Passes to the hotly anticipated horror pic, which was picked up by Lionsgate after a Toronto Film Festival bidding war, sold out quickly online and with fest faves A.J. Bowen and director Ti West (who both star in the film) in town it’s one of the hot tickets for tonight. Is Banksy in our midst as well, spraying movie promos all over Austin? Or Mr. Brainwash? It’s probably not a good sign when your movie’s release date is rescheduled twice and eventually kicked back to January, the doom-iest movie month. Unfortunately, that’s the case with the new Katherine Heigl joint One for the Money , which is based on Janet Evanovich’s 1994 novel of the same name. This past Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP “Jondelle Johnson Freedom Fund Dinner”. I was very impressed. A very elegant, informative, heartwarming, classy event. They invited prestigious VIPS to honor them for their hard-working community service which included NBA star Dwight Howard, well known educator Ron Clark , actor and activist Elisabeth Omilami (Hosea Feed the Hungry) and Maurice “Reec” Swiney. All of the recipients delivered impressive speeches and positive messages. What a great night. “The Jondelle Johnson Freedom Fund Awards Dinner is one of the most impressive lineups of VIP’s to be held in the social justice arena. Mrs. Jondelle was affectionately known as “Mrs. NAACP” to many who knew her. She was the epitome of dedication, perseverance, and service. The Jondelle Johnson Legacy Award recognizes those who exemplify these characteristics.” All the recipients of the Awards gave stellar speeches that were inspiring. The first recipient Elisabeth Omilami recieved the Legacy Award for her consistent efforts with Hosea Feed the Homeless. Upon the receipt of her award she gave a speech of such magnitude that when Dwight Howard accepted his award he referred to Mrs. Omilami as “Maya Angelou the Second.” Dwight Howard speech was very moving because it was so sincere, affectionate and heartfelt. He has helped so many children in Atlanta, across the U.S and Haiti. He stated that a mentor told him at a very early age “to use basketball as a vehicle to change the world”. Last but not least Ron Clark received the President’s Award for his impact on the students at his academy. He was so happy to receive the award that he didn’t want to give the mic back to the President of the NAACP! However, his time was well used. Ron Clark charged everyone at the dinner to make a difference in the life of a child. There were many great guests in the building, including the students from the Ron Clark Academy, Emmy Award Winning Poet, Hank Stewart, and Grammy Award winning Singer Kandi from the Real Housewives of Atlanta. By Rob Markman Donny Goines Photo: MTV News Fire Starter : Donny Goines “If you don’t know my name, I’m not working hard enough.” That’s been Harlem rapper Donny Goines’ mantra since 2006, when he first decided to pick up a microphone. His inspiration, as with so many other up-and-coming MCs, came from Jay-Z. After watching his 2004 concert film Fade to Black (two years after it was initially released), he took on a reworked version of the name of famed novelist Donald Goines and hit the studio. It may have taken him some years to get here, especially considering the pace at which new-gen rappers release music online, but he insists that he is in it for the long haul. “In this day and age, music is so worthless; people make it worthless. The reason why I say that is because they’re so focused on the actual speed of getting music and they’re so focused on the microwave type of music, and I decided a long time ago that I will not do that anymore,” he told Mixtape Daily. “If you can’t wait for me and you can’t wait for my albums, then you’re not really, truly a fan.” After making a splash online in 2008 with his viral video freestyle series “BARS,” Donny went on to release digital projects such as Minute After Midnight, The Breakfast Club and last year’s 20X EP. His next album is the one that Goines firmly believes will launch him into the consciousness of rap fans across the globe. Success Served Cold will be offered as a free digital download and feature contributions from Bun B, Fred Da Godson, XV, Laws and producer Statik Selektah. The album blends two popular phrases: “Success is the best revenge” and “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” “This is like the precursor to my long-term career,” Goines said of the album, which will come in the fall. “I’ve worked my whole career to this album and that’s what makes it so special. It’s something that when people hear, they’re gonna understand the hunger and the drive and the determination.” Donny began working on Success Served Cold in late 2010, and he has even partnered up with mtvU to document a piece of his recording process. “I want to create classics,” he said before recalling how his favorite rappers used to release music. “I waited two years for a Nas album; I waited three years for a Biggie album. The theory that someone kidnapped Michaele Salahi was quickly debunked … but the truth was even weirder, which is standard fare for the Salahis. As we reported last night, the White House party crasher and Real Housewives of D.C. star was not abducted. She was with Neal Schon of Journey. Michaele’s husband Tareq was apparently as blindsided as everyone else, saying he considered Neal and his band members “friends” … until now. Contrary to Tareq’s belief that his wife had been kidnapped, Michaele Salahi in fact was with Neal in Tennessee, bouncing from one Journey concert to the next. Tareq has been crying hysterically, according to reports, saying he feels his life is over because Michaele is all he lived for and she’s having an affair with Neal. Last year, the G-Unit rapper dropped his third album, The Hunger For More 2, and during Wednesday’s “RapFix Live” one-year anniversary show , Banks revealed to host Sway that he is well into the recording process for his next album. Whether it will come out on EMI, where he released his last LP, is uncertain. “I’m in between situations now. I completed my situation with EMI and going right back to the drawing board,” LB said. “I’ve been working constantly to just make music for my mixtape series and, at the same time, for my next album. I’m about 18 to 20 records into my next album already.” Actually, Banks was just being modest. While he is getting ready to release his Cold Corner 2 mixtape in the coming weeks, he told Sway that he has quite a few tapes already completed. “I got a couple of mixtapes done. Actually, I had the Cold Corner done for a second, but I just put it off because I could,” he said nonchalantly. “I needed more time to work on everything else. I didn’t want to keep on givin’ ’em a date, givin’ ’em a date and pushin’ it back like it’s an album.” Banks is quite confident about the tape: “It’s a mixtape at the end of the day, but it will be the best mixtape that comes out, hands down, this year.” With all the tracks he has already recorded, fans can surely expect a handful of collaborations. Banks didn’t reveal any upcoming features, but when a fan tweeted a question, asking if the Queens, New York, spitter would partner up with onetime G-Unit foe Nas, Banks couldn’t say for sure but didn’t rule it out. “I don’t know,” he said. “I’ll be down for it, though.
