administration. In “Green Zone,” Damon plays Roy Miller , a soldier who fights to expose the Bush regime’s lack of factual clarity regarding weapons of mass destruction. The film will no doubt bring Democrats out to the theater — but in his own personal beliefs, the always-upfront Damon refuses to tow the company line. “I’m disappointed in the health care plan,” Damon said in regards to Obama efforts that he feels are falling short. “And in the troop build-up in Afghanistan.” Less than two years ago, it was Damon who campaigned alongside Obama for “Hope” and “Change,” saying he would do “whatever it takes to help Obama win.” Nowadays, with a vocal segment of the population critically judging Obama’s first year in office, Damon is saying that people can’t sit around expecting the president to change the world. “Real change comes from everyday people,” he insisted. “You can’t wait for a leader.” A high-profile Democrat whose statements about Sarah Palin appearing on the scene “like a bad Disney movie” the spotlight when the former vice presidential candidate became a national figure, Damon went on to explain that his “Green Zone” character falls much more in line with Palin’s politics than his own. “Monty was a Republican — he voted for Bush,” explained. “He went to Iraq with the absolute conviction he was going to find the WMDs.” Damon added that he plans to stand by the president, but hopes that he gets more accomplished in his second year in office than he did in his first. “Politics is compromise,” the actor admitted. “I’m disappointed [in the compromises Obama has made].” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
