Evan Ross is the latest name to be added to The Hunger Games franchise. The actor ( 90210 ), 25, will portray Messalla in the final two installments of the story, coming on board Mockingjay as part of the television crew that films propaganda movies in The Capitol. The character serves as the assistant to Cressida, who will be portrayed by Natalie Dormer . Yesterday, Stef Dawson also joined the cast in the role of District 4 victor Annie. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay will come out in two movies and hit theaters on November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015, respectively. First, of course, Catching Fire will come out THIS November and star Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson, among other big names. We’ve seen the Catching Fire trailer , but now EW has released a new image from the film. It’s none other than Katniss Everdeen in a wedding dress! The Hunger Games sequel doesn’t open in theaters until November, but we get the sense things are going to start catching on fire (sorry… couldn’t be avoided) really soon. Already we’ve seen a lot of the cast in these Catching Fire portraits , plus Katniss and Peeta in the Catching Fire poster celebrating their Hunger Games victory… but with so much time between now and November, it’s just a matter of time before posters and images and trailers start pouring in. What are you hoping for next? More Liam Hemsworth? Perhaps another trailer? Or how about some love for Woody Harrelson? Let us know in the comments!
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will have a panel at Comic-Con next month, Lionsgate announced today in both predictable and awesome news. It’s unclear which Hunger Games stars will be in attendance, but Lionsgate promises that “talent” from the film will be there for the Saturday, July 20 panel. One can only hope (nay, pray) for Jennifer Lawrence . And Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson and Sam Claflin (above) too, sure. But for reals, Lionsgate … J-Law. Make it happen. The Lionsgate panel will also debut an exclusive new Catching Fire trailer and new footage from I, Frankenstein , whose cast will also be on hand. Buy your tickets to San Diego now!
The marketing people at Lionsgate are no dummies. They clearly recognize that celebrity culture has been reduced to “What are you wearing” questions on the red carpet, and are ramping up their marketing efforts for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with the movie poster equivalent: seven character portrait images that depict Katniss & Compay in fancy freaky fashions before the next round of adolescent-on-adolescent bloodshed begins. Based on the images below, the film’s costume designer Trish Summerville should consider establishing a men’s line (as long as she doesn’t stray too far into Stanley Tucci /Caesar territory), but whoa, she’d get ripped a new one by Joan Rivers for her women’s wear. I’m guessing that Jennifer Lawrence /Katniss’ winged outfit is Mockingjay -inspired, and it certainly will be mocked. Thank God JLaw didn’t wear that number to the Oscars. Jennifer Lawrence may star in The Hunger Games , but she’s glad she isn’t hungry in real life. In a revealing interview with Vogue UK , the actress – who has somehow been referred to as overweight by ridiculous critics – comes down on the Hollywood culture and many rail-thin bodies out there. “I’m so tired of the lollipops,” Lawrence says of other stars out there. “It’s hilarious, the way I’m supposedly the overweight one? Like, they got me at the movies yesterday and the caption read something like ‘Curvy star cannot wait to dig into tub of popcorn.’ I mean, C’mon!” Due to the scrutiny of signing on for this mega trilogy, Lawrence explains her reaction the day The Hunger Games premiered. “I was really upset the day that The Hunger Games came out. I was shaking all day wrapped in a blanket. Dude, have you seen what they’ve done to Britney Spears ?” Don’t think Jennifer isn’t grateful, however. She’s quick to say how “lucky” she is to make a living as an actress. But she also makes some pretty great points, doesn’t she?
