New Orleans Pelicans: A Winning Name?

It’s official: The New Orleans Hornets are now the New Orleans Pelicans. No, really! The team announced today that it will change monikers for the 2013-2014 season, unveiling the following colors and logo to go along with it. The name has an environmental connection for the team and region, as the brown pelican was taken off the endangered species list in 2009. It is Louisiana’s state bird. “We’re raising an entire generation to be very mindful to what happened to our coastal restoration,” said Rita Benson LeBlanc, the vice chairman of the board for the Hornets and the Saints. “Give it time, and I think everyone will be inspired (by the name change). It’s for a greater purpose.” What do you think of the Pelicans as a name?   Love it! Hate it! Haha, is that real?!? View Poll »
