Charlize Theron Joins Bald Actress Club

Before the ‘Mad Max’ star ‘skinned the cat,’ Natalie Portman, Demi Moore and more had also shaved it all off for movie roles. By Jocelyn Vena Charlize Theron and her son Jackson Photo: FameFlynet Charlize Theron made headlines on Monday when she was spotted sporting a shaved head for her role in “Mad Max: Fury Road.” The blond Oscar-winner might have been trying to hide the look under a fedora, but it was clear that her locks had been handed their pink slip. The haircut might have come as a surprise to fans of the “Snow White and the Huntsman” star, but she certainly teased it in a recent discussion about the flick. “It’s been three years: It’s time to skin this cat already!” Theron said last month during a roundtable interview. “I’m very excited about it.” To see other female stars imagined with shaved heads, click here. However, Theron is hardly the first Hollywood starlet to shear off her hair for a big-screen role. She joins an A-list filled list of other leading ladies who have also “skinned the cat.” Sigourney Weaver and Robin Tunney Weaver not only kicks ass and takes names as the iconic Ripley in “Alien 3,” but she also sports a super short hairdo. Ripley certainly didn’t need hair to hold her back as she battled alien creatures in the 1992 film. Three years later, Tunney donned the look for her troubled character in the classic teen flick, “Empire Records,” starting the hair-trimming trend of the ’90s. Demi Moore Moore went Navy chic in “G.I. Jane,” lopping off her famous hair to tackle her physically challenging role in the 1997 film. “We were involved and we realized the importance of the event happening — that sign of commitment. … I was ready for it. So, I feel actually more just liberated by the time we got there,” she said of filming the famous scene in which her character, Jordan O’Neill, chops it all off. Cate Blanchett In 2002, Blanchett cut her hair off playing a vigilante out for justice in “Heaven.” “I think you’ve just got to embrace it,” she later said of the look. “You have to be prepared to shed your natural vanity, and if the part requires it, shed parts of yourself that perhaps make you feel more secure.” Ellen Page and Natalie Portman Page joined a cult and lost her hair in the 2005 flick “Mouth to Mouth,” which she made right before her star-making turn in “Juno.” That same year, Natalie Portman chopped her hair off for “V for Vendetta.” In an interview shortly after filming, she opened up about filming the scene. “It was a one-shot deal,” she told USA Today, “and that was the most stressful thing about the experience.” Cynthia Nixon Nixon went fully bald for her recent role in “Wit” on Broadway. “I thought it was kind of gonna be no muss-no fuss, but I have to shave it every day!” Nixon said of the up-keep for the role. “It’s got kind of a five o’clock shadow, and you don’t want to go on with that,” she said. “I was always kind of curious to see what it would be like. I like it; I don’t think I’m gonna keep it forever.” Anne Hathaway Recently, Hathaway caught everyone’s attention when she sported a super-short pixie cut for her role in the latest big-screen adaptation of “Les Miserables.” The look is consistent with her role in the film, where she plays Fantine, an ill-fated prostitute who chops off her hair to buy food for her child, Cosette. ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Sequel Moves Forward

‘I think the corruption of power would be the second one,’ director Rupert Sanders told MTV News of his sequel plans. By Fallon Prinzivalli Charlize Theron in “Snow White and the Huntsman” Photo: Universal Studios It’s time to re-saddle those horses and take up your armor again, fantasy fans. “Snow White and the Huntsman” is returning once more. Universal is moving forward with their plans to make a sequel to Rupert Sanders’ edgy adaptation of the classic fairy tale, following the film’s box-office debut with $56.3 million last weekend . Deadline New York reports that David Koepp is already working on the script, and now the studio is in talks with Sanders about returning to direct. In “Snow White and the Huntsman,” the princess ( Kristen Stewart ) is helplessly locked in a tower by Queen Ravenna until an opportune moment helps her escape. She journeys into the Dark Forest, where she meets the Huntsman ( Chris Hemsworth ), and together they fight the evil witch to win back their kingdom. When MTV News sat down with Sanders last month to discuss the film, he revealed his initial ideas for the sequel, saying Snow White’s newfound supremacy may lead to her downfall. “I think the corruption of power would be the second one. I think we’ve created this very chaste girl who’s got to this position and now she’s in this position of supreme power,” he said. “We wanted to be contemporary with the theme here and I think in the next film we’ll do the same. There’s so many examples of people corrupted by power. When we were talking about it, myself and [producer] Joe Roth, there were so many things happening in the newspapers of these very powerful men abusing that power in hotels and sports locker rooms. People who get powerful sometimes lose their bearings and abuse that power and that’s kind of an intoxicating theme.” While the story line certainly sounds interesting, when we spoke to Stewart at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , she seemed skeptical. “Well, I’m not saying anything. Nothing at all,” she laughed. “Let’s undermine our entire lead character in the very second [film]. It’s like, ‘No, that’s my whole [thing].’ It would be so weird to [make her darker]. It would break me, which would probably be interesting to watch.” “But then we have to rebuild you, which is exciting,” co-star Hemsworth added. The actress, however, has nothing to fear yet. While Sanders is attracted to this character arc for the fairy-tale princess, he’s not positive that we’ll see her go rogue in the sequel. “I’m not sure whether that’s what the second film will be,” he said. “But I like that idea at the moment. You[‘ve] got to play with it a bit.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ Unlike Any ‘Twilight’ Movie, Kristen Stewart Says

During MTV Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week, KStew explains why the final film of the saga left her ‘shell-shocked.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News Even with one enormous summer blockbuster a week away from release, Kristen Stewart excitedly discussed the conclusion to the “Twilight Saga” at a MTV Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week event for ” Snow White and the Huntsman .” ” Breaking Dawn – Part 2 ,” which won’t hit theaters until this November, surely ranks among one of the most anticipated films of the year, and Stewart counts herself among those eager to see the finale. “I’m excited. I have to see it done,” she told MTV News’ Josh Horowitz. “I haven’t seen it. It’s a big deal.” The story for the final “Twilight” will take the story in an intriguing different direction as Bella adjusts to life as a new mom and a new vampire, no longer the plain Jane every-girl. Stewart told MTV News that the change makes for a surprisingly different movie experience. “It’s so bizarre, the tone change. You’ve always been behind her. You’ve always been using her. She’s how you see that world,” she said. “Now that her perspective has completely changed, it’s like ‘Where am I?’ It’s really cool. I, myself, am still a little bit shell-shocked. It’s not like sitting down and watching a ‘Twilight’ movie.” From the sounds of it, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” will likely have more than a few award-worthy moments, much like “Part 1”. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson will be returning to the MTV Movie Awards , airing this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, to defend their long-running legacy as the Best Kiss champions, along with several other nominations for “Breaking Dawn – Part 1”. Snow White and the Huntsman Reigns Atop Box Office; What Did You Watch?

Brava to the dewy-cheeked Kristen Stewart , who opened Snow White and the Huntsman , the weekend’s number one movie, by swinging a sword and championing girl power without having to kiss a single vampire! (Those two hunky human suitors and the riveting fabulosity that was Charlize Theron didn’t hurt either.) Nice to see girls ruling while boys drooled over the box office — well, their male-driven movies ( Men in Black 3 , Avengers , Battleship ), anyway. Tell us what you saw this weekend as we go to the receipts! 1. Snow White and the Huntsman Gross: $56,255,000 (new) Screens: 3,773 (PSA: $14,910) Weeks: 1 Well, well, well. Stewart’s first big non- Twilight movie made a strong showing over the weekend, outdoing Men in Black 3 ’s debut with the one-two-three punch of KStew, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlize Theron. Coming in with the fourth biggest opening of the year, the dark fairytale soared on dazzling visuals even if audiences only gave it a “B” CinemaScore rating. 2. Men in Black 3 Gross: $29,300,000 ($112,300,000) Screens: 4,248 (PSA $6,897) Weeks: 2 (Change: -46.3%) Foreign tallies will help Will Smith and Co. get over their 46.3 percent drop-off – even at only $112 million domestically, the sci-fi threequel has topped $386 million globally, and counting. Still, it’s not quite time to get MIB4 in gear, seeing as the reported production budget was a whopping $225 million alone. 3. The Avengers Gross: $20,273,000 ($552,737,000) Screens: 3,670 (PSA: $5,524) Weeks: 5 (Change: -44.7%) $1.35 billion worldwide and counting. That is all. 4. Battleship Gross: $4,810,000 ($55,123,000) Screens: 3,144 (PSA $1,530) Weeks: 3 (Change: -56.5%) Say bye bye to Battleship as it continues sinking ever faster down the Top 10. Universal’s thanking their lucky stars for the foreign markets right about now, as domestic take has totally a paltry $55.1 million in three weeks. 5. The Dictator Gross: $4,725,000 ($50,835,000) Screens: 2,649 (PSA $1,784) Weeks: 3 (Change: -49.1%) Still just the third-best performing Sacha Baron Cohen movie to date. N/A Piranha 3DD Gross: $179,000 (new) Screens: 86 (PSA $2,081) Weeks: 1 Well, they tried . Kinda . [Figures via Box Office Mojo ]

Snow White and the Huntsman Takes Box Office Crown

Kristen Stewart or Chris Hemsworth… or Neither: Who’s the Fairest Box Office Draw for Snow White and the Huntsman?

You might guess most folks flocking to theaters this weekend for Snow White and the Huntsman are the legions of diehard fans of Twilight ‘s Kristen Stewart , who stars in the fantasy adventure as the sword-swinging Snow White. Maybe, even, they’ll come for co-star Chris Hemsworth — he of Thor and Avengers fame. But surprise, surprise — who’d have thought the big draw, at least for folks who hit opening day today, would be neither of SWATH ‘s up-and-coming talent? PMC Studios’ Beyond the Trailer (owned by Movieline’s parent company PMC) caught up with some early Snow White adopters at the AMC E-Walk today, and they told Grace Randolph they were there to see the Evil Queen — Charlize Theron . What’s more: At least one woman says she actually saw the film despite K-Stew. Also: Props to the older lady at 3:50 dropping truth bombs about dead ugly people, who wants to buy presents for Hemsworth’s children (even though they’d most certainly be impossibly beautiful Hems-spawn, but whatevs). Surprised at all the Charlize love? Agree with the consensus that KStew’s performance pales in comparison to Theron’s near-camp extravaganza? Or are you REALLY in it just to see Hemsworth swing that axe around a forest? For more movie news, commentary, and reviews, check out Beyond the Trailer on YouTube.
