‘I’m proud of my butt, but I don’t think I’m gonna be showing it in any music videos,’ season seven ‘American Idol’ winner says. By Jim Cantiello David Cook in “The Last Goodbye” video Photo: RCA David Cook says farewell to a dysfunctional romance in his latest single, “The Last Goodbye,” but he did not say au revoir to his pants during the filming of the music video, even if it might look that way. A group of hawkeyed fans thought they had spotted a silly (and bottomless) Easter egg as the season seven “American Idol” champ runs up a flight of stairs in the video. Had the rocker jokingly dropped trou for one take, and had the director actually included a few frames of Cook’s nekkidness as a blink-and-you-miss-it in-joke? “I promise, it’s the light coming up from the stairwell,” Cook recently told MTV News, adding, “I’m proud of my butt, but I don’t think I’m gonna be showing it in any music videos.” In fact, the only real blooper from the two-day Malibu video shoot was left on the cutting-room floor. “I tried to jump over [a] wave and I got pummeled. So you see this wave and then if they continued the shot, next thing you know, I’m like 10 feet back sitting on my ass ’cause I got nailed by that wave. It was ridiculous,” Cook admitted. The clip — the first from his sophomore 19 Recordings/RCA Records album, This Loud Morning, out June 28 — shows David heading to the beach to write “The Last Goodbye.” (In real life, the platinum-selling star penned the tune with Ryan Tedder.) Cook explains, “I’m actually absent-minded in real life. I commonly forget things. So [in the video my] wallet falls out of the pocket, and I end up leaving my stuff on the beach and then go back to the hotel to finish the song. Meanwhile, [a stranger finds] my stuff and thinks that I’ve drowned somehow. And hilarity ensues.” Cook was elated to work with veteran director Nigel Dick, who was way more open to collaboration than one might expect given his iconic videography. (He directed some of the biggest spots for Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Tears for Fears, Guns N’ Roses and countless others). “In the original [treatment], I was in on the joke. And I was like, ‘Well, that seems a little self-important.’ So we tried to swing it around and make it more like I’m just kind of dimwitted,” Cook said. Dick even used David’s idea for an ending, where drummer Kyle Peek passes out upon seeing the presumed-dead rocker in the flesh. “I was proud of his passing-out ability,” Cook declared. “If there’s an Oscar for music videos, boom, nailed it.” It was a different story for bass player Monty Anderson. “I was like, ‘Mont, you gotta sell it. You gotta pretend,’ ” Cook said before imitating Anderson’s high-pitched Southern drawl, ” ‘Well, man, I can’t pretend! You’re right here!’ He tried so hard, bless his heart. My name is Grace, and attending Justin Bieber’s Concert late last year was probably the best day of my life. I tried so hard to meet Justin, I didn’t get the chance to, but it was still an incredible day. It all started when my two friends and I got 12th row seats on the floor for general price! We were so excited, and for months all we could do was talk about and plan for the concert. We made purple capes with ‘JB’s on them, made 3 posters, and left to go find his hotel. When we finally tracked down where the crew was staying, we met JB’s light guy, that was pretty funny (he told us he would make sure JB was glowing for us haha) & then we ran around the entire night looking for Justin, Scooter, Ryan, anyone from his crew…but sadly we were unsuccessful. The best part was going to the front desk and asking for Chandler Bing (he sometimes uses that name at hotels, but that was a fail). The next day we left school early to get ready for the concert & waited outside the venue around where the tour buses come in in hopes of meeting someone. Everyone makes it look so easy, but for some reason we didn’t seem to meet anyone from JB’s crew. But Alex Burnham came out! He was adorable. After 4 hours of standing in the cold, we went in to the concert and it was the BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE! Afterwards we ran outside to watch the tour buses leave and met MICHAEL VARGAS! He was soo nice and we didn’t meet anyone else so we decided to leave. This Bieber Experience is for those of you who Never Say Never and haven’t gotten a chance yet. It’s for those of you who read these amazing experiences and wish you could have one too. But don’t give up, Justin never did! I will continue to try my hardest to meet him and so should you. He inspires me so much, people even make fun of my sister just because she likes him, but we are waiting for our chance to prove them wrong and show them what you can do by Never Saying Never! I’m so glad I can finally write My Own Bieber Experience. Justin Bieber is truly an amazing human being, he is my inspiration and I will love him until my heart stops beating, wait I joke, even till after that. First of all, my name is Marisa. I live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and I’m an admin of Justin Bieber Malaysia http://www.facebook.com/JustinBieberMalaysia . So anyway, it was the 21 st of April 2011, the day Justin Bieber was performing live here in my country. I couldn’t believe it, I was running back and forth when I woke up in the morning. I had to be at the stadium before 4pm for the meet and greets, so I went about 3.30 and hell, it was packed. At 4, I got my passes to meet Justin. I was holding it tight and my legs wouldn’t stop shaking. After a while, it was time, I went in with my friend, Clara who’s also an admin of Justin Bieber Malaysia and we were walking backstage in the rain and everyone was soaking wet. The worst thing was I had to pee real bad, I guess it was because I was nervous. As we walked backstage, we passed a room that said ‘MEET AND GREET’, my heart totally felt like jumping out. We all went into the room opposite the meet and greet to hear the rules and stuff then group 1 was good to go. I was in group 2 with Clara and I was going to meet my inspiration, I’ve love for 3 years now then I started tearing up and a few beliebers gave me hugs, they were such sweethearts. All a sudden we heard someone say “GROUP 2, YOU’RE UP” HOLY CRAP BATMAN. I was first to go in and from the outside I saw him, he was like punching and kicking around like in the gif he gave us all but anyway, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was already tearing up and then as I walked in, I heard “No, don’t cry! You’re already wet.” Justin Bieber was talking to me, ME, Marisa Soraya. I couldn’t believe my life. I replied “Obviously, if you say that i am going to cry .” And he said “Awwwww” then he kissed my cheek,JUSTIN BIEBER KISSED MY LEFT CHEEK. The photographer took my picture and I went out crying next to Clara then we went our separate ways because we got different tickets. I was walking out to the VVIP section, crying as hell and all the guards that passed me thought I fell or broke a bone or something. I got into the VVIP line. The concert started at 8.30 and it was one of the best experience ever. After the concert, I went back to his hotel and he tweeted “off to shower then team dinner.” And there was only one famous restaurant there. So I went up to where it was and the next thing I know, I saw everyone. Dan, Scooter, Pattie, Alfredo, Justin, Selena, Mike, Legaci, Nick, EVERYONE but they were having dinner and I didn’t want to bother them . I took some pictures then left. It was really nice to actually see all of them with my own eyes. This was the best bieber experience ever. Hopefully there will be more to come. I love you, Justin.
