Miley Cyrus Engaged To Liam Hemsworth

‘I’m so happy to be engaged and looking forward to a life of happiness with Liam,’ Cyrus says. By Gil Kaufman Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus Photo: Getty Images Sometimes on-set romances blossom into the real thing. That’s clearly the case with Miley Cyrus and “Hunger Games”
star Liam Hemsworth
, who announced on Wednesday (June 6) that they are engaged. “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” Cyrus, 19, told People magazine. The couple have been dating for three years since meeting on the set of “The Last Song” in 2009. Australian actor Hemsworth, 22, Cyrus’ co-star in that film, proposed to the pop country star on May 31 with a 3.5-carat diamond ring. Earlier this year the couple denied that they were planning a wedding
after Cyrus was spotted with what some thought was an engagement ring. Cyrus began dating Hemsworth shortly after ending a nine-month relationship with model Justin Gaston. It was been an up-and-down ride ever since, with a break-up
in August 2010, a reconciliation and then another split later that year and a second reunion in April 2011. In an interview with Details magazine earlier this year, Hemsworth said he tried to be professional on the set of “Last Song,” but could not help falling in love with his co-star. “What happened happened, and we’ve been together ever since,” he said. “She makes me really happy. When you start, you want to be professional, but when you’re filming those scenes with someone and pretending to love them, you’re not human if you don’t feel something.” life is beautiful — Miley Ray Cyrus (@MileyCyrus) June 6, 2012 Early Wednesday morning Cyrus tweeted the phrase , “life is beautiful,” but has not made any further comments on the engagement. The couple will be busy in the lead up to their not-yet-scheduled nuptials, with Cyrus working on her fourth studio album and Hemsworth filming the movie “Empire State” in New Orleans. After that, he’s off to co-star in the thriller “Paranoia” with Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman and then work will begin on the second “Hunger Games” installment. ‘Catching Fire’ Finnick Fever: Casting Rumors Heat Up!

‘Hunger Games’ sequel reportedly eyeing Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund for the role; let’s take a closer look. By Fallon Prinzivalli Armie Hammer Photo: Getty Images Fans have been rallying behind their favorite actors to star in “The Hunger Games” since the books were released. The most popular character to speculate about is Finnick Odair, who makes his debut in the franchise’s second novel, “Catching Fire.” With the movie set to begin filming in the fall, rumors have been flying surrounding who will land the role of the dreamy District 4 victor. Most recently, Robert Pattinson was linked to the part , and even though fans supported him, he quickly denied those rumors. With countless actors’ names tossed into the casting hat, there’s speculation that the film may be down to its final three choices for Finnick. E! Online reports a source who revealed the top guys in the running are “Battleship” star Taylor Kitsch , “The Social Network” actor Armie Hammer and “TRON: Legacy” star Garrett Hedlund . When MTV News reached out to Lionsgate for confirmation, we received this statement: “Like the first film, Lionsgate won’t be commenting on any of the rumors until we officially announce.” Alongside “Bridesmaids,” “The Hunger Games” is the most-nominated film at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards landing eight nods including Best Kiss, Best Cast and the coveted Movie of the Year. Jennifer Lawrence is nominated for Best Actress, Josh Hutcherson is up for Best Actor and Liam Hemsworth has a shot at Breakthrough Performance. There’s still time to vote for your favorite stars before the awards air this Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET by heading over to MovieAwards.MTV.com . So while we wait to see which film is your favorite and which leading man is joining this incredible cast of stars, we thought we’d take a look at the good and bad of each actor landing the role of Finnick. Taylor Kitsch The Good : If you’ve seen “Friday Night Lights,” you know Kitsch’s ability to play a self-assured character. As womanizer Tim Riggins, he certainly knows how to gaze at a lady until she swoons. Finnick exudes the same arrogant charm — though he’s more of a one-woman man. At one point in “Catching Fire,” he reads a poem to the citizens of the Capitol dedicated to his one true love, and many of the audience members faint, believing it’s about them. Kitsch certainly has that same charisma to capture viewers’ attention. The Bad : Kitsch’s huge roles aren’t gaining him any box-office success. After Disney shelled out $250 million on the epic “John Carter,” it raked in only $30.6 million domestically its first weekend in theaters. Similarly, he headed up Peter Berg’s “Battleship,” which was released in theaters May 18 and currently has a 34 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While he’d be a supporting character to Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss, he may need the success of the franchise more than the franchise needs him. Armie Hammer The Good : Like Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, Hammer played a vital role in a film nominated for Best Picture at the 83rd annual Academy Awards. With “The Social Network” under his belt, he’d fit right in with Lawrence, who was nominated for Best Actress for her role in “Winter’s Bone,” and Hutcherson, whose film “The Kids Are All Right” was also nominated for Original Screenplay. He can hold his own in the spotlight and already understands the fame that comes with a wildly popular film. If the casting directors continue on their award-winning path, choosing Hammer is a no-brainer. The Bad : His tight schedule may conflict with “The Hunger Games” when it begins filming. He’s currently working on “The Lone Ranger” with Johnny Depp and is already linked to three other films with tentative 2013-14 release dates: “By Virtue Fall,” “Cut Bank” and “2:22.” Since this role is so important to fans, they won’t want an actor who may not be able to devote 100 percent to the project. Garrett Hedlund The Good : Hedlund recently made his way to the Cannes Film Festival, where he debuted his film “On the Road” alongside “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart. While the film itself received mixed reviews , Owen Gleiberman from Entertainment Weekly singled out Hedlund’s acting, writing, “The best thing in the movie is Garrett Hedlund’s performance as Dean Moriarty. … [He] is as hunky as the young Brad Pitt, and like Pitt, he’s a wily, change-up actor. He gives Dean eyes that glitter with a seductive enthusiasm that borders on being a little cracked.” Did that last sentence also instantly remind you of Finnick, “Hunger Games” fans? The Bad : While he’s been fairly successful in films like “Country Strong” and “Four Brothers,” he hasn’t had enough roles allowing him to prove his abilities to take on such a large project. The role of Finnick may shock him a bit, especially considering the fame that’s sure to come along with it. But then again, he could always ask Stewart for advice. While we wait to hear who will officially be taking on the role of Finnick, catch your favorite “Hunger Games” actors at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Martin Solveig At Movie Awards: What Did He Play?

We break down highlights from French DJ’s movie-themed set. By Ryan J. Downey Martin Solveig arrives at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images “The Hunger Games” was one of the big winners Sunday night (June 3) at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , where the juggernaut collected several Golden Popcorns against a musical backdrop culled from some of the most iconic film scores of all time. That nostalgia-inducing soundscape came courtesy of DJ Martin Solveig, who remixed themes from classic movies ranging from “Star Wars” to “Pulp Fiction.” The Black Keys, Fun. and Wiz Khalifa all brought the house down as musical guests at the MTV Movie Awards, held at the Gibson Ampitheatre in Universal City, California. The French electronic-music DJ and producer entertained the audience throughout the show, which was broadcast to viewers live as the show went in and out of commercial breaks. Solveig carefully curated a delicious mixture of some of the most memorable melodies from the movies that have shaped generations of popular culture with their stories, performances, tone and dialog. His set was also as much about the present as the past, perfectly summarized by the mix of the Doors and screamo singer-turned-Grammy-winning dubstep standard-bearer Skrillex. Miss a few tunes? We’ve got you covered. Solveig’s selections on Sunday included “Hello” (Martin Solveig featuring Dragonette), Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close,” Skrillex and the Doors “Breakin’ a Sweat,” Kavinsky + Lovefoxx’s “Nightcall” (from the movie “Drive”), “Ready 2 Go (Hardwell Remix),” “Misirlou”(made famous all over again in “Pulp Fiction”), Martin Solveig & Dragonette feat. Idoling!!!’s “Big in Japan (Ziggy Stardust Remix),” various mixes of “The Night Out” and some of Daft Punk’s work from “Tron: Legacy.” And these were the tracks spinning off from the most legendary themes: “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Theme (Martin Solveig Remix)” : Clint Eastwood’s “Man With No Name” spaghetti Western trilogy (which concluded with 1966’s “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”) is the stuff of legend, most recently memorialized in Johnny Depp’s animated “Rango.” For many years, Metallica has opened each and every concert with composer Ennio Morricone’s “Ecstasy of Gold” from “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” with the crowd often singing the lyric-less melody in unison as a series of “whoa-oahs.” If the 83-year-old Italian composer was watching the Movie Awards, he heard his composition mixed up for the modern electro age. “Jaws Theme (Martin Solveig Remix)” : Who hasn’t tried to play the “Jaws” theme on a piano at some point? It’s so simple yet so brilliant, like “Chopsticks” for people who want to remember how terrified they were to go into the water. The music from future “Star Wars” composer John Williams certainly helped Steven Spielberg kick off the modern blockbuster featuring the scariest fish since Moby Dick (OK, technically, neither were fish); they re-teamed on several other films. “Imperial March (Martin Solveig Remix)” : “The Imperial March” has been synonymous with ominous evil, impending doom, villainous tyranny and light sabers that only come in the color red since the original “Star Wars” movie kicked off an enduring worldwide phenomenon in 1977. It’s impossible to hear this theme without picturing Darth Vader boarding the starship transporting Princess Leia, holding that guy up in the air by the throat and demanding to know various things. So cool! “Superman Theme (Martin Solveig Remix)” : Hey, what do you know! Another John Williams score. And another grandiose theme that’s synonymous with the film. The music instantly conjures the image of the late, great Christopher Reeve soaring through the skies of Metropolis as Superman. Whether battling Kryptonian super villains, trading barbs with Lex Luthor or romancing Lois Lane (let’s not mention that Richard Pryor entry), Supes was defined by this killer theme. First Look: Elizabeth Olsen Gives a Glimpse of Erotic Thriller Therese Raquin

Elizabeth Olsen looks modestly dressed in her Victorian-era full-length dresses and hats for her role in the erotic thriller Therese Raquin , which she is currently filming in Budapest, Hungary. Olsen plays the title character Therese Raquin in this project, directed by Charlie Stratton and also starring Harry Potter ‘s Tom Felton and Jessica Lange. Her character is apparently forced into a loveless marriage with her sickly cousin Camille, played by Fenton. Young, beautiful and sexually repressed, Therese casts off innocence for a sizzling affair with her husband’s best friend Laurent, played by Drive actor Oscar Isaac. Needless to say, her dress gets ripped off on numerous occasions, according to The Daily Mail , which featured a number of photos of Olsen on set. Lange plays Therese’s controlling aunt, Madame Raquin, and the story crescendos as Therese’s dalliances with Laurent produces disastrous outcomes. “Some of the film’s themes will include the subjects of imprisonment and punishment, temperament and the human animal,” noted The Daily Mail. Olsen, 23, won praise last year for her starring role in Sundance indie Martha Marcy May Marlene and she will be seen this week in the Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener starrer Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding , which opens Friday. MTV Movie Awards 2012: Seven Things You Didn’t See

From Russell Brand’s improv to Kristen Stewart’s nerves, best behind-the-scenes moments from Sunday’s show. By Eric Ditzian Kristen Stewart wins at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Christian Bale nearly cried. Johnny Depp wailed alongside the Black Keys. Jennifer Lawrence got shot through the head with an arrow. Everyone saw these moments take place at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night at the Gibson Amphitheatre. But back behind the stage, in the wings and on the patio behind the theater, there was an entirely different event going on. And I was lucky enough to have access to it all, thanks to my so-called “God pass,” the highest-level badge allowing me to come, go and gawk as I pleased. I was there when “Magic Mike” star Joe Manganiello, shirtless and clad in a fireman’s outfit, deposited Elizabeth Banks backstage after carrying her off after her Best On-Screen Transformation lap-dance of an acceptance speech. She was four-alarm-fire excited for the help and announced, “I needed Channing Tatum shirtless for my bit to work. But then this guy saved the day!” It was just that kind of party. Check out six other things you didn’t see at the Movie Awards. Emma Watson Was Bummed The 22-year-old actress may have moved on from the “Harry Potter” franchise that made her a star (and a zillionaire), but the gal never forgets her roots. After handing over the Golden Popcorn for Best Male Performance to “Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson — who beat out “Potter” boy wizard Daniel Radcliffe for the win — Watson nearly crumbled into a handler’s arms backstage. Was she feeling like she’d betrayed the hero of Hogwarts? Was it just kind of awkward? Before I could inquire, her “Perks of Being a Wallflower” co-stars swooped in, bringing a smile to her face, and off they all went to the back patio. Kristen Stewart Was Worried KStew didn’t have any interest in winning Best Kiss for a fourth time in a row, especially considering that co-star Robert Pattinson was off promoting a new film rather than kicking it at the Gibson. But win she did, and once onstage, with no lips to smooch in the grand tradition of Best Kiss winners, Stewart implored co-stars like Charlize Theron and Taylor Lautner to join her and do the deed. Shockingly, no one took her up on the offer. She ended up just pretending to make out with herself. The crowd loved it, but Kristen wasn’t sure. Once backstage, Stewart leaned toward a rep and, with a nervous smile, asked, “How was it? Was it OK?” Russell Brand Likes Little Kids The night’s emcee had a long-standing plan with “Rock of Ages” stars Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta to interrupt a commercial break and promote their upcoming rock musical. But Hough — whose boyfriend, Ryan Seacrest, couldn’t make it to the show — instead brought her elementary-school-aged nephew, leading Brand to come up with a wacky bit of improv. To the folks watching at home, it seemed like it was preplanned for Brand to be kneeling down and asking the little boy to take over his hosting duties, but it all came together in a matter of minutes, thanks to Brand. Wiz Khalifa Feels No Pain Wiz barely made it to the show. Just hours before he was set to perform, the rapper was stuck in Dallas . Show producers were trying their best not to freak out. Not Wiz. He hopped aboard “my own little cloud that I float” on, as he told me on the red carpet, and made it to the show. After the performance, the guy was on a serious high, perhaps partly owing to the pungent cloud surrounding his entourage, but mostly because he rocked the hell out of the crowd. He hopped into the backstage area, a huge smile on his face, and shouted to anyone who wanted to hear, “It felt great! It felt great!” Johnny Depp Wants a Band Backstage, while Depp was shredding with the Black Keys, “Prometheus” stars Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender were boogying their butts off. The cast of “Teen Wolf” was saying that they had to be backstage, and in full view of the musical madness, rather than in their seats. And Depp, he was probably wishing he could do this full-time. As he said after the performance, when multiple people suggested he ditch acting and fully embrace music, he said, “I need a band! I don’t have a band!” Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler didn’t seem to care, telling Depp and the Keys, “You the bomb!” Dark Knight Gets Emotional In perhaps the night’s most unexpected moment, Christian Bale appeared to be on the verge of tears after a montage of “Batman” footage, including shots of Heath Ledger, played during the show. Afterwards, Bale, director Christopher Nolan and co-stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman all embraced one another again and again. This was a special moment, clearly, for them all. Nolan (whose teleprompter, alone among presenters on Sunday, read simply, “Ad lib”) was the focus of all the “Dark Knight Rises” well-wishing. “Thank you,” Bale told him. “Thank you,” Gordon-Levitt echoed. “Thank you.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Kristen Stewart Makes Out with Self at MTV Movie Awards

Kristen Stewart. Who knew she had it in her?!? At last night’s MTV Movie Awards , the Twilight Saga star won Best Kiss along with co-star and real-life boyfriend Robert Pattinson. It was the latter’s third consecutive time taking home this trophy, only in this case Pattinson and Stewart did not make out, nor did Rob kiss Taylor Lautner , because he was not in attendance. So, what was a lonely Stewart to do on stage? Actually be funny! She called out for Chris Hemsworth as a make-out partner… then Charlize Theron… and finally Lautner (“Taylor, old friend. Help an old friend. Come on!”). When no one showed up, Kristen was forced to rely on her own lips. Watch the video now and see what we mean: Kristen Stewart Wins Best Kiss

MTV Movie Awards Fashion Face-Off: Charlize Theron vs. Kat Graham

The monologue by Russell Brand may have been unfunny. And the trophy winners – from Twilight to The Hunger Games – may have been a bit predictable, but the 2012 MTV Movie Awards were a hit for at least one reason: The red carpet fashion. From actors to actresses, movie stars to television beautiful, the entry into The Gibson Amphitheatre was simply scorching, and not simply due to the California sun! Two perfect cases in point: Oscar-winner Charlize Theron and Vampire Diaries witch Kat Graham. Compare their looks now and vote on your favorite:

MTV Movie Awards: Winners And Losers

From shirtless strippers to costumed crimefighters, here are the biggest winners and losers of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. By Josh Wigler Joe Manganiello at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ WireImage You win some, you lose some — and believe us, there were plenty of both at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. It was a night that ranged from the darkly comedic to the deeply sentimental, with plenty of poorly deployed penis jokes and tear-jerking speeches to be found throughout the show’s two-hour runtime. Long story short: To say that this year’s Movie Awards was eventful is an extreme understatement. Keep reading for our list of all the winners and losers of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Winner: Russell Brand The show’s producers claimed there were no limits on what he could say and who he could insult, and they were right: Brand was hilariously vicious in his free-flowing assault on the Movie Awards crowd, with highlights ranging from his constant call-outs of “Twilight” and “Hunger Games” to his self-deprecating, Katy Perry-referencing marriage gig. Indeed, he extended a marriage proposal to “X-Men” actor Michael Fassbender — speaking of whom … Loser: Michael Fassbender It’s always wonderful to lay eyes upon the Irish actor, but even his staunchest supporters have to admit that it just wasn’t his night. Fassbender was on the receiving end of many a Fassmember joke, with Brand referencing his “huge, engorged talent” on multiple occasions. He even got his ass kicked onstage by “Prometheus” co-star Charlize Theron ahead of the Best Fight award . For “Shame,” Michael. Winner: “Twilight,” “Harry Potter” and “Hunger Games” Fans Can’t we all just get along? It appears that the answer is yes, we can! All three of these powerhouse franchises walked away from the Movie Awards with wins in major categories. Surprising to few, “Hunger Games” led the pack with Best Male and Female Performance, Best Fight and Best On-Screen Transformation wins; “Potter” walked away with Best Cast and Best Hero; and “Breaking Dawn” snagged Movie of the Year and Best Kiss — the fourth year in a row for both, no less! Loser: Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Taylor Lautner Hanging onto that last point for a second longer — where the heck were these guys when KStew was begging for a smooch? Robert Pattinson was nowhere to be found at this year’s show, and Kristen needed a kissing partner to accept her award. Her “Snow White” co-stars weren’t around to help her out, paving the way for the erstwhile Jacob Black to finally make his move — but nada. All three of them struck out without swinging at a single pitch. Loser: Shirtless Channing Tatum Fans It was clear that “Magic Mike” himself wanted to take it all off when he co-presented the Best On-Screen Transformation award with Matthew McConaughey. Alas, it was not meant to be. Blame McConaughey, who was spot-on with his “thanks for ruining all the fun, Dad” impression. Jerk. Winner: Shirtless Joe Manganiello Fans Where Tatum fell short, Big Di– Richie came through in a big way. Like, seriously big — grind-your-junk-all-over-Elizabeth-Banks levels of big . It was worth it for all the “Magic Mike” fans hurting for some manly goodness after Tatum’s disappointing showing. Loser: Mila Kunis’ Heckler Jennifer Aniston may have won Best On-Screen Dirtbag (sorry, Oliver Cooper), but it was the audience member who heckled presenter Mila Kunis who’s truly most deserving of the award. His inaudible remarks visibly shook Kunis and very nearly prompted a physical reaction from her “Ted” co-star Mark Wahlberg. Anyone who attracts the ire of the Boston actor automatically lands on the loser list. Winner: Mark Wahlberg’s Restraint In fact, let’s give a shout-out to Wahlberg for not losing his cool and getting all medieval on the Kunis heckler’s you-know-what. When Wahlberg caught up with MTV News after the incident, he explained his restraint: “I did say somebody was going to get slapped, but I figure it’s Sunday, I went to church, I’m feeling forgiving right now.” A far cry from the guy who appeared on “The Knife Show” two years ago. Loser: Johnny Depp’s Missing Gold Tooth We kid, we kid. (Although we do hope Depp found that thing eventually.) True to Depp’s unorthodox but awesome nature, the Generation Award winner accepted his new title by rocking out super hard alongside the Black Keys , delivering the single-most rocking performance of Movie Awards night — not an easy achievement considering the badass performances from Wiz Khalifa and Fun. earlier in the evening. Winner: “The Dark Knight Rises” Fans Listen, kids — we promised you some awesome, exclusive, never-before-seen footage from the Batman conclusion, and we did not disappoint. Let us recount the amazingness: Batman and Catwoman teaming up, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake interrogating Selina Kyle, Bane preventing anyone from entering Gotham City with a massive barricade of cars — and that’s not even mentioning the presentation of the footage, which included a tear-felt acknowledgement of the late Heath Ledger and universal applause for “Dark Knight” steward Christopher Nolan. It was an epic, unforgettable way to salute what is arguably the greatest comic book movie franchise in history one last time. Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore.
