She Joins Some Fierce Competition Another politician has announced their vie for president, surely causing 2020 to be an interesting year. New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday and announced that she’s forming an exploratory committee for a presidential run. “It’s an important first step and it’s one I’m taking because I’m going to run,” she said to a cheering audience. “I’m going to run for president of the United States because as a young mom, I’m going to fight for other people’s kids as hard as I would fight for my own, which is why I believe that health care should be a right and not a privilege.” Gillibrand joins Sen. Elizabeth Warren in the presidential run, who announced her bid for the seat back in December. Vice President Joe Biden , Sen. Bernie Sanders , California Senator Kamala Harris and Texas politician Beto O’Rourke are also people planning or considering a run for president. According to the New York Post , Gillibrand was first elected to the House in 2006 as a moderate Democrat who rejected amnesty for undocumented immigrants, didn’t support same-sex marriage and had a 100 percent NRA voting record. Gillibrand took on her Senate seat in 2009, succeeding Hillary Clinton who went on to become the secretary of state. Gillibrand has held her seat since 2009 and moved more left with her politics by supporting gun control, same-sex marriage and calling for the end of ICE. Rihanna claims that her father booked a $15 million tour in Latin America and two concerts at the Staples Center in LA and the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for $400,000, for which she says she has no involvement in. Rihanna, who has multiple business endeavors under the Fenty name including Fenty Beauty, Savage X Fenty, and Fenty PUMA, says she sent several cease and desist letters to her father and his partner, but is now suing him as a last resort. Steve King of Iowa was unanimously voted out of his three seats on prestigious House committees Monday afternoon after making yet another extremely racist remark. King has a long history of making comments that earned him the title of bigot, we reported on his most recent racist rhetoric last week when he questioned why white supremacy was such a bad thing. Yes, a man who white people voted into office to govern the United States of America doesn’t see why people are so offended by a lil’ white supremacy. Doesn’t everyone like a lil’ white supremacy in their coffee? No? Just Steve King and 53% of white women? Got it. Sure, maybe some of the GOPers aren’t cool with King’s comments, but he’s literally been saying these things for YEARS. Just be warned … there is so, so much drama to break down. 1. What a Ride So let’s think about where we last left our Teen Mom 2 friends, all right? 2. Adam Problems In last season’s finale, we saw Chelsea deal with some visitation issues with Adam Lind — they’d worked it out in court that he could only see Aubree at a visitation center, but Chelsea found out that he’d been seeing her at his parents’ house while Aubree was visiting. It was a bad situation, but Chelsea worked everything out with Adam’s mother, so that’s cool. 3. Oh No, Leah Things with Leah were a little more heartbreaking, since we saw her take Ali to the hospital since she’s been having trouble breathing. Leah had a little breakdown about the situation, which was obviously understandable, but she got Ali a new machine that would help her exercise her lungs, and she also ensured that she’d have an aide at school for the rest of the year, something she’d been very concerned about. 4. Dealing with Dads Kailyn’s situation was quite a bit different than it is now — she was still having a hard time with Chris, and she and Javi were still in their kind of flirty stage before Lauren came into the picture and immediately got pregnant. 5. Just Briana Things Briana had just gotten some plastic surgery, and she had just broken up with Javi. We also got to see her have a heart-to-heart with Devoin, which was very sweet. 6. Dang It, Jenelle As for Jenelle, she was lying to her mother about what happened when she pulled a gun on that guy after following him back to his house and crying about how mean it was that MTV didn’t want David on the show. According to a study released by the National Bureau of Economic Research, Black students who have two Black teachers are 32 percent more likely to pursue their college education. As part of the program, graduates of Simmons College will have the opportunity to go through a 12-week accelerated summer program and eventually be placed at schools within the district. Organizers of the initiative hope to have graduates teaching in public schools by Fall 2019. The concept for the initiative came after the district realized there was a major gap between Black teachers and students. The district had a huge issue with hiring and keeping Black teachers. Although 35 percent of students in the county are African American, only 12 percent of the teachers are Black. The school district hopes to raise that percentage to 18 percent by 2020 through it’s Racial Equity Plan. “We believe we can be a catalyst in this area as it relates to our local school system and also across the state,” said Executive Vice President of Simmons College Dr. Frank Smith Jr. , according to the news outlet. There has been a major push to increase racial representation in classrooms. Last year in Connecticut, House representatives unanimously passed a bill to instruct the state’s Department of Education to recruit and retain more teachers of color. Source: VIEW press / Getty Michael Cohen Set To Testify In Front Of Congress Next Month According to Fox5 Atlanta , Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen , will testify publicly before a House committee next month in a hearing that could serve as the opening case for impeachment, his conflicts of interest and his alleged ties to Russia. The “House Oversight and Reform Committee” announced earlier this week that Cohen will testify before the panel early February. Cohen is a key piece in the investigations by special counsel Robert Mueller. He reportedly can speak on the potential coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign as well as the federal prosecutors in New York involved in campaign finance violations related to payments to two women who say they had sex with Trump earlier last year. Cohen has previously pleaded guilty in both investigations and was subsequently sentenced to 3 years in prison which many believe is the reason he now wants to testify and “state publicly all he knows.” In a statement released on Thursday, Cohen said he had accepted the invitation “in furtherance of my commitment to cooperate and provide the American people with answers.” Cohen also added: “I look forward to having the privilege of being afforded a platform with which to give a full and credible account of the events which have transpired.” Cohen acknowledged in the Mueller investigation that he wasn’t truthful to Congress by saying negotiations over a Trump Tower in Moscow had ended in January 2016 when they actually continued into that June, well into Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. In New York, he also acknowledged his involvement in the Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal scandals. Cohen testified before the House intelligence panel early in 2017, before his role in the federal investigations was fully known and when Republicans controlled the panel. The GOP-led committee later ended its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, saying there was no evidence of collusion or conspiracy between Trump’s campaign and Russia.
