By Jocelyn Vena Howard Stern Photo: MTV News For quite some time now, there have been rumblings that Howard Stern could replace Simon Cowell on “American Idol.” But does Stern even watch the show? Well, as it turns out, he does, and he has a pretty good idea of who he thinks will win this season, as the final two go head-to-head Tuesday night (May 25). “I watch it religiously. I believe Crystal Bowersox will win,” he said at the NYC premiere of “Sex and the City 2.” “I don’t think the show has been great this season. That’s why their ratings have dropped a little bit. The judges have been a little soft. I think it’s time to mix it up, make it a little more exciting again, but what do I know?” Stern could be the guy to mix things up a bit alongside Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson. Though, he’s kind of torn about whether he’d even want to do it. “I don’t know if I’m going to be the next Simon Cowell,” he said. “Quite frankly, I think I’m a little more talented than that. I like Simon. I think he’s great, but I tend to do more than break people’s hearts, their dreams. I really don’t think that’s my kind of job, but for that kind of money, I’d do it.” Stern said his plate is already pretty full. “I don’t think they can get me, ’cause I’ve got a radio show. I’ve got Howard TV. That keeps me very busy, and quite frankly, judging a bunch of kids singing, I mean … what am I going to do?” So if not Stern, then who? “I really would have no idea. Ellen DeGeneres, I think she’s proven she’s a nice talk-show host, [but] she doesn’t offer anything,” he said about this season’s rookie judge.
