Exclusive: Brian Tyree Henry Talks “Child’s Play,” FINALLY Meeting Rihanna, “Atlanta” Season 3, His Morehouse Experience & More!

Source: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images Exclusive Brian Tyree Henry Interview Brian Tyree Henry isn’t a rapper but he plays one on TV–a very relatable and refreshingly complex rapper with a burgeoning career who steals scene after scene (after scene) on critically-acclaimed hit show “Atlanta.” And that’s only one of several power moves for the Emmy AND Tony-nominated North Carolina native currently having an enviable Hollywood run that started with Oscar-worthy masterpiece “If Beale Street Could Talk,” continued with Oscar-winning dazzler “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” and carried over into 2019 with several eye-catching roles headlined by “ Joker ” and… “Child’s Play???” Yep, a next-level Chucky movie that we couldn’t wait to ask him about during the “Child’s Play” press day where we talked (and laughed) about everything from killer doll nostalgia to Black folks in Horror movies to Rihanna in our fave interview of 2019. Let’s get into “Child’s Play”–what were your first thoughts when you realized you were playing a cop in a Chucky movie? “Actually when I got the script it didn’t say “Child’s Play” on it… so I started reading it and the story was pretty damn good. It was a really cool read. And then I saw the name Chucky and I was like ‘Yo…nahhh, there’s no way..’ because I’m like a Horror movie freak–I LOVE Horror movies, it’s my favorite genre and when I got to Chucky I was like ‘Oh sh*t, this has gotta be the new Chucky’ so then I looked at my character and was like ‘oh wait, hold up, this character is actually really brave because, you know , being Black in a Horror movie they don’t really give us good characters–we’re the first people to get killed in the first three minutes of the movie… But in this movie my character Detective Mike Norris is very smart, very charismatic, is really humorous, and literally the relationship he had with his mom, and his relationship with Andy were very important to me and so I was like ‘ok cool, there’s actually a character here’ *laughs* it was something that really attracted me to it. And at the end of the day, I remember when “Child’s Play’ came out in 1988 when I was 6-years-old.. I literally remember the Christmas it came out and, at the time, there was this doll called “My Buddy” and people were going into the store and fighting over these things, man, and it was on the news and I was just like ‘I’m never gonna get one of these dolls’ and as soon as this movie came out everyone threw them away so all that consumerism you were going through to get this doll, once this movie came out it shut the doll’s sales down… and that’s kinda why I like Horror movies because there really is a commentary on the social dynamics we live in.. It really turns the mirror on you to make you confront the things we’re actually afraid of in our real lives and that’s us as a society sometimes. So once I saw this was coming my way I jumped at it because I’ve always been a huge fan of this franchise and Chucky was such a part of my life growing up and I really just liked the retelling of the story they were doing and was like ‘this is actually really fresh and really relevant to today’ because instead of it being a serial killer dropped into a doll as it used to be.. this is like an artificial intelligence… it really is programmed to know everything about your life–like, everything –there’s an upgrade you can download and that’s way more terrifying–that, to me, is way more terrifying that there’s this doll that has access to your entire life. It’s still learning and growing–you’re gonna find yourself actually caring about Chucky–I’m not gon’ lie–I was surprised.. I was like ‘I actually like this dude, I really want him to win out here’ and I really just thought that was fun. It’s been so long since we’ve had a fun Horror movie. That was one of my favorite experiences about going to the Horror movies where I grew up is like, you know, if we’re in a theater full of Black people watching a Horror movie, we are gonna talk sh*t. We’re gonna say how we feel *laughs* and when I saw this I was like ‘Oh my God, this is a callback to one of those movies where you have to have that commentary. You have to clap and celebrate–it’s fun! And I was just really happy to be apart of something like that because that’s kinda what I knew and I’m a big nerd when it comes to this so… it was like me being a kid in a candy store” We realized the legendary Mark Hamill (who played “Luke Skywalker” in the “Star Wars” saga and voiced the Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series”) was voicing Chucky and were like ‘Whoa WHOAAA’ so what was that like for you–a big nerd? “Everything I’ve been doing in my career, honestly, is my inner-nerd just losing its mind and I think that’s why I take the things that I do because I think about myself being that 13-year-old kid at my locker and thinking about what kinda pictures I would’ve taped on the inside of my locker–all of the things I’ve done so far would’ve been in my locker *laughs* so having “Child’s Play” be that other little thing–that other little piece, right there–is great and then Mark Hamill, man, I’m gonna tell you something: the emotion that he brings to Chucky and the wonder he brings to Chucky and the sinisterness he brings to Chucky is really unbelievable and I think that’s why you feel for Chucky the way you do because of him” You got Joker, you got this, you had Spider-man [Into The Spider-Verse]–did you see yourself getting into your lane so fast in your career? No! I still try to act like I don’t see that because I don’t ever want it to take away that kind of joy, that kind of wonderment of what I do. It makes me very happy and I don’t ever wanna get to a place where I’m just like ‘Ohh, you know, tick that box, tick that box, tick that box, because there’s an endless array of boxes to tick for me” How did your experience at an HBCU—Morehouse College–shape your journey (and perspective) in Hollywood? I think that–not just Morehouse in it of itself–but the city of Atlanta shaped that for me because I moved there when I was 18 and I didn’t really start getting into theatre arts until my second semester sophomore year but it was something I’ve always done even in high school I was doing speech and debate and it was always an escape for me because the plays I was told to read or the plays we were given as assignments never had characters that reflected people who looked like me. You could give me Chekhov all day, you could give me Henrik Ibsen all day, but nothing is saying I could be this young dude in Russia so, for me, it was an escape. It was fun to play these parts and run around pretending to be these men in society I was told I’ll never be because of where I’m from and because I’m Black. So, at the end of the day, when I got to Morehouse here I am looking to my left and to my right seeing other people who have the same passion as I do but then I’m also in a city where I’m looking to my left and to my right and everyone looks like me and everyone’s excelling in the same way and the city is giving me space to be who the hell I am– Atlanta literally shaped me into the person I am today and it’s because I saw in a place like that endless possibilities for us as Black people–like, endless –are you telling me I can own a store? We all got our own neighborhoods? Like, what do you mean??? So, for me, it kinda revolutionized how I saw my self within this genre and made me feel like there was nothing couldn’t do and then, here I am, in “Child’s Play” playing this detective that you actually give a damn about…that was icing on the cake” We saw you say that Rihanna made you cry and since we’re talking about Atlanta–where would you take Rihanna in the city if yall were hanging out? What would yall do? “OK, alright! I’ve actually got a chance not too long ago to meet Rihanna–I went to the Gold Party… Rihanna came up to me with open arms–she was like ‘I’ve been watching you, I’m so proud of you, thank you for giving Fenty all the love’ because I’m always reppin like ‘Yo, Fenty Beauty is the bomb, everybody needs to support Rihanna’ and as I’m going in for a hug I break her drink–I drop her drink out of her hand–and I was like ‘are you kidding me? How could you do that?’ and with such grace and poise, as Rihanna does, she’s like ‘no-no-no, don’t worry about it, it’s just a drink, what are you drinking?’ AND THEN SHE GOES TO GET HERSELF A DRINK AND ME A DRINK… So then I’m trying not to cry again but it’s that kinda thing–my inner-nerd–like of course, I made her drop her drink but it was still–I learned a lot about myself *laughs* But yea, there’s nothing greater than to see people from your generation killin’ the game. I feel like I’ve gotten to my rise watching her–like, watching us all excel in this way and its just pride, man. It really just makes me proud but I still broke her drink, though” Is there anything you can tell us about Season 3 of Atlanta? “Thaaaat, it will be back next year *laughs* but know that we’ll be coming back for sure” “Child’s Play” in theaters now!

Tori Roloff Baby Bump: It Won’t Stop Growing!

Little People, Big World? More like Expecting Mother, Huge Baby Bump! Tori Roloff has been keeping Instagram followers well apprised of her pregnancy ever since announcing it to the world — and her latest update makes it clear that her and husband Zach’s second child is really anxious to get here. In other words: Roloff is growing bigger and bigger by the day! We mean no offense by this statement at all, of course. We’re basically just paraphrasing what Tori wrote as a caption to a couple new social media photos. “How are you so big already baby girl?!” Tori wrote along with the following photo, emphasizing once again that ths started showing far earlier this time around than she did back when she had Jackson growing inside of her. Tori first posted a picture of her baby bump back in early June, posing in a very cute manner while presenting her ever-changing body to the world. Check out that memorable snapshot HERE . At this point, however, you can tell that Tori is simply over it. She’s not trying to look especially put together or stylish or anything like that. She’s simply keeping it real by poinsting her phone at the mirror and clicking away. “I got things a size up to fit the growing up!” Tori penned as an affiliated message to the next photo. Just as she did during her first pregnancy, Tori has been very open with followers when it comes to what she’s going through now and what she thinks may happen down the line. Asked, for example, whether this second child will be a dwarf, Tori recently replied “50/50.” She and Zach learned close to the end of that initial pregnancy that their son would, indeed, be a dwarf; just like his dad and his grandparents. As for how she’s feeling at the moment? She revealed a short while ago that this second go-around has been “a lot harder. But still easy. If that makes sense… “I had no symptoms with J other than egg aversions. I’ve got all the symptoms this time.” The Roloffs broke their exciting baby news to fans on May 13. They confirmed both the gender and the general due date at the time as well, saying to Us Weekly: “We are so excited to announce that Jackson is going to be a big brother! We can not wait to meet our sweet baby girl!” This precious addition to the Roloff family is due in November. We can’t wait to meet her! Black Woman Named Marijuana Pepsi Earns PhD After Completing Dissertation On ‘Black-Sounding’ Names

And be clear: Despite her name, she doesn’t smoke nor is she a huge fan of soda pop. Her name is Marijuana Pepsi, and she just got her doctorate https://t.co/RN4rY5dsXJ — Melissa Knowles (@Knowlesitall) June 19, 2019 The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Marijuana Pepsi, 46, stressed that while everyone told her to change her name, she refused to do so. She told the newspaper that her mother Maggie Johnson picked out her name and declared it would take her daughter around the world. Meanwhile, her two sisters are named Kimberly and Robin. While the mother-of-four and grandmother-of-one admits that growing up she was constantly teased by peers and adults, she says that pain helped shape who she is today. “I’ve grown into my name because I am a strong woman. I’ve had to be,” Marijuana Pepsi told the TODAY Show back in 2009. Even better? The name of her dissertation was called, “Black names in white classrooms: Teacher behaviors and student perceptions.” She told the Journal Sentinel that she spent part of her research interviewing Black students at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater about the effect their distinctly Black names had on their treatment by teachers and on their academic achievement. Let her tell it: The young people were eager to share their experiences with her. And she always lets those students know that while her teachers never pushed college on her because they assumed she wouldn’t amount to much, she persevered, and they can too. “Regardless of what they do, say or what they’re trying to put in place, you still have to move forward and succeed,” Dr. Pepsi stresses. Adding, “That’s my big thing. Don’t use that as an excuse. Use that as a steppingstone to keep on going. Leave those people behind and then you reach back. Each one reach one. Reach back and pull somebody else up.” In addition to teaching and  running a performance coaching company , Vandyck, who lives on a farm with her husband, started an annual scholarship award for Black students enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Lily James Ass Flash of the Day

Lily James is a Downton Abbey actress….a show I’ve never seen, don’t want to see, but that is apparently a huge hit at the Old Folks homes… She could be Jesse James’ daughter….you remember him…the Nazi…and this is her ass being flashed at an event, because this is the world we live in. In order to get noticed you need to wear a skirt that is too short for you, let some butt cheek slip out, and if we’re lucky some labia…and in turn…people will talk about you. No one cares about the merit of your acting, we all just assume you were connected in the industry due to family or sucking dick anyway….celebrity doesn’t just HAPPEN for people… So assuming she’s a slut is logical….when her ass is hanging out…in ways that she can pretend wasn’t intentional…but it is always intentional and that makes it far more worthy of staring at it… JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES! Keyaira who wrote a piece on #BlackPressMatters for Hello Beautiful is drawing attention to the fact that a number of your fave celebs skip and snub black writers during red carpets, screenings and the like. Keyaira also pointed out something we TOO have noticed, that certain celebs won’t repost interviews from black media. “No matter how good the interview was, they wouldn’t share it, they wouldn’t post it,” said Keyaira. “I just started thinking about how the black press has played such a huge role in our ability to be seen and be visible and that support isn’t bounced back to our site.” It’s really a crying shame that in 2019 black reporters have to beg for inclusivity, we applaud Keyaira for being at the forefront of the fight. Watch her on “The Breakfast Club” below.

Blac Chyna Trashes Keeping Up with the Kardashians: It’s Fake! Lame! Failing!

It is, sadly and predictably, totally on again between Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna. The exes are back to arguing once again over two of the topics that often cause the most tension: Their daughter… and reality television. Late last week, Rob made it clear – through his attorney, Marty Singer – that the former couple’s two-year old daughter, Dream, would NOT be appearing on Chyna’s upcoming Zeus Network reality series. Due to her age, Dream would need the consent of both her parents to play any role on this program. And Rob refuses to give it. “Please be advised that The Zeus Network does not have Mr. Kardashian’s consent to Dream’s participation in or appearance on the Series or in any related marketing or promotional materials,” Singer said on his client’s behalf last Wednesday. It’s not too hard to understand why a parent wouldn’t want his toddler to be thrown in front of a television camera… … but try telling that to Blac Chyna. On Saturday, the mother of two shared a lengthy and scathing statement on social media in response to Rob’s stance when it comes to The Real Blac Chyna show. “As Executive Producer of my show, It is very unfortunate that Rob could not simply have an adult conversation with me ‘the mother of his child,’ Dream Kardashian appearing on my show ‘The Real Blac Chyna,’” she wrote online. Chyna explained that a significant part of her beef centered on just how Kardashian handled this issue. “Had Rob contacted me directly rather than through his attorney Marty Singer, Rob would have learned about Dream participation in the show,” she continued, adding that she “would never allow” Dream to be “subjected to long hours on the set.” Again, she reiterated, she is in charge of this series. The ex lovers — who co-starred on their own E! program back when they were engaged — agreed to joint custody in September of 2017 following an often contentious romance and that culminated with both side alleging abuse in separate lawsuits. They actually seemed to be getting along pretty well of late. Chyna even recently said some nice stuff about Rob as a dad. And as a sex partner . “I have the ability to control which scenes are included in the show,” Chyna added over the weekend, stating, for example, that Dream was NOT around during the publicized fight on her future show between herself and her mother. The reality star concluded her post by claiming Keeping Up with the Kardashians features Dream in episodes without Chyna’s consent. So, like, come on, dude! “I also would have pointed out to Rob the hypocrisy of his family’s insistence that Dream appear on Keeping Up with the Kardashians in the family’s desperate attempt to boost the dismal ratings for their stale and contrived show, without my approval,” Chyna said. She cited out a recent season 16 episode, which aired in May, that depicted Dream’s fairy-themed birthday party. “My show is about my life and my kids are a huge part of my life. “It’s really sad that everything I do to better myself or my family the same people have something to say to stop or hinder it,” she added. BOSSIP Exclusive: Since The 80’s Artist Asiahn Talks Success, Social Media And Sexuality

Source: Casie Wendel / Casie Wendel Asiahn Speaks About Being Openly Lesbian And Her Singing Career We’ve posted a few things about Since the 80’s singer Asiahn over the last few months but we recently had a chance to meet up during her Atlanta listening party for ‘Love Train 2 for a quick interview. Check it out below: BOSSIP: We love your project ‘Love Train 2,’ what’s next for you musically? ASIAHN: We are going to extend some songs which are short, and I’ve got videos coming out for ‘London’ and “Love Curiosity”, and my own tour coming in July. BOSSIP: Congrats! What city are you most excited to go to? ASIAN: I’m most excited to go places I haven’t been before and to visit overseas. I have a huge fan base in UK, France, and Germany also, oddly Japan. I can’t wait. I’m an anime head. BOSSIP: We first heard of you when you were going by the name Asia Bryant… Who is Asia Bryant? Asiahn: Well, I started with Asiahn in like MySpace days, but everyone butchered my name. So I was like let’s just change it to Asia Bryant because it was easier and even my teachers used to call me Asia, because it was so difficult to pronounce Asiahn. Asiahn is my real name and when I was coming out with ‘Love Train’ I was going through a breakup so I went through a whole “reinventing” yourself moment and remembering who I am. So it was all about Asiahn. BOSSIP: Was it a toxic relationship, or just like a really bad breakup?

Kody Brown, Sister Wives Face Further Financial Frustration

Kody Brown and his four sister wives thought they’d found paradise when they decided to move the whole family to Flagstaff, Arizona . But paradise came with its share of troubles. In addition to the usual drama and fueds, the polygamous family has struggled financially ever since the move. The struggle got even more intense this month, as even more interest piles up on the Browns’ unpaid property taxes. Last year, Kody spent $820,000 on a 15-acre plot of land in Flagstaff.  This is a huge amount of space, even if you do have four wives and 18 children. The property is divided into four parcels, each requiring separate payments. Arizona law forbids polygamous co-habitation. Because of this, the plan was to build several houses on the property.  This way the family could keep each other close and hopefully avoid breaking that pesky law. But, as a  Radar Online report reveals, the plan has encountered major setbacks. A year later, the Browns have yet to break ground on a single house, and they still owe property taxes that were due in December. According to  Radar Online , tax payments are only past due on two of the four plots. Kody, Christine and Robyn own one plot together, and initially failed to pay the amount of $2,063.70. After the latest round of interest, they now owe $2,201.28 The second plot is co-owned by Kody (again), Janelle and Meri. They originally owed $1,990.82, but now that’s increased to $2,123.54,  Radar Online reports. That’s a total of $4,324.82 just to get caught up on taxes. And obviously, it’s going to cost a lot more than that to build multiple houses for the Browns’ enormous family. To make matters worse,  Radar Online now claims that the family hasn’t received any payment for Christine Brown’s former house in Las Vegas. Prior reports seemed to indicate the family had found a buyer, but the house is still listed on the market for the lowest price yet, $574,990. Meri’s Las Vegas house also failed to sell, even after multiple price cuts. Ultimately, it was taken off the market. That must be disappointing for the Browns, who were counting on adding another half a million dollars to their housing budget in Arizona. But we have a hunch that Meri might find having a back-up house useful when she finally decides she’s had enough of Kody and the other wives. Over the past year, it’s been rumored, and even apparent on the show, that Meri isn’t feeling the love anymore. Fans believes that she  may leave the flock . Meanwhile, the many stars of Sister Wives are paying rent on no fewer than four separate dwellings  and  a commercial building in Flagstaff.  That’s an incredibly expensive feat for a family that’s already pressed for funds.  (Moving isn’t cheap, folks) It all makes one wonder if perhaps this move wasn’t very thoroughly thought out.  But the news isn’t all bad. A new season of Sister Wives has begun filming, which means more money is on the way for the Brown family.  Will it be enough to square up the taxes, build several homes and feed 18 children? Will the whole family even stick around to find out? It’s too early to say, but it’s clear that Kody and the Sister Wives may have bitten off more than they can chew.
