Bret Michaels In Critical Condition With Brain Hemorrhage

Poison singer reportedly rushed to hospital late Thursday night. By James Montgomery Bret Michaels Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Late Thursday night, rocker Bret Michaels was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where doctors discovered he had suffered a massive brain hemorrhage, People magazine is reporting. Michaels, 47, is currently in critical condition. A source told People that he was first taken to the hospital after complaining of “an excruciating headache,” and upon examination, doctors learned he had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, or bleeding at the base of his brain stem. “After several CAT scans, MRIs and an angiogram, [doctors] decided to keep Michaels in the ICU and are running several tests to determine the cause [of the hemorrhage],” the source told People. “[It] will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation.” MTV News’ e-mails to Michaels’ reps were not answered by press time. Earlier this month, Michaels — who is also diabetic — was admitted to a hospital in San Antonio with what he believed was a stomach flu, but doctors diagnosed him with acute appendicitis and rushed him into emergency surgery . Following the procedure, his spokesperson said Michaels was “doing well and beginning the recovery process.” Michaels remained in the hospital under his doctor’s care and then was transferred to a rehabilitation facility that specializes in diabetic patients. While in recovery, he wrote a note to his fans thanking them for their support and expressed his desire to return to the current season of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” which he is still in the running to win. A statement posted Wednesday on Michaels’ website once again thanked fans for their well wishes and said that he was rescheduling the shows he was forced to cancel after undergoing the appendectomy. Solar Details Guru’s Health Decline

Gang Starr MC’s collaborator says he helped his friend ‘preserve his dignity’ during his last days. By Shaheem Reid Solar Photo: MTV News As questions about the sincerity of his relationship with Guru continue to circulate throughout the hip-hop community and on the Internet, the Gang Starr MC’s longtime collaborator Solar has opened up about the bond between the two men. “The friendship got close fairly rapidly,” Solar told MTV’s Sway of their meeting in 2002 through a mutual friend. When the trailblazing legend fell ill in early 2009, it was Solar who was appointed medical proxy. Guru died Monday at age 43, after succumbing to a cancer-related illness. Solar said Guru’s health started to drastically deteriorate beginning last summer. In May 2009, the rapper was diagnosed with a myeloma (a tumor), and by that July, he had undergone an unsuccessful operation to stop its spread from his back to other parts of his body. “There were times where I’d help him out,” Solar said. “Get his bathing together, get his self together. Help him with his clothes. Help him out with his food. I would help him get in and out [of the bathtub]. With the myeloma, it’s very delicate. So I would help him get in and out, make sure he could stabilize himself so he could do what he had to do. It’s one of the hardest things I had to do. But I loved him as a brother, and I believe he would have done the same for me. I did that to preserve his dignity, that’s what it was even in those times. “It was getting bad,” Solar said of the months that followed the failed surgery. “His mobility was starting to worsen. I was staying in his home with him to help him with his day-to-day. … We did have people from outside come in as well to help out. Doctors and specialists that were treating him recommended he admit himself [to] the hospital for treatment. … He checked himself in the hospital … signed the appropriate documents that we would be his health proxy. He proceeded to undergo treatment, got to the point of chemotherapy. He was responding. At that point, we didn’t think he wouldn’t come out. We thought he would come back out the hospital and be actually able to get back to some independent life again. The doctors were fairly optimistic that the chemo would work and some other drugs they were giving would work. That’s when the unfortunate event of the cardiac arrest happened. The lungs couldn’t take it.” Guru agreed to go to the hospital last February and, tragically, never came out. In the days since his death, many journalists, fans, MCs and even family members have questioned the sincerity of Guru’s relationship with Solar . However, Solar has maintained that he always has done what was in Guru’s best interest. Share your memories of Guru and Gang Starr in the comments below. Dita Von Teese Stupid Outfit of the Day

I don’t find Dita Von Teese hot. I never did. Not even when she was dildo fucking on video back when she was nothing but an internet star, before Burlesque made a comeback, because fat and ugly girls apparently want the opportunity to feel sexy too and before the internet star became known outside of the internet thanks to Playboy, giving bitch a long lasting career pretending she’s a Vampire from the 1940s. I do find this outfit hysterical, it’s some clown shit, I’m talking Patch Adams shit, I hope she’s on her way to the hospital to help dying kids realize dying is no so bad cuz people like this exist in the world and make a career off it and had no choice but to post it. A Surgeon Accidentally Cut Off Patient’s Testicle

Dr. Sulieman Al Hourani was supposed to cut out a cyst but instead, he had accidentally removed the whole right testicle of a patient. Dr. Al Hourani was just a locum surgeon at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Greater Manchester, during the time of the surgery in September 2007. The surgeon is accused of misconduct over the error he committed and faces further charges of injecting himself with a drug which is supposedly meant for a patient and also stealing medications. According to Sarah Prichard, counsel for the GMC opening the hearing, said that a man, only known as patient A, had gone into the hospital for an operation where a cyst has to be removed on September 05, 2007. Patient A was the first patient of the day and in his medical notes, it was perfectly clear that the procedure was to be “excision of right cyst.” In addition, Ms. Prichard said that the theatre staff will reveal to the panel their impression of what happened during the surgery. Dr. Al Hourani had mistakenly removed the testicle rather than the cyst. During the operation, staff had no discussion raised by Dr. Al Hourani in the procedure as to why he was changing from excision of a cyst to removal of a testicle. Ms. Prichard stated that the mistake was committed when one nurse who was helping the surgeon turned her back to get a transfixion stitch and when she turned around the testicle was removed. The hearing which was scheduled to last for three weeks was adjourned until this morning. A Surgeon Accidentally Cut Off Patient’s Testicle is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Obama Orders Visitation Rights for Same Sex Couples

Via Washington Post “President Obama on Thursday signed a memorandum requiring hospitals to allow gays and lesbians to have non-family visitors and to grant their partners medical power of attorney. The president ordered the Department of Health and Human Services to prohibit discrimination in hospital visitation. The memo is scheduled to be made public Friday morning, according to an administration official and another source familiar with the White House decision. An official said the new rule will affect any hospital that receives Medicare or Medicaid funding.” In the memo the President said “Every day, all across America, patients are denied the kindnesses and caring of a loved one at their sides whether in a sudden medical emergency or a prolonged hospital stay.” UPDATE: On Anderson Cooper 360, Janice Langbehn discussed how her story inspired the White House to make this order. Langbehn received a call from President Obama today, who apologized for the ordeal that she had gone through at a Jackson, Florida hospital. She was denied access to her partner her, despite having power of attorney and other legal documents that should have granted her medical access. Langbehn's was not allowed to see her partner until just moments before her death. Langbehn says that Lisa, her partner's death, “was not in vain.” She appreciates the apology from President Obama despite not having received an apology from the hospital, which announced this week that they have changed their access policy to include LGBT families. The Human Rights Campaign, a lobby group that specializes in LGBT issues has stated that they have been “working on the request––” with the White House “for months.” Full Body of the Memorandum: MEMORANDUM FOR THE SECRETARY OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES SUBJECT: Respecting the Rights of Hospital Patients to Receive Visitors and to Designate Surrogate Decision Makers for Medical Emergencies There are few moments in our lives that call for greater compassion and companionship than when a loved one is admitted to the hospital. In these hours of need and moments of pain and anxiety, all of us would hope to have a hand to hold, a shoulder on which to lean — a loved one to be there for us, as we would be there for them. Yet every day, all across America, patients are denied the kindnesses and caring of a loved one at their sides — whether in a sudden medical emergency or a prolonged hospital stay. Often, a widow or widower with no children is denied the support and comfort of a good friend. Members of religious orders are sometimes unable to choose someone other than an immediate family member to visit them and make medical decisions on their behalf. Also uniquely affected are gay and lesbian Americans who are often barred from the bedsides of the partners with whom they may have spent decades of their lives — unable to be there for the person they love, and unable to act as a legal surrogate if their partner is incapacitated. For all of these Americans, the failure to have their wishes respected concerning who may visit them or make medical decisions on their behalf has real consequences. It means that doctors and nurses do not always have the best information about patients' medications and medical histories and that friends and certain family members are unable to serve as intermediaries to help communicate patients' needs. It means that a stressful and at times terrifying experience for patients is senselessly compounded by indignity and unfairness. And it means that all too often, people are made to suffer or even to pass away alone, denied the comfort of companionship in their final moments while a loved one is left worrying and pacing down the hall. Many States have taken steps to try to put an end to these problems. North Carolina recently amended its Patients' Bill of Rights to give each patient “the right to designate visitors who shall receive the same visitation privileges as the patient's immediate family members, regardless of whether the visitors are legally related to the patient” — a right that applies in every hospital in the State. Delaware, Nebraska, and Minnesota have adopted similar laws. My Administration can expand on these important steps to ensure that patients can receive compassionate care and equal treatment during their hospital stays. By this memorandum, I request that you take the following steps: 1. Initiate appropriate rulemaking, pursuant to your authority under 42 U.S.C. 1395x and other relevant provisions of law, to ensure that hospitals that participate in Medicare or Medicaid respect the rights of patients to designate visitors. It should be made clear that designated visitors, including individuals designated by legally valid advance directives (such as durable powers of attorney and health care proxies), should enjoy visitation privileges that are no more restrictive than those that immediate family members enjoy. You should also provide that participating hospitals may not deny visitation privileges on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. The rulemaking should take into account the need for hospitals to restrict visitation in medically appropriate circumstances as well as the clinical decisions that medical professionals make about a patient's care or treatment. 2. Ensure that all hospitals participating in Medicare or Medicaid are in full compliance with regulations, codified at 42 CFR 482.13 and 42 CFR 489.102(a), promulgated to guarantee that all patients' advance directives, such as durable powers of attorney and health care proxies, are respected, and that patients' representatives otherwise have the right to make informed decisions regarding patients' care. Additionally, I request that you issue new guidelines, pursuant to your authority under 42 U.S.C. 1395cc and other relevant provisions of law, and provide technical assistance on how hospitals participating in Medicare or Medicaid can best comply with the regulations and take any additional appropriate measures to fully enforce the regulations. 3. Provide additional recommendations to me, within 180 days of the date of this memorandum, on actions the Department of Health and Human Services can take to address hospital visitation, medical decisionmaking, or other health care issues that affect LGBT patients and their families. This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person. You are hereby authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register.
