Fox Gets New Superhero Drama Black Lightning A brand new Black superhero series could be coming to a TV near you The Hollywood Reporter : The project hails from Warner Bros TV., where Berlanti and the Akils are under overall deals.Fox may soon be adding another DC Comics character to its roster. The network has given a pilot production commitment to Black Lightning, the black superhero drama from prolific superhero series producer Greg Berlanti, and The Game’s Salim and Mara Brock Akil, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. One of DC Comics’ first major African-American superheroes, Black Lightning was created by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden and debuted in 1977. The hourlong drama will center on Jefferson Pierce, who hung up his suit and his secret identity years ago. However, with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning. The Akils will write and exec produce the project with Berlanti and his producing partner Sarah Schechter. Their respective banners, Akil Productions and Berlanti Productions, will produce in association with Warner Bros. TV. Should Black Lightning be picked up, it would be one of the first broadcast series to feature an African-American superhero as its lead. Angela Simmons’ NYC Baby Shower The time for Angela Simmons’ bouncing baby boy is drawing nearer…so of course it’s time for a party! The reality diva celebrated the upcoming arrival of her son with an extra sweet baby blue theme, treating guests to a layout of sweets, candies, signature cocktails, and fried snacks at Sugar Factory NYC. Via E!online : Angela Simmons celebrated the anticipated arrival of her baby boy in the sweetest way possible. The 28-year-old Growing Up Hip Hop star and daughter of rapper Rev Run gathered with all of her nearest and dearest today at Sugar Factory in New York City for one gorgeous baby shower. Angela walked in extremely happy and so excited to see her friends and close family that were there to celebrate. The tables were decorated with various shades of blue and silver ribbons, and included some small centerpieces on the tables, which were accented with hydrangeas from Diva Blooms. The simple yet classy affair included friends and family members, who were all up and mingling with one another. When they weren’t catching up with the pregnant star, taking selfies, or making use of the Tap Snap and DJ Zapp photo booth, the attendees enjoyed a feast of food. Guests were served fried shrimp, fries, wings, vegetable and dip, chicken fingers, as well as macaroni and cheese balls. Yes, we’re suddenly hungry, too. They also indulged in Sugar Factory’s signature cocktails, and, of course, their desserts. One of the major complaints Black shoppers who want to buy from Black businesses have is that they just can’t find Black-owned businesses. But now a new Google Chrome Extension aims to help consumers find Black businesses easy. BuyBlack was created by Angie Coleman, an account manager at San Francisco-based CodeHS, and it lists Black-owned alternatives to online shoppers’ favorite retail sites. Here’s how it works: Users install the app then a Black solidarity fist appears in the corner of their browsers, which then expands into a drop down list of sites from Black-owned businesses with similar product offerings whenever they search for items online. There are products and services ranging from makeup and clothing to home goods, art, vacation rentals, food, and more. Fans wanted to know why Gabby Douglas missed Sunday’s VMAs, where her four teammates presented Beyonce with a Moon Man for Best Female Video. It turns out that Douglas is battling a mouth infection that landed her back in the hospital Sunday, her rep told People . “Gabby is back in the hospital tonight being treated for a seriously infected past mouth injury. She continues to have deep swelling and adverse reactions to medication.” Last night, Douglas was feeling well enough to let fans know that she’s on the road to recovery, but it’s been a bit of a painful journey. “Hey guys! Jon Gosselin remains a douchebag. But he’s now a shocked and very angry douchebag. The former reality star, who America had been more than happy to forget all about for many years there, has been back in the news over the past several days or so. For all the wrong reasons. It started with the world finding out how Gosselin works part-time as a cook at a Fridays and as a DJ in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. After we dealt with that troubling information, Gosselin opened up in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. He said at the time that he really doesn’t see his eight children much at all; in fact, he hadn’t hung out little Collin in two years! “Everybody used to come to my house,” Jon said of his eight children; twins Maddie, Cara, and sextuplets Alexis, Hanna, Leah, Joel, Aaden and Collin. Then what happened? “Madelyn and Cara just stopped coming, around 12-13 [years old]. I didn’t question it. We don’t want to take sides here, especially not with Kate Gosselin… but what sort of father doesn’t see any child for two years? Let alone a child with special needs?!? “I’ve felt very alone in this,” Kate said of her struggle to raise Collin and his seven siblings. “By the same token, it’s not something that has only impacted me or him – our entire family has been impacted.” Mady and Cara have made that clear. Do we approve of Kate once again sitting with her kids and discussing their family with a national publication? Of course not. But we approve of that more than Jon Gosselin simply not playing a role in his children’s lives.
