Idris Elba is playing the black superman in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw as Brixton Lore but for a long time, he was rumored to be the black James Bonds. Recently it was reported that Captain Marvel star: Lashana Lynch will take on the role as 007, although not James Bond, but for years people thought of Idris for black 007. So when I sat down with him I asked him about his attachment to the role as well as the great opportunity for Lashana Lynch. Idris commented, “It was never tied to me, this the crazy thing it was never tied to me, there was a big rumor, I think people wanted to put into the ether and it just ran with it. I egged it on here and there just as a joke, but it was never tied to me. I’m very excited for Lashana, that she got it. It’s amazing. I think that’s the sign of the times.” In Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, Idris plays a genetically enhanced being named Brixton who wants to get his hand on a virus that can wipe out every weak human being and create a world of superhumans. On this week’s Episode of Extra Butter with Xilla Valentine we discuss what Idris’ superpower would be as well as his fatherhood techniques with his daughter. Be on the lookout for more interviews with the Hobbs and Shaw cast and congratulations to Lashana Lynch on becoming 007. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw is in theaters everywhere August 2nd, 2019.
Source: Michael Buckner/Getty Images for NAACP / Getty Tyra Banks Talks Investing, “Next Top Model” And Naomi Campbell Tyra Banks retreads some old territory and new ground in a recent interview that visits both her success as co-creator of “America’s Next Top Model” as well as being tested in her early career by one of her very own inspirations — Naomi Campbell. Watch the interview below. The Naomi part comes in at around the 11 minute mark. “It wasn’t a rivalry,” Banks told the Wall Street Journal. “And I’m very sensitive to that word because a rivalry is with two equals to me, where one was very dominant. She was a supermodel and I was just some new girl that got on a plane from Paris and was studying fashion in magazines at a fashion library.” “I had a very painful early days in Paris. As much as I was booking every single fashion show, people didn’t know I was going home at night crying my eyes out because a woman I was looking up to seemed like she just didn’t want me to be there,” Banks said. “And was doing everything in her power to make me go away.” She continued, “I didn’t understand that as a young girl, like why is she doing this? This is so evil. This is so awful. The adult me understands that she was reacting to an industry that was all about a token. When I came on the scene, ‘Naomi look out, there’s another Black girl that’s going to take your spot.’” Banks and Campbell famously made their peace back in 2005 on Tyra’s talk show. Tyra seems like she let Naomi kinda off the hook for her personal behavior with that token excuse. Would you do the same? Do you think she should be done talking about this issue or is it her story to tell as many times as she wants?
Source: Focus Features / Focus Features Over two years ago, we reported that Cynthia Erivo would take on the role of Harriet Tubman in a new film. Since then, there were questions about whether or not Erivo should take on such an iconic American figure not only because she was raised in the United Kingdom, without a lineage of slavery in her past, there was also her support of Luvvie Ajayi in the midst of a controversy that left many Black people with the sense that Ajayi didn’t respect Black culture. And if one doesn’t have the utmost respect for American Black culture, portraying one of our greatest legends should come with questions. Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Close Thank you for subscribing! View this post on Instagram I struggled a little with whether or not to post anything about this role, because even though there is so much celebration and encouragement coming through, there’s also anger and offense spurred on by my being from the UK…..I guess there is a bigger conversation to be had about heritage and experience, also about who Harriet really was. That can not be had in an Instagram post, what I will say is that my journey to this woman has been long and detailed and one I have not taken lightly. Nothing has been given to me without me first putting the work in, people speak of foreign privilege and truthfully life would be unbelievably easy if that were applied to me but that is not my portion. I fought for the role of Celie, and spilled blood sweat and tears playing her, the same applies for every role I’ve earned, this will be no different. I hope that I do everyone, even those who are in doubt or are upset, proud. I hope I quell your fears, because I understand that is what it is. I cannot tell how protective I am of this woman and her story. I posted this because I cannot allow people to make me neglect to celebrate this honor. This story has gone unnoted for long enough and @debramchase Daniela Taplin and @focusfeatures are the perfect home the beautiful way Kasi Lemmons has told this story is more than a blessing. I am glad to be given the opportunity to bring the life of Harriet Tubman to you. I would be lying if I didn’t make it clear that this is scary, and I thank you in advance for the support. Source: Splash News / Splash News The Internet will not let stuff die, and this was proven once again when conversations around The Lion King turned into a revisiting of the Japanese anime Kimba the White Lion. The similarities are uncanny. Disney needs to speak up about this. I still love both #Kimba and #LionKing but it's just that Disney needs to admit that they were “inspired” by Kimba. pic.twitter.com/0HYMwvO51F — Crispyr (@Crispyr4) July 23, 2019 According to The Hollywood Reporter , Kimba was an animated series that aired in the 1960s and it was based on the 1950 manga Jungle Emperor created by Osamu Tezuka. Now Tezuka wasn’t just some low-level employee who did storyboards for a B-level animation studio. Tezuka, who died in 1989, is literally considered the father of manga (Japanese comics) and some have even christened him the Walt Disney of Japan (well, him and another animation great, Hayao Miyazaki ). So when The Lion King came out in 1994 claiming to be an original story, certain folks couldn’t help but notice similarities between the Disney flick and Kimba . Although Kimba has more themes dealing with animals and human interactions, both Kimba and The Lion King are coming-of-age stories focused on an African lion cub whose father was killed in the first act. Even if Kimba had different storylines, the series had similar characters to The Lion King , including a villain with a Black mane and a scar-like eye and a bird who served as the voice of reason to the lion cub. Check out more similarities for yourself below. I meeeean…. Both animations are very similar-like. Disney representatives have repeatedly said that they didn’t rip Kimba off to make The Lion King and at one point, the co-director for 1994’s The Lion King , Rob Minkoff told the Times : “Frankly, I’m not familiar with [the TV series]. I know for a fact that [ Kimba ] has never been discussed as long as I’ve been on the project.” A screenwriter on The Lion King , Linda Woolverton added, “This is the first I’ve heard of Kimba or Tezuka. I never heard anything or saw anything about his work.” Welp, that’s that, right? Nope. Hit the flip for incidents that followed that’ll have you questioning whether The Lion King might have taken more than enough inspiration from Kimba.

Source: Red Music / Red Music According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram , a Tarrant County court jury has sentenced Tay-K to 55 years in prison after he was found guilty of one count of murder in the death of Ethan Walker and pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated robbery. Tay-K, real name Taymor McIntyre was found guilty on the murder charge on July 19. During his trial, prosecutors referenced to his music video for “The Race,” a track which made the rapper a rising star and a controversial figure all the same. The victim, Ethan Walker, was shot and killed during a July 2016 home invasion involving Tay-K and six other individuals. Tay-K subsequently was arrested after the incident and placed on house arrest. However, he and a codefendant, Jalen Bell, cut their ankle monitors and fled authorities, leading to a nationwide manhunt. The video for “The Race” was filmed as the Arlington rapper evaded authorities. He still faces a number of charges for other crimes such as the murder of 23-year-old Mark Anthony Saldivar in a Chick-Fil-A parking lot in San Antonio as well as an assault of 65-year-old Skip Pepe in Arlington’s Cravens Park. Remember when reality shows were an hour long and the typical season lasted about 8-10 episodes? Well, you can blame it on any number of factors — every series now has to compete with 47,000 other shows, reality TV is insanely cheap to produce, our current pop cultural landscape tends to favor quantity of content over quality — but for whatever reason, those days are done. However, that’s just one reason Hannah Brown’s Bachelorette finale will clock in at a whopping four hours! Yes, like Colton Underwood before her, Hannah will tell us her tale of love, heartbreak, and Luke P being a total dickwad (okay, that part is unique to her) over the course of two nights. The first two-hour episode will air on Monday, July 29, with the second airing the very next night. It’s a little strange, since Luke P. was finally kicked off last night, and TV seasons don’t usually continue for another four hours after the villain has been slain. But for as much as Luke dominated the show this season, there’s still a lot of drama to be sorted out that has nothing to do with everyone’s least-favorite 5’8″ bad guy. For example — we came to find out a lot of these dudes had girlfriends waiting for them back home. And two of the cheaters made it into Hannah’s top three. This is the part where we warn you that if you haven’t been keeping up on our Bachelorette spoilers , and you want to be surprised by how this all plays out, read no further. Okay, for starters, in the first half of the finale that will air on Monday night (the part that was filmed several months ago) Hannah gives her final rose to Jed , and the two of them get engaged. Yes, there were initial reports that Hannah got engaged to Tyler Cameron , which seems to be the outcome most viewers would’ve preferred, but those claims have since been disproven. Sorry. And there’s more bad news, as Jed’s proposal has not resulted in a “happily ever after” scenario. In fact, it seems there’s been constant drama for Hannah and Jed ever since he popped the question. It all started when we learned that Jed had a girlfriend while he was filming the show. ( So did Peter Weber , by the way, so we guess Tyler really was the only good choice in Hannah’s final four.) Anyway, Hannah was understandably less than thrilled by the news that her fiance — the one she picked from a field of 30! — was two-timing her for the early part of their relationship. And now, spoiler master Reality Steve has confirmed that Jed and Hannah are no longer engaged: “I can confirm that Hannah broke off her engagement to Jed earlier this week,” Steve wrote. “They are still ‘together,’ but the engagement is off. This isn’t a ‘don’t ever talk to me again’ from what I’m being told, but it’s also not all rainbows and daffodils either …” He later tweeted: “To end an engagement means Hannah has been bothered enough by what’s come out. “I don’t see how Jed gets back in her good graces after this. Nor should he. This is something she will be, and should be, applauded for, I just don’t see them working thru this.” Sounds like all is not well on the Jed and Hannah front. So what exactly is in store for Tuesday’s live portion of the finale? Well, have you ever watched a couple argue for hours knowing full well they’re about to break up? Yeah, based on Chris Harrison’s comments, we’re expecting something like that: “There’s a lot of rumors. There’s a lot of things being said,” Harrison said in a recent interview. “It’s live, and I love going into a show not knowing how it’s really going to turn out. I want to hear Jed’s side of the story,” he added. “I think a lot of people have spoken, and before we judge — which we’re so quick to do on Twitter — I would like to hear from him.” Our prediction? Hannah Beast — who’s been enjoying her unexpected status as a feminist icon ever since she roasted Luke P. for slut-shaming her — will kick cheating Jed to the curb as a studio audience cheers her on. Or maybe she forgives him on live TV. Either way, there should be plenty of drama — and hopefully, none of it will involve Luke P. Source: Daniel Allan / Getty Mississippi House Candidate Murders Wife, Commits Suicide A Mississippi state legislature candidate, Carl Robinson, casually walked into his wife’s job at a medical clinic, produced a firearm, fatally shot her, then committed suicide according to Yahoo! News . Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson says that Robinson was served divorce papers Tuesday morning before murdering LaToya Thompson that same morning. Robinson was running for a District 5 House seat that includes parts of Benton, Marshall, Lafayette and Tate counties. He was on the ballot for the Aug. 6 primary election. By all accounts, Carl and LaToya were the “perfect couple” but there was clearly something dark and secretive lying beneath the surface. Tina Bills Herrington, a cousin of Robinson, said that he was the ultimate family man and that Thompson was a very kind person. “He was a great provider for his family, making sure that they didn’t go without,” Herrington said. “LaToya was very calm spirited and wanted to serve her family.” This is craziness. RIP to LaToya Thompson, Hell awaits for Carl Robinson. SMFH.
