Obama on GOP: Helping Rich People Binds Them Together!

President Barack Obama said on Al Sharpton’s radio show that the one thing holding the Republican party together these days is its love of rich people. Obama: Love of Rich Binds GOP Together Obama said on Al Sharpton’s radio show: “My sense is that their basic view is that nothing is important enough to raise taxes on wealthy individuals or corporations.” “They would prefer to see these kinds of cuts that could slow down our recovery over closing tax loopholes. That’s the thing that binds their party together at this point.” Whoa, tell us how you really feel, B!! Delivering such a blunt assessment right now, as opposed to during campaign season, seems more than a bit unwise, with the “sequestration” looming. On March 1, massive spending cuts will kick in unless Obama, the Democratic-controlled Senate and the GOP-led House resolve the current budget impasse. Even as he contacted House Speaker John Boehner and Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell Thursday to talk about the budget, Obama is holding is ground. “Unfortunately, I think Republicans right now are so dug in on this notion of never raising taxes that it becomes difficult for them to see an obvious answer right in front of them,” Obama added. Wisely or not, he’s steadfastly sticking to a position that many GOP legislators have rejected when it comes to resolving the current budget stalemate. He said 75 percent of Americans support his “balanced approach” of tax increases and spending cuts, criticizing the GOP for favoring only spending cuts. At this point, both sides seem willing to let sequestration kick in on principle, rather than compromise. Time will tell if they blink – or what the consequences might be.

SMH: Obama Gives Executive Order For Congressional Pay Raise!?!?

For real tho??? We still have no deal with the Fiscal Cliff and the Farm Bill… but let’s go ahead and give Congress a pay raise. According to The Huffington Post , this years session in Congress has been one of the most unproductive in more than 50 years: President Barack Obama gave a New Year’s gift to returning members of Congress, federal workers and Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday, signing an executive order calling for an end to a years-long pay freeze. As of March 27, 2013, federal employees will see a half-percent to one percent pay increase, marking the end of a pay freeze that has been in place since late 2010. Congress hasn’t seen a pay raise since 2009. According to the order, Biden’s pay will increase from $225,521 to $231,900 a year, before taxes. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will see his salary increased to $224,500 and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will take home an annual pay of $194,400 after his raise. While Obama’s order made no mention of merit for such a raise, HuffPost’s Amanda Terkel reported on Friday that the 112th Congress is set to end the session as the most unproductive since the 1940s, with only 219 bills passed by the body becoming law. The raise won’t take place until the 113th Congress, meaning that outgoing members will see no effect from the order. Obama ordered the raise as he continues to negotiate unsuccessfully with congressional leaders to find a deal in order to avoid the fiscal cliff at the end of the year. If no agreement is met, over $500 billion in planned tax increases and spending cuts will be implemented. WOW! The more you know folks. Images via tumblr/facebook

Rick Perry Drops Out Of Race, Endorses Newt Gingrich

‘I know when it’s time to make a strategic retreat,’ former GOP presidential hopeful says. By Dan Montalto Rick Perry Photo: Getty Images Rick Perry announced Thursday (January 19) that he is suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination and throwing his support behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Perry made the announcement at a news conference in Charleston, South Carolina, saying, “I have come to the conclusion that there is no viable path forward for me in the 2012 campaign. I know when it’s time to make a strategic retreat.” The Texas governor’s announcement came just hours before the final debate leading up to Saturday’s South Carolina primary, in which he had been polling in the low single digits. Perry finished fifth in both the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary . Upon entering the race, Perry initially surged in the polls, but his support quickly dwindled following several gaffes during the Republican debates. In explaining his support for Gingrich, Perry stated, “I believe Newt is a conservative visionary who can transform this country,” adding that Gingrich has the “heart of a conservative reformer.” With recent polls showing Gingrich closing in on Romney’s lead in South Carolina, Perry’s timing and endorsement could have an impact on Saturday’s primary. Perry’s endorsement of Gingrich also comes on the same day that a recount of the Iowa caucus results erased Romney’s razor-thin victory, putting former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum at the top of the vote count.
