Artie Lange Was Hospitalized for Self-Inflicted Stab Wounds

(Getty Images) Details of funnyman Artie Lange 's weekend hospitalization have been a mystery all week, but the New York Post reported today that he was hospitalized after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt. Artie Lange (From howardstern.com) An unnamed law enforcement source told the Post that Lange's mother found him lying in a pool of his own blood when she visited his apartment Saturday morning. Lange showed evidence of six small “hesitation wounds” and three deep plunges, the source said. Doctors operated on Lange and were able to save him despite his massive loss of blood. The Howard Stern sidekick has been missing from Stern's show for the past month, and on Monday, Stern addressed his absence. “Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He's a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don't forget how great he is.” Lange first joined the show in 2001 after writer Jackie “The Jokeman” Martling left the show.

Howard Stern swears off "’F’ing Democrats" Forever!

Says Democrats are all “Communists” On his Sirius/XM radio show on Thursday, Howard Stern had some very harsh words for the Federal Communications Commission. From EyeBlast : “I got so crazy over this yesterday, so I called my agent. And my agent, he’s very liberal Democrat kind of guy. I go that’s it! You know what Don. I’ve voted Republican and I’ve voted Democrat. I have vowed I will never vote for a Democrat again. I don’t give a fuck. No matter who they are… The facts are these Democrats at the FCC are Communists… they’re for communism.” At issue is the FCC’s plan to allow some Wireless providers to interfere with satellite radio broadcasts. From SatWaves : Stern discussed the issue live on his show yesterday, quoting and reading directly from an article I wrote several days ago, titled “Will The FCC Interfere With Sirius XM Yet Again?.” With a tone of disgust that should be expected of anyone now familiar with the decade long issue, Stern rightly noted that the FCC seems to go after him no matter where he is, through whatever means possible… Of note, Stern ran briefly in 1994 for the nomination of the Libertarian Party for Governor of New York.

Howard Stern On CBS ‘Early Show’: Jay Leno Bashing

Getty Images Howard Stern didn't have anything nice to say about Jay Leno today in his interview on CBS ' Early Show . He wasn't as lewd as he normally is on his own show, but he made no attempt to hide his disdain for the host. He bashed Leno pretty bad, and seemed like he had no qualms about his harsh words. Howard Stern (Getty) Among other things, Stern said Leno “seems to be the kind of showbiz animal who won't let go.” He said Leno was “fired” and that a “man” would move on. Guess he was on Team Coco, huh? Leno also apparently has an adverse effects on the shock jock's physical well-being. He said this morning: “Just the mere mention of Jay Leno's name makes me want to vomit.” How do you really feel, Mr. Stern? Howard also weighed in on the rumors that he'll be Simon Cowell 's replacement on American Idol next season. He didn't really answer the question either way, but said “in this economy,” he wouldn't turn down “100 million.” See the video here: See more pictures of Howard Stern here (click any picture):

But there is more to the story… DR. BLOGSTEIN : You had the responsibility of replacing Howard Stern when he went to Sirius Satellite Radio. ROB BARNETT : Piece of cake, right? STEVE LANGFORD : This we have to hear. The former CBS executive in charge when Howard left that sad cemetery of stations in late 2005… ROB BARNETT : The real truth of it has never completely come out. STEVE LANGFORD : So many stories, so little time for Rob Barnett, who was at the wheel when CBS Radio went into a ditch after Howard moved to Sirius XM… ROB BARNETT : Howard is as unique a person in the world that we all live in and he’s completely irreplaceable. STEVE LANGFORD : Barnett revealing a couple of stories about how CBS Radio tried to move on without Howard, on Dr. Blogstein’s Radio Happy Hour … ROB BARNETT : We went to Jon Stewart first—because we worked with him a little bit back in the MTV days—and offered him not hosting a radio show, but the idea of him doing one of the millions of jobs he does, which is produce. And we pitched him kind of a Lorne Michaels concept, where you could really start over from scratch and cast something that would be different than a typical four-hour radio show. STEVE LANGFORD : When that didn’t happen, Plan B involved a couple of other characters from Comedy Central… ROB BARNETT : We had some amazing meetings with Matt [ Stone ] and Trey [ Parker ] from South Park . That never came out in the press, but it was incredibly fun. STEVE LANGFORD : But as everyone knows, the fun stayed at Comedy Central and CBS listeners—those who couldn’t get up to change the station—ended up with David Lee Roth and company. DR. BLOGSTEIN : Did that drive you off of radio? Because that’s a no-win situation. STEVE LANGFORD : More than four years later, the search goes on. Gabourey Sidibe’s mum hits out at shock jock Howard Stern

The mother of Oscar-nominated Gabourey Sidibe has hit out at shock jock Howard Stern’s criticism of her daughter’s weight. Stern poked fun at the Precious actress last week, claiming she would never land another Hollywood role because of her shape. “He can see, you can see, I can see Gabby is a big girl. She’s a big woman, so what’s wrong with that? She’s not like everyone else in the world,” said Alice Tan Ridley. “I don’t see him giving out jobs to anybody, so why should we care what he says? He might not hire her, but someone else [ Read More ] Related posts: Howard Stern backs down from Gabourey Sidibe pot shot Gabourey Sidibe compares Oscars dress to porn Gabourey Sidibe tells V magazine why she is Precious

The time Howard Stern humiliated Nathanial Clay

Howard Stern was having a press conference to announce that his show was finally coming to the air waves in 1991 or around there. He was starting to carry his well known radio show national and Chicago was a huge new market. many reporters came to his conference on a visit to Chicago and it was played somewhere on local radio. he took questions from various reporters and then one familiar radio voice asked Howard a question. it was none other than Nat Clay who had a radio weekend show on WLS radio and was a well respected Black reporter in Chicago. I suppose he was representing the Chicago Defender newspaper in one of his off radio gigs at the time. he asked Howard a sensible question about something and Howard never answered the question. Howard was enthralled by Nathanial’s voice and asked Nathanial some questions instead. he asked where he was from and if every one had that accent. Howard was like in awwe of Nat’s Southern bullfrog voice. He then took questions from other reporters and never answered the key question poor Nathanial wanted to jot down for his report to Black newspaper the Defender.

Five Idol Replacements for Simon Who’d Be Better Than Howard Stern

To be honest, Howard Stern’s honesty makes him the ideal replacement for Simon Cowell on American Idol. But since Stern’s never going to find a job that’s more perfect for him than the one he’s got, he’s not going to make it happen. And so what? We’ve come up with five stars who’d be better than Stern in Cowell’s chair because they’d be good, and, hey, novel idea, they might take the gig. 1. Harry Connick Jr.: Did you see him on the show this past week? So insulting, so abrasive, so perfect. OK, so, the digs at everybody from gay Ellen DeGeneres to diabetic Crystal Bowersox were gags, but he had the bite to pull ‘em off. On Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show, the Idol host didn’t sound averse to the idea of Connick as judge. And neither did Connick. The crooner said he’d be up for the job as long as “they let [him] wear a wig and have a gavel.” 2. Adam Lambert: Outside of Stern, there’s not a pick that would raise more eyebrows—or generate more heat—than this glam alum. If his guest mentor stint on Elvis night was an audition, he passed when he dropped a “boring” on Andrew Garcia. If you wonder if he’d put his burgeoning music career on hold to go Hollywood, then ask yourself what Elvis would have done? (For the answer, see Blue Hawaii—and about 30 other flicks.) 3. Jamie Foxx: The man’s talented, versatile and halfway to an EGOT necklace. Need more? He likes Idol—with next week’s scheduled appearance, he’ll be a repeat guest mentor. Need more? He told Party Girl’s Cristina Gibson he’d “love” Cowell’s job. Need more? Tim Urban endorsed him. (OK, we should’ve stopped when we were ahead.) 4. Nygel Lythgoe: What do you say to the guy who had the British bite to suggest the show’s entire judging panel be gutted? “You’re hired.” And, yes, we know he’s busy with So You Think You Can Dance, but as a onetime Idol exec, he’s got experience juggling both shows. 5. Paula Abdul: We miss her. Idol reportedly misses her. And judging by her flirtation with Star Search, she misses her talent-show self, too. There’s still time to get her—and the show’s mojo—back. Before Cowell steals her away for The X Factor.

Howard Stern Discusses Small Business Marketing

Howard Stern NEW YORK, NY – On May 1, 2010 in the New York News Today website, there is a good article by Small Business Marketing Coach, J D Moore entitled, 5 Things Howard Stern Can Teach You About Small Business Marketing . Good call by Mr. Moore. Who would expect such business acumen from a radio “shock jock” and who would even bother to pay attention? It just “shows to go ya” that people will surprise you so it pays to pay attention. Howard Stern’s advice is right on the money. He clearly demonstrates that he has a good sense of business and the branding that is necessary for success. I’m not a fan of Howard Stern. I don’t particularly like his brand of entertainment. But I have to hand it to him because he’s good at what he does. Here is a summary of the points in the article: 1. Tightly Targeted Market Know your audience and consistently give them what they want. This is what Howard Stern does. He knows his audience. He is unapologetic. He doesn’t water down what he does or try to make it more palatable for a bigger audience. Keep a tight focus on what you have to offer. This makes it more likely that your brand will be known and recognized. By targeting his market very tightly he has built an audience of millions of very dedicated fans. He knows that some people won’t like him, and he’s fine with that. Small business marketing should be tightly focused. It is true that many people will be disqualified from becoming your customers, but if there are enough of them, then you’ll stand a better chance of finding them and keeping them. 2. Consistent Brand Make sure your message is always the same. Don’t waffle about. Keep it consistent. Brand recognition depends on a consistent message or consistent quality. When you tune in to Howard Stern you’ll always know what you’re going to get. People who like him will always come back for more because his message is always the same. They know what to expect from Howard Stern and they can rely on it. He always delivers. Customers are usually loyal because they go to a lot of trouble to find what they want and they like to keep it that way. Don’t take advantage of customer loyalty or you’ll lose them. It takes a lot of effort and expense to get new customers and a lot less to keep them as long as you keep delivering what they want. One bad buying experience is enough for you to lose them. Customers become accustomed to consistent quality and they expect it. 3. Authentic Branding Be sincere. Be honest. Don’t try to pull the wool over the customer’s eyes. Customers are not stupid. They know when they’re being lied to. With Howard Stern you get the sense that he is 100% honest and that he is putting his real self forward. When he takes the microphone, his story appears to be authentic. He is not afraid to present himself in an unflattering light. Today there is a movement in marketing to present a truly authentic message. People have learned not to trust advertising, so today’s consumers are a lot more savvy than those of the past. BS just doen’t sell, so marketers need to find more honest and sincere ways to connect to their audience. Self-deprecating marketing is not always recommended, but it has worked in the past. Avis built their marketing reputation around the slogan, “We try harder” because they we’re number 2 behind Hertz Rent-A-Car. 4. Multiple Channel Presence We have a future article planned around this one point. Find and use multiple channels of distribution for your product or service. Howard Stern is known primarily for his radio show, but he had a successful running TV show and has also made successful forays into books, movies, and the Internet. Good marketing should reach it’s target via multiple channels. Every small business should have a website, an email list and do direct mail. You should create customer referral programs and get customers to become your salespeople. If you have a brick-and-mortar location, you should have a nice, attractive space, have good signage and advertise locally. You can also sponsor events and speak in front of groups. As a small business owner, you need to constantly remind people who you are and what you have to offer. 5. Embrace Technology This is one point where a small business could easily fall behind – especially for those who are not tech savvy or slow to adapt to new technology. Howard Stern recently moved from free commercial radio to paid Sirius satellite radio. He also does On-Demand cable broadcasting. These moves demonstrate that he’s on the cutting edge of technology. Radio will be changed forever because the audience he will bring with him will bring economic pressures to bear upon it. Technology can give a small business the leverage it can use to compete with larger companies who have more resources. Technology resources are cheap but far-reaching. A small business owner can use web sites, podcasts, blogs, email lists, message boards and forums and social networking to reach millions of people. The communications tools available to small business are mind boggling. If you are not comfortable with technology, then you should step outside your comfort zone and get some education. Attend classes and seminars and read publications to stay up to date. Make some new friends … get with it.
