By Aly Semigran Ginnifer Goodwin and Joey Kern Photo: Jeff Vespa/ Getty Ginnifer Goodwin has had to endure love the hard way on the big and small screen (“He’s Just Not That Into You,” “Big Love”), but now the actress is getting to enjoy the real deal offscreen with the announcement of her engagement to actor Joey Kern. Goodwin, 32, and Kern, 34, confirmed to People magazine that they got engaged on Christmas Eve. “We couldn’t be happier than to celebrate our engagement over the holidays with our families,” they said in a statement. The pair began dating in 2008 after being set up by a mutual friend. Kern (best known for roles in movies such as “Cabin Fever” and “Super Troopers”) asked for Goodwin’s hand earlier in December. An unnamed source told Us Weekly, “Joey emailed all his friends back on the 12th and gave them the good news.” According to E! News , Kern made the engagement even more notable by popping the question with a ring that he had designed himself. In addition to getting ready for their impending nuptials (the two are planning a fall 2011 wedding), Goodwin, who previously dated “American Pie” actor Chris Klein, will head back to work to begin filming the fifth, and final, season of “Big Love,” as well as promoting her upcoming romantic comedy “Something Borrowed.” In the adaptation of Emily Giffin’s chick-lit novel, Goodwin plays a woman who falls for her best friend’s fianc

Can psychedelic drugs treat depression?

– Pamela Sakuda, 57, was anxious and depressed. After two years of intensive chemotherapy for late-stage colon cancer, and having outlived her prognosis by several months, she'd finally lost hope. She was living in fear and was worried how her impending death would affect her husband. Sakuda's doctor prescribed antidepressants, but they didn't do any good. So, at her wits' end and feeling that she had nothing to lose, Sakuda volunteered for an experimental depression treatment being studied at UCLA. In January 2005, with a pair of trained therapists at her side, Sakuda took a pill of psilocybin — a hallucinogen better known as the active ingredient in “magic mushrooms.” It may seem far-fetched that a psychedelic drug associated with muddy hippies at Woodstock would help a cancer patient at a university hospital. Yet it's an increasingly familiar scene. The Standard & Poor's 500 50-day moving average stands poised to cross beneath the 200-day moving average. To those in the financial industry, this is known as a “death cross”, and it is a very powerful indicator that we could be entering a bearish period. So is this yet another sign that we are on the verge of a recession? Well, anyone who has spent much time trying to interpret financial charts will tell you how inexact that science can be. Financial markets can be wildly unpredictable, and there is always a tremendous amount of manipulation going on behind the scenes. However, when you add this impending death cross with all of the other signs that we could be entering a recession, there certainly seems to be reason for alarm. The truth is that financial markets across the globe are full of fear and panic right now. In fact, as noted in another article, the dominant force in world financial markets in 2010 is fear. When fear rules, markets become very volatile and they can fall very quickly. Back in February, Viking confirmed that Bill Carter, the bestselling author of the Late Shift had flown to Los Angeles to begin research on a new book chronicling the latest late night shakedown at NBC. Proof of the project arrived earlier this week online via cover art for The War For Late Night: When Leno Went Early and Television Went Crazy (pictured right) and a September release date. Anxious to hear more about the surefire bestseller, Movieline phoned Carter earlier this week to discuss the impending release date and whether Jay Leno is really as cold and calculating as Conan fans make him out to be.

Having already boldly proclaimed that Lamar Odom got Khloe Kardashian pregnant , a popular celebrity news source is doubling up on suspect baby news: Mariah Carey is pregnant as well, according to Radar Online! If nothing else, it will be an interesting test for this celebrity gossip source’s credibility, as it seems to specialize in vague non-stories one can’t disprove. Bombs like these aren’t often dropped as fact, so if Mariah and/or Khloe aren’t actually with child , then you’ll know how to evaluate Radar from now on. In any case, the 40-year-old singer recently dropped out of her next film gig, fueling rumors that she’s pregnant. Now Radar ‘s source says it’s for real. THG? Still a little skeptical. But here’s hoping. “They’re both very excited and very happy,” dished an insider of Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon, who recently renewed their wedding vows . Mariah’s longtime rep Cindi Berger offered a somewhat cryptic non-denial, saying: “I’m not at liberty to discuss Mariah’s personal life at this time.” The alleged inside source says that it’s the stars’ plan to keep it on the DL: “Mariah and Nick want to keep the pregnancy quiet as long as they can.” Speculation has run rampant about the impending baby since Mariah Carey was spotted with Nick outside an Los Angeles medical clinic in May. Some suggested the singer had begun hormone enhancement therapy and/or IVF; a possible explanation for a noticeable, sudden weight gain. Congratulations are certainly in order for Mariah and Nick if this turns out to be true, but we’re still a little cautious. Stay tuned for more details.

That’s the rumor going around! This unsubstantiated gossip has circulated for days, and no reputable sources have reported it, but people continue to search for details on reports that Gloria James, mother of LeBron, is sleeping with his teammate and friend Delonte West.
