Bryan Tanaka: I Love Mariah Carey So Much!

For several months, Mariah Carey thought James Packer would always be her baby. The singer seemingly possessed an endless love for the billionaire businessman. But then she and her fiance called off their relationship, acknowledging that their one sweet wedding day would never take place, and Carey went off in search of a new hero. It didn’t take her long to find one. Indeed… if all Mariah Carey wants for Christmas is an attractive man to call her own, then she’s clearly found one in choreographer Bryan Tanaka.  Song lyric puns aside, there is no longer anything to debate. There are no rumors surrounding Carey and Tanaka, no innuendo of any kind. They are simply together , mere weeks after Carey split from Packer. Late last month, witnesses confirmed that Carey and Tanaka were all over each other in Hawaii. There was kissing. There was groping. There were public displays of affection across the board. “They swam in the ocean and he picked her up to kiss her,” an onlooker told Us Weekly, adding in detail: “She was jumping into his arms, and he bent her back over his knee like they were dancing. Then they walked on the beach holding hands, and he gave her a piggyback ride. “They had a lot of fun together, and were very playful.” Fast forward about a week and E! News chatted with Tanaka at a premiere party in honor of Mariah’s World, the new reality show that debuted last night on E!. And the dancer wasn’t exactly shy when it came to his feelings for Mariah. “I’ve always had a thing for Mariah. I love her so much,” Tanaka said at the New York City-based party. He then toed the company and network line perfectly, teasing new episodes to come: “Just make sure you tune in to the show and you’ll see kind of how everything happens.” You can use the video below to watch Mariah’s World online right now in order to catch up on the pilot. It was every bit as absurd and scripted as you’d imagine it to be… Watch Mariah’s World Season 1 Episode 1 Online “We’ve been friends for a long time,” Tanaka added at the bash. “I do a little dance move here and there and we have a good time. It will be fun.” A cynical person might say this relationship is simply contrived for the sake of ratings and storylines. But Tanaka swears that it’s real and special. “Something connected with us back in the day and there was just a mutual admiration,” Tanaka says. “She saw something in me that I actually didn’t recognize at first, from that it was over. It was set in history that we were gonna be connected some way, some how.” Remember: Carey was engaged as recently as two months ago! So these two may want to slow down, out of respect for James Packer at the very least. View Slideshow: Mariah Carey on Watch What Happens Live: What Did We Learn? Not that we can blame Carey is this romance really is the real thing. Did you see that photo of Bryan Tanaka above? Did you see those abs?!? Go get it, girl.

Bana Alabed: 7-Year-Old Aleppo Girl Tweets Farewell Message, Is Feared Captured

Bana Alabed, a 7-year-old girl who used Twitter to chronicle the horrors of the civil war in Syria, appears to have been captured by forces loyal to the regime of Bashar Al-Assad. With the help of her mother, Fatemah, Bana updated her hundreds of thousands of followers with heartbreaking tweets about the escalating humanitarian crisis in the city of Aleppo. In the past 24 hours, Fatemah posted two tweets that have led to concerns that the family has been removed from their home: “We are sure the army is capturing us now. We will see each other another day dear world. Bye,” reads a tweet posted late Sunday night. Shortly thereafter, Bana’s account was shut down. It re-appeared this morning, and just hours ago, her mother posted the following tweet: “We are sure the army is capturing us now. We will see each other another day dear world. Bye.” The location of Bana and her family is currently unknown, but the BBC is reporting that all members “are safe.” Many remain skeptical and will continue to fear for the Alabeds until they are able to offer an update themselves. Bana first gained international attention several months ago, when multiple media outlets reported on her shocking and eye-opening tweets about the horrors of life in Aleppo. Her family’s situation has become increasingly dire, and she’s continued to offer updates that help to put a face on the daily tragedies taking place in one of Syria’s largest cities. On November 27, she reported that her family’s home had been destroyed by bombing: “Tonight we have no house, it’s bombed and I got in rubble. I saw deaths and I almost died,” Bana tweeted. Along with the Aleppo boy who became a symbol of the city’s nightmarish conditions after he was photographed being pulled from the rubble of a bombed building, Bana gave a voice to the thousands of Syrian children displaced by war. Her tweets have gained the attention of celebrities like J.K. Rowling, who sent Bana a full set of Harry Potter e-books after the girl tweeted that she reads in order to “forget the war.” Omran Daqneesh: Photo of Aleppo Boy Stuns World On Twitter today, thousands are sending thoughts and prayers to Bana and her family. We’ll have further updates on this story as more information becomes available.

Must Watch: “13th” Is Ava Duvernay’s Chilling New Netflix Documentary On Mass Incarceration [Video]

Ava Duvernay Documentary Shines Light On How Prison System Is Legal Slavery If you didn’t already know — the 13th Amendment just changed slavery from one form to another. This ish is so deep. THIS needs to be MANDATORY VIEWING for ignorant people of all races to watch and learn. Here’s the Netflix description: The title of Ava DuVernay’s extraordinary and galvanizing documentary 13TH refers to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.” The progression from that second qualifying clause to the horrors of mass criminalization and the sprawling American prison industry is laid out by DuVernay with bracing lucidity. With a potent mixture of archival footage and testimony from a dazzling array of activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated women and men, DuVernay creates a work of grand historical synthesis.

REVIEW: Sylvain Chomet Conjures a Toon-Deaf Illusionist

The big drag about modern animation is the perception — which seems to be growing more prevalent rather than less — that it’s somehow better when it’s “good for you.” In the old days, anvils were dropped remorselessly on coyote heads and Popeye, under his breath, swore like a sailor (natch). Now we have Wall-E blinking out sad, cautionary tales about the horrors of environmental waste (or of simply getting too fat to leave your armchair), or wildly scripted tales, like those of Hayao Miyazaki, that follow the kind of noodly dream logic you might see in experimental film — this is serious stuff, with heavy-duty art-gallery weight. Much of modern animation is technically very beautiful. But what if the story being told leaves you wanting? To say you don’t like these so-called serious, not-just-for-kids animated movies has become something of a cutural offense, apparent proof of your coldness as a human being.

Movieline Scorecard: Human Centipede Vs. Captain EO

On Friday, as you may remember (or as you may not remember, if you quickly pushed the experience out of your mind to protect your mental well-being), I liveblogged a Very Special On Demand Viewing of The Human Centipede , so that any curious-but-potentially-squeamish readers could get a sense of whether or not they might want to subject themselves to the horrors of the moment’s most buzzed-about human/insect hybrid how-to film. As chance would have it, I followed up my afternoon Centipede screening with a night trip to Disneyland, where I placed myself in the thrall of yet another unspeakable cinematic abomination: the Magic Kingdom’s Captain EO Tribute, an attraction hastily revived following the death of embattled (but still generally beloved) star Michael Jackson. Surviving this unprecedented double-feature demands some kind of analytical reckoning, and so we’ve pitted the two in a point-by-point deathmatch to determine the superior work of art. Which will prevail? Let’s find out.
