Hi Hater: Matt Damon Says He’s Not Feeling President Obama’s “Hope” Steez Anymore

Uh oh, President Obama has pissed off “Jason Bourne”… Matt Damon is saying Nope to Hope. In a stinging critique, the Oscar-winning actor has turned on President Obama, saying the Democrat he championed in the 2008 race for the White House has not offered change he can believe in. “I really think he misinterpreted his mandate,” Damon told CNN. “A friend of mine said it the other day and I thought it was a great line: ‘I no longer hope for audacity.’ “ That’s a dig at the name of Obama’s best-selling book The Audacity of Hope. Damon rapped Obama’s education policy as advancing test preparation, not critical learning. “The idea that we’re testing kids and we’re tying teacher salaries to how kids are performing on tests, that kind of mechanized thinking has nothing to do with higher order,” he said. He was also unimpressed with Obama’s foreign policies, especially in Afghanistan. Matt can be salty all he wants to, but he better get used to seeing ol’ Barry O’s face because we believe he’s gonna be back for round 2 in 2012! Have any of you changed your stance on President Obama since his inauguration into office??? Source

Desperate Dowd: Savior Obama Losing To Rough Beast Of The Right!

Imagine a movie: Maureen Dowd is seen thrashing around on her bed, clearly in the grips of a gruesome nightmare.  When she awakes, it is not to relief but to the horrifying discovery that reality is worse than anything her fevered brain had conjured. That is the sense of hopelessness, desperation and depression in which Dowd drowns in her New York Times column of today. The piece is one long lament, as Dowd decries the Dems’ fate.  Not only are they on the brink of losing–they are losing to opponents who are not merely wrong but “the worst” and “insane.” Dowd sees things in absolutely apocalyptic terms.   She depicts the right [symbolized by Christine O’Donnell] as Yeats’ beast of the Second Coming, aligned against Obama, whom she portrays as a weary and reluctant savior. What Dem, glorying in the apotheosis of Inauguration Day, could have imagined things falling so far, so fast?  Surely not Dowd, seen reduced to a pitiable personage beating her fists against a bitter fate.

Will Media Notice How Clean Beck Rally Participants Left National Mall?

There was a huge “Restoring Honor” rally at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial Saturday, but you couldn’t tell hours later given how clean the National Mall was:  Compare that to how this area looked after Inauguration Day on January 20, 2009: The Left in our nation is always depicted by media sycophants as concerned with the environment. By contrast, these same people always paint a picture of the Right being exclusively focused on profits with total disregard for nature and ecology. What do these two videos say about this “conventional wisdom,” and will Obama-loving media members in the post-rally coverage of this event point out to readers and viewers just how clean our National Mall was left by these awful, greedy, right-wing extremists?

WaPo Laments False Rumor Obama’s a Muslim: He’s Been a ‘Diligent and Personally Committed’ Christian?

Thursday’s Washington Post reports that a new poll by the Pew Research Center found “The number of Americans who believe – wrongly – that President Obama is a Muslim has increased significantly since his inauguration and now account for nearly 20 percent of the nation’s population.” Team Obama quickly blamed “’misinformation campaigns’ by the president’s opponents.” The Post’s Jon Cohen and Michael D. Shear just pass that along without any specifics. But what’s really shaky is the story’s accuser, Obama “faith adviser” Joshua DuBois, trying to tout how the president is deeply, “diligently” Christian, when the president is much more diligent at golfing than he is at church attendance. The number of Sunday church services Obama has attended since the Inauguration doesn’t get beyond counting on one hand, even bypassing the pews at Christmas. Numerous liberal outlets have giddily promoted that Obama is a Christian because he receives little religious and inspirational quotes on his BlackBerry from his adviser DuBois. (Matt Lauer: “It’s spirituality meets high-tech! That’s pretty good!” ) They also routinely careen around the idea that if Obama is a Christian, he came to Jesus by being for two decades a Jeremiah Wright we-deserved-9/11 Christian . Cohen and Shear naturally avoided that: The president’s religion, like his place of birth, has been the subject of Internet-spread rumors and falsehoods since before he began his presidential campaign, and the poll indicates that those rumors have gained currency since Obama took office. The number of people who now correctly identify Obama as a Christian has dropped to 34 percent, down from nearly half when he took office. White House officials expressed dismay over the poll results. Faith adviser Joshua DuBois blamed “misinformation campaigns” by the president’s opponents. “While the president has been diligent and personally committed to his own Christian faith , there’s certainly folks who are intent on spreading falsehoods about the president and his values and beliefs,” DuBois said. DuBois said the president’s Christian faith plays an “important part” in his daily life. And he pointed to six speeches on faith that the president has given in which he talked about his beliefs. But Dubois said coverage of Obama’s Christianity has been scant compared with news about the economic crisis, legislative battles and other issues. In other words, DuBois is claiming that Obama’s given more speeches on faith than he’s attended a church service to hear a minister’s speech on faith.  Blaming the media for “scant coverage” of Obama’s allegedly devout Christianity is the lamest line DuBois offered. Matt Lauer and other journalists (like Obama’s Five Guys burger partner Brian Williams) would have been more than willing to offer supportive time for Obama to discuss his religion. These Post reporters should have pressed DuBois about Obama’s obvious and public lack of interest in the subject — suggesting that perhaps the idea that Obama’s fervently, diligently Christian is more rumor than fact — and whether that noticeable apathy is a bone to his secular-progressive political base.

Juan Williams: Media Always Make Blacks the Victims and Whites the Perpetrators

Juan Williams on Saturday said when it comes to news stories about race, America’s media always make black people the victims and white people the perpetrators.  As the discussion on “Fox News Watch” turned to last week’s murders at a Hartford, Connecticut, beer distributor, host Jon Scott read clippings from the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Associated Press all claiming the killer had been responding to years of racist treatment. When done, he said incredulously, “Juan, the guy was caught on camera stealing beer and the media turned it into a racial story.” Williams responded in a fashion that likely shocked many viewers (video follows with transcript and commentary):  JON SCOTT, HOST: Those murders in Connecticut last week at a beer distributor near Hartford. This week the business reopened eight days after a guy named Omar Thornton killed eight and wounded two moments after he lost his job for stealing beer. Omar was black, his victims were white, and this is how the coverage went. August 3rd, the New York Times headline read “Troubles Preceded Connecticut Workplace Killing.” And in the second paragraph the Times reported, “He might also have had cause to be angry. He had complained to his girlfriend of being racially harassed at work.” Here is the Associated Press report from August 7th, four days after the murders. It was reprinted in the Washington Post and other places. “To those closest to him, Omar Thornton was caring, quiet and soft spoken. But underneath, Thornton seized with a sense of racial injustice for years that culminated in a shooting rampage.” On August 7th, 2010, the Washington Post headline read “Beer Warehouse Shooter Long Complained of Racism.” Juan, the guy was caught on camera stealing beer and the media turned it into a racial story. JUAN WILLIAMS, NPR: They don’t have to turn it. I mean, this is the way the media treats all race stories in this country, Jon. It’s always that black people are the victims, white people are the perpetrators. You know, it’s white guilt, black victimhood and it’s constant, it’s in every area, not just this, but in terms of our political discussions about race that to me are always one-side and twisted and prevent us from having the honest kind of dialog that is so important. In this story, I don’t have any objection to people saying, “What was the cause of this man committing the act?” But the way that they then back peddle and say. You know what, the unions don’t have any record of this. The employer has no record of this is to me evidence that in fact, this was a racial attack on whites. Subsequently we’ve seen other attacks on blacks in this country. But let’s have an honest discussion. Indeed, Juan. Let’s have an honest discussion. Unfortunately, that has seemed far less likely since the inauguration of Barack Obama despite America being sold on the notion that all of our race problems would go away with the election of our first black President. Quite the contrary, things have seemed to go backwards, especially for media members that have become even less colorblind than they were before. Why might that be?

NYT’s Herbert Rips Obama: He Should Have Exclusively Focused On Jobs

Are even the most liberal media members starting to realize the administration’s “Recovery Summer” campaign was a complete joke? Such appears to be the case for New York Times columnist Bob Herbert who on Saturday published a piece absolutely excoriating President Obama for not exclusively focusing on jobs after his inauguration last year: The Obama administration seems to be feeling sorry for itself. Robert Gibbs, the president’s press secretary, is perturbed that Mr. Obama is not getting more hosannas from liberals. Spare me. The country is a mess. The economy is horrendous, and millions of American families are running out of ammunition in their fight against destitution. Steadily increasing numbers of middle-class families, who never thought they’d be seeking charity, have been showing up at food pantries.   That was just the beginning: Mr. Obama’s problem – and the nation’s – is that in the midst of the terrible economic turmoil that the country was in when he took office, he did not make full employment, meaning job creation in both the short and the long term, the nation’s absolute highest priority. Herbert almost sounded like a conservative: We were going to spend staggering amounts of money in any event. There was every reason to use those enormous amounts of public dollars to leverage private capital, as well, for investment in projects and research that the country desperately needs and that would provide enormous benefits for many decades. Think of the returns the nation reaped from its investments in the interstate highway system, the Land Grant colleges, rural electrification, the Erie and Panama canals, the transcontinental railroad, the technology that led to the Internet, the Apollo program, the G.I. bill. Herbert crescendoed to a conclusion: President Obama missed his opportunity early last year to rally the public behind a call for shared sacrifice and a great national mission to rebuild the United States in a way that would create employment for millions and establish a gleaming new industrial platform for the great advances of the 21st century. It would have taken fire and imagination, but the public was poised to respond to bold leadership. Indeed it was, Mr. Herbert. The problem is the presidential candidate folks like you helped get elected had absolutely no leadership experience whatsoever. None. Zero. Zip. Despite this, Herbert and his ilk fell hook line and sinker for “Hope and Change” without any examination into the possibility the person they were backing could pull it off. Now, almost nineteen months in with unemployment at 9.5 percent and likely about to head higher, those that aided and abetted the clothesless candidate are beginning to finally question his abilities. If they had done so when an unqualified junior senator from Illinois first tossed his hat into the ring in February 2007, maybe our country would be in far better shape. Makes you wonder when enablers like Herbert will start apologizing to the nation for shamelessly assisting its downfall.

An ending… and beginning.

This was the most beautiful experience of my life and I have absolutely no regrets. Tuesday night was enormously emotional for us all and I could not be more proud of my father.  The person you saw on that stage was the gracious, honest and tender human being whom I have had the privilege to call “dad” for 24 years. My girls, Shannon and Heather, were there filming and taking photographs; however, this is the first time in the history of the Blogette that I have decided to keep the documentation for myself and my family and not publish it on the site. I hope everyone understands that I don’t feel as open to sharing such an emotional night as I once did.  It is not that I don’t believe our readers would be sensitive to the material, it is that I don’t believe that some in the media would. I want to thank all of you who have been with us on this ride.  We’ve received thousands of emails in the last few days and your words of encouragement and thanks have meant the world to Shannon, Heather, my family, and me.  I am always thrilled when we get frequent email from voters, both young and old, who have felt more connected to this moment in history and to my Dad as a result of this site. Thank you all for your support, prayers and encouragement. I hope that by showing you the perspective of a presidential campaign through the eyes of the candidate’s daughter, it has made the process more accessible to readers of all ages.  Hopefully, in the future, another crazy, independent child of a politician will also draw back the curtain on a journey that so few people get the chance to see up close, and not adhere to an image that is long overdue for change. This has truly been the most liberating experience of my life and I am grateful for every moment. Nothing like this happens without the support of some amazing people.  Frank, Melissa, Claire, Diane, Rob, Nancy and Josh have always been working behind the scenes and on the road to make this a success. I know it hasn’t always been easy, but I thank them so much for their perseverance and patience. They have meant so much to me through this experience and I truly could not have done it without them. Which brings me to Shannon and Heather. Quite simply, I would not have survived without you. You have been my friends through some of the highest, and lowest, points of my life. Through the good times and bad, you were always there for me and this would not have been possible without you. You are my best friends in the entire world and I will always love you both.  You are two of the most incredible people I have ever known and have the honor of calling my best friends. Finally, I want to thank the two people who made this all possible, my mom and dad. Not the business owner and the candidate, but the mother and father whose strength, generosity and selflessness have been such a source of inspiration to me and who are the core of who I am today.  I am so incredibly thankful for their love and support.  I am very much my father’s daughter and share many personality traits with him, but it is my mother who has always taught me to retain grace and class and to maintain a sense of humor during turbulent times.  She has showcased those traits to me more than ever in the past year and a half. To everyone else, you know who you are. And now this experience ends. So, where do I go from here? I ask my readers for time while I figure that out. Stay tuned and don’t get rid of this bookmark just yet! In the meantime, I am decompressing in Sedona, eating my Dad’s grilled ribs with my brothers, and playing “Rock Band” with Bridget. With much love and gratitude to all our badass readers!!! xoxoxo, Meghan Final Campaign Song of the Day: “Snow (Hey Oh)” by Vitamin String Quartet (This is what the end of the campaign feels like…)

Holidays and a New Year

Hi everyone! I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything. Obviously, the weeks following the election have been an emotional rollercoaster. I am grateful for so many of you who have sent such encouraging messages to the site. My family and I have appreciated them all. We’re heading out for a family trip over the holidays and I’ll be posting some photos from our travels soon. In the meantime, here’s my top 10 posts from the last year as we reflect on 2008. Many of you have asked what the future of the blog is and yes, there is a future. I just needed a bit of time to disconnect before starting up again. I appreciate your understanding and patience. Some fun experiences are ahead. Have a safe and wonderful holiday and Happy New Year to all! xoxoxo, Meghan

Holidays and a New Year

2009

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday break. Our entire family went to Fiji to spend time together before one of my brothers was re-deployed this week. It was an emotional holiday for all of us, but it was great sharing some quality time together as well. I was sick when I got back but am finally starting to feel better so the new year is looking more positive. Below is a great photo of us all on the beach. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been visiting all my patient friends that I neglected during the campaign. Some of my friends have gotten married and had babies, so there is a lot to catch up on! This week, I’m in one of my favorite places ever: New York City! I have some meetings and old friends to see. I have the honor of going to a dinner at the White House for Dad the day before the Inauguration and will be blogging about the whole experience prior to relaunching the site in February. Thanks, as always, to everyone for their great notes and messages! And last but not least, I thought it was time for a new “post-election” song of the day. Enjoy!
