I’ve had a long day of blogging, mostly because I haven’t been this hungover in a long time, so I thought a good way to finish off the week would be with some shots of a bunch of hotties at the Miss USA pageant in their bikinis. It’s not making my head feel any better, but other parts of my anatomy are starting to wake up a little. I especially like the skinny blonde ones. Iconic rapper would have turned 40 years old on Thursday. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by MTV News Tupac Shakur in 1992 Photo: Amalgam Digital Had he lived, Tupac Shakur would have turned 40 years old on Thursday (June 16). The sometimes enigmatic, always fiery rapper would have been a grizzled veteran looking back with nostalgia at the exploits that made him the model of hip-hop machismo and passion. But in an interview with MTV News in 1992, the late rapper expressed eloquently why he wanted no part of the “role model” title he was destined to be tagged with. “I say I don’t want to be a role model in the song, because if I let somebody put the role-model label on me, that limits me,” Tupac explained, referring to his song “Ghetto Gospel.” “Because look at those words, ‘role’ and ‘model.’ Both of those are fake words, to play a role and to model, that’s fake. I’m real. Being real, I drink, I hang out, I party — I do things that a 21-year-old does. And even worse, because I didn’t have a childhood, I’m reliving my childhood. I live life to its fullest, I make mistakes, but I do some stuff that some college kids wouldn’t do, because I live from my heart. I have fun. I don’t want to be a role model, I just want to be real.” If Tupac was anything, it was real. He openly admitted his flaws in interviews and his rhymes, and was known for being fiercely loyal, almost to a fault. The “California Love” rapper never wanted his success to prevent him from being relatable to his friends in the “outer city.” (“It’s the outer city because we’re always left out,” he said.) Never forgetting where he came from was a theme heard throughout ‘Pac’s music and was a trait inherent in people he saw as heroes. ” ‘Role model,’ that’s the word that they make. In the outer city, we don’t have it,” Tupac said. “We had [Mike] Tyson, Tyson was the perfect outer-city hero because he was always on the edge, they always wanted to make him a different type of person. But he would never be that, he would always be on the edge, and they hated him for that. They punished him because he never legitimized himself. He hung in clubs. He was the only person I knew that had millions that hung around with rappers. The only black person I know that made it to that millionaire status and then treated rappers with dignity.” ‘Pac continued, “Every entertainment person who has money looks at rappers as ignorant people with mics, holding our jocks, wearing Kangols and big gold chains. Mike Tyson was the only person I can remember being a millionaire and a real brother. And he was my hero, and I want to be like that. And I want more people like that.” Tragically and ironically, Tupac would be shot multiple times on September 7, 1996, after attending the Mike Tyson vs. Bruce Seldon boxing match at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. Although one of hip-hop’s most recognizable stars would succumb to his injuries about a week later, his legend has only risen since his sudden death nearly 15 years ago. Singer is expected to appear at Santa Monica mall on Monday after being treated for food poisoning, exhaustion. By Jocelyn Vena Selena Gomez Photo: MTV News After news broke on Friday that Selena Gomez had been hospitalized , the singer resurfaced over the weekend and was seen getting more medical attention. A photo was taken of the singer going to a Los Angeles-area hospital on Saturday. In it, the star looks a bit under the weather, sporting a striped tank and white jeans. Usmagazine.com reports that the singer, who fell ill shortly after appearing on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on Thursday night, is being treated for a combination of food poisoning and exhaustion. Gomez also showed up on the Internet, taking to her
Hanson, Kenny G and ‘Glee’ stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale also guest-star in teen-movie homage. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry in her “Last Friday Night” video Photo: Capitol Records What happened “Last Friday Night” ? Katy Perry’s alter ego Kathy Beth Terry is trying to figure that out. In the just premiered video , directed by Marc Klasfeld, Perry pays homage to the teen flicks of the ’80s, with the help of quite a few famous friends. In the midst of a rousing game of sudoku, the brace-faced, headgear-wearing, nerdy Kathy seems initially mad at the house party going on outside. So, what’s a girl to do? Well, try to reason with the revelers and get them to stop, obviously. But those revelers happen to include “Friday” singer Rebecca Black, house band Hanson, with an assist from Kathy Beth Terry ‘s crazy uncle Kenny G, and “Glee” stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale, the latter of whom has a mad, fantasy-tinged crush on Kathy. And soon, rather than put an end to the festivities, she’s drawn into the party, which includes the tropes from movies like “She’s All That,” “Can’t Hardly Wait” and about five flicks by John Hughes. After Black gives Perry a makeover, complete with spandex, big hair and funky earrings, she’s hanging with all of the cool kids. She’s drinking, dancing, vomiting and falling over drunk, while the song’s lyrics talk about regretting the Friday-night actions that are inevitably documented and spread online. And, of course, it all comes back to Saturday morning, when a hungover Kathy is both pleased and shocked by what happened the night before, as her passed-out guests and Facebook page remind her of it all. Her parents arrive on the scene, but they don’t seem too angry at her party-girl antics, maybe because they’re played by Debbie Gibson and Corey Feldman. The only real casualty of the party? Kathy’s solar system model! Related Artists Katy Perry

Fans tell MTV News they’re drinking water, slathering on sunscreen and frequenting the air-conditioned comedy tent. By James Montgomery A general view of the atmosphere during Bonnaroo 2011 Photo: FilmMagic/FilmMagic MANCHESTER, Tennessee – Temperatures nearly touched triple digits at Bonnaroo on Friday (June 10), scorching the grounds of the 700-acre farm the fest calls home and forcing the 80,000 in attendance to get creative when it came to beating the heat. Concertgoers hung portable fans around their necks, clutched squirt-guns and paper fans, hid beneath umbrellas and guzzled water from tubes in their CamelBaks. And when all else failed, they stripped down and showered in Bonnaroo’s famed Centeroo fountain. Anything to keep cool. “Pretty much we’ve been going back and forth to the fountain all day, trying to cool off that way,” concertgoer Ryan Smith told MTV News. “Everyone’s pretty chill and really nice about sharing space in there.” By midday, the water flowing from the fountain had started to turn brown (an annual occurrence at the fest, regardless of the temperature), but that didn’t stop fans from frolicking in it. And as the crowd in and around the fountain continued to swell, some were forced to abandon hope of a quick bath in favor of other cooling methods. “It’s like a-hundred-and-something degrees at Bonnaroo right now. It’s epically hot,” said Stephanie Hammel, who came down from Long Island for Bonnaroo 2011. “We’re staying cool by drinking lots and lots of water. Using a lot of sunscreen. Putting ice cubes down our shirts.” “We keep a couple bottles of misters on us, so that helps. But the secret is the comedy tent,” Aaron Devens revealed. “It’s air-conditioned, so you can go in there and just stay there. I think I saw, like, a dozen comedians already.” Then again, brutal temperatures are nothing new at Bonnaroo, and with a Friday night schedule that included high-profile sets by Arcade Fire and Lil Wayne (to name just a few), most had no other choice but to take off their shirts, slather on the sunscreen and just deal with the sweltering heat. “I mean, it’s really hot. It’s hot as — excuse my French — balls. There’s not a lot of shade,” Anna Vega laughed. “But, I mean, that’s how it is. Someone’s going to have to drag me to go see Lil Wayne tonight.” What are your keeping-cool tips at summer festivals? Let us know in the comments below! ‘They were like, ‘We want to do exactly what you’ve been doing,’ ‘ the ‘Gucci Gucci’ femcee tells MTV News of why she inked with Columbia. By Steven Roberts Kreayshawn Photo: Michelle Crowe A month ago Kreayshawn was the girl “cooking” and partaking in other recreational activities with Lil B the Based God in a random online video (they’re listening to Soulja Boy’s “Dat Piff,” naturally). And honestly, unless you were from the Bay Area, hung out around Fairfax in Los Angeles or had your finger on the pulse of underground hip-hop, you probably didn’t know her name. That quickly changed about four weeks ago when she dropped the video for her song “Gucci Gucci.” The video featured the pint-size, Bay Area rapper performing alongside Odd Future’s Left Brain, Jasper Dolphin and many of their friends, at OF’s stomping grounds on L.A.’s Fairfax Avenue. At a house party, she’s seen rapping about the swag dripping out her “ovaries.” The video soon made her an instant sensation on several blogs and eventually earned the interest of several record labels. Earlier this week, it was announced that Kreayshawn had signed with Columbia Records . MTV News caught up with one-third of the White Girl Mob on Thursday afternoon, and she said the deal offered her an incredible amount of artistic freedom, which she was already enjoying. “Columbia was the best because they were like, ‘We want to do exactly what you’ve been doing.’ I’ve been directing music videos, so they’re like, ‘We want you to keep doing that.’ I do a little graphic design, and they had me make my logo. The music that I’m making — ‘Gucci Gucci’ — [is] going to be the single that they push,” Kreayshawn told us. The femcee also said she’s conscious that some have already pegged her as a viral, one-hit wonder, but promised she has a lot more to offer. Still, she admitted, it can be frustrating to have critics put her in a box. There’s a lot of Kreayshawn material — beyond her 2010 mixtape Kittys x Choppas — the public hasn’t heard yet. On the flip side, the MC is enjoying the love from fans. The best part of the recent music industry whirlwind, Kreayshawn said, is how organically her early success has unfolded. “We never made the [‘Gucci Gucci’] video with the intention of anything. We knew it was a great song, we knew that the video [was] going to be dope. We didn’t put it out like we knew this was secretly going to launch everything, because everything was organic.” What do you think of Kreayshawn? Sound off in our comments section!
