FOH, 45! Rep. John Lewis Formally Calls For Impeachment Proceedings Against Donald Trump [Video]

Source: The Washington Post / Getty John Lewis Calls For Donald Trump’s Impeachment Proceedings Rep. John Lewis took his years of experience and a heavy heart to the floor of Congress to call for the beginning of impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump for his many transgressions against democracy. In the wake of Trump’s shady conversation with the president of Ukraine in which he asked the foreign leader to investigate his political opponent, Joe Biden, Rep. Lewis decided that he can no longer sit idly by and watch cowardly Democrats and obsequious Republicans allow 53% of white women’s president to sully the White House with misdeeds. Press play below to watch his impassioned call to action. We can only hope that Democratic gatekeeper Nancy Pelosi is listening…

Mike Sorrentino’s Post-Prison Plans: I Want to Smush With My Wife and Stay Sober!

Last week, Mike Sorrentino was released after serving eight months behind bars for tax evasion. Despite his relatively short sentence, The Situation missed out on quite a lot during his time in federal prison. For one thing, the Jersey Shore money train is still chugging along, which means at this point, Snooki and company can enjoy a hearty laugh at the haters who dismissed them as a flash in the pan and made snide “15 minutes of fame” remarks a freakin’ decade ago. Mike was able to make a couple voice-over cameos by calling his former housemate’s cell phones at opportune times, and his new wife Lauren Pesce took his place at events like Ronnie’s daughter’s birthday party. But it just wasn’t the same in terms of the viewer experience, the group dynamic — or the Sorrentinos’ pocketbook. (While Lauren was paid for appearances, she likely earned a fraction of what Mike would make, and The Sitch’s phone cameos were brief and infrequent.) Of course, what Mike really missed out on wasn’t lining his pockets, but spending time with his family. Sorrentino married Pesce just two months before he began serving his sentence. He stated repeatedly in the weeks after his wedding that leaving Lauren behind would be the most difficult part of his ordeal. These days, Big Daddy Sitch is opening up about his post-prison plans, and not surprisingly, it seems he’s focused on making up for lost time. “It’s fantastic. I have my beautiful wife next to me. I’m healthy, I’m sober, back at work with my best friends on the No. 1 show on MTV and just living the dream,” Mike told Entertainment Tonight in a new interview. “You sort of take your freedom for granted sometimes,” he added. “Once you get out, you are taking advantage [of] every minute,” the 37-year-old continued. “Every second, every meal, every conversation with my beautiful wife, with my friends. I love my job, so I am on such an awesome road and we are very excited to see what the future has to offer.” “It’s a very uncomfortable situation from start to finish [but] it’s not the end of the world,” Mike added of his time behind bars. “I was just proud of myself that, even under extreme stress and adversity, I was still able to do my job and do it well,” he said. “And still able to earn an income while in prison.” Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Situation. We’re happy to have him back. View Slideshow: Mike Sorrentino in Prison: Star’s Sad Farewell to Freedom, New Life Behind Bars, Conjugal Visit “Situation” Revealed [UPDATED]

Tekashi69: Will Witness Protection Help Him Escape the Nine Trey Bloods?

We’ve all faced difficult decisions in life. But few of us have ever wound up in such a troubling dilemma as the one in which Tekashi69 now finds himself. In case, you’re unfamiliar with what might be the strangest celebrity scandal of the year, here’s a brief rundown of the rapper’s current quandary. Back in November, Tekashi was arrested for a litany of crimes, most of which were related to his involvement with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang. There was a time when it looked as though Tekashi would remain behind bars for the rest of his life . With the prospect of several decades behind bars looming before him, perhaps it’s not surprising that Tekashi — whose real name is Daniel Hernandez — decided to turn state’s witness and inform on his fellow Nine Treys. Over the course of three days of testimony in the trial of Aljermiah “Nuke” Mack and Anthony “Harv” Ellison, Tekashi snitched not only on the defendants, but also on several prominent figures in the hip hop community. Tekashi identified Cardi B as a member of the Nine Treys, and he told the court that rapper Jim Jones is such a high-ranking member of the organization that he’s able to order hits with impunity. The good news for Tekashi is that he’ll likely receive a much lighter sentence in his own trial as a result of his testimony. While he was once facing several decades behind bars, he’s now likely to be released as early as next year. The bad news, of course, is that Hernandez will now be a marked man for the rest of his days, and while the Federal Witness Protection Program has been known to work wonders, celebrities with facial tattoos tend to stand out in rural Arkansas. Already, Tekashi is being mercilessly dragged online with hip hop colleagues and former fans alike deriding him as a “rat” and a “snitch.” Of course, the internet vitriol is nothing compared to the danger that will come once Hernandez is released. Tekashi was already kidnapped by the Nine Treys once, and he testified that he believes he would have been murdered by the gang had he not been arrested first. “I knew I was going to become a target,” he said in court.  “I knew they were going to try and hurt me.” Despite his eccentric appearance, it’s likely that Tekashi will be able to disappear if he cooperates with authorities. But it’s important to remember that Tekashi is only 23, and it’s unlikely that any other career field will offer him anything close to the lifestyle he enjoyed as a rapper. So despite the considerable risk involved, he may not want to disappear from the public eye. Hot 97 radio personality Miss Info points out that while Tekashi will be persona non grata in the hip hop community following his release, he’ll also be more famous than ever among the general public. And in 2019, that level of fame might mean that he’ll be able to earn a living as a public figure despite the fact that not he’ll be entirely on his own in an industry in which connections are everything.  “In the attention economy, just knowing that 6ix9ine might open his mouth somewhere is like shipping platinum,” she recently told The New York Times. “But nobody with any of their own value will ever stand next to him. So he has to exist in a vacuum and can’t leave his house,” she adds. “All doable things for an artist in 2019 and beyond.” So it’s possible that Tekashi will be willing to literally risk it all in order to continue with his music career. No doubt the public will continue to regard him with rapt fascination — but all that attention might carry with it some profound consequences.

Alana Thompson: My Mama Put Me Through HELL This Year!!

This year, June Shannon has been in such bad shape that Alana Thompson couldn’t bear to live with her own mother — it just wasn’t safe. While attorneys protected Alana’s money from her mom , Alana’s sister Lauryn took her in. Now, Alana has penned a moving post about enduring the horrors of this year — and how she is thriving. “Can we just be real for a second?” 14-year-old Alana asks her fans and followers. As Honey Boo Boo is well aware, many popular users on social media avoid sincerety in public posts. But she wants to talk about this. She writes: “Let me tell y’all how proud i am of myself!” “i have honestly been thought hell and back this year,” Alana points out. “And i’m still standing!” “i have been doing so good in school,” she adds. “And just being more happy.” Not all of the negativity in her life has come from June Shannon and Geno being the worst . “I get so much hate,” Alana laments. “But then,” she writes. “I think about who all loves me and i know them haters mean nothing.” ” i have so much going for me,” Alana affirms. “And so many people that love me.” “And the best words you can hear is I see you trying i’m so proud of you,” she expresses. “But really that feeling is a whole different story,” Alana gushes. “Knowing you are making people happy and most importantly you hits so different,” she observes. Alana has a powerful, uplifting message for her followers. She writes: “let me just be the one to tell y’all if you are going through anything right now” “Trust me,” Alana ssures them. “It gets better you are worth it.” “i’m so proud of you,” Alana praises any of her followers who may be in need of validation. “i can see you trying,” she adds. Alana concludes her inspiring message: “i love you.” Not every teen reality star has the presence of mind to give these kinds of affirmations to her own young, impressionable fans. Alana has been through a lot, but she knows that her family doesn’t have a monopoly on tragedy. June Shannon’s drama is Alana’s trauma. June was arrested for crack cocaine alongside her terrible garbage boyfriend, Geno Doak, earlier this year. Afterwards, instead of cleaning up their acts, the pair seemed to shrug off all concerns. They went on gambling adventures while staying in hotels. Most recently, June sold off most of her possessions from her home — and is now living in an RV with Geno. We’re relieved that Alana missed most of the horror show that left June’s home covered in explained and unexplained damage. But that doesn’t make this easy for her. She’s just a young teenage girl, and her mother has fallen so far. When Alana pleaded with June to go to rehab at that disastrous intervention, June declined — adamantly. She said that she would not go to any inpatient treatment. Lauryn explained her “reasoning.” The truth is that June was afraid that without her there to keep an eye on him, Geno would either leave her or simply cheat. No man is worth your family, your health, your money, or all of the work that you poured into bettering your life. Swirlitics: Jeanie Mai Says She’s In A “Interresponsible” Relationship With Jeezy As They Learn Each Other’s Cultures

Source: Leon Bennett / Getty Deep Swirl: Jeannie Mai Talks Jeezy Learning Her Culture And Her Learning His History Interracial relationships are more than just “looking good” together and Jeannie Mai knows this. While visiting Big Boy’s Neighborhood  with the ladies of  T he Real ,  Jeannie addressed folks critical of her new romance. After comments she made about her taste for “dark meat” spread, the host tried to sort out why she got so much heat for it. “That’s something I’m still kind of understanding because I don’t see it. Obviously when you marry you marry for love. Even in my past marriage, I married for love. Feelings change, people grow apart, so that happened. For me, it’s just focusing on what is love for two people, two human beings? So that part is kind of a responsibility that we’re just going to have to demonstrate through our relationship.” Jeannie acknowledges that her role on hern Jeezy relationship is much bigger than optics. It’s about cultures coming together. “I think when you look at the word ‘interracial,’ you should really look at it as ‘interresponsible.’ It is a responsibility when you date outside of your race to learn about that culture because not everybody’s experience is the same,” she said. “When he steps into my house he takes off his shoes, he knows how Vietnamese people do it. When I met him I was like, ‘I want to go to Hawkinsville [Georgia]. Show me exactly this yellow house that you grew up in, and how did you start your business and how did you understand how to make a dollar. I actually loved it.” People the whole interview below.

Black Women Entrepreneurs Pay Off Debt For 30 Students At Clark Atlanta University

T wo Black women entrepreneurs paid it forward by giving back to students in need at their alma mater. Pinky Cole , the creator of the plant-based burger restaurant Slutty Vegan, and Harlem Hops owner Stacey Lee —both alums of Clark Atlanta University—helped 30 seniors who attend the historically Black college pay off their debt, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. These two women went back to their alma mater and asked for a list of seniors who wouldn’t be able to graduate due to outstanding balances. Then they partnered to clear them. https://t.co/UmdvX9MfAp — #becauseofthemwecan (@Becauseofthem) September 12, 2019 Lee, who founded Harlem’s first-ever Black-owned beer bar, was determined to find a way to assist students who are struggling with the cost of tuition. She contacted Cole to explore ways they could join forces and eliminate financial burdens for students so they’d be able to walk across the graduation stage. Cognizant of how the student debt crisis has hit HBCUs the hardest, the women were motivated to utilize their resources to make a difference in the lives of students of color. Cole and Lee—who are members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated—connected with the school and asked for a list of seniors who needed to pay off debt so they would be able to graduate. They randomly chose 30 students to help and surprised them on campus to let them know that their outstanding balances have been handled. “God has been so good to us both. It just felt right,” Cold told Because of Them We Can . “Growing up in a single-family household, and being the first to go to college, I know what it feels like to not know where the money is coming from. But there were people who believed in me despite my circumstances and I wanted to be that person for someone else.” Since the inception of her fast-growing business, which has evolved into a staple in Atlanta, she has donated over $100,000 towards the education of college students in need. Entrepreneurs are stepping up to help students of different ages tackle their debt. In June, a Black-owned barbershop in North Carolina raised money to help high school seniors pay off their debt so they would be able to graduate. BOSSIP Exclusives: Netflix Style Stars Jason Bolden And Adair Curtis Open Up About “Styling Hollywood”

Source: Courtesy Netflix / Courtesy Netflix “Styling Hollywood” Is A Netflix Classic Last month Netflix debuted “Styling Hollywood ,” an ultra chic, but proudly black docuseries, following the lives of Jason Bolden and Adair Curtis, an insanely talented couple who run the JSN Studios design company — where Bolden styles Hollywood celebs including Mindy Kaling, Ava Duvernay, Taraji P. Henson, Yara Shahidi, Storm Reid and a gang of other lovely leading ladies and Curtis oversees interior design projects for stars like Dulé Hill and Sanaa Lathan. Our Senior Director of Content Janeé Bolden binged the entire series the weekend it was released and sat down with the happy couple to discuss. Check out her interview below! Janeé Bolden: How you decided who to actually feature on the show?(Henson, Shahidi, Reid, Duvernay, Lathan and the Hills all make appearances, while some clients were mentioned via photos or video b-roll) Jason Bolden: It was the middle of the awards season and a lot of people were working or traveling, so a lot of it was the people who had a window of time and were available. Everything was happening in real time. Seeing Taraji the day of the Emmys was happening in real time. View this post on Instagram Mid sentence per use…Milano nights w/ my 1&Only + our @prada family A post shared by Adair Curtis (@adair_curtis) on Sep 18, 2019 at 12:37pm PDT Janeé: You guys are an African-American gay couple, not exactly what we see on TV much at all. How did that factor into you guys wanting to tell your story? Jason: Hashtag #DoubleBlack! Adair: In the beginning, and even up until we started doing press, it’s always in the back of your mind, you’re cognizant of it, that it is not often that you see yourself represented, or scenarios of people who look like you so much or have backgrounds like you, so much. So it was important to us to be portrayed in our truest form, in our truest light and to give audiences a glimpse of what our life is like. We’re just like everyone else. Janeé: Yes you are, but way more fabulous! Better access, better cars, way cuter dog, way more access to dope closets and interiors as well. All that aside, you’re both very busy… How did you make time for production? Video production is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a production… That part didn’t get frustrating at all? Adair: Yeah that part was hard. It was something we had to adjust to, because our work schedules are very hectic and we work around the clock. Sometimes I had to film by myself because Jason was working, he had to be on location somewhere or on a set with somebody or at a fitting. And then even vice versa. Jason had to film while I was at a site meeting or I may have been in meetings or designing … It was something we had to adjust to but the family just got used to it. Janeé: If you guys get to do another season, and I hope you do, will we get to see more of your job Adair? I feel like the Hill house took up the bulk of the season in terms of what we saw of your work. We saw Sanaa’s Air BnB, we saw you furniture shopping with Gabrielle Union, but outside of that we saw a lot of Jason during awards season. Adair: Yeah it’s hard to please everybody the crazy thing, or the factual thing about interiors is that things take a long time. Renovations take a long time. While Jason could outfit someone quickly and you can get this on film quickly, we can start a renovation in December and not finish until the next December and when you have a window to fit something in that’s what you do. If we get a second season. we will show the interior work, because Jason is involved in that too and you don’t get to see that so much. Our dynamic of how we work together on interiors. I’m hoping we get to show more of that too. Hit the flip to continue.

HAUGHT OR NAUGHT: H&M Under Fire For Neglecting A Young Black Models’ Hair, The Popular Retailer Defends Hairstyle

More:

Another day – another scandal. We’ve made it through fashion week with only a few hiccups, but now H&M is once again under fire. The brand was in the news in 2018 for having a little Black boy wear a shirt that said, “The coolest monkey in the jungle.” Now they are facing scrutiny for how a young Black woman’s hair was featured on their site. It was celebrity hairstylist, Vernon Francois , who shamed the brand via Instagram. View this post on Instagram It’s essential that we have a conversation about this photograph from the @hm_kids campaign.  Before I begin, I do not have the facts, nor have I seen any statement by #H&M or the team who worked on this. This post is just an assessment based on all my years of seeing situations like this happen time and time again.  And its got to stop. This beautiful young girl’s #kinky hair appears to have had very little to no attention yet all of her counterparts have clearly sat in front of someone who was more then capable of styling other hair textures. My heart breaks imagining yet another girl from my community sitting in front of a mirror being ignored by the team around her, left to her own devices because someone didn’t know how to handle her texture. As if that’s not bad enough…. Prior to this campaign appearing this photograph will have been seen and APPROVED by countless ‘professionals'. Lets say conservatively 50 people. It’s breathtaking to me that not one person looked at this shot and had the same reaction that the internet seems to be feeling since the campaign broke.  THAT IS AN ISSUE.  We must do better.  Our girls, our young women deserve better.  Let this be a moment of learning. #Education is key #wehavetodobetter #vernonfrancois #Ignorance #blackgirlmagic #allhairisgoodhair A post shared by Vernon François (@vernonfrancois) on Sep 19, 2019 at 9:33pm PDT The young model has Type 4 hair, which often isn’t even represented in ads and campaigns. The other issue is that often at fashion shows or shoots, Black models are forced to do their hair themselves because hairstylists who can do their hair are not hired on set. Yes, despite all the diversity initiatives, we are still having this issue in 2019. Francois stated via his Instagram, “This beautiful young girl’s #kinky hair appears to have had very little to no attention yet all of her counterparts have clearly sat in front of someone who was more then capable of styling other hair textures. My heart breaks imagining yet another girl from my community sitting in front of a mirror being ignored by the team around her, left to her own devices because someone didn’t know how to handle her texture.” ‘Nuff said. Of course when social media got their hands on this, H&M released a statement to Essence, “We are aware of the comments regarding one of our models for H&M Kids. We truly believe that all kids should be allowed to be kids. The school aged kids who model for us come to the photo studio in the afternoon after school and we aim for a natural look which reflects that.” Well. It is true that a young Black girl with Type 4 hair could leave her house with her hair looking together and after school and rough play on the playground, look like this. This is natural, Type 4 hair, without a brush and edge control. If people were shocked, is it normally because we are used to seeing it “tamed”? Personally, I understand what H&M is trying to do; however, I believe that an image lasts a lifetime. If all the other kids are represented looking polish, I’d appreciate if someone put a paddle brush to this child’s hair and helped to smooth her afro puff. Beauties, we want you to weigh in: is H&M right or wrong for leaving this young girls hair in its natural state? Take our poll and sound off in the comment section.
