Getty Images Fyre Festival Organizer Billy McFarland Arrested And Charged With Wire Fraud Remember that festival that the rich white kids paid thousands of dollars and flew to a random island for? And it turned out to be a dis-as-ter? Well, the festival’s founder and organizer, Billy McFarland, was arrested at his home in Manhattan on Friday and charged with wire fraud. This charge involved McFarland defrauding investors and presenting fake documents that drove them to invest such large sums of money into the event. McFarland is also accused of telling investors that the company earned millions of dollars from artist bookings, but it was reported that his company earned not even $60K annually. He also showed investors edited images that presented his stock valued over $2.5 million dollars, but his actual share was valued at $1,500. If he ends up getting convicted, he could end up facing a maximum of 20 years in prison. Him and his partner Ja Rule also face over a dozen law suits in addition to their federal charges.

There is ZERO room for any level of racism in a police force that has the power to dictate the life and death of Black citizens. F**k ’em.

Image via PABLO PORCIUNCULA/AFP/Getty Images Legalization Has Cut Police Searches Significantly In Colorado And Washington The debate is still raging in certain states about whether or not to legalize marijuana , but if they need a lil’ chronic convincing, then they might wanna look at what’s going on in Colorado and Washington. NBCNews is reporting that police searches of cars during traffic stops is down 50% since legalization took place in 2012. The change in law even marginally reduced the amount that Blacks and hispanics were searched. Considering the way police have historically used marijuana as an excuse to harass minorities, like officer Jeronimo Yanez did in the Philando Castile case, legalization would certainly be a welcome change for neighborhoods that feel the anxiety of interactions with the police. In both states, marijuana legalization eliminated one of the major justifications used by police officers to stop motorists, cutting searches by more than 40 percent after legalization. In Colorado, the change occurred gradually, with searches dropping initially by 30 percent, and then flatting out to a more than 50-percent drop within a year. For the police, they can look at legalization as a way to continue to build positive relationships with the communities they patrol: “Searches where you don’t find something are really negative towards a community,” said Jack McDevitt, director of Northeastern University’s Institute on Race and Justice in Boston. “Have a police officer search your car is really like, ‘Why are they doing this to me?’ And you get more pissed off. If you’re trying to do relationship building, it’s not a good thing to do a lot of searches.” Doesn’t sound like such a bad idea…
Image via Raymond Boyd/Getty Images White NYPD Cop Says He’s Punished For Not Bullying Black Officer A NYDailyNews story is detailing the retaliation that a white NYPD officer has been dealing with as a result of his refusal to bully a Black officer, Dana Harge. Sgt.Valentin Khazin has filed a federal lawsuit against his department claiming that he’s being punished by having his overtime pay stripped, but also being saddled with extra work and holiday work that keeps him from spending time with his family. Harge was doing his job, said Khazin, who is white. And when the sergeant brought it up that he felt superiors had it out for Harge because of his discrimination complaints, Khazin said he “signed my own death warrant.” This past Father’s Day, the 32-year-old father of a 1- and 1-year-old, said he was kept on duty almost 24 hours because there allegedly weren’t others to help out. In addition to the racial retaliation, Khazin says that this superiors ordered him to give another Black officer a low performance grade because she too had filed a discrimination complaint against another officer. Sounds like par for the course for the shady azz NYPD. They might as well be the KKK with blue hoods.

Matthew Knowles has received an unexpected and unwanted present for Father’s Day: The vitriol of the Beyhive. Earlier this week, Beyonce gave birth to her twins , with multiple sources confirming that she and Jay Z are now the proud parents of child number-two and child number-three. Not much else is known about the blessed event or the babies themselves, although Us Weekly alleges one is a boy and one is a girl. TMZ, meanwhile, reports that a “minor” health issue has led to a lengthy stay for the newborns; as of this writing, they remain hospitalized. Beyonce is also still in the hospital, but just to keep an eye over her kids, both of whom are expected to be just fine. Her father, conversely, is in pretty rough shape at the moment, reputation-wise. Matthew became the first member of the Knowles family to break this monumental piece of news, taking to Twitter on Sunday morning and writing the following: “They’re here! #beyonce #twins #jayz #happybirthday.” Nice, right? Sweet, no? Harmless and inspired by love, correct? Wrong, nope and incorrect, apparently. A legion of dedicated fans have responded to Knowles’ Tweet not with messages of congratulations, but with messages of annoyance and irritation. They’re angry that Matthew had the gall to announce this baby news before the mother herself. “You should delete this and let Bey announce it,” Instagram user @wikimct wrote, while a fellow Internet commentator added: “It’s not real until the queen herself reveals it.” Ouch. Harsh. Over the years, Matthew and Beyonce have not had the best relationship, it’s true. He was once fired as her manager, for example, and he’s divorced from her mother, Tina. But does anyone out there really think Matthew was trying to steal Beyonce’s thunder here? That he isn’t simply a very excited grandfather who did wait to reveal the twins’ birth until after a handful of celebrity gossip outlets had done the same? It would be one thing of Matthew shared photos of the babies without his daughter’s consent. That would be very inappropriate. However, he isn’t revealing anything in this Tweet that hadn’t previously been revealed by approximately 877 other websites first. Beyonce and Jay Z have managed through the years to be perhaps the most famous and most successful couple in Hollywood… while also being one of the most private. They’ve made a career out of controlling their images and their narratives as well as any celebrities out there, which is likely why the Beyhive is so riled up in this instance over Matthew’s actions.
