Wale Pledges Donation To Grambling State University Football Team MMG rapper Wale is no stranger to giving back, and now he’s once again making headlines for his good deeds. Earlier this year we reported on Mr. Folarin awarding a struggling Hampton University student with at $25,000 scholarship , and now the YBF is reporting that Wale pledged a hefty donation to the Grambling State University football team while he was visiting the school to perform for their homecoming festivities. via YBF A few weeks ago, we told you about Grambling State University’s football team going on strike in response to the inferior facilites and equipment they are provided by the university. Now, rapper Wale (who attended Virginia State and Bowie State) has stepped up to the plate and gifted the football team with a much-needed donation. The “Jesus Piece” rapper (shown above with GSU students) was booked to perform at GSU’s homecoming on November 1st. And while on stage, he announced that he and his management team would be sending a check to the university for new uniforms and equipment for the football team. Kudos to Wale once again….can’t be mad at that.

Late rapper Heavy D is the subject an hour-long documentary that is set to air this Sunday. The doc, Be Inspired : The Life of Heavy D features interviews from names like Mary J. Blige to Will Smith as they rememeber their experiences with Heavy D. Queen Latifah, Brett Ratner, MC Lyte, and several other stars and family members share stories about Heavy. It will also include vintage performances. Be Inspired: The Life of Heavy D is slated to premiere this Sunday, February 26th at 11pm EST on Centric TV.

Heavy D died from a pulmonary embolism caused by deep leg vein thrombosis, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. TMZ is reporting that a pulmonary embolism — which is a blockage of one or more arteries in the lungs, most often caused by blood clots which travel from other parts of the body — was formed in Heavy’s legs. Heavy D also suffered from heart disease, which could have been a contributing factor in his death. R.I.P. Diddy, Chris Rock And Flavor Flav Pay Their Respects At Heavy D’s Wake, Rapper Being Laid To Rest Friday

The private homegoing celebration for rapper Heavy D. is being held today at Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, NY. The event, which is currently taking place was reportedly so heavily attended that fire marshalls were unable to allow everyone to enter, but numerous celebrities, including Diddy, Flavor Flav and Chris Rock were in attendance at a public wake for the rapper which was held Thursday afternoon and evening. Despite the cold weather a line of fans wishing to pay their respects formed outside the church, wrapping around the building. Heavy D, real name Dwight Arrington Myers, died of a suspected heart attack last week after the 44-year-old reportedly collapsed after walking up stairs at his Beverly Hills apartment building. He’s scheduled to be buried on Friday in a private ceremony, Diddy previously tweeted about his special connection to the dead rapper. ‘Heavy D is the person who gave me my first chance in the music industry,’ he revealed. ‘He got me my internship at Uptown. He Believed when no one else did. My Heart is Broken. Pls pray for my man Heavy D and his Family.
