Colin Kaepernick Settles Lawsuit Against NFL; How Much Did He Get?

Colin Kaepernick has earned both praise and outrage for his bold, silent protest against the killing of unarmed black men. His protest also ended his NFL career. He has been a free agent since 2016. He sued the NFL for conspiring to keep him off of the field. And now that lawsuit has been settled. Attorneys Mark Geragos and Ben Meiselas released a joint statement on Friday, February 15. “For the past several months, counsel for Mr. Kaepernick and [Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid],” the statement begins. It continues: “have engaged in an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the NFL.” “As a result of those discussions,” the statement reads. “The parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances.” “The resolution of this matter is subject to a confidentiality agreement,” the statement concludes. “So there will be no further comment by any party.” This settlement is a long time coming. As you may recall, Kaepernick filed a grievance agains tthe NFL and its owners in late 2017. He accused them of colluding to keep him off of the field. Kaepernick became “controversial” in 2016 for peacefully kneeling during the anthem as a form of silent protest. But though he was protesting the murders of unarmed black men by police, who then go unpunished, some political forces made him a target. They present him and his protest as anti-American. He accuses the NFL of responding to this controversy by conspiring to sabotage his career. Eric Reid was the first to join Kaepernick’s silent protest. The NFL Player’s Association filed a similar grievance against the NFL in 2018 on Reid’s behalf. “We continuously supported Colin and Eric from the start of their protests,” the NFLPA said Friday in a statement to ESPN. The NFLPA “participated with their lawyers throughout their legal proceedings and were prepared to participate in the upcoming trial.” They did all of this “in pursuit of both truth and justice for what we believe the NFL and its clubs did to them.” “We are glad that Eric has earned a job and a new contract,” the statement concludes. “And we continue to hope that Colin gets his opportunity as well.” Fortunately, Colin Kaepernick’s misfortunes were alleyed. Nike decided to go all in, placing Kaepernick front and center on their campaign in 2018. The controversial move had avowed racists throwing away or destroying their Nike shoes. Just days ago, a store that had removed all Nike products from its shelves closed because of sales losses. Womp womp. Nike, on the other hand, saw massive sales in 2018. Their move not only supported Kaepernick when he needed it, but signaled something very affirming. Ultimately, being progressive was the more profitable move than capitulating to racists. That should be encouragement for all of us. Kaepernick has been a controversial figure for multiple reasons. To racists and others in Donald Trump’s base, he was a target because he’s a black man taking a stand for what he believes in. It’s interesting to note that the people who complain about louder, less convenient protests tend to say “protest like Dr. King would!” Their attempt to weaponize Dr. Martin Luther King is clearly empty words, since Kaepernick’s protest is as silent and peaceful as a living human can be. On the Left, Kaepernick was controversial because he did not vote in the 2016 election. Many find it difficult to imagine how someone could risk (and lose) his career for a political cause, yet refuse to do his civic duty and vote for a better world. Ultimately, though, Kaepernick is a politically significant and widely loved figure. And no, it’s not just because he’s really, really, ridiculously good-looking. It’s also not just because of his skill on the field. Kaepernick and Reid took a stand against white supremacy, against Trump, and against the NFL, which has been characterized as one of the world’s most predatory businesses. It is widely assumed that Kaepernick and Reid have made a substantial amount of money in this secret settlement. If so, good for them. However, it is unlikely that we will ever see confirmation of how much of a payout they received.

Grey’s Anatomy Recap: Is it Game Over for Amelia and Owen?

Thursday’s Grey’s Anatomy was a real tear-jerker.  Picking up in the immediate aftermath of Betty revealing she’s more of a Brittany and has been hiding from her parents, Owen and Amelia realized they needed to help out somehow.  Unfortunately for Betty, her parents showed up at the hospital. Amelia was the one to break the news about Leo.  The issue this presented was that Amelia and Owen were the ones caring for the child.  The good news was that Amelia was on hand to open up about her own struggles with addiction to Betty’s mother.  “I’m an addict, too. I did all of that. I ran away, I lied, I broke my mother’s heart over and over again,” Amelia said, adding: “When I got clean, she was the last person I wanted to see. The shame was too great. I’m sure you’re a good mom, and I promise you, your little girl is still in there.” The big mistake on Amelia’s part was that Betty’s parents decided to use that against Amelia and Owen, branding Amelia, “another drug addict.” Amelia’s actions did not sit well with Owen, either, because it meant that Betty’s parents were likely going to secure custody of the child.  Meanwhile, Bailey started to grow concerned about her future at the hospital, especially after Alex started to get a lot of recognition for his interim role.  It all came to a head when Alex’s photo was put up on the wall, and Bailey decided it was time for herself to be the one in charge again.  In a truly shocking scene, Alex admitted that he was not going to let Bailey have the job back just yet.  “I kicked this job’s ass, just like Weber told me to,” Alex said, confirming that he would be keeping the job until his six-month contract was up.  In the end, it gave Bailey the urge to say that she was proud of him. Alex has stood up for himself ever since he walked through the front door of the hospital.  He’s killing it at the job, so why should he end it so soon? Then there was Meredith, who was on the DeLuca train, but had a big problem: Maggie once dated the same man, so Meredith wanted her sister’s seal of approval before going full steam ahead.  “He’s a good guy. I don’t think he’s ever not a good guy. He’s got your back,” Maggie ultimately said to Meredith.   This came after Maggie had to perform surgery on someone who bullied her in med school.  Meredith assisted her with the surgery, but it was clear the patient had a profound effect on Maggie’s time gearing up to be a doctor.  What are your thoughts on all the action? Luann de Lesseps Ditches Probation For The Beach!

RHONY star Luann de Lesseps had one job.  Which was to complete her probation following her drunken altercation with multiple Florida police officers on December 23, 2017. Luann could have faced jail time and multiple felony charges, but fortunately, she pleaded guilty to her three misdemeanor accounts.  As part of the reasonable deal, she was given one year of probation with a lengthy yet simple list of requirements and restrictions. Ones that Luann seems to have completely ignored.  Here are most of the conditions on the list:  As reported by Starcasm.  1. Pay all applicable fines and court costs  2. Perform 50 hours of community service for any non-profit organization at a minimum of 10 hours per month  3. Attend 2 AA meetings per month  4. No possession/ no consumption of alcohol, or illegal drugs, with random testing at Defendant’s expense 5. A letter of apology to Deputy Steven O’Leary 6. Attend a victim impact class put on by Mothers Against Drunk Drivers Luann has paid all of the fines and court costs and she wrote her letter of apology to the officer before her sentencing.  It’s just the rest of the conditions she is having a hard time remembering. The Florida Department of Corrections filed a progress report last week with the update on Luanna’s rather lazy progress:  The subject was ordered to complete 50 hours of community service at a rate of 10 hours per month. Per the subject’s New York probation officer, she has only completed 25 hours.  The subject was to complete 2 AA meeting per week, per her New York probation officer she has failed to provide documentation that she is following the special condition.  Per New York, the subject is to use a soberlink device to determine the usage of alcohol and the subject has been noncompliant with the condition.  The subject has failed to complete a victim impact panel class as well.  The subject has been allowed unlimited travel and has used that as a reason to be noncompliant with her conditions of supervision.  The subject has been under supervision for a period of six months and has failed to complete or comply with any special condition that has been ordered. Despite all of Luann’s issues of noncompliance , the Florida Department of Corrections ruled that there would be “no further action required.”  Luann is allowed to continue her probation in New York, with just a smack on the wrist.  Meanwhile, the reality star shared a picture of her enjoying the beach in Miami on Tuesday.  The 53-year-old does look amazing, but does she really think strolling through the sun will fix all of her problems?  They do say salt water heals everything. Kailyn Lowry Thinks Jenelle Evans Needs to "Clean Up Her Act"

This NOT exactly just in: Kailyn Lowry and Jenelle Evans do not get along. The Teen Mom OG stars actually were kind of close at one point, but then Jenelle went behind Kailyn's back to tell the world Lowry was pregnant with her third child… … and then Jenelle's mom threatened to murder Lowry … … and, well, the relationship has been colder than Buffalo in January ever since. Where do things stand at the moment? When was the last time Kailyn tried to speak with Evans? Lowry talked with Hollywood Life this week about the (non) relationship, bringings fans up to speed on the vicious feud and revealing a few surprising tidbits. Scroll down for an update: 1. Wait, These Two Were Actually Friends? Yes. This photo was snapped in 2013, so we need to go back many years if we’re talking about a real friendship. 2. Where Did It All Go Wrong? The feud slowly but surely escalated. Eventually, Evans told the world that Kailyn was pregnant with child number-three before Lowry was ready for the world to know — and then things really spiraled. 3. How Bad Have Things Gotten? Gosh. We don’t have time to cycle through all the incidents, but Evans and her horrible husband, David Eason, filmed themselves burning items from Kailyn’s clothing collection last year after Lowry sent them as a peace offering. 4. Wait, WHAT? “Hey Kail,” Evans said in an Instagram video from late December. “This is to your peace offering.” She then proceeded to douse the pieces of attire in gasoline and take a blowtorch to them. 5. So… the Feud is Lit? Yes, literally. This is what Evans said while she set fire to Lowry’s gift: “Kail Lowry , for years you’ve been super jealous and envious of all us girls on the show. You try to make your way into the group, then turn into a mean ass person when it came down to me. You apologize on/off, claim I need to be apologizing sometimes, then talk s–t constantly about me and my husband to the tabloids?! THEN you had the balls to send me a PEACE GATHERING GIFT?! Don’t send me gifts and then go talk s–t AGAIN!!! Wow, you’re an idiot cuz this is what I do for gifts sent from fake ass bitches like you. Stay our of my life, go worry about your own.” 6. Really. Michael Jackson Musical CANCELED Amidst New Molestation Allegations!

Last month, a new Michael Jackson documentary entitled Leaving Neverland premiered at Sundance. The film captivated festival attendees, but it’s no lighthearted celebration of the King of Pop’s musical achievements. Instead, Neverland focuses on the many sexual assault allegations against Jackson. The film is set to air for a much larger audience on HBO in March, but those who have seen it already say it’s an appalling piece that brings to light new allegations, offers compelling evidence with regard to older claims, and leaves little doubt as to Jackson’s guilt. And while Jackson has yet to be re-tried in the court of public opinion, it seems the fallout has already begun for the disgraced music legend. It was announced today that a stage musical focusing on Jackson’s life and music has been postponed indefinitely. The show was scheduled to begin a run in Chicago next month before heading to Broadway. According to Radar Online, producers have told cast members and investors that they’re currently “waiting to see what happens” with regard to Jackson’s public image. However, insiders are already prepared for the possibility that the “entire thing could be scrapped.” Interestingly, Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough was initially set to compete with a different Jackson musical, scheduled to make its Broadway debut in 2020. That show was intended to have a much darker tone, addressing some of the many controversies that plagued Jackson’s life, up to and including the drug dependency that resulted in his death at age 50. However, Jackson’s family intervened and threatened to sue if those elements were not removed from the production. “The sexual abuse allegations, the plastic surgery story and even Michael’s addiction to drugs have all been cut out of the stage show,” a source tells Radar. The family attempted a similar strongarm approach to the makers of Leaving Neverland , but were rebuffed. The Jacksons have likened the film to a ” public lynching ,” but their attempts at halting its release have thus far been in vain. Sources say Michael’s mother and siblings are currently fighting to prevent the HBO release, but the odds are against him. Ryan Adams Issues Non-Apology In Response to Mandy Moore Allegations: I’m Not Perfect!

On Wednesday, the music world was shocked by reports that celebrated singer-songwriter Ryan Adams has been accused of sexual misconduct and psychological abuse by several female musicians. In a scathing report from the New York Times seven women — including Adams’ ex-wife, Mandy Moore — came forward to detail instances in which they had been harassed, threatened or manipulated by Adams. On Twitter, Adams’ tone switched from combative to almost-apologetic, as he issued a statement in which he asked forgiveness, while at the same time refusing to accept responsibility for his alleged actions. Prior to the publication of the exposé, Adams assumed a defensive posture. “F-ck you. You are kitty litter. Happy Valentine’s Day,” he tweeted alongside the Times famous logo. “Run your smear piece. But the leagel [sic] eagles see you. Rats. I’m f-cking taking you down,” Adams continued, seemingly threatening legal action against the paper. After the piece was published, however, Adams adopted a more conciliatory stance: “I am not a perfect man and I have made many mistakes,” he tweeted. “To anyone I have ever hurt, however unintentionally, I apologize deeply and unreservedly.” Possibly in reference to allegations that he sent sexually explicit photos to an aspiring musician who was in her early teens at the time (Adams was already in his forties), the singer had this to say: “But the picture that this article paints is upsettingly inaccurate. Some of its details are misrepresented; some are exaggerated; some are outright false,” he tweeted. “As someone who has always tried to spread joy through my music and my life, hearing that some people believe I caused them pain saddens me greatly. “I am resolved to work to be the best man I can be. And I wish everyone compassion, understanding and healing.” On Twitter, many were quick to point out that at no point did Adams acknowledge his victims or offer them the solace that might have come with accepting responsibility for specific actions. According to Moore and singers Phoebe Bridgers and Jaye Courtney — Adams used the promise of career success to lure his mostly much-younger victims into scenarios where they were pressured to engage in sex acts. “Music was a point of control for him,” says Moore, who adds that Adams engaged in frequent “psychologically abusive” behavior during their 6-year marriage. Barbara Evans: David Eason Is Abusing Jenelle! She’s a Prisoner!

For several months now, we've suspected that confrontations between Jenelle Evans and David Eason frequently turn violent. Jenelle's 911 call from back in October provided a harrowing insight into the couple's tumultuous and likely abusive relationship. Evans later dismissed the situation as a “drunk and dramatic misunderstanding,” but domestic violence victims are often quick to defend their abusers — a fact that Jenelle's mother, Barbara Evans, pointed out during Monday night's episode of Teen Mom 2 . In a heartbreaking scene, a tearful Babs fretted over her daughter's safety and worried that David might eventually “cost her everything.” For those in denial it served as a wakeup call — and for David's many critics, it confirmed what they've long suspected. Take a look: 1. Better Days Jenelle and David’s relationship has always been an emotional rollercoaster, but over the past year, the marriage has had far more valleys than peaks. 2. David’s Downfall It’s been almost one full year since David was fired by MTV, a development that seems to have shattered Eason’s fragile psyche. 3. Horrendous Decision On February 14, 2018, David posted a photo of Jenelle shooting a gun just hours after the world learned of the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida. 4. Making It Worse When fans encouraged him to take the photo down out of respect to the victims’ families, David attacked them with homophobic slurs. 5. Self-Destruction David has remained unemployed in the year since his firing, and despite the fact that Jenelle’s role on Teen Mom 2 provides the family’s sole means of income, he seems hellbent on getting his wife fired, too, 6. Carmen Argenziano Dies; Stargate SG-1 Actor was 75

Carmen Argenziano is a versatile, legendary actor with hundreds of acting roles under his belt. He is best known for his roles on Stargate SG-1 and in The Godfather Part II . On Sunday, Carmen passed away. He was 75 years old. Even Horizon Talent released the sad news about Carmen Argenziano with a deeply personal statement. “It is with a heavy heart and more sadness than anyone can realize right now,” the statement begins. The statement continues: “that I announce the passing of client Carmen Argenziano at the age of 75.” “His acting career began in the early 1970s and included a turn in The Godfather, Part II,” the announcement acknowledges. “Carmen worked steadily over more than 40 years,” the statement notes. “And was a staple character actor on our televisions throughout that time.” The announcement continues: “including on series such as ‘Cheers,’ ‘Melrose Place,’ ‘ER,’ ‘CSI:NY’ and many others.” Carmen did this “while also lending his talents to films both tentpole [expensive major motion picture] and intimate.” “To genre fans,” the statement continues. “He is best known for his role as Jacob Carter/Selmak on the series ‘Stargate SG-1.'” Genre is sometimes used as a euphemism for interesting media such as science fiction and fantasy. It was “a role he relished and recurred in for seven years.” “While Carmen was a client,” the announcement notes. “He was also a good friend.” “While he was a class act and a consummate gentleman at the events he was booked for,” the statement says. “He was also a caring and generous person.” “While I had known him for more than a decade,” the statement reads. It continues: “It wasn’t until the past three years as a representative for him that our trust and friendship grew and blossomed.” “He truly treated me like family,” the announcement affirms. “And that sentiment was returned.” “Please join me in sending thoughts and prayers to Carmen’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement asks. This heartbreaking announcement confirms: “Godspeed, my friend.” Carmen Argenziano had 227 IMDB credits under his belt. As the statement mentions, Carmen is best known for the twin roles of Jacob Carter and Selmak on Stargate SG-1 , which he played from 1998 to 2005. Portraying two characters sharing a body isn’t easy, but Carmen made the role very natural. He was introduced in Season 2 of the series and remained a returning character. Because Jacob Carter was the father of main character Samantha Carter (played by Amanda Tapping), Carmen appeared in 25 episodes. (That’s more than a season’s worth, and means that he appeared in nearly one out of every eight episodes of the long-running series) Ultimately, his character died in a moving episode, “Threads,” during the show’s eighth season. One often overlooked role of Carmen’s was his appearance on “Knives,” a pivotal episode of the science fiction classic  Babylon 5 . He has also appeared on murdery mysteries and in films, including Angels and Demons . More than once, he was cast to portray a priest, a role that he portrayed with dignity and nuance. Actors and fans alike are still reeling from this news. Tyler Baltierra: Everyone Wants to Dream F-ck Me!

Tyler Baltierra just learned the hard way: You really can’t have fun on the Internet. Not even when you joke about all the strangers out there who fantasize about riding your joystick in bed. Confused? Allow us to explain… The veteran Teen Mom OG cast member turned a few heads of his Twitter earlier this month when he retweeted someone who had tagged him in a rather X-rated message. It read as follows: “Last night I had a sex dream about [Tyler Baltierra] yeah… so there’s that revelation.” Weird and random, but whatever, right? It’s still flattering! And Tyler basically responded as such. “Dude I swear, I see posts from people about having sex dreams with me at least once a day hahaha!” he Tweeted. “Apparently I’ve been getting around in the dreamworld.” This seems like a totally normal and harmless response. But try telling that to some folks on the World Wide Web. “This is so inappropriate, as a married man to post,” wrote one troll, somehow thinking Tyler was betraying wife Catelynn by simply noting that a bunch of folks out there evidently fantasize about his naked body. Tyler snapped back at this individual as follows: I told @CatelynnLowell about it & you will NEVER believe what she did!? She laughed her ass off! I know, I know, it’s gotta be shocking to everyone that we can joke with each other about such “sensitive” issues lol! Especially as sensitive as one’s inability to control dreams. Well said, dude. This was/is perhaps a sensitive topic for Tyler because he recently requested a 30-day break from his marriage. Many people interpreted this as meaning Tyler wanted to sleep around, prompting an angry reply from Baltierra. “When you say ‘separation,’ everyone’s like, ‘Oh my god, a separation?” It’s not like we’re seeing other people or we’re not talking at all or not spending time with each other,” Tyler previously told Us Weekly about his quasi, temporary split from Catelynn. Tyler’s own father actually asked his son a short while ago when he wanted to take a hiatus because he wanted to have sex with a new woman. And this belief clearly bothers Tyler a lot. “The main goal is to stay with my wife and live this life,” Tyler insisted in this same Us Weekly interview. He added at the time: “We love each other. It’s crazy because when you do grow up with each other, no one can really understand the bond. There is no explanation for it. “It’s hard for people like my dad, who’s been in prison his whole life and never really had a serious adult relationship, to relate. It’s different.” Thankfully, Tyler will soon have something gorgeous and miraculous to distract him from annoying people such as the one above on Twitter: He and Catelynn are welcoming a little girl soon. Cardi B Pays Tribute To Mac Miller & Family After Beating Him For Best Rap Album!

Cardi B paid her respects to Mac Miller after beating him for Best Rap Album Sunday night at the Grammys.  Which is surprisingly the only category the late rapper has ever been nominated in.  Cardi won her first Grammy for Invasion of Privacy a nd even though Mac was not mentioned in her acceptance speech, she made sure to send him and his family some love later on backstage.  After Cardi beat out her male competition – Mac Miller, Travis Scott, Pusha T, and Nipsey Hustle – she filmed a video of her giving a shout out to Mac and his family, who was invited to the award show in hopes of a win.  “I read an article that Mac Miller’s family said that if he don’t win, they want me to win, so I’m sharing this Grammy with you, motherf-ker! Rest in Peace!” Cardi yelled in a video while celebrating the win.  Cardi B: Shout Out to Mac Miller! She also posted a screenshot of the article, published by Us Weekly,  captioning the photo “WE WON A F-KIN GRAMMY.” But, before these shout-outs were made, Ariana Grande tweeted and deleted some shade at Cardi when she saw her late ex-boyfriend’s Grammy loss live from her couch .  Tweeting “trash, f-ck, and literal bullsh-t.” She also posted a response to a fan that said “THEY INVITED HIS PARENTS OUT.
