On Friday, May 24, the Grammy-winning TDE rapper was presented with the key to the South Los Angeles neighborhood of Watts, his hometown. L.A. City Councilman Joe Buscaino presented the key to Rock during a public ceremony at the Nickerson Gardens Community Center, where everyone from fans to friends and family came through to show their support. Now they’re not called ‘Top Dawg’ for nothing.” He continued, “And it all started here: 5-5-2, in Nickerson Gardens in Watts. We love you, Jay Rock, for your contributions to music, culture, and, most importantly, to this community.” Not only did the rapper receive the key to the city, but the councilman then declared May 24 “Jay Rock Day” in Watts. The OG then took the mic to say his piece, where kept things simple by thanking God, his family, the TDE crew, and of course, the community that surrounds him. “To my homeboys, my homegirls: Man, I love y’all—giving me support since day one. If it weren’t for y’all, I wouldn’t be right here…And to my young boys out here that’s trying to do the music, that’s pursuing y’all’s dreams: Don’t give up, man. First, the super producer took the stage with Lil Wayne, Big Sean, Meek Mill, Jeremih, J Balvin and Lil Baby to perform their new tracks “Jealous” and “You Stay.” Khaled follows that up with another star-studded stage, performing a medley of “Just Us” with SZA, “Weather the Storm” with Meek Mill, and “Higher” with John Legend. It’s pretty common knowledge at this point that Khaled was with John Legend and Nipsey Hussle shooting a music video for their song “Higher” just a couple of days before the latter’s passing. This track and the visual for it are going to be some of the last memories we have of the late rapper, so it’s no surprise that it’s got people talking. With Khaled’s album set to drop on Friday, the producer took to social media to announce his plan for “Higher,” letting us all know that him, John Legend, and everyone else who worked on the song agreed to donate all proceeds from streaming, etc to Nipsey’s children, Emani and Kross. See You Again: Fans Are Petitioning The UK Government To Lift Their Tyler, The Creator Ban

Source: ANGELA WEISS / Getty Fans Wants The UK To End Their Ban On Tyler, The Creator Fans of Tyler, The Creator are trying to convince the U.K. government to lift their “petty” ban on the rapper. Back in 2015, the Odd Future founder was informed that he was prohibited from entering Britain for the next three to five years. According to legal documents, the decision was due to the rapper’s controversial lyrical content, specifically citing songs from the 2009  Bastard  and 2011  Goblin  projects. He was then issued a letter that referenced the country’s Home Office policy on “behaviours unacceptable in the UK”; this was a set of guidelines created in 2005 to prevent suspected terrorists from entering the country. The UK Home Office addressed the ban in the following statement: “Coming to the UK is a privilege, and we expect those who come here to respect our shared values. The Home Secretary has the power to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good or if their exclusion is justified on public policy grounds.” The decision came about a month after Tyler announced the cancelation of his Australia tour on his Twitter page. He informed fans he was banned from Oz after feminist organization Collective Shout pressured the government to deny his visa. “Now [the UK government] are just followers. Everyone is a follower, just following what other countries are doing,” Tyler told The Guardian , suggesting the UK was taking cues from Australia in their ban. “Now I’m getting treated like a terrorist. I’m bummed out because it’s like, dude, I’m not homophobic. I’ve said this since the beginning. The “hating women” thing – it’s so nuts. It’s based on things I made when I was super-young, when no one was listening [to my music].” Fast forward to today, a fan named Sam Roberts created a petition that asks the UK government to end Tyler’s ban immediately. The petition page states that the lyrics in question were “intended as adult humour” and no longer reflect the person Tyler is today, so many years later. According to the page, this petition needs to receive at least 10,000 signatures to get a reaction from the government, and at least 100,000 signatures to be considered for debate in Parliament.

“That’s Some Real Confused Hater Isht”: Drake Responds To The U.K. Grime Rapper Who Called Him A Culture Vulture

More specifically, the rapper really loves him some U.K. and they seem to love them some him, for the most part–but the feeling isn’t always mutual. Drizzy has been on his Assassination Vacation Tour for the past couple months and recently had to address an incident where a local artist called the Canadian a culture vulture. While the rapper has brought out popular British artists like J Hus, Krept & Konan and Dave throughout his different tour stops, some other U.K. artists still haven’t been feeling how Drake has been operating overseas. One U.K. grime rapper specifically, who goes by the name of Wiley, personally called Drake out on Twitter last week. Aubrey sat down with Tiffany Calvar of BBC’s 1Xtra Rap Show on Saturday and addressed Wiley’s comments, along with anyone else who might think he’s a culture vulture. “I hate that people think that, like, me being into music from these kids who are trying to make it and trying to build a name for themselves, it’s like, ‘Oh, that’s some culture vulture.’ What does that even mean?” The rapper questioned. “I don’t understand what that means. Would you rather me not acknowledge anything or support? That’s some real confused hater s**t. It is what it is. I see it a lot. I’ll never understand how supporting someone’s song or going a step further and giving someone a song, linking up, I’ll never understand how that’s not viewed as something admirable.” He continued, calling out the grime rapper by name: “It was Wiley that said that. I just said his name cause I felt like that was some goofy s**t. But yeah, I just didn’t like that.
