Eff A Thug: Trial Date Set For William Balfour Who Is Responsible For The 2008 Slayings Of Jennifer Hudson’s Family in Chicago

A judge on Thursday ordered a man charged in the 2008 Chicago slayings of Jennifer Hudson’s mother and two other family members to stand trial in April, despite the objections of his attorney, who said she was not ready. After listening to William Balfour’s attorney say she’s still building her case, a clearly exasperated Cook County Judge William Charles Burns said it didn’t appear she was making any progress and set a date. Burns, who suggested he wanted to start the trial next month, instead ordered jury selection to start April 9 and testimony to begin April 23. He said he expected the trial to last about three or four weeks. Amy Thompson, a deputy public defender, said despite working 12 to 14 hours a day on the case, she could not answer that she was ready for trial, as prosecutors had done. “We’re not prepared for trial at this time,” she said. Balfour, 30, is the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister, Julia Hudson. He is charged with first-degree murder in the October 2008 slayings of the Hudson sisters’ mother, Darnell Donerson, their brother, Jason Hudson, and Julia Hudson’s 7-year-old son, Julian King. Prosecutors allege that Balfour, using a gun he stole from Jason Hudson, shot the three in a jealous rage because he was angry that Julia Hudson had been dating another man. He is accused of shooting Donerson and Jason Hudson in their South Side home, and then grabbing the boy and shooting him inside Jason Hudson’s SUV. The boy’s body was found three days later in the vehicle on the city’s West Side. We hope they lock this muhfugga up and throw away the key. Source More On Bossip! Jennifer Hudson Drops Some Cleavage

Now that Jennifer Hudson has lost all that fat chick weight eating nothing but mail-order food, delicious, she’s decided that it might be a good idea to at least attempt to drop some cleavage. Here she is at some party in her mustard colored dress showing off what her momma gave her. Or at least half of what her momma gave her, the other half is in some sort of Weight Watchers laboratory somewhere. Still works.

Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’ Is MTV’s Song Of The Year!

British belter’s hit tops MTV’s list of the Best Songs of 2011. By James Montgomery Adele Photo: Columbia Was there any doubt? Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” has topped MTV’s Best Songs of 2011 . The megahit so dominated 2011 that calling it the Song of the Year is putting it mildly. And we’re not just talking commercially — though it was the year’s best-selling track — or critically, mostly because focusing on those details fails to tell the whole story. In a lot of ways, “Deep” was bigger than all that. It was a genuine cultural touchstone, the rare zeitgeist-seizing thing that kept crossing genres and platforms and demographics (quick, try to name somewhere you didn’t hear it) until there really were no borders left to bust. It was a complete throwback, a reminder of an era when folks actually bought music and one single could drive an album for months and months. It was the rarest of phenomena in these increasingly temporal times, an actual defining piece of work — not just for Adele, but for the entirety of 2011. Try as hard as you might, you probably can’t name the biggest song of 2010, but in 10 years’ time, you’ll still remember that “Rolling in the Deep” owned 2011. That accomplishment is all the more noteworthy when you consider that “Deep” dared to focus on emotions that fall outside the usual parlance of pop, circa 2011. It is not about partying or falling in love or material excesses. It does not try to be uplifting or inspiring. There is not a single Will Ferrell sample to be heard anywhere. It is, simply put, a total bummer of a breakup tune, with Adele sifting through the ashes of her failed relationship, the scorned lover who can’t help but lament that, really, “We could’ve had it all.” Of course, she’s not exactly a shrinking violet, either, and “Deep” seethes with genuine anger too. No matter how classy her voice may be, there’s nothing quite as real as her promise to “lay your sh– bare.” It strips away the artifice and adjectives and exposes the raw nerve that pulsates within anyone who’s ever had their heart broken. And, really, that’s everyone. So given that sentiment, perhaps it’s not exactly shocking that “Deep” was such a massive hit. Then again, given everything else, maybe it is. A deceptively simple song, it rolls along on little more than a stubby guitar line and pounding, primal drums and yet it packs a 10-megaton wallop, thanks entirely to some ugly emotional bloodletting and Adele’s sonorous, searing pipes. When she hits that chorus, you not only feel her pain, you can relate to it. That’s what sets the truly great songs apart from just the good ones, and “Rolling in the Deep” is unquestionably a great song, one that you’ll remember for years to come. Which is why simply calling it the Song of the Year is selling it short; it’s something bigger entirely. Consider it the anthem to end all anthems, the feel-bad song of our time, the antidote for the Auto-Tuned masses. But maybe it’s best just to call it Adele’s coronation into the ranks of the all-time greats. She’s now and forever the Queen of Pain . Long may she reign. Avicii Calls #6 EDM Artist Of The Year Nod ‘A Big Honor’

‘2011 was the best year of my life, with so many new experiences,’ dance-music superstar tells MTV News. By Adam Stewart Avicii Photo: Ben Hider/ Getty Images 2011 just keeps getting better for Avicii . The 22-year-old (born Tim Bergling) has had a marquee year, to say the least, and to add to his list of accolades, he’s landed at #6 on MTV’s Best EDM Artists of 2011 list. Earlier this week, Avicii took some time out of his insane tour schedule to talk to MTV News and thank his loyal following. “It was obviously a big honor for me,” Bergling told MTV News. “I feel very humbled by the support that my fans have shown me this year.” Avicii’s massive success has made him one of the most sought-after live acts on the planet, hitting quite literally every corner of the globe, wooing masses of fans along the way. And with his upcoming sold-out New Year’s Eve show in New York City, he’s capping the year with a bang. Playing a 135,000-square-foot room on the Hudson River flanked by rising stars Arty and Swanky Tunes, Avicii will have a fitting finale to the year when he became a household name. “2011 was the best year of my life, with so many new experiences,” he said. “Just looking back at it, I feel so fortunate to have been able to visit all of these places and meet all of these different people.” “Levels” was one of the most recognizable tunes of the year across all genres, and “Sunshine,” his Grammy-nominated co-production with EDM vet David Guetta, is a club smash. Add a massive collection of unreleased, “show only” tracks and bootlegs to an already-impressive catalog and it’s easy to see the impact he’s had on the scene. The future is indeed bright for the young Swede, and he’s already getting his ducks in line for a busy year ahead. “2012 is looking packed already with gigs and production time,” he said. “I’m looking forward to being able to keep doing what I’ve been doing this past year.” All this week, watch “AMTV” on MTV every day at 8 a.m. ET for our Best of 2011 lists. Jennifer Hudson Explains: David Otunga Saved My Life

Jennifer Hudson has kept mostly quiet about the tragic shootings that took the lives of her mother, nephew and her brother in 2008. But the singer reveals a fascinating nugget in the latest issue of Ebony : she was very close being in the same house as them when the incident took place. Turns out, fiance David Otunga called Hudson to come down and spend time with him in Florida prior to the day in question. “I flew out to see him; that’s why I’m still here,” Jennifer says. “I’ve never said that before, and I can’t believe I just said that now. But I didn’t know. He was just like, ‘I’m going to this wrestling thing, and it’s in Tampa. I’m going out there now, so you can come out there and see me versus going home.'” Otunga is the father of Hudson’s two-year old son. Regarding the deaths of her relatives, this Oscar winner says the entire event remains a “surreal blur.” That’s certainly understandable.
