But there’s so much more to learn about the Mississippi born candidate who served six years as both the first black Democratic leader in the state House and the first woman. Just last month, Abrams told Essence , “Black women have demonstrated an enthusiasm and engagement in politics that is unmatched. So, for me, using and leveraging that community is critical to winning, but it is the beginning.” Well said, sis! Check out a list of things you should know about Stacey Abrams, who may become the first Black woman to ever become governor in the United States.

Lisa Vanderpump: The Other Real Housewives Are BULLYING Me!!

It has been clear for a while now that Lisa Vanderpump is less invested in being a Real Housewife these days. It seems that there’s some underlying beef with her fellow Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but they’ve mostly kept a lid on it. Now, however, multiple Housewives are letting their frustrations spill over into public comments. Over the weekend, Camille Grammer married David C. Meyer . Lisa Rinna, Dorit Kemsley, Teddi Mellencamp, and Kyle Richards were all in attendance at the ceremony in Hawaii. Lisa Vanderpump, however, was not. And fans definitely noticed. One fan commented on Kyle’s Instagram, demanding to know: “Why do YOU guys always [gang] up on LVP?” “This show will suck without her,” the commenter wrote. “But I’m sure she will be in all your mouths.” (To be clear, the commenter means that her name will be on their lips and is not suggesting either sex or cannibalism) Kyle Richards replied to that comment and was adamant that the claim is untrue. “NOBODY has ganged up [on] anyone,” Kylie insists. “Any report of that,” Kyle writes. “Is an outright lie!” “LVP has been invited to every single event that we each have been invited to,” Kylie continues. Kylye adds: “If she chooses not to come then that is her choice.” “Anyone trying to sway the public to believe anything else is not being honest,” Kyle concludes. Lisa Vanderpump herself had a very different take when a commenter wrote to her about how she has been treated. “This season of @realhousewivesofbeverlyhills is clearly a massive gang up of bullying against you,” a fan wrote. And,” the fan’s comment said. “I think it will be their biggest mistake.” The fan continued: “That show will not survive to be the show it was without you. #factsarefacts” Lisa Vanderpump seemed to approve of the commenter’s take on the recent dynamic among the Housewives. “Someone’s paying attention,” she wrote back. Elle’s Juicy Scoops shared some thoughts on Instagram about upcoming episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills . “I predict a season with silly fights, little friction, and a lot of snooze in between,” the page predicts. “LVP grieving the loss of her brother in her own way, being distant and absent here and there, throwing some shade,” the page writes. The prediction then includes: “new alliances and attempts to gang up on LVP.” Lisa Rinna saw it and emphatically disagreed. “Why hasn’t Lvp filmed with us for over 6 weeks?” Rinna begins. “I have no beef with her,” Rinna claims before demanding to know: “Who does that? Who doesn’t show up for work?” “I too lost my father while filming,” she continues. “And I completely understand that everyone’s grieving process is just that their process.” “We have all reached out to her and we are all there for her,” she says. “She has chosen to not film with us,” “I too lost my sister to an overdose I have great empathy and I have been there,” she writes. “If you sign up to do a job you do it,” Lisa Rinna affirms. “No matter what. That’s show biz.” “I did it,” she continues. “Eileen [Davidson] did it when her mother passed away the day before the reunion.” In Rinna’s eyes, “You show up or if you can’t then you say I can’t and I’m going to take this season off to heal.” “But please don’t make any of us out to be bullies,” she says to fans. “We are not.” “We are here to film a tv show that we all signed a contract to do,” she concludes. “We wish LVP only the very best in her time of mourning.” We’re not sure that we buy that there’s no beef between Vanderpump and her co-stars. But we will say that it’s probably not right to characterize these particular reality stars as bullying each other. Find another word. View Slideshow: 14 Best Lisa Vanderpump Quotes… Ever!

‘LHHATL’ Star Spice Just Pulled Off The Best Marketing Ploy To Get People To Listen To Her Mixtape

Source: SPEX PHOTOGRAPHY, INC / SPEX PHOTOGRAPHY, INC Colorism is an issue not only prevalent in American culture but in Caribbean culture as well and this Love & Hip Hop Atlanta artist Spice (real name Grace Hamilton) is using her platform to speak out about it. Spice scammed all of us when she posted a questionable photo on Instagram that left fans speculating she bleached her skin. It turns out, the image was a super effective marketing ploy to grab our attention. Spice released her mixtape Captured , which debuted at #1 on the reggae charts. Spice’s controversial promotion raised eyebrows, but for good reason. Her first single is about the affects of colorism and how it could push someone to bleach their skin. “I get hate from my own race yes that’s a fact,” she raps. “Cause the same black people dem say I’m too black and if you bleach out you skin dem same one come a chat.” Celebrities and artists like Michael Jackson, Vybez Kartel and Sammy Sosa infamously bleached their skin to appear lighter. Spice’s stance, banish colorism, was met with polarizing comments. While some fans understood her message, others couldn’t understand her tactics. I want to congratulate Spice’s PR stunt and people because they successfully nailed these goals. Her single #BlackHypocrisy topping the charts, statement is proved, and her followers grew from 1.4M to 1.6M in a matter of 36 hours. Impeccable . — T E E R E I G N (@TeeReign_) October 23, 2018 I have a new level of respect for @spiceofficial . I love and respect how you embrace and stood firm when all was against u. Ur song #Blackhypocrisy speaks loud, volume and to me even tho I'm a man. Keep it up. — Marlando-Anthony (@Marlaan_Anthony) October 23, 2018 Spice really was speaking facts in her song, but if she really bleached her skin I’ll be sick af… #BlackHypocrisy — ChRiStLe (@Chrizz_Till) October 23, 2018 In 2017, website SoulReflectionz.com spoke with six Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaican natives, who shared their thoughts on the idea that lighter skin is more desirable. “There’s no question that in Trinidad and Tobago, a lot of people see light-skinned individuals as superior to those with darker skin. Here, light-skinned means ‘exotic’ to many, and exotic, in turn, is considered to be more interesting,” Michael from Trinidad and Tobago said. “Light-skinned people tend to have the advantage/upper hand when it comes to the way they are treated by the general public. I’m not just saying that. I’ve seen it with my own eyes, and, being dark-skinned, have been on the receiving end of negativity because of my shade of black. Slavery definitely has a part to play in this mindset.” Spice is using her platform to promote change in the culture. We’re here for it. Stream her mixtape, here . After rumors swirled that Mac’s overdose played a part in her breakup with Pete Davidson (he’s publicly stated he smokes weed to deal with his mental issues), Ariana took to IG to post a video of her and Miller during better days. In the video the “Sweetner” singer posted recently we see Mac Miller getting dipped for The Oscars the couple attended with the help his mother Joan and grandmother, Nonna. Unfortunately, that was the last time the couple had a public outing as they broke up a few months later in May of 2017. Obviously, Mac still holds a special place in Ariana Grande’s heart. A Lil Positivity: Diddy Is Donating $1 Million To Open A Charter School In The Bronx

Photo by Thaddaeus McAdams/Getty Images Diddy Is Giving Money To Open Another School, This Time In The Bronx Diddy’s latest effort is helping to open a charter school in The Bronx. The music mogul just announced via his Instagram page that he’s giving money to the third outpost of Dr. Steve Perry’s Capital Prep Charter School in the near future to make it happen–and he’s not just donating some chump change, either. “Special announcement. I just got the news. Dr. Steven Perry and myself, we have just been awarded our third charter school,” he announced. “Guess what? We coming to the Bronx!…BX in the house. Shout out to the Bronx, we coming to the Bronx.” Diddy then goes on to further explain why he’s launching the charter school in the first place. “It’s about educating our children, bringing them up as leaders, bringing them up to fight for social justice, preparing them for this world that we live in.” According to Prep, its mission is to provide “historically disadvantaged students with the college and career readiness skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice.” Diddy says that he knows the value a great education can have on a child’s life, which is why he’s all in behind Capital Prep and this latest endeavor. So of course, Diddy is doing everything he can to make sure that the school and its students get off on the right foot, which starts by him donating $1 million to the new Bronx school. Megyn Kelly Walks Back Idiotic Defense of Blackface

Megyn Kelly would like a mulligan. On Tuesday morning, the former Fox News host reminded NBC viewers where she used to work by sitting around with a few panelists and making a passionate defense for… … the use of blackface on Halloween? Yes. According to our records, this really was the random and racist hill on which Kelly decided to die for some reason. During the controversial segment on Tuesday, Kelly said it was perfectly alright when she was growing up for white people to dress up as black characters on October 31, speaking out against the Politically Correct Police these days who frown on such a thing. She used a really specific example to drive home her point, too. Back in April, an episode of The Real Housewives of New York featured cast member Luann de Lesseps going out for Halloween as Diana Ross . She received backlash for the outfit and then she apologized. Simple and understandable enough, right? Not to Megyn Kelly! “But what is racist?” Kelly asked, digging herself a deep grave by expounding as follows: “Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. “Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character.” We’re pretty sure that last sentence is demonstrably false; there just wasn’t social media back in the day over which folks could voice their concerns about these types of costumes. After earning immediate flak from basically everyone with a pulse, Kelly issued an apology on Tuesday evening. Written as an internal note, a copy of which was provided by a spokesperson for NBC via Twitter, Kelly said the following: One of the wonderful things about my job is that I get the chance to express and hear a lot of opinions. T oday is one of those days where listening carefully to other points of view, including from friends and colleagues, is leading me to rethink my own views. Continued Kelly: When we had the roundtable discussion earlier today about the controversy of making your face look like a different race as part of a Halloween costume, I suggested that this seemed okay if done as part of this holiday where people have the chance to make themselves look like others. The iconic Diana Ross came up as an example. To me, I thought, why would it be controversial for someone dressing up as Diana Ross to make herself look like this amazing woman as a way of honoring and respecting her? I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry. The history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent; the wounds too deep. Yes, exactly. Kelly prides herself as a journalist and yet somehow didn’t realize previously that blackface — which was used in the late 19th century and early 20th century by white theater performers to mock and stereotype African-Americans – has an offensive history?!? Come on, Megs. As Melania Trump might say, try to be be better, okay? Try not to make it so clear that you want back on Fox News and are happy to show executives there while you still belong. Go ahead and search social media for the best responses to this scandal, but we’ll go with Top Chef Padma Lakshmi and her Tweet. This is what she wrote: “I cannot believe the ignorance on this in 2018. You are on national television. “You have a responsibility to educate yourself on social issues @megynkelly. This is so damaging.” Once aganin: Yes, exactly.

B lack women are making moves in the realm of entrepreneurship. Many of their ventures are designed to give back to individuals from disenfranchised groups. Two Black women in Tulsa are aiming to level the property ownership playing field through the creation of their own real estate company, Forbes reported. Meet the women who lead the first African American-owned real estate crowdfunding platform https://t.co/RFdg1yNOgf pic.twitter.com/bfSrkDWr6p — Women@Forbes (@WomenatForbes) October 18, 2018 Johnetta G. Paye , Esq. and Ernestine Johnson are the women behind the first Black-owned real estate crowdfunding company, the news outlet writes. Dubbed the Tulsa Real Estate Fund (TREF), the platform was created to help individuals in underserved communities overcome the obstacles of gentrification by helping them make low-cost real estate investments. Those who take advantage of the fund can invest in property for less than $1,000. The two were motivated to start their venture after doing research about the racial wealth gap and the ravaging affects of gentrification. Hearing the stories about people who were pushed out of their neighborhoods because they couldn’t afford to stay there and realizing that there was a lack of resources offered to low-income individuals related to property ownership prompted them to take action. “I said to myself, ‘I have to use my art and my voice to financially empower low-income, underserved, and urban communities,” said Johnson, who serves as the co-founder and chief communications officer of TREF. Paye, who serves as the company’s vice president of business affairs, says that her personal experiences motivated her to make a change. “My parents struggled and sacrificed to become homeowners. Now I see the pride they have in their home,” Paye told Forbes. “Also, as an attorney, I have facilitated numerous real estate transactions for first-time homebuyers. I have seen the power of real estate to transform people’s lives.” There are several initiatives that have been launched to give individuals a seat at the table when it comes to the redevelopment of their communities. Last year, the Entrepreneurs of Color Fund —which was specifically designed to give Black entrepreneurs access to capital—grew to $18 million. 5 Takeaways From Andrew Gillum’s Masterful Debate Dismantling Of Ron DeSantis

See more here:

Source: Pool / Getty T he race to be Florida’s next governor became that much clearer after the first debate between candidates Sunday night. Democratic nominee Andrew Gillum decidedly out-dueled his Republican opponent Ron DeSantis , showing that the Tallahassee mayor had a major advantage on multiple fronts weeks ahead of Election Day next month. DeSantis, a former congressman who left office under a shroud of controversy, has routinely resorted to racist rhetoric during this contentious campaign. And while much of that type of talk was absent from the debate, it became increasingly and painfully obvious that he was not qualified for any elected office, let alone the governorship of Florida. As a result, there were five distinct takeaways from the one-sided debate that needed to be emphasized. 1. Gillum is head and shoulders above DeSantis when it comes to the issues. From the start of the debate, Gillum was all about policy and issues, punctuating his political knowledge with a quip about how he would be “a governor that believes in science,” a slick reference to DeSantis denying the proof behind climate change. Democrat Andrew Gillum on how to deal with industries hurting the environment: “We are going to hold them accountable because this is our air, our water, our beaches, our oceans and there is not a profit margin in this state big enough to take control of that.” #FLGovDebate pic.twitter.com/IrUcjZ1HkT — CNN Politics (@CNNPolitics) October 22, 2018 Gillum said he was incredulous that DeSantis was against solar energy, especially considering how Florida is known as the “Sunshine State.” The Tallahassee mayor also showed his masterful knowledge on taxes and Medicaid , two other issues important to Florida voters. Andrew Gillum roasts the Florida GOP’s climate change denial: “What Florida voters need to know is that when they elect me governor they’re gonna have a governor who believes in science, which we haven’t had for quite some time in this state.” #FLGovDebate pic.twitter.com/IxEHsOS1Uw — Adam Best (@adamcbest) October 22, 2018 2. DeSantis is extremely disrespectful. The former congressman who resigned in April in part because of a House ethics complaint against him repeatedly cut off Gillum’s well-articulated debate responses while continuously calling Gillum by his first name. Moderator Jake Tapper announced the two had only met in person moments before the debate began, making it even more noticeable how DeSantis called Gillum “Andrew” while Gillum called DeSantis by more respectful terms, such as “congressman” or “my opponent.” It is notable that @AndrewGillum calls @RepDeSantis “Congressman” and DeSantis calls him “Andrew.” Gillum is still Mayor of Tallahassee, and DeSantis is not even a Congressman anymore. It is clear what his word choice implies. — Jamil Smith (@JamilSmith) October 22, 2018 Ron DeSantis calling Andrew Gillum by his first name feels a lot like him trying to call him “boy.” — Clint Smith (@ClintSmithIII) October 22, 2018 Adding insult to injury, DeSantis ducked accusations of racism despite his rhetoric revealing the opposite and repeatedly lied about Gillum’s record, including an embellished and disproven report about Tallahassee’s murder rate. 3. Jake Tapper did a horrible job moderating. The CNN anchor kept cutting off Gillum during his responses while seemingly ignoring how DeSantis made a habit of going well over his 70-second allotted time for his own responses. @jaketapper quit cutting Gillum off. — kimmiesue (@Kimzjourney) October 22, 2018 Damn, @jaketapper ’s bias is showing so clearly in this debate. He’s giving DeSantis more time, let’s him ignore the question and sits silently as DeSantis continuously interrupts Gillum. This debate should put to rest the idea that Tapper is fair and balanced. — A Little Royal (@alittlebitroyal) October 22, 2018 I could be wrong here but it seems like Tapper is giving DeSantis more time and rudely interrupting Gillum more. And I think Gillum is wiping the floor with DeSantis! — Janni Rae (@JanShar44080635) October 22, 2018 To top it off, Tapper didn’t ask a handful of questions that Florida voters may have wanted to hear, including the contentious topic of the state’s Stand Your Ground law , which has come under renewed scrutiny lately and seemingly gives white gun owners a get out of jail free card for shooting Black people in Florida. 4. DeSantis is a Trump loyalist through and through. He blindly lent his loyalty to the president and even said Donald Trump was a role model for kids. Gillum offered the perfect response. This was the moment of the debate for me: @AndrewGillum gives the PERFECT reaction to DeSantis' weird answer about Trump being a role model for kids. Perfect. And hilarious. #FLGovDebate pic.twitter.com/wP608iIxIA — Tommy Christopher (@tommyxtopher) October 22, 2018 5. This campaign isn’t even a contest. Gillum showed he and DeSantis are not operating on an even level in any capacity, but especially politically and intellectually. The Tallahassee mayor outshined him on every topic that came up and showed himself to be a more personable and likable candidate. In addition, Gillum was and has been polling ahead of DeSantis. But, of course, as the entire country knows from 2016, polling means little to nothing until the Election Day results are tallied. Gillum got me sending him money for his campaign and I live in the North East. He's winning this debate and he will win the election. Now monkey that up DeSantis as you're spluttering all over the place. Gillum clearly has you rattled! #FLGovDebate pic.twitter.com/aLpSIQFLai — Dipped in Chocolate (@nativenuyorker_) October 22, 2018 All the more reason to go vote on Nov. 6.
